I grew up in Livonia and this is THE best coney island in western Wayne County. I have been going here since 1983 when Louie owned and ran the place and it was called Samson's Coney Island. I no longer live in Michigan but I always have to stop here when I'm in town visiting. It has always been the best place around and it is as much a Livonia tradition as Bates, Han-D-Dip or Daly's. Coney islands are a dime a dozen in metro Detroit, so it's often hard to distinguish one from another as they serve almost identical food. But it's also that kind of familiarity that makes going to one feel relaxing and gives reassurance you will easily find something enjoyable. This is a tiny place nestled between many other larger businesses, but the restaurant is always packed with happy and loyal customers. I don't know what it is about it, but the food and atmosphere just hit differently. The loose burger was just your standard ground beef and onions nestled in a hot dog bun, but I was impressed with their chicken pot pie soup. I also think their lamb gyro was one of the more satisfying ones I've had in awhile, but they did a poor job wrapping it and put WAAAAY too much tzatziki sauce. I want to state: the country fried steak and eggs is my FAVORITE breakfast meal, so I've been on the search for this specific dish ever since I moved into the area! I've got to say that this is the best country fried steak I've had in all of Livonia! The steak was easy to cut into, super flavorful, sauce was delicious, and eggs cooked to perfection. Even the hash browns were crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside. I was literally so impressed by this place and happy I gave it a shot. Great start to my day. Plus, prices are super reasonable and staff was very friendly and attentive. I've been following this restaurant on Twitter for awhile now. I guess I'm doomed to Follow The Leda's. It's just a typical Detroit area quick American diner with pretty tasty Souvlaki over salad, and it didn't really blow me the way I wanted it to because of the lack of complexity of the salad - tasted like a Wendy's salad lol - but it was definitely decent. As for their Coney, it's not bad but tastes a little old, and would have compared unfavourably to my favorite versions in the area. Still not a bad little diner, cheap, and good for locals. I did carryout, the service was good and the wait time was decent considering I didn't call the order in. I ordered a coney dog, chili fries and grilled chicken pita my total was around $22.00. The coney dog tasted like a regular coney nothing above average. The chili fries had a slight after taste because the chili had a peculiar taste that I can't quite describe. The grilled chicken pita was VERY disappointing the pita had plenty tomatoes and lettuce but lacked GRILLED CHICKEN (it was diced and the portion was small) and it was DRY for $8 I would expect a sandwich big enough to feel satisfied. If I happen to patronize this establishment again I DEFINITELY wouldn't order the grilled chicken pita. read more

My wife and I just moved to the area and have been looking for a breakfast spot. I was a little apprehensive trying this restaurant, as it is in a strip mall, but I am glad I did. The service was great. We sat at the counter (no other spots available), and as soon as we sat down the waitress got our drink order. Two minutes after that, she came back with drink and asked if we were ready to order. Of course since this was our first time, we weren't ready. The food was good. I got the typical breakfast - two eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast. My wife got a spinach and feta omelette. We both enjoyed our meals, and the only compliant we had was our toast was little burnt. The atmosphere was great, too. As I mentioned above, we sat at the counter, which I love to do at breakfast restaurant to watch the chaos. Also, you could tell this was a neighborhood spot, because the waitress knew all of the patrons order, except for ours, at the counter. Finally, this place got very busy just after we sat down (10:30am - Sunday), which the line was out the door. I definitely plan to go back for breakfast. read more

Great Coney Island, it looks like an old diner on the inside. Very friendly customer service. Good food and very reasonable prices. I ordered a broccoli and spinach omelette and some sausage and the one thing I hate about Coney islands is the greasy food. Everything seems to be cooked in a pile of grease. No matter what you order it's always with a side of grease. This place is very different.
