I have to give this place two stars for the following reasons: Place is constantly short of help so you have to wait for what seems like forever. Staff are not friendly nor courteous! Purchased two different vacuums from them a top of the line stand up Regal stainless steel anniversary edition; and a Miele canister. First vacuum was about $400 the second was close to $1100.00. Both require bags which I was charged for extra! Was horrified when I went on line and found that I could purchase 100 bags for what I was charged for 20. Never again ! The Regal the belt keeps coming off or they snap and break have had difficulty replacing the belt was charged $5.00 when vacuum was under warranty for belt they wanted $25.00 as the man gladly boasted to put it on it would only take a minute ! I asked if he could show me how he replied no again said he replaces hundreds of these belts and I should be able to do it myself in under five minutes if I needed help there were UTube videos. Otherwise he could replace the belt for $25.00 labor ! That's $1500.00 an hour !! No thank you won't be back again ! My Miele needed service was told it would be close to $185 or more plus parts and labor to fix a suction problem. Was told I would need a new power head and hose over the phone said Ok I'd be in later called CJ Miller's in Harleysville and described problem with the Miele and the Regal brought both to them and had both repaired for $6.50! Just really avoid being ripped off by these people !!! read more

Great service, but expensive. My family and I have been using Steve's for 30 years. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I recommend them for vacuum repairs, but make sure that the repair is worthwhile, meaning that with vacuums so cheap these days sometimes you're better off just buying a new one. If you do decide to get your vacuum repaired, Steve's has always provided good and efficient service. Things have always been repaired to my satisfaction. When it comes to purchasing a vacuum, Steve's has a lot of higher end stuff. They offer you a pretty good opportunity to try things out as well as good warranties. When it comes to purchasing vacuum parts and accessories, I find that you usually do better online, at least when it comes to price. But if you're looking for something right away, or trying to find something that is hard to find Steve's will always have it or get it for you. It's nice to have this kind of old school, family-owned shop still in business. Steve's maybe on the pricy side, but you do get what you pay for. read more

They suck! I have a GV-X12 Vacuum cleaner which I bought from Amazon. I went to Steve's Vacuums to purchase bags. They were doing curb side service at this time. I showed them the vacuum. The gentlemen brought these OBRECK Vacuum bags which were way to big and I showed him. He said they work. Well the bags were a nigh mare because too big for the vacuum. The bag wasted because vacuum would stop working because too big. Anyway, took, the bags back and Ugly Lady (Ugly in sprit) said they are the only bags we have. I told her they should just say they don't have the correct bags for the vacuum. I ended up going to Walmart and found the correct bag for $7.95. Again, Steve's Vacuum cost me $29.00 and the bags are way too big for the vacuum and don't work. Steve's sucks. They just sell you anything and when you return back to the store with the wrong bags, they don't want to give you you r money back. The staff is SO MEAN! THEY SUCK! Took two vintage Pfaff machines in [didn't think they could be fixed]. Tom [repair guy] was VERY honest and kind. donated machines, extra parts, books etc to help others if possible. While there, the owner, Steve sold me the SAME machine Tom recommended for what I do professionally. A QUALITY Bernina, and they did NOT try and over sell me. He listened to my needs, asked pertinent questions and I an THRILLED! He also discounted the machine a bit and truly treated me as a valued customer and respected my skills. When I called about needing other accessories, he sold them tome at a 25% discount! I will ALWAYS remember the complete honesty, integrity and respect with which I was treated. read more

I can't give Steve's Sewing any kind of stars. I've been in the store twice in the past 3 years. The first time I was there I was wandering around the store looking at their fabric selections and their sewing machines. At no time during that 1/2 hour visit did anyone approach me and ask if I needed help with anything. There were no more than 2 other customers in the store. My second visit to the store was to bring my sewing machine in for repairs. I understood that because I purchased the sewing machine from a shop online during the pandemic that it wouldn't be covered by the manufacturer's warranty. That didn't matter to me. I just wanted my machine fixed. The first thing I was told was that my problem was caused by "user error" implying that I didn't know what I was doing and that I was the one who caused my machine to malfunction. I have been sewing for over 50 years. This was not the case. I explained that my bobbin case had twisted while I was sewing and that I had also heard a sound coming from the bottom of the machine which sounded like a spring popping. The lady who was "helping" me at the desk was extremely rude, I believe her name was Barbara. She continued telling me that I probably did something to the machine which was causing the problems and that the machine wasn't purchased from their store and was therefore not under warranty. I explained that I understood that and I took the machine to them because they were a factory authorized repair store for my brand of sewing machine. I told her that I just wanted the machine fixed and that I knew I would have to pay for the service. She then realized that the machine was also an embroidery machine and jumped down my throat for not bringing a hoop with me. I reluctantly left my machine with them for repair and received a call about a week later saying that it had been fixed, that the cost was $140 and to come pick it up. Ironically when I picked up my machine I heard the very rude woman tell a customer who was bringing a vacuum in for repair that the reason it didn't work is because she probably wasn't paying attention and ran over the cord. I brought my machine home and it worked for about a week before the same exact thing happened. Needless to say, I didn't want any more contact with these people because of their rudeness. I drove 50 miles to take my machine to another authorized service store. I was treated very nicely by people who knew what they were talking about and actually spoke to a technician when I dropped it off. The service person called me and told me that they had 3 people working on the machine because they couldn't figure out what the technician at Steve's did to it. They opened my machine up and found 2 loose springs just laying underneath the machine and one spring attached where it shouldn't be. And that was the wrong spring, also. They did several repairs to the machine, including replacing the bobbin case (which Steve's didn't do). They contacted the manufacturer regarding the correct spring, which they replaced where it is supposed to be and worked to solve the problems the machine had. Long story short, the second repair cost an additional $311 to fix the damage done by Steve's to my $2500 machine . I am very disappointed in Steve's and do not recommend anyone take their machines or their vacuums to them for service. read more

I own a Bernina Activa 210 and Steve's Sewing and Vacuum Center is the only local retailer that I can count on to reliably 1) staff that are knowledgeable about and familiar with Bernina machines and 2) actually have a well-stocked inventory of parts/accessories for Bernina machines. Today, I called ahead to see if they might have a walking/quilting foot for my machine. They kindly put it aside for me and I was able to purchase the part this afternoon. I was surprised that it even qualified for the 20% discount they have been offering as a special to customers since they have just opened in a brand new space. That generosity shaved about $30 off of my rather expensive part! The new store is lovely! Plenty of room for browsing and test-driving their various sewing machine models. They still have plenty of fabric, thread, and other notions to keep any seamstress well-stocked. The customer service is always superb and I find the staff to be very friendly. Two years after its purchase, my Bernina is still in tip top condition and I am happy to know that I can rely on Steve's to see that it lasts me well into the future. read more

This store is a godsend. My 10+ year old vacuum stopped working on a Friday at 5 PM. Faced with the option of dirty carpets for days on end, or finding a way to revive it...I took off the cover of the vacuum for the first time, and noticed something that didn't look right. I removed that part, and took it to this store in hopes that they would tell me what went wrong. I should also mention that it's really not in my budget right now to buy a new vacuum. A very friendly clerk named Dave told me that my broken part was a "beater bar" and that he might have an exact replacement in stock. Before I knew it, Dave produced a $29 replacement! After ringing me up, another clerk named Gus gave me some additional info about the beater bar, which helped me better understand what went wrong. I headed home with my new part, and my carpets were cleaner than ever an hour later. In short, Dave and Gus provided fantastic service, and my veteran vacuum works like it did a decade ago. I have been interested in taking sewing classes for a couple of years, but with two small kids, it was a project that got stuck on the back burner. Cut to a month ago, I was wandering around Joann's, looking at sewing machines. I didn't want to just buy any old sewing machine, not really knowing what to look for. I asked the woman at the store if they offered classes. She told me in a hush hush voice, that Steves's offered classes and to go there, and I'm so glad I did. The woman, who became my instructor was very knowledgeable and friendly. Never once did she try to convince me that I needed more of a machine, instead telling me that no matter what I bought from them, that I couldn't really go wrong and as a beginner, if I decided to upgrade in the first year, they'd give me full credit towards the purchase of another model. Not to mention, that any problem you encounter in the first year is free, including user error. They have great reputable brands, Bernina, Baby Lock, and Janome. I settled on the Bernina 230, which I got a GREAT deal on, as they're moving, so the price was discounted. I love it. I also took a beginners class and learned a lot. I can see how some of the people that work there could be less helpful, but the person who taught our class never made us feel dumb. It was so much fun and I was able to make some new friends *insert mega cheesiness here* Their fabric prices are slightly higher, but most of their stuff is average priced. I think people are used to having endless amounts of 40% off coupons that Joanns has to offer. And there's nothing wrong with saving money, but I wouldn't say the markup at Steve's is astronomical. In fact, I'd say the price of their machines is slightly better than comparable. But remember, you get what you pay for. Go and buy a crappy modern day singer, and try to compare it to one of the brands that Steve's carries. Come back and tell me you're happy with the singer. I would say the one star reviewer had a bad experience, but don't let that stop you from going. I won't go anywhere else. read more

Staff was very approachable and helpful. My goal was to see if my 40 year old sewing machine could get a desperately needed tune-up. Was told there were at least 100 machines ahead of mine but I decided to leave it and hope for the best. Got a call in about 3 weeks to let me know what the technician found. He discussed options with me and when I asked if it was time to buy a new machine, he said that with the recommended maintenance my old one would be as good as new. So a fix of around $150 gave me a well working machine and saved me the hundreds of dollars I would have had to spend on a new one. Great experience and I highly recommend them, read more

Beware taking your Dyson to them... I have never written a review on here before and do not enjoy giving a low rating on a local business I have used several times, but I hope by writing this, I prevent others from going through what I went through. I took my Dyson to Steve's for service as the hose was not working at all. It sounded like something was stuck in there, which I told them. I was told they would look at it within a couple days because they were caught up on work. A week later I received a call that the vacuum needed a new brush housing assembly and service and it would come to $165+tax. I was told the part needed to be ordered and it would take 7 to 10 business days. I needed my vacuum since it had already been there a week. When I picked it up, they told me they would order the part and call me when it came in so I could bring the vacuum back. Fast forward almost 10 business days, I decided to go to the Dyson Service Center in KOP since I really needed a working vacuum after all this time. I was there all of 2 minutes for them to discover that there was a plastic cap stuck in the hose. After removing it, the vacuum was fine. No new brush housing assembly needed. I also found out that my vacuum has a 5 year warranty (even though I didn't buy it from Dyson directly) and if I did in fact need the part Steve's said I needed, it would have been covered by the warranty. Steve's is no longer a certified Dyson dealer. They should not be fixing Dyson vacuums (cleaning is fine, I guess) and they cannot get certified Dyson parts since they are no longer a certified Dyson dealer. I guess this is why I never received a call that the part is in, since I'm guessing they can't get it. Or worse, I would get a part that isn't certified. Needless to say, I will no longer be taking my Dyson to Steve's. I am not knocking their service for vacuums they are certified to work on, but before you take your Dyson there, you may want to go to the Dyson Service Center first and save yourself time and money. read more

I took my machine in for cleaning and a new threader. They did replace the threader. However they did not clean my machine. I see threads in the thread path, bobbin winder, bobbin. I took pictures. I have purchases several expensive machines at this shop. All was fine until they moved. I was promised free classes on my new machines and never got them. I contacted then no less than six times, always with a promise to call me back. Almost a year later, I'm still waiting. I have found another sewing machine dealer that is a bit further away but is wonderful. This shop seems to have gone down hill. They are short staffed and because of that, I find them short tempered and less than helpful. read more

About 6 months ago I went into Steve's, and Steve himself worked with me on getting into a new vaccuum. We looked at a couple different models. The more I explained my needs the more it led to the Miele Complete C3. Having gone through box stove vacs in the past, tbis one is in a league of its own. Picks up great, powered is easy to adjust. Bag is easy to change and holds a remarkable amount of debris. Works great on my furniture, and I even got the smaller powerhead for the stairs. Thanks for that tip Steve, works great. The hardwood floor attachment is the best I have ever had. And even the small things like the one touch cord retract works perfect. Well thanks again Steve for this fantastic tool, makes it a joy to vacuum every week. read more

I was in Steve's yesturday for our second Riccar vacuum purchase. Our salesman both times was Dave. We put Dave through the ringer as far as showing us what the vacuums could do and he was up for the task and more! He was very knowledgable and extremely friendly and accommodating. He showed us the ins and outs of both of the vacuums that we purchased as well as some others so that we could make informed decisions as to which ones to buy. He spent at least an hour each time with us. You don't judge a business simply by how they act when everything goes perfectly, but also by how they repopnd to unforecast issues. Because I've had a great purchasing experience AND great service from Steve's, I can recommend the store without any hesitation. We purchased a Miele Capricorn vaccum from Steve's. We dealt with Jim and Justin, who both had a complete understanding of the product. This is an expensive item, and you want to feel like you're getting intelligent and informed advice, not just a sales job. Check that box. You also want to walk away knowing that you paid a fair price, and a little negotiation yielded the discount that asked for, and a couple of accessories. It made use feel great. Check that box. As it turns out, we had opted for a model that includes a circuit board that the salesperson didn't particularly recommend, and sure, enough, it was a little too sophisticated for its' own good: it failed. Steve himself was present for the service visit, and he replaced the entire accessory from the canister to the rotating brush (I don't know what it's called) without any hesitation. Standing by the product? Check that box. And then there is operator error. We let the bags fill up a little too much, and some dirt got into the canister, gummed up some filters, and ended up jamming the piece in which the bag sits, which affected the seal, and the way the canister closes. I figured someone had damaged the unit at home, but no one fessed up. Either way, we couldn't vacuum. So, back to Steve's. Long story short, when there is a problem, Steve wants to know about it, and he badly wants to fix it. Somehow, I ended up leaving with a perfectly air-cleaned vacuum, with new filters, and a newer model bag, at no expense. Saving the customer from himself? Check that box too. Very dissappointed. They are dishonest and overpriced. Purchased my sew ing machine/cabinet here a few years ago. I found the employees knowlegeable...but not friendly. Same for those teaching the intro class. Rather condescending. Recently returned.....had a problem with my machine. Mentioned to repair person that the machine was perfect and then all at once I had a problem..maybe it was the tension...and no adjustments had been made. He said..$149 for the tune up...I asked why...sign said $99.....he said it was more if there was a problem with the tension. I explained once again that I was still able to sew with it. The thread seemed to be tight when I was threading the machine. I asked if they did not find a tension problem would they refund the $50...he said yes. Picked up repaired machine...brought it home....same problem........realized it was a particular spool of thread that was pulling. Did not need the tune up or tension adjusted. If the repair person knew his work (and I suspect he did)...he would have realized immediately there was NO tension problem. Do not like dishonest people...do not want to spend my hard earned money on businesses that take advantage of you. read more

I bought a sewing machine here years ago and have loved it! It was reasonably priced, and I got free classes to teach me all about it. The customer service is excellent. I also love their quilting fabrics. They're a bit more expensive than the local chain stores, but you get what you pay for. The fabric is all first quality. I rent their long arm machine for quilting and it's wonderful to use. If you sew and/or quilt, this is the store for you! read more

I've known Steve for many years from purchasing sewing machines, sergers, and embroidery machines for my sewing hobby. I had no idea of his expertise in kitchen installations! I recently purchased several state of the art Miele appliances from Steve's. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Steve installs these appliances and coordinates everything from start to finish with his expert crew of professionals. My kitchen project involved alot of detail and man hours. The attention to detail that Steve gave to each aspect of these renovations was phenomenal. He took the time to clean any dust and dirt each day before he left. Not once was I left without a working kitchen throughout this entire project.
