Trust Rewarded Although I was a long-term owner of an audio store in eastern Iowa, back during the dawn of serious home and car audio, I had been retired from the business for well over 20 years. I recently got the desire to bring the audio system in my 2007 Mazda CX-9 out of the dark ages and into the present. I had acquired the equipment after a lot of research but needed someone to install the system for me. After doing some additional research on nearby stores that provided installation services, I noticed Stereo King here in Gresham. Although they had a lot of great reviews they also had a noticeable amount of 1 star reviews although virtually all of them were from 10 years ago. Knowing that all it takes to hurt a store's reputation is just one bad apple, and that this one was likely long gone, I decided to take a chance and check them out in person. My first interaction was with Chris and he seemed to be both helpful and knowledgeable. After getting a feel for the store I decided to invest in some Mesa door kits to provide some needed sound deadening for my doors along with some Fast Rings which would help to enclose and isolate the 5.25" woofers in my four doors. My installation was set up for approximately a week later so that gave me plenty of time to write up a detailed list of equipment to be installed with my ideas for where it would be installed and roughly how I expected it to be dialed in given my personal tastes while also taking into consideration my noticeably reduced high frequency hearing. I emailed this to Chris and he forwarded it to Jeff a day before the install was to be done. As you can probably tell by now, I am pretty meticulous and particular as to what I wanted to achieve. Now maybe Chris and Jeff were going above and beyond because of my 28 years in the business but if that was the case they certainly didn't make it seem that way. When I met Jeff on the day of the install I quickly felt more at ease because of his pleasant demeanor but also due to both his apparent knowledge and years of experience, so that was a relief. The job that he and his assistant, James, had to do would be time consuming even though this was not a super custom job. Having been in the business, I knew that installers can sometimes get called away from a job to give a customer a consultation about how a potential installation might go and what it would cost. Having been retired for nearly 20 years I readily encouraged them to roll over to a second day to finish my job if it was needed knowing that this would take some pressure off of them. So, how did it all go? Well, I have to say that the Stereo King team certainly met my expectations and the install both looked good and sounded as I expected it would. The system consisted of a new head unit, a reasonably powerful 5-channel amplifier, two pairs of component speakers and a sealed sub-woofer in addition to the Mesa sound deadening material and Fast Rings. Throughout the process both Chris and Jeff were great to deal with and they provided good suggestions when they were needed. I think that if a customer knows what they want to achieve and can effectively communicate how they want their system to sound the Stereo King team certainly seems to have both the equipment and the know how to make it all happen for you. Decent service but these people are just scammers and only want money they wanted 60 dollars just for a 10 minute inspection then made me pay an additional 160 for the service they did and didn't even end up fixing my issue and they just said it's a blown speaker so I got charged 225 total for 0 change what a absolute scam would not recommend this place to anyone they suck at there job and just do a quick job for quick money read more

First time here, greeted nicely. I told them I'd never been here before. Came in with money to spend wanting some speakers. The woman at the counter who looks about fourteen could not make the most basic treble and bass adjustments on their head units that were demoing speakers. I found a pair I was interested in and they were selling them for $69. I looked them up on the net and they were literally selling everywhere, including other small shops, not just big box stores, for $39. Screw that. I walked out while she was still trying to figure out the bass and treble at the demo station. read more

After my long time installer of 20 years passed, I brought my new SUV in to Jason to fix a custom install and tuning done by another shop in town. The sound was horrible and I knew something was way off. instead of going back to the original shop and wasting more time, I explained the issues to Jason and framed my expectations. I dropped the truck off for the fix and true to form, Jason and his team went to work and quickly identified the issues, then fixed them by the next day. I am completely satisfied with the results, so much so that I brought my summer car to him to make some fixes to that system also. NOTE: if you run JL audio, he is a wizard with tuning the complex VXi amps and his ear is unmatched. Overall, the only regret I have is that I didn't see him FIRST to do the original install on the SUV. Don't waste your time or your money at other shops, go to this shop first for everything from big custom installs to small, routine jobs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. read more

This review is slightly overdo as it was about 2 wks ago that I had a really great customer experience at the store.I have purchased several devices (deck,subwoofers, speakers,car alarm) from this location and each time I was treated fairly. However after having my subwoofer stolen out of my car I went back in for a replacment. I got to work with Anthony who could of suggested some much more expense models to me but sold me what was fair and reasonable for what level of sound I was going for.I left quickly as I was in a hurry and against his initial reccomendation that I listen to a variety of music before settling on that subwoofer. Needless to say he was right and I returned ready to spend more money and get a bigger boombox .Instead of just taking my $ he went in and fixed the settings on my amplifier and deck making it perfect. I just bought a new Fiesta ST, and wanted to upgrade the sound system a bit. I've always had distinctly positive experiences with this Stereo King location, so I popped out to see Jason and Jeff, to see what we could do to bolster the sound quality in the car. Jason took plenty of time in explaining different options for my particular vehicle, and made some suggestions based on what I expressed being important to me. Jeff echoed Jason's product recommendations, and they both jumped on the installation to minimize my down time as a self employed customer. Eventually the store got busy, and Jason returned to the front while Jeff completed the installation. One thing that always stands out to me about these guys, is their respect for my vehicles. I'm not a wealthy guy, but do take care of whatever I own or lease-and these guys really seem to share that mentality. Jeff's work is flawless as usual, and it occurs to me that service like this has really become fairly rare. I couldn't be happier with their product suggestions-the stereo sounds great, and the pricing was very competitive. I wish I ran into employees like this in other businesses, but such is life-just gotta value the positive experiences where we can. read more

I had been doing my homework on an upgrade of an aftermarket stereo system for my 2002 Tundra. I went to all of the usual auto stereo shops in the Portland area, finally went to Stereo King. They sold me a Kenwood system that brings my truck totally up-to-date, looks clean and cost me almost $150 less than three other identical bids. Not that I went to them for the price, but on top of all this, they walked me through the entire process and then called me and showed me how the previous aftermarket system was incorrectly (and incidentally not clean/solid installed by a local ***toys shop). They cleaned it up for no additional cost. Then when it was all finished they walked me through the operation of the system. Additionally, they convinced me that there would be no significant improvement if I changed my speakers unless I wanted to spend a LOT more money, which saved a great deal of money. Awful customer service. The manager here is extremely rude and arrogant. Trying to have a conversation with him is like talking to a spoiled bratty 5 year old. Do not come here if you want good customer service in a timely manner. I waited an hour and forty five minutes longer than the time they said it would take and when I asked how much longer they acted as if it was my fault. read more

Service has been mediocre at best from what seems to be the manager, takes off on phone calls and does not even explain to you what is wrong with your situation, they take payment before the job is even started ensuring they can do shoddy work and get away with it. A 10 min job also takes an hour. Never seem ready upon arrival for appointments. Would have gave one star but our usual tech is nice. read more

Both Anthony and Jason were fantastic to work with. I had a couple emails back and forth and then called for some final questions. Drove in Friday and Jason explained the pros and cons of a couple stereos and then had my entire installation done within an hour. Then one of their "tech" guys showed me how ti use it. I have been a customer of Stereo King for a number of years. Great prices. Great products. Great people. I had Stereo King unstall an overhead dvd player in my Toyota Sequoia (03) a little over a year ago. Went to check it today and found the dvd player was no longer working. The unit is no longer under warranty so I went to Stereo King to see what they could do. Anthony gave me an amazing deal on a brand new unit. So thankful that companies still exist who understand customer service. I would give six stars if I could. read more

These guys did a fantastic job putting a double din Kenwood in my little Boxster dashboard. Looks neat and tight and professional. Ran a camera to the back with no visible wires, messed up screw heads, loose carpet or whatever. Sat radio antenna, still have found it but works fantastic. It wasn't cheap but I wasn't looking for cheap. We got caught up waiting for Kenwood's latest deck release but they upgraded me at no cost and, kept me informed, on their list, and called as soon as it was available. I visited stereo king at the Gresham location a few months ago to have an amp and sub speaker system installed in my vehicle. they got it all installed in about 2 hours gave me time to get something to eat and wait a while in their lounge, which had a TV with a few channels to keep you occupied. when they were all done the bill came to approx. $130. (not sure how the price compares to other establishments) and i was on my way. On the drive home i quickly noticed prescription medication had been stolen from my glove box which was kind of upsetting, and wrong. when i returned home i then noticed my car was leaking gas. i inspected further and noticed they secured my amp to the floor behind the drivers seat with screws that also punctured my gas line. So i took my car to the mechanic and he fixed the problem and stereo king gladly paid the bill. the only reason i gave 2 star and not one was because they were happy to resolve the problem with the gas line, i never revived my medication back. not sure if this was just a one time thing or not, point is, i would think twice before having stereo king work on your vehicle. read more

WORST STEREO PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. Terrible customer service and the staff is demeaning and tries to make you feel stupid. After telling them I knew nothing about amps or subs they got me a "deal" and said I'd be good to go. They left out the fact I'd need ALL the wiring and none was included at all. When I came back the next day they were absolutely no help at all so I called outrageous audio and they tested all my old wires right away, talked with me about what'd I'd need and got me out the door for half the price. Been a long time customer of stereo king, about 10 years. However, I will no longer be shopping at this establishment. Their service is terrible, their staff is not friendly, and even the manager looks like a bum. Once a place a guy could get a decent deal on stereo equipment, now a rip off. Trying to sell me the same speakers I just returned to best buy that were 32.00, cost 77.00 at stereo king. I'm not sure what went wrong with that place, however I assume it's the manager. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. They also love to sell refurbished crap, and probably won't be upfront about it. read more

Called in to get a modulator. They told me it was $50. I came in and told me they thought the guy that had just came in and bought it was me and it was the last one. (I should have put it on hold) so they discounted a different model to near $50 as much as they could. Still spent $60 less than the closest competition, meaning amazing prices. Worst service I have ever received, and it was by the OWNER. I had a remote start put in my car by Stereo King. After having the car all day, they called and said it was ready. When we picked it up, it wouldn't start at all! However, they said it started for them and were completely prepared to send it out the door. They blamed this on a "weak cell" in my brand new AC Delco battery. We replaced the battery anyway, had the old one checked (was found to be in perfect condition). Stereo King then kept it another full day and said the would try a new module, which they did not. When I walked up to pick the car up a second time (they said it was READY) it didn't start, again. Not just with the remote mind you, the car would not start at all. As is turns out, they DID NOT replace the module like the told us they would, they "reset it" and let it sit overnight. On my third trip back, Jason (awesome and smart technician) replaced the module in minutes, thus resolving the problem. Now, 2 weeks later, the remote start doesn't work, again. When I took it in, the OWNER was not only rude but was unmoved by the fact that this was the THIRD comeback on this car and told me he couldn't help me today and that I could drop it off in the morning and he would see if they could get to it. Not an option for me since I have a JOB! They have a "first come first serve policy, no appointments are taken and they keep your car all day! Before leaving, baffled and angry I asked the OWNER if he would come out and just take a quick look. He said "I'll take your work for it." WOW. So, I asked for Jason, who came out, made a minor adjustment with a screwdriver and it works perfect. Stuff happens, a screw was loose. That is not my complaint. However, having someone take 5 minutes to take a look was not an option the OWNER offered me.I had to push back to get what I needed, (again, for the third time). He couldn't have cared less about my inconvenience of the terrible experience I had already had. All 3 times I dealt with him he was rude, disengaged and at one point, actually talked to me with his back turned. Worst service I have ever received, hands down from any retailer. read more

beyond happy with the deal I got from Stereo King. I have a Honda Accord 05 and the dreaded stock stereo failed. (I am not alone)First the light goes, then if you start hearing random speaker booms and it goes off and on all the time you are about to lose yours too! Honda doesn't seem to care and I heard they will replace the faulty stock stereo with a new faulty one for a mere $600.00. Not in my budget. Honda accord has two options for after market Stereo kits.. leave the bad one in the dash and install a new one under it. I really didn't want that look. I wanted to swap out the upper part. A little more money to replace the whole panel. After shopping around the quotes were about as much as Honda. But I kept trying to find a better deal for what I wanted. Thanks to the manager to Stereo King he made a few phone calls and matched the price I found for the after market kit and got me a really good deal on the install I wanted. Beating the other stores by over $100.00 and installed it the same day. This was my second install from these guys and both times I shopped around and both times I ended up here. read more
