Excellent buying experience with Gus today. No pushy sales, and we negotiated a fair deal. Professional service. Very happy.

So, there was this lady out driving around on February 1, 2023, and she wasn't paying attention to my car going through the intersection and I couldn't avoid her. I'll spare you all her drama and hysterics. End result, this particularly unpleasant lady's negligence resulted in my car being totaled. After what I thought was an appropriate mourning period, I felt ready to welcome another Ford Escape back into my life. Finding right one was a tiresome process. Some didn't match their profile photo, and that was just a deal breaker. I wanted to have my dads blessing when I thought I found one I could be happy with. He inspected the profile and agreed. So yesterday afternoon we drove to Barron's Auto Sales and Details. It was pretty much love at first sight. My soon to be 2010 Ford Escape was just sitting there all golden and gleaming in the sunshine peeking through the clouds. We got the keys and me and my dad took it for a little test drive. I felt right at home sitting behind the wheel. My dead was impressed with the way it drove. We both agreed I should buy it. My finances were limited as I haven't been paid for my beloved 06. We went into the office and met Hugo Lara and discussed a price we were both happy with. I'm almost embarrassed to admit this but I've never bought a car on my own. Ive always used my own money but my dad has always been there and I'm so grateful for that. So I thought I was going into this with pre approval. Nope. So I'm also grateful for Mr. Lara for giving me a brief education on how pre approval works and his efforts to secure an auto loan for me with a reasonable monthly payment and interest rate. Thank you Hugo Lara for making a used car purchase a pleasant experience. 2023 Review-#5

And most importantly, WITHOUT trying to "sell" us. There was no haggling or tricks and they were completely forthcoming with the vehicles history condition etc. On a street of endless used-car dealerships and desperate salespeople, Barrons seriously stood out among the lame competition. And welcomed us as a young couple without looking to take advantage. With help from Sushi and Theresa they were urgent in addressing a few minors such as tire pressure and alignment before purchasing, and we were able to get my wife a reliable and new car that makes me honestly jealous...

For us, we located THE truck we wanted, and it just happened to be at 5th Gear Motorz. So, other than a few Yelp reviews (good ones!), we didn't have much to go on. Let me tell you.... our experience was so good that we will look to them for our future used car purchases. And I'm not talking about the experience of a customer that walked in, got a good deal and walked happily into the sunset. No, there is always "that one car" that can have a problem, and where the rubber meets the road is HOW that company supports you AFTER the sale. Especially when buying used. The owner is a master mechanic and checks out all cars to make sure they are sellable beforehand. Good to know. So we got our truck home, and the first thing that happened was it didn't start two days later. We called, and instantly they arranged to get us a new battery. I was impressed. Then, it didn't start again, this time with a new battery that was drained. Wow... OK. They took it in, troubleshot the problem, and thought it was good to go. And then it happened again. Long story short: It took the owner, literally testing each and every circuit to figure out the issue. The starter had worn off in the AUX position, and when you turned off the truck, you could still pull the key out in AUX. Talk about a random, totally difficult thing to diagnose! They promptly bought and installed a new starter --- problem solved, Let me tell you, THESE GUYS STAND BEHIND THEIR SALE. Period. In a day and age where people give less customer service, and don't really care, 5th Gear stands head and shoulders above the rest. I'm sure 99% of all their cars drive off the lot with zero issues... but there's always that ONE vehicle... and we just happened to get it. And they stuck with us, got it solved quickly, and never quit making it right. They've got a loyal customer for life. And we love our truck!! Thanks guys!

Here's the reason why I WON'T EVER Go back to 5th gear: We went in, looking for a cheap, older model Honda, or Toyota. A really nice, older guy was helping us, and we were rather sad, that they didn't have any cars that we remotely liked. Along comes the slick owner, or manager with his alligator boots, painted on jeans, leather suit jacket, and slicked back hair, (this sounds like a bad Starsky and Hutch episode, but I swear, it's all true. Go in and ask to meet the manager, so you can see for yourself!) We wanted to leave the lot, but then, when that same manager found out that we had Cash, On Hand, he tried to sell me a car that he bought for his own son! Weird, huh? It got so shady, that the guy said we couldn't even be on the property, to do the deal. Wait. It gets better: I test drive the car, with the salesman. The salesman was yammering about how the manager would NOT buy a car for his son, if there was anything wrong with it... I decided totreat the salesman to a test: I got on Johnson Creek, then took 205 north, to Foster, then drove STRAIGHT to auto zone over on duke, where I asked them to do a free code check. The car came back with a myriad of codes...all bad... one of which was a problem with the torque converter. This is where I looked at the salesman, and he had the NERVE to say, "it's probably an O2 sensor!" I drove as fast as I could, back to the lot, then I told my husband I was dizzy, and hypoglycemic, and needed to get something to eat. Thank you to the food carts across the street!!!! I hope your presence has helped others get out of shady car deals too! I told my husband that was not the car for us, and that I didn't want an ATLAS MOTORS replay, where we agree to purchase a car, then get stuck with thousands in repairs. He agreed. I would say the sales guy was a little pushy, but nice...but, That slick manager? I now have a saying: "When Someone LOOKS like a stereotypical used car salesman...he probably IS a used car salesman." Its called Due Dilligence. If you can't take a used car from 82nd avenue to a mechanic BEFORE you buy it, at LEAST run it by those nice folks at auto zone first. They would be happy to run codes, for FREE! And, three weeks later, we saw the SAME car, across the street from the lot, for sale, by private owner.... Things that make you go, "Hmmmmmmm?" There are over 100, "Not Reccommended," reviews on yelp for 5th gear. I have read them, and everyone has similar stories about this place. Do you want to add to that?

My son bought a car there and Wayne told him "If anything goes wrong, just let us know and we'll see what we can do". My son had the car 2 weeks, drove it from Oregon to Colorado and it stopped in the middle of nowhere, you can imagine this was very stressful for all of us. He spend a lot of money getting it towed to a service station where the mechanic said the engine was shot and was going to be $8000 to get a new one and fix. This is much more than my son paid for the car. By the way, my son worked hard to save money WHILE he was going to college and spend most of it on this car. My son called the owner of East Side Sales, only to be yelled, interrupted an treated very disrespectfully. My sister, then proceeded to call the owner only to experience the same thing....she couldn't even get a word in. We all know why people do this because they are guilty and become defensive! He has taken it to another mechanic and his findings were the same - the engine is shot and the problem has been going on for some time. So it is obvious to us that this car sales lot is selling fraudulent cars!!!!! Don't trust them!!!!!!! Please!!!!!! The owener/manager is a HORRIBLE person!!!!

Better yet, do not come within a five mile radius of their lot to avoid getting hit by someone test driving one of their dangerous cars. Wayne Moore sold me a 2008 Hyundai Sonata, which broke down three days later. Wayne Moore and his manager, Ray, promised me that if I discovered any significant problems within the first few weeks, they would help me out. But after three days of driving, the engine and oil filter lights came on. When I pulled over to the side of the road, the engine seized, the brakes locked, and I rolled into a ditch, and I was left stranded by a highway in the middle of the night. After getting it towed to a car technician the next day, I was told the only reason the car had made it off the lot was because Eastside had filled it with heavier oil. The engine was destroyed, as there were chunks of metal ridden throughout the engine and the oil. The cost to replace the engine would be more than what I paid for the whole car. The next day, I took the car to a second technician, who confirmed the diagnosis. For some reason, I thought Eastside was a family owned name in cars I could trust. When I called Eastside, Wayne Moore refused to speak to me about the car, saying I could only talk to his manager Ray. I told Ray I had pictures to prove the engine was totaled and that the error code timestamps proved that the problem existed before I bought the car. When Ray said he didn't trust my technicians, I offered to pay the costs to take it to a third car technician of his choice. When he said he'd only take it back if he could look it over himself, I offered to pay the costs to tow it back to his lot. When he still refused, I told him I was between homes and couldn't afford to buy another car. He laughed at me. It was quite obvious that Ray and Wayne Moore knew that they'd sold me a lemon and didn't care at all about their reputations or their consciences. When I started the process of selling the car to a scrap yard for parts, I ran into another issue, which was that Eastside never took the car's title into its own name. This is a legal loophole in the state of Oregon that allows fraudsters to avoid taking responsibility for a car. So I had to spend a day at the DMV making the case that I was the victim of a fraudulent business and wasn't trying to pass on a stolen car, which I was eventually able to do after paying a large fee. If you look at some of the other reviews, you'll read about many other similar experiences. Many of the positive reviews are fake. The Cars.com 5-star review from Sep 15, 2016 was written by "Eastside Auto Sales." And another review on Carfax was written by Wayne. In these cases, they were too stupid or didn't care to come up with fake names for their fake reviews. This place has been in business since 1974 because their business model is taking in lemon cars for cheap from other lots and passing them on to their customers. Don't fall for it like I did.
