This incredible spot has been rebranded to the Wildflower Saloon. With the rebranding has come an improved experience. And you can't beat the location! They had a trio playing music that added to the vibe. I was happy to see a place in the West End that was hopping with people sitting outside, multiple tables busy on the inside and a group of people sitting at the bar. We had the pulled pork sandwich and an order of chicken wings. The fries were outstanding. Crispy on the outside and puffy, potato-ee goodness on the inside. The pork sandwich contained a generous portion of pulled pork on a tasty bun. The pork was not overly smoked or seasoned and its taste would clearly appeal to a wide spectrum of pulled pork sandwich fans. The wings were lightly dusted with Wildflower magic and cooked to perfection. They also make great cocktails with a good selection of booze. You'll want to give this place a try. read more

We stopped in for a quick bite on Thursday evening, they have trivia but said we could sit at a table in the dining room or a place in the bar, we opted to sit in the bar area. The trivia seemed fun and would be a good time with friends. Our server was fabulous. She told us her name and of course I forgot, our ticket says Amelia but that doesn't seem right. She was attentive, friendly, explained everything, any questions we asked she was happy to answer. I ordered a cocktail, the Wild Orchid. It came in a tall pint glass and was tinted purple, of course. I am into tequila drinks right now and this one was simple and good. Tequila, lime, and raspberry simple syrup. The Menu in the restaurant reflects the one online but there is a link to another one that I had seen previously, it had sliders that were really intriguing. The menu presented was for WildFlower Saloon. It seems they are in transition. Some of the same things on the new menu but not all. I ended up with a single rib, chicken bites, and a piece of my husband's pork steak meal. I enjoyed the rib, the chicken bites were HOT, they were different than I expected but they were flavorful and in a crispy shell. This place was OK. We ordered the barbecue sample platter and it came out barely warm. The coleslaw was not seasoned so it was like I was eating wet, cabbage. The barbecue itself was OK. A friend and I stopped for lunch. I'll admit, we only had salads and a cocktail, but we were not impressed. We thought the salads were extremely small for the price. I added protein to mine and the pulled chicken overpowered the rest of the salad. For my cocktail, I ordered a Rye Manhattan. I usually ask the bartender for a recommendation, so I can experience new Rye's. When I asked here, the bartender responded, "I don't drink whiskey." Ok buckle up, because this is one of the unique reviews I've penned in awhile. And I really hope the owner reads this. My friends and I were in St. Louis last weekend for the two Metallica concerts. Absolute bucket list, both shows were incredible. We stayed in the Central West End and BBQ Saloon was a few blocks from our hotel. We walked by a handful of times, but never ventured in. Turns out the dive bar a half block away we went to a few times was closed. Well, we were still riding high after the concert and we wanted to grab one more without the night coming to a close. What to do, what to do? As we approached BBQ Saloon (it looked closed), the owner walked out and said, "We're closed, but we're drinking," and welcomed us in with open arms. Was this...destiny? Quite possibly. We sat at the bar, the owner Phil turned the TV's back on, and asked what we were drinking. A beer for the friend on my left, a whiskey for the friend to my right and a classic American Bud Heavy for me. $21 for the three? In this economy? He could've charged us triple since we essentially reopened his bar. I'm not going to go into painstaking detail about our lengthy conversation, but this guy is a person who's meant to talk to people over a drink. Turns out he was a world champion bodybuilder in a previous life and had some fascinating stories to share with us bar rats. Our flights were less than 12 hours away. But before we decided it was quitting time I asked, "By the way, how's the food here? I'll have to try it next time I'm in town." He said it was damn good, and was disappointed we couldn't come back for lunch tomorrow before we departed. Then he goes, "Stay right there." He proceeds to walk into the kitchen and seconds later, returns with a dinosaur-sized rack of ribs wrapped in plastic wrap. I kid you not, a FULL RACK OF RIBS. He then tells me how to prepare them for when I return home. Obviously I'm ecstatic at this gesture. I asked how much I owed him. He said, "This one's on me." I said don't be ridiculous, that's completely unnecessary. We reopened your bar for god's sake. He replied, "Please I insist, I enjoyed talking with you guys." IF THIS ISN'T 5-STAR HOSPITALITY I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS. So there we were. The three of us who already had one of the most amazing nights of our lives, only one-upped by Phil the bar owner who handed us a full rack of ribs at 1:30am. Has this happened to you? I promise you it hasn't. Considering I packed those ribs in my suitcase and they made it all the way back to Denver, I was honestly surprised they tasted as good as they did. He said they do a true STL-style rib. I can't deny how meaty and savory those ribs were. Thank you Phil for the engaging conversation and world class hospitality. I came here for happy hour and an early dinner and enjoyed my time! This saloon was about a block from my apartment, so it was convenient to walk there and grab a seat at the bar. While in STL last Thursday we stopped in after some appointments to give this place a shot and were not disappointed with the food. The restaurant is pretty unique in its layout and has a crazy large selection of whiskey! It was not overly crowded or a rush time but service was still a bit too slow and it became noticeable that multiple groups around us were frustrated and one group even walked out. Hit up this place for the first time and loved it. Had some Old Fashioneds which were divine. Started with the candied bacon as an appetizer (because...bacon). It could have been thicker pieces (seemed to be your run of the mill grocery store bacon), but it was soooo good. I had the brisket sliders and bourbon baked beans, but of which were super yum. The hubs had the 20oz pork steak which he inhaled as well as the fries and pickled veggies. All were really good. The menu isn't long and overwhelming, which we appreciate. Nothing is really "award winning" here, but it's all really good for the prices. We'll add this place to our rotation of places to eat. read more

So so horrible I don't know what else to say. According to the waitress the restaurant across the street had merged with BBQ Saloon so the kitchen was just a mess. It took us about 45 minutes for our order to reach our table. Needless to say wife end up sending it back. BBQ tasted like it was roasted and forgot to put bbq sauce. Terrible, terrible. Only redeeming thing was the appetizer fried cheese curds. So so if you are selling bbq then make it taste like bbq. By the way pull chicken was not even pulled it was just chunks of slimy poultry. Save your monies and go somewhere else. Not worth the wait nor the monies. There is better stuff all around it. Waitress tried to explain to us what was happening, but there is no excuse, only 4 tables filled in the entire place. Shut it down. Only bad experience in St. Louis. Keep on going. Come for the drinks and atmosphere... pass on the food. Went to BBQ Saloon during happy hour on a Thursday night and grabbed a table in the room on the side. The happy hour specials were pretty good and everyone in our party was happy with their drinks. The bartenders were doing a great job of keeping up with the patrons and you didn't have to wait at all to place an order. Around 7:00 PM the room we were in started to fill up for trivia night which started at 7:30 so we decided to stay. Trivia consisted of 5, 10-question rounds and the questions were diverse and ranged from easy to quite challenging. Overall it was a fun experience. It looked like many of the tables around us were reserved for trivia by regulars so you may have to come early if you want to snag a spot. Since we stayed we ordered food as well. Food was ordered near the bar as they didn't have staff waiting on the tables. The fries and Mac and cheese were just okay and the chicken tenders were were nothing special. Walked in for a drink, and to see how the neighborhood was. I was definitely not disappointed!!! Gerald (bartender) greeted me when I arrived, and I sat at the bar for a couple bday drinks. There were only a couple patrons besides me, so service was definitely on point. Gerald conversed with me as well as recommended different food/drinks offered. I ordered a beer (can't remember, but good), and ended up getting an order of the bourbon baked beans that were amazing! Definitely taste the bourbon! Good: Food was tasty when we got it. Told server we had theater tickets and needed to leave in 90 minutes and he did his best to accommodate that. Bad: Door was locked at 11am opening time after waiting 5 mins we had to call and ask when we could be let in, bartender told us they were slammed from the night before and he was still prepping things. We waited another 5 mins outside then were seated to our table. We were the only party 7 in the place but food coming out of the kitchen took a very long time, and we had to rush to eat. Ugly: The bartender was deceitful about making our drinks. The bar ran out of champagne after the first round and he made our subsequent mimosas with Chardonnay as a mixer with OJ with some seltzer for bubbles. We could have easily changed our drink orders to any number of bar options available to us had the bartender been up front about being out of champagne. We were still charged 16 mimosas at $7 a piece and only were told about the substitutions after we inquired why our drinks didn't taste the same. Our party was more than gracious about some of the hicccups going into the day, and can understand staffing and food shortages but the deception was unnecessary and a deal breaker. read more

BBQ Saloon is a bar in Central West End in close proximity to the Barnes-Jewish medical campus. It's located amidst many local eateries. For it's location and apparent longevity, I do wish the experience was a tad more elevated. Ambiance: The actual facility is a tad confused. It seems to be stuck between wanting to be a hole-in-the-wall BBQ where they are known for nothing BUT their food and a high end cocktail establishment. Because of this interesting mix, the experience is very hit or miss. There were TV's around the bar that were competing for attention of the loud music. The servers were all wearing just normal "street clothes" that were not coordinated at all. Service: The restaurant wasn't too crowded, but it wasn't dead. One benefit of the location of this bar/restaurant is that since the close of iTap, it's really the only place to grab a drink at that end of Euclid. When I walked in, I wasn't greeted. I sat at the bar and waited to be acknowledged. Even though I wasn't in a rush, I still would have liked a tad faster service. The bartender was very nice though. So no issues there. Offerings: I didn't have food during this trip, so I won't comment on that. If you don't like bourbon or whiskey, don't go to BBQ Saloon. We are in St. Louis. I get it. But this bar is trying really hard to give off a high-end Central West End vibe, but the only beers they offered were Bud, Bud Light, Goose Island, Stella. I get the vibe they have a pretty tight relationship with their local Anheuser-Busch distributor. The craft beer scene in our city couldn't be hotter, and it was disappointing to not see even one tap devoted to a local brew. Luckily I DO also like bourbon. As you can see in the photos, their bar is filled with many bottles. I ordered their take on a classic sazerac, which is one of my favorite cocktails. It was definitely a memorable libation. It was watered down and way too sweet. It was so weak I was able to gulp it down in about three swigs. Overall: I would probably give BBQ Saloon another chance. My biggest take away would be to not waste $10+ on their cocktails. The bartender/server didn't seem like a very knowledgeable mixologist. Being a bourbon person, I would just stick to a glass of that straight up. If you are in the area, it's a fine place to fill you up and get a drink, but because of the awkward atmosphere I wouldn't really spend much time hanging out here. read more

We drove 8 hours hoping to get some good food and that did not happen, upon arrival it was Monday evening there was barely any people there approximately 10 5 which were at the bar we sit down it took about 30 minutes for anyone to come to us and ask us if we would like anything including water, took another 30 minutes for them to even come take our actual order and took about 30 more for them to bring any of our things at that point we were no longer hungry and a little upset that it was taking so long and no one was there, I decided to get up and use the bathroom which I walked by the kitchen and everyone was just standing there on their phone they weren't doing anything at all but that's not even the worst part they bring us only half the food the food which was so burnt n small so overpriced the ribs were burnt and they were tiny to charge $4 per rib which which had no meat on which had no meat on it at all and the bone was maybe an inch and a half to 2 in definitely not worth it, ordered sliders and a quesadilla how do you mess up a quesadilla? Burn it sour cream looked old the slider meat was literally falling apart and looked White nothing here is worth it they are overpriced and the food was horrible we decided we did not want the food and left of course we tipped the waiter which it was not his fault but this business, moving forward I will not tell any of my friends and family when they go to visit to go to this place of business and spend money. First time visiting - my review focuses on the late night service. As far as service goes, our bartender was pretty attentive and was quick. She checked on us frequently and appeared competent at her job. No complaints there. They have a full service bar and decent drink specials if you're looking for the basics (simple cocktails, wine, and beer). As far as late night food is concerned, the options are typical for what you'd expect for bar food; consisting of meaty, cheesy, and fried options. We ordered the Southwest Chicken bites and the BBQ pulled pork nachos. The bites were surprisingly good! They look like chicken nuggets, but were not. The nachos had cheese sauce and lacked any garnishments which was disappointing. A soft queso would've been better. I can't say that if I have a late night craving after work that I would visit again. But, in all fairness, I will plan to visit in the day to see what the actual lunch and dinner menus consist of. read more

My husband, Dad & I came here for the first time to have some BBQ! The only guy working here today behind the bar was super short and rude. We had to go in and tell him we were seated on the patio waiting for a server. Then he comes out with water and says hey what are you having no hello, hi, or welcome. Then he says okay so we don't have any bacon. I asked what meat do you have and he says "just sausage and gravy" which means it's already pre made and mixed in with the gravy. He ordered the pulled pork sandwich and I ordered the turkey sandwich. We both chose potato salad for a side. My other side was cole slaw. His came with pickled vegetables. His said his sandwich was good. My sandwich was delicious. Although it still had a smoked flavor, it wasn't over powering. I went in this morning to grab a drink, and I ordered a mimosa. It is truly the worst mimosa I have ever had. It was undrinkable. I could barely swallow it when I would try to take a drink. After about 45 minutes of not being able to bring myself to drink it, I asked the bartender to put more orange juice in it (presumably it was so bad because the quality of the champagne was abominable - and this is coming from someone who was in a sorority and has had a fair amount of crappy champagne, and this is still the worst I've ever had). So, he added more orange juice, and was nice about it, but it was still undrinkable. I told him I was I sorry, but I absolutely hated it and wasn't going to drink it. He brought me my check and STILL CHARGED ME $7 for a drink I expressly told him I hated and barely touched. He didn't offer to make me something else or comp the drink, which I think would have been the appropriate response, because I'm really aggravated to have had to pay for something that I hated and didn't drink. read more
