This place came highly recommended by good friends. We were excited to try it and did so on the snowy day when it was open. We walked in and were seated in a few minutes. The atmosphere is great. It was warm and inviting. The problem came after we were seated. We waited 15 minutes before a server approached us. Other servers walked by without even acknowledging us. Our server finally approached us and said he will be with us in a few minutes. Five minutes later still no server. When he did finally take our order we had 2 of the house brews which were delicious. But again it took forever for him to bring our beer. We ordered the brussels sprouts as the appetizers and they were good, not excellent but good. Our entrées were barbecue pulled pork and beef brisket. The food was good, again just good not excellent. The food was average but the service was so poor that soured our experience. We had really been looking forward to dining here because we love barbecue. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. Visited on a Saturday evening after picking fruit at Linvilla. It was about 5:30 pm. I called ahead to see if there was a wait and was treated as if I were hassling the staff, an attitude that continued through our whole visit. We arrived - 3 adults, one child - and waited at the host podium. About three minutes later, one of the staff members finally stopped chatting to the other and came over to greet us. Then she disappeared to look for seating for us. Four minutes later she still hadn't returned. Someone else came by, basically rolled her eyes at us, and went find us seats. The dining area is small, and the tables are even smaller. Check out my photo for how much room each tray of food takes up on your table. This is a place that wants you to order beers, apps, entrees... They also crowd your table with a 4-pack of barbecue sauce. I don't see how they think this size table is sufficient for 4 people. Similarly, you can barely walk to your table in between other tables and you feel like you are eating in someone else's lap. All this would be fine if the food or the beer or anything to write home about. They aren't. As others have commented, their beer selection is small for advertising themselves as a brewery. Beers were decent, nothing standout. Same with the barbecue. Macaroni and cheese was above-average, everything else was overpriced and served on a tiny little table by staff who seemed annoyed by every question we asked them. (At one point, the server came over to ask how our food was and was actively talking to another table *at the same time.* It wasn't so busy that this kind of 'multitasking' was necessary.) Unsafe seating during COVID. The main dining area was full, except for 2 tables, until they sat a couple next to us. Uncomfortably close, my party and the party just sat did not know what to do. Stopped at this place randomly after a 6 mile hike in Ridley Creek State Park. Parking was easy to find and staff was friendly. I ordered the cider, split the pitmaster pizza, and a side or sweet potato fries. The fries were . Very good! And came with two different sauces that were both equally dynamite! First off with the good, I really enjoyed the beer. Besides that the service was slow and the pulled pork was basically beef jerky it was extremely over cooked and almost impossible to eat. The Mac and cheese was cold when it arrived and the coleslaw was garbage. The atmosphere is nice and the bar/restaurant is in a good location but my food was over cooked leftovers. read more

I wasn't satisfied today because our waitress wasn't very attentive, we had to wait forever for silverware drinks orders were not retaken, when they finally were they never came. We were looking forward to trying the BBQ here after some friends recommended the Sterling Pig but were kind of disappointed. The nachos (we added pulled pork) were great, but two family members were disappointed in the French Onion soup. The pulled pork in our entrees was decently flavorful, but the ribs and brisket weren't. The sauces were only ok. Two family members were also let down by the burger and salmon offered. The mac and cheese with the platter was bland and the cornbread dry. Honestly, Mission BBQ does much better in the food department and at a cheaper price. The servers were polite and responsive, however personally my pulled pork sandwich was cold. And while we had a party of 8, half of the meals came a full 5 minutes before the other half, and one of the servers forgot a salad. Also, our male server had extremely long and unkempt hair which was not at all restrained, and I am almost certain that is a health code violation. My husband and I came for lunch on a Saturday afternoon but ended up walking out. We were seated by the hostess but were then totally unaknowleged for at least 20 minutes while the two servers literally sat around on their phones. It was infuriating and absolutely unacceptable. Went there for lunch and ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich. Without exaggerating, one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had. Added their Carolina Mustard BBQ sauce and it somehow made it even better. My coworkers ordered the burger, brisket sandwich, wings, and hummus salad and everyone said they loved the food. As far as drinks, I'm not usually the type to get a beer at lunch but it was a Friday and the bartender was friendly and recommended the Pilsner. I was not disappointed. However, the food was a huge disappointment. I was expecting great BBQ based on reviews. However, it was incredibly average. It wasn't gross. It wasn't complaint worthy. Just so average for the high pricetag. It had a very trendy vibe. Which isn't necessarily my type of place. However, if you like hipstery/ trendy spots, it's a good pick for you. This is an honest review. Owner pay attention. I was there today and we sat in the dining area. I was very impressed with how polite the staff was, and how clean the restaurant was too, besides seeing a young man shoving a broom that was on the floor into the pizza oven (which I have no idea what he was doing). It had a blue handle and blue bottom (to verify that is in fact what I saw). That pretty much prompted me to not get the pizza. We ordered the "piggies in blankets" as an appetizer. These were bland and seemed like something a child could make at home. No exaggeration. It was flavorless and was not "bbq" in any way. Maybe do something with the pastry you're wrapping them in? We ordered wings and the flank steak. I asked the waiter if the wings were spicy (I'm a huge wing fanatic), and he said no. So I got them chipotle style. I have to say, they actually do not fry the wings. They cook them using the smoker, true bbq style! (Just because you cook something and put spices and bbq sauce on it, does not make it barbecue!) the wings weren't spicy, and the sauce wasn't excellent, but you could definitely taste the smoky flavor and that was great. I would order them again. The steak? Terrible. She ordered it medium and it was prepared well. And had no flavor, or what flavor it had was not very tasty. Served with fries, as we weren't asked what side and forgot to look before hand. At $22 for the steak and very small side of fries, you would think they'd step it up a notch, but this was a total bust. Way too much for so little, and even if it was a smaller portion, it should've wow'd the taste buds at least. Beer was great and cold. Smaller glasses than I would like but they were moderately priced. Overall the atmosphere is somewhat mixed. It's a bbq joint but with a small hipster feel. Mostly because the decor is simple but kinda upscale too. With it being themed a bbq brewery, Im not convinced those two things mesh well. Additionally, and I'm not complaining, the music was mismatched I felt. Bbq joint playing incubus and 311 is kinda cool I guess but it's kinda odd don't you think? I guess I could come back. For the bar and not for the dining atmosphere. Seems like I could drink a few and have some wings but that may not be what most patrons are looking for. Hopefully the next time I come in, I try something a little better, not as expensive, and young men will keep the broom out of the oven. Awesome spot! Our bartender yesterday (Mary Kate ) was so friendly and helpful. It was our first time there and she helped us navigate the beers and the awesome menu. We started with the Brussel sprout app... Awesome. I was torn between the pulled pork and brisket.... On bartender recommendation i got the brisket. PHENOMENAL! I know my date was jealous of how moist and flavorful my sandwich was. Beer selection was well rounded. I was visiting the area and wanted to try A BBQ joint and a brewery. This place for the bill. The atmosphere is nice, you can see the wood fired pizza oven as you eat. The beer- disappointing. It was ok, but the flavor seemed flat, nothing like up my mouth. The chili was very good, thick with brisket. The BBQ disappointed s bit. The bark on the brisket and pulled pork was very good. The pulled pork was hand pulled, not chipped and that was good, but it was dry. The ribs were cooked well with a clean bite, there was little flavor. The brisket was where I had the most issue. It has a decent flavor, but it was cut with the grain of meat, so it was tough and I had to use a knife to eat it. Overall it is a nice place and I may be back, but would hesitate to recommend. read more

OK... was LOVING this place... and went back recently for brunch with a couple of friends. I'm 9 mos pregnant and was CRAVING cornbread... so I was particularly excited and focused... and WOW this place couldn't have dropped the ball more. I ordered the breakfast tacos without meat (vegetarian) but with avocado slices instead- and a side of cornbread. My friends got the breakfast combo which was a bunch of meats. My husband tried the breakfast poutine. I should also mention that we had our toddler in tow. She was happy and playing. Waitress comes back with server and interrupts conversation at least 4 times between when we ordered and when we saw food arrive to let us know about things they can't do... starting with NO CORNBREAD- not ready yet. It was like noon... but ok... then my friends sides weren't okay so they had to order different ones... then we ordered more drinks and they were out of a drink that they had just brought us seconds before? Then the food comes... for $14, I get 2 small tortillas, scrambled eggs, american cheese, and a tiny side cup of guacamole. Womp womp.... and my husband couldn;'t even eat his breakfast poutine. He said it was like an oil slick of gravy with no meat as outlined on the menu... but nobody noticed or asked... and then my friends food came out missing the sides that they had just been talked into reordering. By this point they just let it go. My daughter needed a diaper change and my husband took her to the car. During the 5-10 minutes they were gone, a host tried to take her high-chair and give it to another table... Now that we're eating, they're told again that the restaurant doesn't have cornbread and that they could add something else on if they wanted. We'd been here about an hour. They tried to add on and the add-ons never came. They just asked for a little extra meat to-go. It came out on a plate... After the check came and we decided to split it, a host came by with crayons for my daughter (we'd been here about an hour and a half now)... and wait... they double charged my friend... who almost a week later is trying to straighten out her bill... and has now accrued 4x charges. Management- HELP! WTF happened to this place? For $60 for brunch that we couldn't eat/ didn't enjoy... we were shocked... and really bummed! Train your people! The brews were pricey, but great, the food was very overpriced, some was undercooked, and I was sick all night and the next morning after eating. It had been quite a while since my last meal (that my husband also ate), I was the only one to get sick, and the symptoms started soon after the meal -leading me to believe there were no other variables than the food I ate at SP. The brew list looked fantastic, they were out of a few I wanted to try. Piggy Stardust and the cider were fantastic -although twice as expensive as I would've expected to pay for a craft beer -also, the sniffers and glasses were oddly the smallest I've ever seen -don't expect a pint. The French onion soup was good, but expensive for the quantity. The pigs in a blanket were not that great and were severely overpriced -$10 for 9 (smaller than average) wrapped cocktail franks. The salmon was good, perfectly cooked. The accompanying asparagus was tasty, but a few were thin and so woody or overcooked, I couldn't chew them. The risotto had good flavor, but it was really undercooked. I like al dente and I'm not terribly picky so I tried to eat it anyway -but it was straight up undercooked and after a few bites of trying I was grossed out and gave up. The waitress offered to bring something else out, but I was full and so she offered to take a little off my bill -she ended up taking off $4.50, which was nice -but considering it was a $21 dish and the risotto comprised more than half of it.... ah, well. Our waitress was friendly and fast -the atmosphere is great! However, I wouldn't return again. Had high hopes for this meal after looking at the menu online. We had the brisket poutine. What it was lacking was brisket and poutine it was gravy fries with a few drops of cheese and some brisket crumbs. Then it was on to the Pickle-brined Fried Chicken. I had it with sweet potato fries, corn bead, and brisket beans. If you look at the photo you will see I got three thighs one of them was undercooked ( cardinal sin of cooking) very little meat was very disappointed with it. Classically you would have thought breast, thigh, and leg but no three of the cheapest chicken. The sweet potato fries were limp not crisp should be toped with a sprinkle of sea salt but nothing was done. Brisket Beans well I got beans no trace of brisket to be found they did taste good and would have been better if there had been brisket in it as advertised. The corn bread was crumbling and tasted ok could have been brushed with honey or something. All and all not impressed and no one in my group seems impressed ether with their selections. I seriously do not understand why this restaurant receives such excellent reviews. I've been twice and on both occasions I was deeply disappointed. On my first visit, we arrived for lunch. I'm not much of a meat-eater and had a difficult time deciding what to eat off the menu, but that was on me. Never bring a salad eater to a restaurant specializing in smoked meats. I did try some of the brisket and was underwhelmed. It was dry yet somehow greasy at the same time. The highly recommended Brussel sprouts came out very pleasing to the eye - served in a skillet with bacon and slightly blackened on the outside. They were also extremely oily to the point of being inedible and undercooked on the inside. It seemed that bacon grease was the only seasoning used as they were also practically flavorless and required salt to make them palatable. The macaroni and cheese looked very satisfying but the sauce was too thick and dry and also lacking a base flavor. Lunch sat in my gut like a rock and I wasn't planning on returning. However we decided to give the Media location one more chance for brunch. Two of us ordered made-to-order omelets. Instead of getting the omelet that I ordered, the cook decided to combine the ingredients we both ordered (separately) and to make one very large omelet. This is a serious concern for those with food allergies and special diets because opting not to put an ingredient in your breakfast should yield a meal free of that ingredient. Instead, my vegetarian omelet was combined with bacon and cheese without comment. It also contained an enormous amount of black pepper which I can only tolerate in small amounts. There was so much pepper in my omelet that it was visible to everybody at the table. The Brussel sprouts remained the same as they had previously - oily, undercooked and flavorless and an order of French fries were over-cooked to the point of being burnt. Such disregard for guests' orders and overall quality was appalling. There are so many fine places to eat in Delaware County. The Sterling Pig is not one of them. When they first opened the food was terrible! But at least the beer was good, which is good when the word "brewery" is in the name. Now that some time has passed, we decided it was time for an update. My wife and I found that the food has improved quite a bit...but it is still hit or miss. They are trying... but consistency still eludes them. Dry, moist, over smoked, bland you never know. On a positive note, beer has gotten even better! Damn fine! You can almost always get a seat at the bar, which is good...but the reasons why point out the biggest issues that they still have to overcome. The bar feels like an 1800's Turkish prison, it has all the warmth of an off brand gas station restroom...in Camden...in the summer....Smells like it too............ They have no happy hour, I'm thinking that they don't want too many people coming in at one time, to overwhelm the kitchen. Great beer, okay barbeque. I've been by here a bunch of times on my way to Redbud so decided it was finally time to try it. The beer list was heavy on IPAs, which is a turnoff for me, but the single-hop Citra IPA was, if not my preferred style, still very good. The Baltic porter, for which they won an award, was excellent. I'm definitely impressed by the brewing here. The food was less inspiring, falling into the common suburban trap of oversweetness. (Gordon Ramsey would have a fit!) They served the barbeque sauces on the side, but the ribs had a sweet rub on them, so there was no way to escape the sugar. They also were not the best: neither fall-off-the-bone nor chewy, they were pretty much just hunks of meat with occasional chunks of gristle. The Brussels sprouts were good at the top but got soggy and oversweetened resting in a pool of maple syrup. The place was hopping but not overly crowded on a Friday night, and it's nice that it's off the main drag, though it is next to a busy street so can be a bit noisy outside. The bar inside seemed to have a bunch of regulars, and they had a nice classic playlist. I won't hesitate to return for a casual dinner and beer, but I'll avoid the barbeque. read more

TERRIBLE PLACE! I was a patron at the West Chester location and as I was waiting by the outside tables for my ride after dinner, a wasted patron proceeded to use numerous slurs against my fiancé and me. I told him he couldn't speak to us like that. His wife said he was wasted and overserved at Sterling Pig. A member of the waitstaff said I did a good job telling him off and another agreed. However, when I went inside to tell the bartender, he told me that I couldn't sit at the the bar and he didn't want to deal with that patron. I asked to speak with a manager and he did not care that another patron spoke to us that way. He was not interested in hearing about what happened and instead said I should've called the police. This was a poorly handled situation where a patron was over served and management did not care about their behavior or slurs. 3/5 for food. I've been here multiple times for drinks and can't complain. They have a decent variety- lots of IPAs but I'm more of a wheat beer and Pilsner person. Today I had the Hockroberfest and thought it was good. Food- this was our first experience eating here. For some reason, our menus only came with page two (without the apps) which we did not realize until after our food arrived and the table next to us was seated. We shared the BBQ sampler (pork brisket and ribs with two sides). It was enough for two adults to share (we wanted a small meal and were not starving). We hav Mac and cheese and sweet potato fries as sides. The meal was served lukewarm at best- I like my food hot. The brisket was seasoned well and full of flavor. We had to wait about five minutes for our server to requests BBQ sauces to eat with our meal- which the two we had were good. This was our first time eating at Sterling Pig. It was disappointing. We (a party of 5 adults and 1 child) arrived at 6:15pm and were told we would soon be seated shortly after the current customers had vacated. While waiting to be seated, three times we were told that arriving customers called to request a table and were therefore seated before us. This went on for 40 minutes before we were seated. Although our 3 year old child was well behaved, it was challenging keeping her occupied. When we were finally seated, we were told that they were out of ribs and brisket. We ordered two appetizers, chicken wings and nachos. Our chicken wings took an exorbitant amount of time to prepare and finally arrived overcooked and dried out. In addition, the Nachos were burned and a second batch of Nachos had to be prepared once again resulting in another delay. For the excessively Long wait, Management did not attempt to offer us any compensation for our inconvenience. This was disappointing. The food tasted good but service was less that adequate. Afraid I would not recommend this restaurant to customers who did not have a tolerance for long delays and sustained patience. Our Server was apologetic for the long delays clearly outside of her control. Unfortunately, Management needed to communicate this to the customer. read more

Our table snagged a whole host of items and all felt the same at the end, everything was just OK. The wings are incredibly overcooked and the brisket super dry. The wings are supposedly smoked first? Honestly couldn't tell bc they were in the fryer so long you could've crunched the entire wing into a ball. The life was fried right outta them. Kids pizza was sizable and the nachos looked great (and huge!), but we all left with the same look of disappointment on our faces. Bad day? Could've been, sure. My girlfriend and I have been waiting for a new microbrewery in this area with some anticipation. We arrived on a Saturday night just in time to take one of the last of the half dozen or so spots in the parking lot. We felt fortunate. There was a half hour wait for a table so we went down to the bar area. My girlfriend and I both enjoyed the simple, industrial decor. We each enjoyed our beers, one of their many IPA's and an unfiltered hefeweizen. Nothing groundbreaking, but very drinkable. The idea of the garage door-style open windows are a nice idea for the bar space, but they decided to open them in muggy 90 degree weather, which quickly made the space unpleasant. For dinner my girlfriend ordered the cheeseburger and I ordered the barbeque combination plate. The combination includes their pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. I asked if it were possible to get the combination without the pulled pork, and the waiter happily complied. I presumed, as it turned out incorrectly, that they would supplement the brisket and ribs to make up for the removed pulled pork. The plate arrived with two ribs, and one piece of brisket, thin and long, similar in size to the ribs. There was so little meat on the plate that I thought there had been a mistake. When the waiter informed me that it was not I asked him to bring me the pulled pork that was supposed to come with the meal, which he did happily and promptly. The waiter had interpreted my request quite literally, and to his credit he was nothing but polite about the entire situation. However, I am troubled by the mentality that you would presume that a customer would be willing to spend $20 on a dish, and would have no problem with having what turned out to be more than half of the meat removed from the portion. (When the pulled pork arrived there was quite a bit of it, making me think that its primary function is to fill out the dish.) The sides were hit and miss. The mashed potatoes were very good, nice texture and nice flavor. The four fork-fulls of cole slaw was absolutely forgettable. The one inch wide stick of corn bread, a portion that made me feel as though the kitchen was putting me on a diet, was dry and flavorless, Here is where I struggle with this meal. I can understand a restaurant trying to maintain reasonable portion size. Especially at barbeque restaurants I think Americans are generally accustomed to ridiculous, and no doubt unhealthy amounts of food. So I have to recognize that I am probably a bit spoiled in this instance. At the same time, if you are going to charge $20 for two ribs, one piece of brisket, and a bowl of pulled pork, the flavors had better be amazing. The rib meat should fall off the bone, and the sauces should be exciting and complex. None of this was the case. It was alright, and only alright. I have had barbeque from neighborhood take-out places that do it far better and for far less money. I left feeling cheated. I do want to say that my girlfriend very much enjoyed her $14 cheeseburger, but what made it worth $14 dollars I cannot say. I read one of the previous interviews for this restaurant with interest as it compared this place favorably with any of the restaurants you might find in Northern Liberties/Fishtown. Do not be fooled. I lived in Fishtown for seven years, and we go back there frequently to eat. (Where, I should point out, you can get an amazing burger for $10.) The Sterling Pig at this point does not come anywhere close to the quality you would generally find in that area. This place has some positive things going for it, and since there as so few places in the suburbs where you can get a good beer, let alone a beer made on sight, I would very much like this place to succeed. In order to do that, they will have to deal with the parking situation, and they are going to have to do something Herculean with their barbeque, especially if they are going to have the word "pig" in their name. I am sure we will go back and give it another chance, perhaps when they have been open a bit longer and have been given the opportunity to work out some kinks. I sincerely hope they are able to develop some solutions to these issues. read more

Started off great when the wings and fried pickles came out within 10 minutes of ordering and with all fairness they were both pretty good. However my boyfriend got a burger and it came out extremely undercooked where he got through half and couldn't stomach the rest. The ribs were so dry and burnt, what little meat there was could be called jerky. Brisket and pork had potential but lack flavor and were cold when we got it. read more

Sterling Pig is yet another creation by the same guy who brought Media Diego's (OK), Belle Epoque (Can be great can also be so-so) and Picasso (Not good - and shares the SAME KITCHEN as Belle). Decor is Rustic at SPB and my husband enjoyed a specialty IPA. ($6). The food is way, way over priced especially for the meh quality. My Flank Steak salad had a small portion of delicious sliced steak over a bed of boring mixed greens with 3 (no kidding, 3) tiny cubes of diced tomato. I asked for more tomatoes and they were brought. No cucumbers were available. For $16 that is kinda steep. DH also had flank steak - his was also a small portion (too small in his opinion) served with grilled zucchini, red and yellow peppers. $22. (Whoa.) Our kid had the pulled pork sandwich ($14) sans coleslaw. It was very smoky and kinda dry. She added BBQ sauce to it. Brioche bun was tasty. The fries that came with the sandwich could be a memoir all their own. They literally glistened with grease and were so oil-soaked it was almost comical. They were presented in a cute "mini fry-basket" lined with paper that el kiddo said "was (clearly) not doing it's job". No way for $6 I would have ordered a separate side of these oil-slick fries. Unless I am dragged here by fellow Media-ites, I am in absolutely no hurry to return to SPB. Stick to the beer and you'll be fine. read more

Really surprised that this place does not have a higher star rating, but the 3-star reviews seem confused by how the star rating works based on what they wrote, so maybe that's what's wrong? Anyway, dropped by here today after a hike, sat outside (lovely outdoor area, shaded) and had great service. The beer was fantastic (and very well priced for the quality), the pizza was delicious and out in maybe 5 minutes (even though it was very busy), and the service was attentive, quick, and friendly. Took the family out for dinner and was really hoping that we may have found a solid brew pub set apart from the Iron Hills of the world. Unfortunately our experience both in food quality and atmosphere was quite the disappointment. The prices were far and away excessive for basic fare. My daughter ordered the bbq pulled pork sandwich (which was about an ice cream scoop of pulled pork with NO bbq sauce). My wife and second daughter ordered the short ribs which were loaded with fat (I watched as they both separated the meat from excessive fat....not enjoyable). I ordered the personal bbg chicken pizza which was acceptable although certainly not worth the $16.00 price tag. My last issue with food items is the "complimentary" order of French fries that accompanied the pulled pork sandwich. I'm assuming it was about an 8 ounce wire basket with approximately 15 thin cut, soggy and oil enriched potato sticks. One of my greatest concerns is the outdoor seating that is available. While we understood the traffic issues we did not anticipate the apparent sewage aromas that continually wafted across our table. I'm not sure but there may be a leak on or near the property but rest assured that on a warm evening with a slight breeze you to will be offended. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate the beer selection and quality to be a 7. While well balanced the menu selection was adequate. Perhaps overtime the management will continue to develop a signature selection that will attract future customers. For this reviewer the $120.00 bill (which included the above food items and 5 beers) was and is ridiculous. The parking is almost non-existent and whatever you do don't park in a spot with a white sign because the towing company will hold your car for ransom. (even on a Sunday which I found odd since the business was closed) Unfortunately we will not be patronizing the Sterling Pig in the near future. Perhaps if they relocate, revisit the menu and prices, improve upon the quality of their beer I may consider a second chance. read more
