Stella is attached to the downtown Austin Westin and was extremely convenient for us. Unless you're staying at the Westin I wouldn't recommend Stella. The staff was very friendly, not quick, but very friendly. My husband ordered the crab hush puppies, which were almost only breading and not pleasant. I ordered the Caesar with chicken, which was decent, but unremarkable. With so many amazing places in Austin, Stella falls flat. read more

Biscuits...Do I need to say more? Over the years, I have made my rounds to try all the best biscuits in Austin. I can definitely say, these made the list. They were just the right amount of fluffy and flaky. Matched with that incredible butter, you won't be upset. We came in on a Sunday for brunch and the place wasn't too crowded so it was nice to not have to yell. As you sit and wait to order, you are forced to see them deliver plate after beautiful plate to other tables and try to decide which you are going to want to eat. Every dish looked better than the previous. We settled on the biscuits, salmon bruschetta and the parfait. The salmon was fantastic, served with plenty of fish on top with a nice thick piece of sourdough and cream cheese spread. The parfait was light and refreshing, so the perfect addition. Only downside was that we showed up at 11 which I assume is prime start to brunch and they were already all out of 3 of the fresh smoothies and juices which I thought was a bit odd. We ended choosing the last one left (beets and something) and it was definitely the least favorite item of the meal. Luckily everything else was great so can't complain. read more

I had a really good experience coming for the borboun and biscuit tasting and dinner. The service was so friendly! Edwin I think was so friendly talking to us for a few minutes about the different bourbons and then the wine they have. The biscuits are so fluffy and good!! The bourbon pairings made it such a unique experience. We enjoyed the pork chop and thought it was cooked nicely. Plating was nice as well. It has a dark upscale vibe but def people there dressed more casual. read more

The ambiance was very good. The service was exceptional (Gillian). The food taste and presentation was first class. Only reason not giving 5 stars is the food was all luke warm. I will say this is a low 4 rating. At a "fancier" kind of place, expectations should be a bit higher and so that's how I went into it. Let me start by saying the service was absolutely amazing which is why it is a 4 and not a 3. And the honey butter for the biscuits was fantastic as well. The part that wasn't as great for me though was the burger. I ordered a medium rare burger and unfortunately received a well done burger. It wasn't the biggest deal to me so I just kept it and still enjoyed it. But I feel like the experience would have been much better with a better burger. I'd give this place another shot though, truly because of the service! read more

Attached to the hotel, but barely noticed that when we chose it. Southern flair food. We went at the end of the night, nice staff, waitress showed us other plates on her way by to give us a look, made nice recommendations. We had Fried avocado salad- good stuff. The Bone marrow was OUT OF SITE. Smooth, unctuous de-natured protein took the toast points to another level and while I was trying to impress my date I had an internal debate of telling her it's horrible and not to try it. Alas, she isn't a foodie but liked it as well. The Shrimp Caesar salad was wonderful. The lettuce crisp, the dressing had a hint of anchovy and lemon, kissing the salad but not soupy or overpowering it. My apologies for not recalling the red wine I ordered but the waiter and staff were very knowledgeable and their suggestion was a very heavy tannin laden wine with notes of huckleberry and vanilla. Bravo! Moreover, it paired nicely with a perfectly cooked beef short rib. The meat was fork tender while not being dry. I'm not a sweet potato fan but the mash married perfectly with the beef and the green apple slaw had a nice crunch to contrast the textures. The ambiance was very quiet as not many people where there b/c of covid however the bar area is very upscale and satisfying if a patron were to sit in that area. Parking wasn't fun but all things considered - a great staff, awesome food, and decadent vibe makes it all worth the visit. read more

Stopped in for brunch, waited around 15 mins to get helped. Our order eventually gets put in, but had to flag our server down. French toast came out burnt, rather than being apologetic about the quality, our server seemed really condescending and did not understand why we would want it to be remade. Eventually, we just cancelled the order, as service had been and would continue to be slow. read more

We highly recommend - I had the salmon over Cesar salad Everyone else said their food was great. Especially the French toast with pecans. Boyfriend said it didn't even need syrup it was that good. I hate biscuits. Usually. I know, sacrilege, sue me. BUT I loved the biscuits here and even ate 2. The short rib is a popular pick and for good reason. Sweet potato mash is a bold move, but it works. Cons: The area we sat at near the windows smelled like gym socks. It was bizarre, but was it actually the restaurant or a nearby diner? I'll never know. read more

I went for the bourbon and biscuit promotion where you try some high shelf bourbon alongside biscuits. The biscuits were very tiny with overly manicured flavor jams and butters. The jam was good. The butters deserved atleast one savory butter. The experience was $60 and was not worth the price tag. For regular menu food, we got a Ceasar salad with salmon. Lettuce was a bit past its due date but the salmon was cooked to perfection! I would not come back or go out of my way for the bourbon and biscuit promotion but the main menu was pretty good. read more

The New York Strip was the best I've ever had. The biscuits with honey on the HH menu were delightful. The HH specials were not only incredibly affordable, but of quality. The ambience was stunning as well but the reason I'm writing this review is because of the customer service I received from Adam and Delena. These two went out of their way to make sure that we were all taken care of, and not only in a professional manner, but by being kind and investing in each one of their customers personally. Came here with my wife on date night before a music show. Loved it - service, drinks and food were all great. She had the halibut, I had the caesar with salmon. Everything about this place was great. Matt out server was very friendly, attentive and efficient. Every other person who came to our table to bring food or remove dishes was also very friendly and interactive. The food was AMAZING. The biscuits are so good. I had a BLT salad and mule. They were ok. I think my friends had better food choices, but I wasn't that hungry. We did start with some appetizers, including the deviled eggs, which were really good! The service was good. The only drawback was that our table was by a prep station for the wait staff which was not ideal. We didn't have a reservation, so beggars can't be choosers. I would definitely try this restaurant again when I have more of an appetite. read more

Ambiance and the vibes, definitely there for Brunch. Food and service - I'm sorry, but not worth coming back or recommending to friends/family. This place is overrated and other reviewers are right about the service and food. Server has a great attitude, but terrible service. Had to wave him down several times to get refills on water and coffee. Both coffee refills were cold, not hot. Our Lemon Buttermilk Pancakes were burnt and terribly dry. The Country Fried Steak was dry, burnt and just awful, zero flavor. Whoever managed the food line, clearly doesn't care about the quality that their sending out. read more

First night in Austin in 30 years, took my son to a tournament. Stella was walking distance from our hotel, so we gave it a try. And I'm so glad we did! Ambiance is upscale, but warm. Our waiter, Arek, was fantastic! Knowledgeable about the wine list, friendly and attentive. Excellent service. He recommended I try the wagyu beef rib - it's a long time since I was blown away by a dish, but it was fantastic! The mashed potatoes, the onions and peppers, and the assorted herbs on top were amazing, as was the presentation! My son had the roasted chicken and he was equally impressed A hearty 5 stars from me on this one! May go back another night before we leave! read more

Pretty nice experience for the world traveler up early for breakfast and stumbling upon this cafe attached to a hotel. The prices are not crazy (what isn't expensive these days?), the food is wonderful, and the southern hospitality hangs in the air. Basic eggs, hash browns, and biscuits that are to die for! Stella San Sac is one of the best brunches I've had in awhile. They're located at the Westin Downtown but don't be fooled - they're NOT stereotypical hotel food. Marriott always does a good job hosting great establishments, but this restaurant blew me away because I got their: - Chicken & Waffle ($21): what makes this one of the best ones I've had is that the chicken is very-well seasoned and also comes with a maple syrup that has Bulleit bourbon mixed in for an extra kick to wake ya up. Very well done! - 4.75/5 - Short Rib Grilled Cheese ($17): they take tender, rich short rib and pair it with a melted smoked cheddar cheese and caramelized onion all on a Hawaiian roll and side of fries and WOWOW. It also comes with a side of jus to dip in for even more rich taste. Just try this. You'll thank me later!! - 4.5/5 - #16 Biscuits ($9): I mean what's a brunch without biscuits, am I right? These are a great appetizer to start the morning off! - 4/5 What I also like about Stella San Jac is that they are open for brunch on Fridays! I wish more establishments had brunch outside of the weekend, so this extra day is nice. I've also came awhile back for dinner where I got the Pan Seared Chicken ($26) which was good. The seasoning really made the chicken stand out and complemented the grits pretty well. Overall, I had pretty amazing experiences here and would highly suggest y'all to put them on your list. For Austin, Stella San Jac's food is simply okay. 3 stars for the attentive, excellent service and location. But the food is strictly average. We were a large party and tried much of their menu. The salmon Benedict was overly salty while the Avocado toast was relatively flavorless (the scrambled eggs with it were good). Most disappointing were the biscuits. You can find much better ones at Olamaie etc. read more

Holase made it easy to keep coming back to this restaurant for the week! The drinks and food added to the hospitality, were SO good, we repeatedly came back to the restaurant throughout our stay. Holase made sure our experience was equally enjoyable from a social and service perspective. He made sure our drinks were timely, and checked on us frequently so we never needed anything for a lengthy period of time. He recommended several dishes that were enjoyed by our group. We started with the Prickly Pear Margarita. It was refreshing and not too bubbly. Then we had the Brussel sprouts. They were wonderful! On the 2nd visit, we ordered the hush puppies as a starter. They were very flavorful and perfectly prepared. Our salad was very good. I had never had Red Finn. We added it as a protein for the salad. The fish was perfection. Not too heavy and breaded very lightly. This restaurant takes care of the guests of the hotel. The space is not too loud and open to groups and friends joining. An excellent brunch served by Mike, a friendly an conscientious server. Stella is beautiful inside and has a menu that makes deciding really tough. Every single thing sounds great. I had a grilled Chicken Caesar that was really good and my companions both had the salmon Benedict minus the salmon and they were so happy with them. We came here while we were doing a "stay-ca" downtown Halloween weekend. It was a short 3 minute walk from our hotel so the location was extremely convenient. There was no wait around 2pm, and the ambiance was pretty slick. We got sat in the bar section which still felt very dining-esque which is nice. My husband went for the biscuits and gravy - said the gravy was delicious, but his poached egg was a bit over cooked so it didn't have the silky consistency he was expecting. I got the grilled shrimp and grits (might I add something I don't usually lean towards) and it was fantastic. The arugula had a hint of vinaigrette to balance out the weight of the grits. I thought it was delicious and definitely recommend it. I also had the Bloody Mary (necessary after a long weekend ) and it had JUST the right amount of spicy ness to help get me through the rest of the afternoon. read more

THE restaurant in our Austin hotel, with some kickass breakfast items and drinks. We did not miss any of the breakfast/brunch mornings of our stay. Weekday and weekend options are different, but OMG delicious! If you're Marriott Titanium (yep, I'm all that and a bag of chips...but maybe Gold gets the deals too?), check with them on what they provide you during your stay. Fresh juices Biscuits (drugs obvi folded in) Chicken and Waffle All. The. Rest. Worth a visit even if your not staying at the hotel! We had a different waiter each morning, and all were great. Bar in the afternoon/evening with delicious appetizers. Seriously...the best hotel restaurant I've ever been to. read more

Our wonderful server, Kamber, explained that the legs were especially small that day, so they have to serve two instead. The chicken was crispy, flavorful, and delicious, and I loved learning they use peanut oil. The fresh, natural quality definitely came through. And placing the white bread underneath the chicken? Brilliant--it soaks up the extra oil! Service was fast, friendly, and efficient even though it was a busy Friday lunch hour. Amber was great about answering our questions and regularly checked up on us. She even introduced us to their homemade Chess pie--a classic rich southern custard dessert pie--which we were too full to try this time, next time for sure. Late post Earlier today around 10:30am-11:00am my girlfriends and I were having a get together and had all wanted to try something new. Being new to the Austin area we went to Yelp to help us out in finding the perfect dining experience and it took us almost directly to Stella San Jac. Curious as to the food descriptions and the restaurant being located right in the lobby of the Westin hotel, my girlfriends and I decided to give it a go. Upon arrival we were greeted by the sweetest host whom I don't remember giving us her name but she was wonderful. She sat us in a window seat closest to the open kitchen (our preference.) About one minute later our waitress Jennifer approached the table already having in hand water, orange juice, and coffee (with cream) we were well impressed due to the fact all three of us wanted all three of those options, it was very convenient. Jennifer then began to describe various items on the list such as made in house smoothies, "superfoods" I believe is what Jennifer called them, ECT... We had no idea as to what we wanted so we asked for a few minutes to look over it ourselves. What we thought would be a 10 minute look over turned out to be a 30 minute ordeal between us girls! Everything sounded so good we literally could not decide on what to order. Jennifer came back numerous times refilling our drinks and checking on us in the mean time . This is where our dining experience got interestingly fun. Jennifer then came back to the table asking if we had come to an agreement on what to order, we hadn't. She asked if we trusted her, we all laughed OF COURSE! She then asked us individually what we were in the mood for, how hungry we were, ECT... Then she asked if we would be up for trying something new and letting her order for us. She was extremely confident she knew what we would like individually. FUN! She stared us with the most amazing biscuits with honey butter which are to die for. When our meals arrived we were in AWE! The plates themselves were beautifully arranged and smelled so good. Although I cannot remember the names of the dishes we had, Jennifer knew exactly what we wanted! As if she were a mind reader. At the end of our meal she offered coffee to go, which was lovely and boxed up the remaining food for us. All three of us ladies are writing this review as one and would just like to say that Stella San Jac/the Westin hotel, you have a gem! Jennifer is so much fun to be waited on by. I literally would have never known this place existed if my friend hadn't suggested we go here. I must live under a rock or someplace far away from technology because I missed the instagram shout outs they had. Any who.... I am way glad I went! We went to town with the food ordering and got way too much, shameless. Biscuits, beet chips, fried avocado salad, pulled chicken taco. So good! -The biscuits were okay, nothing amazing but hey who will ever rate carbs negatively. Lets me honest. -The beet chips were tasty, the dipping sauce was really different and goes great on other stuff... like fries! -Fried avocado salad, LIFE CHANGING. Currently my favorite salad and I have since had dreams about it. Everything was awesome, it is a unique combination of flavors and a variety of stuff in a bowl. This visit requires two reviews. Tonight, I went and got drinks at Stella San Jac with my best friend. It was so busy! We were greeted promptly by Jayden, and she took our drink order. She was so nice! She asked what we were doing in Austin, and she seemed truly interested in my weekend getaway. I have NEVER had someone so polite and caring as a server before. Our drinks however took SO long. I have no idea what the people at the bar were going. It was about 10 minutes for the first round, and the second I timed and it took 30 minutes! But Jayden was there the whole time making sure we had everything we needed (other than our drinks, but I know that wasn't her fault.) My second review is about the manager. He went around to the tables asking if we had drink orders, and he seemed extremely surprised to hear that "yes. we placed drink orders about 15 minutes ago, and the servers keep checking on us." Not once did I see him go to the bar and see what was going on. I did see him pull the servers aside (discreetly) and talk to them, so I am pretty sure he knew that the bar was at fault. And then I saw him making out with a girl as we were leaving. It was extremely unprofessional. After talking to my friend afterwards (she goes there for drinks about once a month), the manager on staff tonight is extremely rude to the servers. BUT he did comp my friends drink for no apparent reason earlier in the summer even though she was getting excellent service from a great strawberry-blonde server (she doesnt remember her name). read more

My wife and I were referred here by close friends and let me just start by saying WOW! When my wife and I walked through the door immediately we had a sense of welcome, everyone was so friendly. We were seated promptly after arrival right beside the kitchen so we got to watch all of the action. SECONDS later our to die for waitress Jennifer showed up to take our drink order and gave us a "tour" of the menu. We were well impressed by the knowledge she had in regards to the menu. As frequent "restaurant go-ers" of course we asked extensive questions as to what ingredients were used to create each meal and Jennifer was able to describe each dish with ease. Jennifer then returned with our drinks as we were ready to order our lunch. My wife ordered the Pan Seared Chicken and I ordered the Stella Burger both of which we were both impressed by. The quality of the food was outstanding! While enjoying our lunch Jennifer made sure our drinks were filled at all times which is a rare occurrence at most restaurants. When finished, she cleared our plates and asked about dessert. Unfortunately my wife and I were too full to continue with dessert but we did look over the dessert menu. Next time we will most definitely be trying a dessert. In conclusion to this outstanding review, we would like to add that for the rest of our dining experiences at Stella San Jac we will be requesting Jennifer by name to take care of us. I typically steer clear of hotel restaurants, but fatigue from wandering the streets in search of a satisfying dessert led us to Stella. We were also staying at the Westin, where the restaurant is located, so why not. The peanut butter pie came highly recommended, so we decided to give it a try. Our server was exceptional--so persuasive that I regretted we weren't there for a full meal, especially with how he talked up the brunch menu. His recommendation of the pie felt like instant validation. The pie itself was quite impressive. It featured a unique crust made from pretzels and chocolate, a charming concept though somewhat challenging to cut through. Nevertheless, we managed to devour every last piece. Just a few hours later, after our godmother joined us, we returned. She opted for the steak and mash, and we also tried some biscuits and cauliflower. While the biscuits are a specialty, they didn't quite leave us longing for more, though they were decent. The cauliflower, on the other hand, was flavorful and quite enjoyable. Stella is undoubtedly a charming spot with a promising menu. Although I missed out on brunch this time, the menu alone would make me consider returning. read more

As I am just now leaving the Westin hotel to catch a flight back home, I would just like to thank everyone for my wonderful stay at this beautiful new hotel. Everything was fantastic. About an hour ago I sat down to eat breakfast at the restaurant for the first time, now getting onto yelp and reading the reviews I can see why five stars are necessary. And also from reading the yelp reviews I can see why Miss Jennifer has such extensive reviews. I was lucky enough to sit in her section (luck of the draw). I asked what her favorite breakfast dish was and as she described it I was sold. She was polite, informative, fast, and understanding I was in somewhat of a rush. To wrap this review up, thank you for my comfortable stay; I will be returning soon enough. I am somewhat upset at myself for not trying out the restaurant sooner but now I know for next time. The biscuits were extremely delicious! They had chunky pieces of salt on top that gave it a little kick. Biscuits were served with a sweet butter that really complimented them. The Summer Year Round drink was so refreshing, especially since it was hot outside. I would highly recommend the short rib grilled cheese with bacon added. The au just what thicker which made it so much easier to eat. The only negative to say is that the service was a little slow. The restaurant wasn't very busy but it took 20 minutes to get our drinks and they forgot a glass of wine. Then when our meal came they had everyone's food except for a salad and then it took another 5-7minutes to get that. Overall experience was so good. The waiter was very pleasant. I had the Texas red fish on a bed of Quinoa Tabbouleh served on a large deep plate. My excitement fell short after a bite of the fish, it fell short of any seasoning and a tad cold. The Tabbouleh gave the dish a little zing but didn't satisfy the blandness of the fish. A bit disappointed for being one of the signature dishes. My friend had a blast with the Lobster Mac, which I agree was a good dish. A few orders of brussel sprouts and biscuits were much needed after the fish. Disappointing BLT Salad This was the most underwhelming salad I've ever had. First off, where was the bacon? I could count the pieces on one hand--if you're going to call it a BLT salad, bacon should be the star of the show. There was no blue cheese in sight, just a bland pile of lettuce with a few sad tomato chunks thrown in for good measure. To top it off, the crispy onions were completely absent. It's baffling that anyone thought this was okay to serve. This wasn't a BLT salad; it was an overpriced bowl of disappointment. I almost forgot about my fish tank water. Upon entering we were sweetly greeted by Vendella who assisted us on picking our perfect spot in the restaurant. From there we were served by Nick who was very knowledgeable about the menu and guided us on the perfect meal choices! We got the Avacado Salad and Prime Strip Steak that was perfectly cooked and had an amazing taste that melted in my mouth!! Finally, even the busser Abraham introduced himself and kept our glasses filled and our table clear of debris .... I recently visited Stella's before its upcoming closure on June 27, and I'm so glad I got the chance to experience it one last time. I had the mashed potatoes and steak frites, both absolutely delicious! Service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The ambience had a quiet charm that made the whole evening feel special. I recently had an outstanding experience at Stella San Jac in Austin, Texas. Starving for lunch, I was thrilled by the fried avocado salad and salmon dip. The staff was incredibly accommodating, allowing me to work for hours and providing excellent service. Even after closing my tab, they continued to fill my water. The atmosphere was bright and welcoming, adorned with greenery, and the modern Southern menu showcased lovingly crafted recipes. I found a gem inside the lobby of the new Westin Hotel! Finders, keepers. Great staff, management was on it. John Mayer was bartending, he did a great Job with my cocktail. The star really though, was my burger! Simple, but delicious. Another thing I noticed was that they don't Muddle the fruit in their cocktail drinks, which is something that hipster boutique hotel bars do right? I prefer my fruit violently shaken, which has the same effect, and is less time consuming. Where's the pool?! read more

In Austin for the weekend and this place had great reviews, stopped in and the menu looked good. I ordered the country fried steak and the brussel sprouts for the table, both were DELICIOUS! The food is great but my experience with Whitley is the real reason for the 5 stars, she was such a pleasure and even wrote down cool places for us to check out. Their cocktail selection is one of the best things I like about this establishment. Next is their service, if ts possible for best service to be more best, they made it possible. It gets better and better every time you drop here. Try their brunch or their happy hour or after work schedule. Stella is great. I've been in many times before and after movies at the Drafthouse next door, and stopped in for happy hour. Every time, everything is wonderful, everyone is kind and accommodating.
