Busy restaurants are always a good sign when you walk in. This place is a clear favorite among locals that live in Helena. Very clean and well kept. The food was quite good. They mostly have breakfast items but we opted for lunch sandwiches. All of them were done well. Waiter was very attentive. Sandwiches were pretty good. Although we didn't get sodas or sweet tea, beware since the menu states only ONE refill. Could be an issue for some that are used to drinking lots more. read more

Great place for breakfast. Fast friendly service by well trained servers. Excellent food with homemade sausage. My favorite is the Italian Joe scramble which is full of fresh mushrooms,spinach and great Italian sausage. The sides are Marion berry or Huckleberry pancakes, and Fresh fruit which is always excellent even when I can't buy good fruit at the grocery store. A bit more expensive than some breakfast lunch places but the quality is worth it. Yum! read more

We tried three times to have brunch at Steve's on different Sunday mornings. Each Time we were greeted with a line out the door into the parking lot. On our fourth try we waited and came for a late lunch. 15 minutes before they were supposed to close, they were still busy, we got the last table. The cafe isn't very big, our party of five was seated at a table for four without an extra chair. There is only one table in the entire cafe that seats more than four. This isn't the place for large groups. Steve's is known for breakfast and the two members of our group who ordered breakfast were not disappointed. The breakfast burrito was excellent, though not spicy at all, and the humongous stack of stuffed pancakes, the special of the day, was obviously nirvana for any pancake junky with a sweet tooth. The three of us who ordered lunch were not so impressed. Both burgers were overlooked and the Italian meatball sandwich just missed. If Steve's were named steverino's I'd rant about how bad it really was, but, it isn't so I won't. They got an extra star from me because the breakfasts were really good. Also, still busy at the end of an obviously grueling shift the staff was upbeat, friendly and still dishing out great service. For breakfast, you can't go wrong with Steve's, it might be the best Helena has to offer. read more

Good (if not spectacular) food, quick/friendly service (we've never once had bad or rude service in at least ten times we've eaten) and they make a lot of the "hard stuff" (like sausage) on site. I never review anything on here but we were just passing through Helena on our roadtrip, pretty starved from camping up in the mountains, and i gotta say this was the perfect brunch place. Steve's Cafe is one of very few locally owned breakfast cafes in Montana's capitol city. They will be the first to brag about how good their breakfast is and they seem busy most of the time. I have eaten there on 3 or 4 occasions and though the food seems fresh it is normally rather bland, the service is slow and disorganized and be prepared to pay a whopping $2 for a mediocre cup of coffee. I think they are overpriced and the service I have received seemed to feel inconvenienced by our presence. There is a place down the road from them that offers a much better experience, better prices, service and truly fresh home made food with a FREE drink of what ever you want with your meal. Steve's seem too impressed with them selves for the experience I, and other people I know, have had there. read more

I came here on a Monday afternoon before visiting the State Capitol. My boyfriend ordered a two egg breakfast while I ordered the biscuits and gravy with eggs and bacon. The biscuits and gravy were delicious!! the bacon was crispy and tasty as well. I wasn't blown away by the eggs or hash browns, but neither hold much inherit appeal in the first place, so it wasn't like they did anything wrong. I would definitely come back here. read more

The food is ok from previous visits. My most resent experience I tried to call in my order. I was told to call back in 10 minuets because they were to busy to take my order. I waited the 10 and called back and was told the same thing. I asked to talk to a manager. She told me she was the one who told the staff to say that. She said because the restaurant is full they are going to get those tickets cleared then take Togo orders. That way I would not have to wait so long for my order. I asked that she take my order so I could get my order faster because taking orders of people sitting in the restaurant before mine won't get me mine faster. She said no and she appreciates my input on how to get my order faster but she knows how to manage her restaurant and this is how they are going to do it. So you are not "valued" as a customer unless you are physically there. One of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. This was their Custer location. ***Update** The manager called me after seeing my review to let me know that she miss understood when I called back that I wanted to place my order. She just thought I wanted to complain. She explained to me again why they tell people to call back to order. I asked her I walked in at that point would she have told me I had to wait 10 minuets to order. She said no because I was right there. Only proving if you walk in you will take priority. We were in town and stopped for breakfast with a group of 11. This placed was packed, but our wait time was less than 10 minutes. Our orders were taken and made very quick. The staff was friendly and the food was amazing! The bacon slices were thick cuts, the pancakes were huge, and the ham scramble was delicious. Everyone was happy with their food!
