Car shopping? OH NO! I feel your PAIN!!!! We recently had the UNPLEASENT EXPERIENCE Ourselves. Our journey took us literally all over SW WA From Vancouver to the Canadian border, searching lots throughout Tacoma, Puyallup, Olympia, Everett ,Fife, Edmonds, Bellevue you name it we were not right on the lot we were on the phone speaking to every dealer possible .Than onto and all OVER Oregon from Portland to the border of Northern CA Searching for a certain Mercedes in BLACK Only. Even over east of the mountains. Finding less than 5 total of the cars we were seeking. Plenty of Mercedes of other colors and the smaller types. In early on we did find one just exactly what we wanted at Cascadia Motors...problem being my husband called and asked "RYAN" questions on an off day I guess that pushed a wrong button for them both. When my husband hung up the phone he grumbled, cussed up a storm and said he would not buy a thing from that man as he was RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. Now being in marketing business ourselves lifelong (not cars) my husband should totally get off days and put up with customers like my husband! We continued our search, finding one other. Always asking the important question DOES EVERYTHING WORK. Being told yes we made the 3 1/2 hr trip to discovery not everything did work therefore the Mrs. said NO making the man of the house less than amused by now. Reminding the wife that little things could be fixed but I held my ground and we made the drive home. Literally 100's more miles traveled hoping someone would trade one in on a new one but no such luck Finally THE MAN OF THE HOUSE SAID HE MIGHT HAVE TO DO SOMETHING HE HAD NEVER DONE BEFORE .... Very upset with them. First We were told the car we wanted was offered to a person for $23,000.00 who was coming on Saturday. Then he tells us first come first serve. After discussing the car with my wife since it checked all the boxes of what she wanted we made an appointment to come by and test drive Friday prior to purchase. After having to jump start the car to drive we still wanted to buy it for the $23,000.00 which we brought with us in cash. So he steps out of the office for a couple minutes and comes back and tells us the car is now $23,500.00 if we want it. He said to us if we were financing it he could negotiate a better deal. When I tried to meet them in the middle and ask them to help, the owner threw a tantrum and started belittling and insulting me. Dishonest. Had a deal in place with sales man "Jay" with him directly communicating with owner "weston". We were asked to come back in an hour and do paperwork. Came back and "Weston" said no deal was in place and they could not do the deal at the price we previously agreed upon. I asked for Jay to come to the office, he did, and confirmed that the owner previously agreed to the deal and even suggested the price we agreed upon. Weston, the owner, refused to honor his word... Keep this in mind as you speak to sales there that the owner will try to raise the price AFTER the fact. Update: Car list price was $12,987, deal made at $12,500 with Jay. Buying a car from Ryan A. at Cascadia motors was a surprisingly good experience. There were none of the high pressure sales tactics I was prepared for based on experiences with other dealers. We made an appointment a day ahead and we're assured it would not be offered to anyone else before we got there. We were left to look over the car in a clean indoor environment, got to test drive it for as long as we felt was necessary. The price was about what I was expecting. My impression was that they sell decent cars. Based on this car they were willing to take care of some expensive preemptive repairs (timing belt) in-house before putting the car up for sale. read more

I rarely give bad reviews. I've given a lot of good ones. But the vehicle we bought(2012 GMC Acadia Denali for $12999) here has been an absolute lemon. It's been a horrific experience. They told us it'd been checked out by a mechanic, fluids checked etc. From what we could tell, it seemed okay. We drove home to California and almost immediately began having problems. Our mechanics have even agreed it'd be unlikely to miss all of these problems. In less than a year, we've replaced the battery, starter, spark plugs, door panel, coils, & it's currently in the shop for most likely the transmission. This was a massive purchase for us & it's so discouraging. We reached out initially and didn't get a response. So mailed a letter with all paperwork a couple months ago & asked for a letter or email, so we could track our communication. We received an email that in summary said- sorry, too bad, part of buying a used car, & not even sure why we reached out. Some of these issues happened within weeks of getting home & they just don't seem to care. A new transmission is $9000 & not something we can do. Not sure what's next, but heads up if you buy a used vehicle- sad situation for us. Edited to add- we initially reached out via the contact form on the website. Never heard back, ended up just leaving it be, then once more things continued we sent the letter, which as stated below was not immediately. I understand why reimbursing for all repairs makes no sense for a business but it is discouraging when even other mechanics are saying some of these things would be hard to miss. And at the bare minimum? stating all fluids were changed but then finding black brake fluid & bad tranny fluid. A bad battery etc. I understand if we lived closer, we could've stopped in much sooner- a mistake we won't make again. I recently bought a car from Cascadia Motors after test driving cars at a number of different dealerships all over town. The level of service from these guys was leaps and bounds above anywhere else I had gone to. Weston was there when I first went in to take a look at the car and he gave me lots of space to check it out without feeling pressured. He also made it super easy to take the car for a test drive and inspection from a third party mechanic. The purchase process was really smooth and he let me know about add ons that they offered and answered all of my questions without any hard selling. I definitely felt like he just wanted me to be happy with my purchase and make the process as easy and stress free as possible. The day after purchasing, the check engine light came on. I reached out to Ryan about it and he organized to have one of their employees drive a loaner up to me so they could take a look at my car. It ended up being a small issue (which I expected since the pre purchase inspection looked great), but they got it fixed up for me without any hassle. Buying a car is always stressful, but honestly my experience here was super chill and so easy. The way they handled the check engine light was also totally unexpected, and really awesome of them. If I am agreeing to buy the car (which I was the first appointment for that day) why would I have to wait for someone else to come look and test drive the exact vehicle I want to buy. Had I not asked and simply bought the vehicle no questions asked, the dealer would have had to inform their next appointment that the car had been sold before their arrival. Appointments are pushed back in life, and trust me the next buyer would not have an issue with knowing that a pre-buy inspection was happening. It gives the consumer a peace of mind. Cascadia billed themselves as a different sort of car dealership, and I believed them. Drove an hour to check out a car they listed as being in excellent shape (had passed a 100-some point inspection with flying colors they said), but afterward when we had an independent mechanic take a look, turns out their service folks missed a number of issues (e.g., bad battery, bad tire, they damaged an air filter when installing it, etc.). Asked for a very modest, "good faith" amount of reimbursement to meet in the middle on additional costs, but Cascadia wouldn't budge. Said we should've brought the car back to have their people address some of these issues, but at that point I'm not sure I trust their service department. Thought they were different. Disappointed. Will head elsewhere for my next car. Word to the wise: get the car you're looking to buy checked out by an independent mechanic before you take Cascadia's word on the condition of their vehicles. read more

ACRID SMOKE AND SHALLOW MIRRORS I admit to allowing myself to be distracted by the shiny parts. The 2009RAV4 Limited with all the extra bells and whistles I came to check out the last Friday of April appeared to be in excellent shape. It looked good and drove really well. This dealer's service department obviously has mechanic/s who know/s what they're doing when it comes to vehicle maintenance and repairs. And the sales staff is great at giving you space to get to know the vehicle on your own - perfect for me and my need to minimize distractions when trying to focus on something important like buying a vehicle. So why did I ignore the red flags that came up as I checked out this RAV4 dream ? Not sure I will ever have the answer to this question but I do have some tips for others who are thinking about dealing with this dealer: * Engine - looked clean but the plastic engine cover was missing and the hood insulation was badly stained in several places. Not necessarily a deal breaker but just something to note here. * Tires were so new that they still had markings on them - Who made them? The DOT date code suggested they were manufactured several years ago. This reduces their life. Does the warranty for them transfer with the vehicle ownership? * VIN - why couldn't I see it in the little window on the windshield? I didn't know to check for it in other places on the vehicle but that one on the dash is the most important one. A VIN tag that's been tampered with or missing is just a deal breaker plain and simple - just walk away. * Back to the engine. The dealership gave me a free copy of the RAV's Carfax which includes the list of services performed by Cascadia Motors (the dealer's own, in-house service department). On this list was something I would have normally (but didn't at the time) checked into further: Cylinder head gasket replaced (refer back to my initial view of the engine above). * Here we come to a possible reason why I ignored the red flags: I had been researching RAV4s online and learned that this particular year model was mid-cycle with Third Generation design. Mid-cycle (2009 - 2012) was when Toyota replaced their flawed 2.4 with the legendarily durable 2.5 engine. The Dealer's RAV4 checks out as having the 2.5 engine so I just made the assumption that the engine would survive anything. This certainly made me overlook the head gasket replacement job as a minor hiccup which it may or may not be. Then it comes times to ask some questions before a test drive. * One question in particular elicited a element of defensiveness in the salesman's response: "What can you tell me about the vehicle being sold at auction?" His response, "it's common for trade-ins to be sold at auction by new car dealers," made sense on the surface but the edge of defensiveness in his voice still doesn't sit right with me. REDFLAG * The test drive was uneventful. The engine sounds and runs very well for a 13 year old vehicle. I didn't find anything wrong with the function of the vehicle other than my own innate distrust of automatic transmissions so I proceeded with the next steps of negotiation. * I did have trouble finding the VIN dash tag - seems to be missing somehow - is this possible? I ignored this REDFLAG * I also checked the online reviews of the dealer - mostly good comments related to their service department. But the bad reviews and the owner's responses to them were very disconcerting - even felt daunting to me, like a threat of what might happen if I were to try to post an honest review of any bad experience I might have with them. REDFLAG Most of the time behind the desk with the Salesman is a bit of a blur in terms of sequencing but here is a basic run down: * Service Contract offered for an additional fee: o I was given a brochure for a service contract company called aul Powertrain Plus, which makes so many promises that would be great but I consider the brochure just an advertisement and wanted to read the fine print up front. o When I asked for the fine print, I was merely told to read the brochure. Never could find any fine print on this - not even on the weareaul.com website. but I did find a significant list of complaints on the BBB website. o When I said I prefer to use my own mechanic, the response was "certainly, the small mechanic shops love aul because they will pay MSRP rates for parts even if your mechanic sources the actual parts from used car parts, or discount after market parts.". . . another red flag. . . Called to make sure they still had the Jeep from the CraigsList ad, took a cab to the place, took the Jeep for a test drive, had it independently inspected by a nearby auto shop, gave Weston an offer, signed a couple pieces of paper, then drove the Jeep home. No hidden warranty on the contract, no add-on negotiations after the price was negotiated (gap insurance, alarms, that kind of junk), no financing back & forth. As easy as it could have been, and believe me I'm always ready to do battle with used car dealerships. The Jeep itself is immaculate inside & out. I bought it 6 months ago and the only issue I've had was a power steering failure the auto shop predicted would happen (the basis for my negotiation). My partner and I were really excited to find this place after looking at 3 other cars, getting 2 inspected, and walking away with 0. We found an ad from Cascadia for a 2005 Prius with just 88k miles on it and a brand new battery (hooray!). Weston was friendly on the phone, the business checked out on yelp and google, and Prius reviews made it clear that we had found a great (but not too good to be true) deal. We showed up just as Weston was pulling the car out and heard a strange sort of clicking sound while it drove. I asked Weston what it might be, and he said the car had been sitting for a few weeks and just needed to warm up. That sounded reasonable. I asked if it had been sitting for a few weeks for any particular reason. Weston said he'd just brought the price down and was only now getting interest in it. Also reasonable. Weston was polite and walked away to let us climb in the car and check all of its parts uninterrupted. He popped back in a couple of times to see if we had questions. We saw that one of the brake lights was noticeably faint and pointed it out to Weston. He seemed mildly surprised and didn't offer any information about it--like why it hadn't been fixed when the car was serviced upon arrival at Cascadia. Not a big deal, just a little strange that it wasn't at least pointed out. I asked Weston if we'd be able to see the paperwork showing when the battery had been replaced (when I asked how long ago it had been replaced he said "not long ago, say, a month or two.") He said sure, he'd have to dig around, but, if we decided to buy the car we'd get all the info. His answer seemed a little evasive, so later I found myself more bluntly admitting that, while we were feeling really good about the car, we weren't comfortable paying to have it inspected without first seeing proof that the battery had been replaced. (For those who don't know, replacement of these batteries can cost around $4,000, so our interest in this car was entirely dependent on the recently replaced battery.) Now, here's the part that really baffles me. I admitted to Weston that we weren't comfortable moving forward without first seeing paperwork on the battery, and his chosen response was to turn around, and, as he walked away, toss back over his shoulder "yeah, I can try to dig it up for you but if you think this is the kind of place that would lie to you then maybe you shouldn't buy a car from us." Huh? I'm STILL trying to unpack this response. Why would someone ever say this to a prospective customer trying to have her bases covered before dropping $8,000 on a car? At its most innocent, this is a person who's a little touchy and could stand to improve his customer service. At it's vilest, this is someone who has been caught in a lie and is trying to worm his way out with as little consequence for the business as possible. Weston disappeared into his office for several minutes, and then returned and handed us an invoice with, sure enough, 'battery replacement' printed across the bottom of the list of items serviced. The VIN number matched that of the car fax, and we had no reason to feel anything other than relief. Unfortunately our instincts still overwhelmed us with a sense of unease. Could it be a falsified invoice? Could it have been a "new" (old) battery? (the prices were blacked out) Could there be some other reason why a salesman wouldn't be tripping over himself in his eagerness to show evidence that the car he wished to sell was everything the ad said it was? We couldn't be sure. So, lovely yelp readers, my partner and I walked away. We considered still making arrangements to have the car inspected, but we had been told before (by the last mechanic to look at a Prius for us) that there was no way to know (simply by looking at one) whether or not this type of hybrid battery had been recently replaced. There was no way to move forward with complete confidence. We might have just missed a great deal, but we might have walked away from a lemon. The more we thought about Weston's strange comment, the more we felt that we avoided a scam. We just can't think of any other reason why we would have been made to feel unwelcome for simply asking for service records on a car we desperately wanted to take home. Our instincts may have been wrong, but just in case they're not, be cautious when you shop at Cascadia. And please don't let one salesman's flippant attitude lead you to gloss over important details and drop money where you shouldn't. read more

I just had a terrible experience with Weston. He is extremely defensive and since he responds to all the reviews I've seen online so far, I will write my side of the story and see what he comes up with. I have been shopping for a car for a little over a week. I came in to check out a Prius. Liked it, let's get to talking. I wanted to put a higher amount down and finance the rest. I have bad credit and knew it would be a rough go but I wanted to finance in order to improve my credit. He put in for a loan, and later called me to say it was denied. I asked out of curiosity why, and he told me, and I said but I did have some of that, really more thinking out loud. He became very defensive and snapped at me to not argue with him. Whether you want to sell a car or not Weston, you do not speak to people the way you spoke to me in ANY circumstance, particularly one in which you stand to make money. He said he thought it best we sever our relationship and hung up. If he had stuck with me, my bottom line is I would have come back with a cashiers check for the full amount, but wanted to exhaust all financing options first. Weston, you are a sucky person in general, but a horrible salesperson. I see you are the owner. You need to consider a job where you don't have to talk to people, because your people skills and communication issues need a ton of work. So, someone else will be getting a full cash offer today and I will have my car. But never will I deal with Weston again. I deal with the public daily myself, and I promise everyone will hear about my experience there. He just has no interest in selling a car. UPDATE: Weston, YOU turned argumentative. I was in no way arguing with you and you know it. I left your place and purchased the exact vehicle you were showing me in cash. You lost a sale and hopefully will lose more. I suggest you stay off the internet responding to reviews, which is eerily obsessive, and work on your people skills. The way you dealt with me was unacceptable in any circumstances. Bought a used car from here a week and half ago, best car buying experience ever. Thank you Weston. The car was in the price range I was looking for and was just what we wanted. It did not come with a warranty as most used cars don't, I was fine with this because the car was nice, clean and passed DEQ. However a few days after passing DEQ the check engine light came on, which of course concerned me. We called Weston and he said to bring it back in and even without a warranty they would check it out and get it going again. They did, just as Weston said they replaced a bad catalytic converter at no charge to me , again with out a warranty.
