It's been over 20 years since I've been to Steve's. My family stopped in on a Saturday around 4pm. Service was a bit slow, but she was very nice. There was a large dining room, that seemed clean and bright. I ordered the Polish combo which had a cabbage roll, 3 pierogies, and kielbasa & kraut. The pierogies were the best part of the combo, the cabbage roll was decent and the kielbasa was just ok. We also ordered potato pancakes for the table, that was the best thing we had, and I would order that again. My sister ordered a hot beef sandwich, she liked it. My nephews ordered a burger and wings dings, they seemed to enjoy those. We also ordered food to go. I ordered a quart of dill pickle soup, it was very good. Went for dinner on a Monday night, and it was packed which is always a good sign. Very homey feel with plenty of comfort food. The chicken and dumpling soup was delicious. I also had the special, beef stew. The meat was very tender. Can't wait to try more. read more

I had the opportunity to visit Steve's family dining for the first time today Restaurant makes a nice presentation, very comfy. I ordered the fish and chips dinner. I received my coleslaw quickly, but then it took about 25 minutes to get my plate to me. I was already on my way out the door when they served me finally. The restaurant was empty with maybe eight diners! over 25 minutes to get my order to me. The restaurant was relatively empty with only about eight diners counting me so I can't say they were busy. All I can say is the management and service personnel maybe need a refresher course on customer service. Try them as your own risk. read more

I love Steve's. Great Polish and American food and it is a terrific value. Gulnaz (sp?) was my server and she is a rockstar. I ordered my toast dry. She entered my order correctly. The kitchen screwed up ... and Gulnaz noticed the mistake. She delivered my omelette still piping hot and promised the toast would arrive shortly - and it did. Too often servers do not sufficiently QA the order and disappoint, but not Gulnaz. read more

Steve's serves a wide variety of meals from breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The prices are very reasonable and the find reminds me of grandmas cooking. The restaurant is pretty spacious and did a great job accommodating our group of 8. My husband said the hot roast beef sandwich was the best he's ever had. We will be back. read more

I'm a Polish American that makes Polish food from scratch and folks, this ain't it! The dill pickle soup was actually decent but that's where it ends. The golabki was fork tender but the filling was bland and the red sauce was extremely thin like broth. I asked for boiled pierogi and received all fried. The pierogi were greasy and flavorless. The kielbasa was mid and the sauerkraut was horrible. No flavor just metal canned taste and sour. Such a shame that people think this is what Polish food should taste like! Never again. read more

A friend suggested we get a carry out order from Steve's and meet at the convalescent home his brother is in. The roast beef ordered for his brother was not fork tender pot roast style beef as indicated by the order taker. Three planks of chewy beef were left uneaten by his brother- too tough for his teeth. I gave him some of my two large extremely salty stuffed cabbage. Other than being larger than I prefer, the saltiness, and high rice content in the stuffing, the tomato sauce, flavor and texture were ok. Highly salted but flavorless mashed potatoes and commissary brown yellow canned corn completed my $12.49 meal. Unlikely I will return. read more

I came here with some friends for lunch after church. For my meal, I ordered the Polish combo, with came with a choice of stuffed cabbage or city chicken; kielbasa; pierogies; and sauerkraut. I don't like sauerkraut, so I was thankful that I could get the mashed potatoes instead. They were smooth, creamy, and flavorful. The pierogies were crispy, tasting fresh and homemade. Again, since I don't like kraut, I was able to stick with just potato and cheese pierogies. The kielbasa had a good smoky flavor and wasn't too salty. The one bad part of my meal was the city chicken. It was dry and pink (but definitely fully cooked) chicken that looks like the stuff in Campbell's chicken noodle soup, lumped together on a skewer. The gravy made it better, but I regret not trying the stuffed cabbage instead. I tried my friend's fries. They were very crispy on the outside (they appeared to be dipped in batter before frying) and soft on the inside. Our waitress was friendly and helpful - she brought us extra napkins and refilled our water. She asked how everything was and if we needed anything else. I know restaurants have a unique and unprecedented challenge operating during COVID, but this restaurant ran things smoothly. I'd definitely like to come back in the future! read more

I really enjoy coming to Steve's Family Dining (and takeout, too!). In fact, my family along with many relatives have been enjoying the food here for many years. The menu has a variety of things to choose from that should satisfy everyone's preferences. We have always enjoyed Polish food with my faves being the stuffed cabbage and the Polish combo dinner. One thing I appreciate is the consistency of the food quality. It's always so yummy, consistently. The service is always solid. The environment is clean, bright, and welcoming (even the outside landscaping is bright and cheery). I like that you get a bread basket with your dinner. That seems to be less common these days but Steve's has kept that as part of every dinner. The soups are delicious as well. I really like the dumpling soup but there are normally several others to choose from. As far as portions go, they are generous which makes Steve's a great value for what. you pay. This is a gem in Livonia, easily accessed from I-96 North on Middlebelt. I drive over from 20+ minutes away when I have my craving for stuffed cabbage and enjoy takeouts when I'm in the area on the way home. read more

Service was quick and the food was served piping hot. The dill pickle soup had the right flavor and consistency. It was a little potato heavy for my taste, but the shreds of chicken in the broth were very nice. The Polish plate had great pierogi. Truly enjoyable. The stuffed cabbage was a little soft and bland, but ok. The sauerkraut was great. Soft, flavorful and not too bland. The sausage was ok, but nothing to write home about. I used to really like this restaurant and would order here weekly. I took a break and tried to order last week and was told at 7pm on a weekend "WE'RE CLOSED" when trying to call I said 'I'm sorry? With the same response and no idea why they were closed? Attempted again this week and they seem to always change their fries, so never know what to expect. Which is a big deal to my kids. I also got a quart of chicken soup which tasted sour. Don't think I'll be coming back sadly. read more

I have been very skeptical to go there for years. Last night I went with my wife and grandson(22 months old), Our server, Natalia was AMAZING. She ordered food for my grandson and it came out in about 7 minutes. She was very attentive to us the whole time. City chicken was great. The gyro was great and my grandson loved his chicken tenders and ice cream. Oh, can't forget that the dill pickle soup was delicious. I had the Polish Platter. The dill pickle soup was delicious and mild. The city chicken was OK, but a little dry. It was most moist where the breading met the gravy. The fillings in the pierogi were excellent. The dough may not be to everyone's taste, as it was thick and crispy- (possibly deep-) fried. The kapusta was mild and tasty, as were the mashed potatoes. The kielbasa was the problem. A big problem. A huge problem. A deal-breaker problem. Smoked, it had the texture and over-processed flavor of a corporate knockwurst. Perhaps it was an Eckrich or some similar sort of product. It was not good. Terrible. Yuk. Please get some real kielbasa from one of the Detroit area's myriad Polish meat markets. Went there yesterday for a carryout. I ordered the ravioli dinner and imagine my surprise when I got home to find pierogis with a sauce thrown on them! The sauce was all over the bag on the inside because they didn't even close the container! No salad with the dinner....just a slice of RYE bread! Had I wanted polish food I would have ordered it myself. Will not ever come here again...waste of money...and to think I left a tip! read more

However, a pet peeve of mine is when a server does not ask if you would like dessert. This happened on Friday. Nicole brought our check, never asking if we wanted dessert. Very disappointing. Food was great! Server was very friendly and great with our 1 year old son. Got sat right away an hour before closing and service was fast and recognized when we needed a filled cup and even noticed we needed more napkins. However, for a family restaurant, there was no changing table in either of the restrooms so I had to change him on the bathroom floor (I have a portable changing pad, thankfully.) just be aware.
