Ordered New York Strip, got a grissly piece of charred fat with some type of meat. Sides are always excellent, but isn't this a steak house? Improper preparation. Over cooked. Ordered one medium and one medium rare. Both had zero pink and were charred. Bottom line...gave 70 minutes of my life and $61 (after tip) for disappointment. This place has come a long way. When family would come to visit we would drive them to Texas Roadhouse in Mansfield if we wanted Steak. However, since the reopening in the new location we now are proud to have family experience a delicious meal from our local community. Keep up the good work. We need more local places to be proud of. We recently had a trip to Dakotas. I had never been there before but those I dined with had. First off, I will say the waitress we had was wonderful. She was pleasant, helpful, and on top of everything... but that's kinda where the good stopped. -- We all ordered soup as an appetizer. Two french onion soups and a clam chowder. The french onion came out cold and the clam chowder was basically potato soup. I counted exactly 2 pieces of clam in it. -- My husband ordered the caprese salad... the traditional salad apparently in this restaurant has iceberg lettuce? The cheese tasted like it was about 3 months old. AND I LOVE CHEESE. -- I ordered the lobster quesadilla for dinner.I LOVE lobster and quesdillas... and I can honestly say this is the worst thing I may have eaten in my 28 years of life. The lobster literally looked like someone had previously chewed it and spit it back onto the tortilla... -- My mother in laws calamari she said and I quote "tasted like a fish stick." I don't know if we just came on a really bad night or if it's always like this. We came in and were seated pretty quickly. Got our pop and tasted like nothing but syrup. Found out that their CO2 tank was out of carbonation and they were trying to use 2 liters. Then we were given the wrong appetizer and waited another 10 minutes for the correct one to be brought out. Our meals came about 35 minutes later and we realized our server never asked my husband how he wanted his filet prepared (he prefers medium) but this was medium rare. He also was given butter for his lobster that was never warmed or was sitting for awhile before they brought it out to him. His rice side was dried out and reheated and had no flavor. As for me? My salmon was way over cooked and had the white stuff all over. It had some sort of maple glaze on top I didn't really care for. The baked potato wasn't cooked all the way and I couldn't eat anymore and the asparagus was smothered in butter which made the plate presentation just awful. Needless to say, our experience was less than stellar and we were only comped $15 for our bad experience. I didn't expect to be comped for my whole meal or anything but when you come to a place and have a culmination of all of those things happen, it doesn't seem like $15 was enough to get me to try again or make up for the service. This is actually good restaurant except for the fact there isn't enough servers that can serve liquor drinks because most of the servers are under age to serve them. I was eating at bar when another customer sat near me. Unfortunately, I had to ask help from my waiter Austin to help with this customer, who wasn't being acknowledged, passed by other wait staff or coworkers didn't see him during a shift change after 15 minutes or so. I felt bad when he ordered a second drink and took longer to get drink. This location could be a great place if there wasn't a lack of communication between the workers on floor and between cook staff & floor staff. It appears tonight Austin, who was very attentive to my needs, the manager and one of the waitresses seemed to overworking themselves while others who were attending to napkin/utensils wrapping duties which is part of duties, when they should at least pay attention to just acknowledge the customers, since these workers are visually on floor. Especially, I have to identify I needed a fork for my dessert, I pointed out that a customer still waiting for his ordered second drink for now almost 45 minutes later. I kept hearing random mistakes, coworkers' small talk conversations, and plenty of apologies. Please pay attention to task at hand. I have had 22 years of customer service and I'm just disappointed. I rather talked about the good food here but this overall situation stood out more than it seemed. Now I heard more coworkers are working double shifts/overtime. I ordered the park Avenue martini. (Vodka or gin with Italian vermouth and a colossal stuffed olive) and when the waitress sat it on the table I couldn't believe what I saw #1 the glass was super dirty #2 it was half empty #3 there were no olives! So the manager was making her rounds and she stopped by our table to ask how everything was and I said "this is the saddest martini I've ever ordered" and she says to me "well we have big martini glasses here" (I call bs) and then she says she made it! I couldn't believe a manager would be okay serving people crap drinks out of dirty glasses. So when I mentioned that it didn't have the olives she says "she was busy and forgot them" and she would give me extra so about two minutes later she comes back with four olives on plastics swords and a few Hershey kisses on a plate I say "thank you" and she walks away. I look at the olives and notice that they are dry and have light blue/gray spots all over them, so I pick one up to look closer and then I smelled it... IT WAS MOLD!! the manager of this restaurant served me olives covered in mold. I was absolutely disgusted I immediately lost my appetite and my blood started to boil. On Saturday evening my wife and I decided to try Steve's Dakota Grill for the very first time for dinner. Previously we had seen/heard about their lunch specials but with our work schedules could never make it happen, so we thought dinner would be a good idea. My initial reaction to the place was not a good one at all. The staff appeared to be really disorganized and in a daze and our waitress was extremely pushy and was more interested in trying to convince us to let her "friend at the bar" make us an alcoholic drink at the bar than in us ordering food. She refused to give us time to look over the menu, that is of course, until we asked for it. I thought the prices were very high and then scoured the menu to find something that I not only wanted to afford but that I also wanted to eat. I went with Steve's Own Chicken Marsala, which came automatically with asparagus, then I was still asked to select the type of salad I wanted, plus 1 side, not to mention we were also given rolls. The salad was advertised as being "generous" but I did not find that to be the case at all. While very good, the portion was very small and it left me little hope for improvement. When my dinner arrived; I quite honestly could not believe my eyes. I had a large serving of mixed vegetables which were delicious and not just 1, but 2 perfectly cooked chicken breasts topped with a delightfully delicious Marsala Mushroom Wine sauce. The chicken breasts were both large, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. The chicken was so tender and moist that I could easily cut through it with my fork and there was no fat to be found as the breast meat had been well trimmed. I was quite full just with the salad, rolls, mixed vegetables and chicken that I did not try the asparagus and thus have no information to provide other than to say it is not one of my favorite vegetables. Over all the service and attitude of the wait staff was pretty lousy and she kept trying to "up-sell" us on everything, but the food was really good. Even Amanda's ribs appeared to be perfectly done as the meat fell off the bone clean with a delicious sauce. In the end we escaped for just under $30. I actually would go back for the same meal again. I've heard rumors that their health inspections leave something to be desired but the way I see it, is they are open and in business and they are always busy each and every time we drive by and what I don't know, won't hurt me. :-) My final analysis is that the service and ambiance were awful and put a real damper on our evening, but the food made the save. There is no "in between" star for this but my rating would be between "Meh. I've experienced better" and "A-Ok." read more

This was the worst dining experience I have had in a long time. After reviewing the menu I decided to try to unlimited soup and salad. First problem was the waiter never even asked what salad dressing I wanted, just assumed I wanted ranch. After eating some of the salad I ran into some rotten pieces of lettuce. I ordered the French onion soup, it finally came out almost 20 minutes later. The soup was barely warm and had a ton of cheese on top. I didn't even ask for a different soup because I didn't want to wait around another 20 minutes. This was my first and last trip to this restaurant. Sad because this place always smells amazing from the outside. My tip is, don't order the unlimited soup and salad if you decide to try them out. First I would like to say the service was outstanding, our waitress Coral was very friendly I told her this was our first time here and she offered suggestions from the menu. I had the prime rib, (ordered med) salad and baked potato, she brought warm rolls with a unique maple butter, the salad was fresh and tasty with a 1/2 a hardboiled egg, cucumber, tomato and croutons on it, the wait time for our food was just a little slow but not bad, the prime rib had good taste but looked like it had been cooked 2 days earlier or had sat under a heat lamp, the au jus tasted homemade, and the baked potato was done perfect. My wife said her steak (ordered med) was a bit dry and it looked kind of burnt on the outside, she said it had good flavor and agreed that the salad and potato were very good. Our waitress Coral offered desert and told us the restaurant was known for its carrot cake, it was a very large serving that I took to go and later found to be moist with good flavor. Over all the food was good and I would say if you're traveling along route 23 and your passing thru Marion and its dinner time I would give it a try. read more

My parents and I had lunch at the Marion restaurant 6/21/19. Service was excellent, food...not so much. My dad ordered the sirloin and fried shrimp combo. Shrimp terrific, salad great, steak (ordered medium rare) was cold and very tough. My mother and I ordered crab stuffed mushrooms and the crab stuffed shrimp entree to split. Neither tasted anything like crab. I suspect a crab flavored fish paste was used as the stuffing - covered with melted cheese in an attempt to mask that fact. Bland. Disappointing. Overpriced considering. We don't live in Marion, but will be there a few more times this summer for medical appointments. I hope to go to the Dakota Grill again - it is a comfortable place - and I will try a burger or wrap next time. My reason for writing this review is in hopes the owner might see it and realize that "cheaping out" on things like crab, and quality sirloin is obvious to those who like crab and sirloin.
