Hi I bought a a vehicle from Kovac motors a couple years ago and from what I thought was a well maintained vehicle turned out to be a lemon. I wish there was more transparency on the issues the vehicle has had since after all buying from a dealership is more trustworthy than from a private seller. Here's a list of issues I've encountered after the first 6-months: worn-out struts, outer trim of the vehicle is worn out and barely held together, discovered unloosened and missing bolts in the A-pillar, undisclosed oil leak from the engine, and welded-on catalytic converter which cost me extra to remove and replace. Took my 2007 Audi A4 Quatro to Polo to diagnose a check-engine light issue. I bought this car from Kovacs three years ago, and have had it serviced there ever since. These folks are great, very knowledgeable and charge fair prices. In this case, Polo determined the reason the check-engine was on (one of the knock sensors) and we agreed simply to reset the light to see if it came back on. No charge. This would be no stars if possible. Set up an appointment for an oil change and tire rotation. Adam Kovacs he myself made the appointment and subsequently made sure that nobody I know or I will ever go there. After they had the car for four hours I called and asked if it was ready. The customer service lady could not tell if the car had been serviced or not. I said fine, I needed the car back so I walked to to get my car. After I arrived I noticed that at the very least the tires had not been rotated. The lady then told me that it hadn't been serviced. I have to admit that I was upset. But then it gets good. She can't find my keys. After a few minutes I am grumbling under I breadth and defenitley let out a few expletives, but I wasn't speaking to the customer service lady, I am just visibly frustrated with them losing my keys. Then Adam Kovacs shows up. For a second I thought I was going to get my keys from him, but no. He starts yelling at me that I have made his customer service lady uncomfortable. YELLING at me. I almost called the cops right there. He asked me if I cared that he had sick calls this morning. Do you care that you lost my keys? I come from customer service, from the food world. When people don't show up to work, you as the boss are responsible. Since I know that Adam Kovacs spent the morning at a car auction, I can tell you that he doesn't actually care about his or your business. Do yourself a favor, and spend your money elsewhere. BEWARE BUYERS!! If you're considering buying a car from this place, I encourage you to have another mechanic look at the car before buying! I bought a 2014 Audi in April and it broke down before my 1st payment and has been continuously breaking down since! I haven't even been able to enjoy my new car because every time I get in I see a check engine light on! I traded in my 2009 Ford Flex with them knowing it needed a new catalytic converter as well as other repairs and they had it advertised the next day for sale. That person who bought my car a week later is also having problems since I know they couldn't have fixed it in that time! It wouldn't even pass smog when I turned it in! After the 4th time in the shop I asked for the Inspection Report on the car I bought and it had MY name on it with a date before I ever bought or saw the car! How does my name end up on paperwork before I bought it? They sold me a warranty for $4,800 and have billed my warranty company for repairs that should have been done before selling my car. Then the last time, they picked up my car and returned it dented and scratched and wouldnt take responsiblity for the damage while in their possession. The sardine can parking lot they put my car in for repairs is so small you have to park in the driveway! No wonder it came back damaged! I went to Kovacs because I like to support local and Im nothing but disappointed. Ive NEVER gotten a return call from Adam and I've left several messages. Hes NEVER returned my friends calls on my behalf either. Im not the first person this has happened to, I now know 3 others personally! They are running a shady car mill at the buyers cost. During the repairs the shop manager made every excuse for them and making up excuses lying! Another car mechanic said to me "A man who isnt loyal personally isnt going to be loyal in business"! I had gone to another garage for check up and, $3,000 later they had not yet addressed the problem of a 'minor oil leakage'. They asked $3,800 for the complete repair! I went to Kovacs for their estimate and it was just $1,100 for the same work! Needless to say I told them to do the work and they promptly and completely addressed the problem and, in the end, charged me just $980, well less than their estimate for final repair! Perfect experience from start to finish! Mike took care of everything, coordinated with my insurance adjustor, and even went out of his way to have my vehicle brought back to the Sonoma shop so that I didn't have to figure out how to get a ride down to San Rafael to pick it up. I am am writing an update per the request of the owner, Adam Kovacs. Simply put he makes a great point about my previous review, which is about customer service and not the quality of their work. Their work is great and if you have issues with your German auto give them a shot. But back to the service, from my previous review you can gather I had less than a stellar customer service experience. This caught both the attention of John and Adam. John called and repeatedly apologized for not calling me back. He than said he hadn't received any of my emails, and offered me his personal email. Which I appreciate and found to be a heartfelt gesture. However I am only left to wonder why I can not reach him by his work email? Spam perhaps! Adams email was typical, however it was refreshing to hear from a business owner. However it was over dinner with the fam (the family that yelps together stays together....no?) that I shared my service recovery efforts put forth by Kovacs staff and the elusive power of yelp. When I was faced with the question will you go back? Part of me says yes (the service is great)....... then again part of me foresees that proverbial elephant lingering in the room upon my arrival (next to the swanky Audi R8). Within 2 weeks of buying my 2009 Nissan 370Z an electric gate shut on me while I was pulling through. Soul crushing? Affirmative. Google search on the cost to repair a front fender? Equally soul crushing. I went around to a few shops in the area who told me that they would need to replace the entire fender because the dent was "right on the crease." Made sense to me. They also told me that they would have to repaint the hood and door in order to get the paint to match. Also, $1,200... Curious. I wanted to call bullshit, but then I remembered I know exactly jack about bodywork, so I shut my mouth. Then I got a recommendation from a friend to go see Tom at Kovacs Motors. I drove the car up to the shop and he took a look at it. He took one look at it and said, "No, we don't need to replace that fender...and we can do it at a much better price." Like a lot of the customer base at Kovacs I started coming her when my warranty came up at Sonnen. Matt at Sonnen was incredible but he is just not capable of fixing the mess that is the Sonnen dealership. My first problem was a blown headlight. The guys at Kovacs fixed it in a half hour or so. When I asked how much, "no charge." What? That was $80 worth of labor at Sonnen even if the bulb was only 5 bucks. Their response "it's not your fault we didn't know how to do that quicker. Don't worry about it." Needless to say I have been going back since. They are always super friendly, always remember me, and generally can squeeze me in around my lunch break. It's also right across the street from my old Middle School so I can sit outside and reminisce when waiting for my car. Ahh, Davidson. I'm a stereotypical girl when it comes to cars! I hate jump starting my car - it freaks me out. The only thing I really know how to do is pump gas, check my tire pressure, and check my oil. It's sad but true. So when I acquired my aunt's 2002 beetle I was at the will of her old mechanic. Thankfully Kovacs is great. I don't feel manipulated into extra work, they don't over charge me, and they make me feel like I'm actually doing the right thing with my car. Bought a 2008 Mini Cooper S that looked awesome on the outside but the motor is a disaster and they knew it. I figured out after we bought it that it needed the complete coolant system water pump,turbo coolant pump, thermostat,sensors, coolant fan, and then the turbo was almost failed so have to replace that. The head gasket has almost failed because of the coolant system. The salesman opened the hood to connect the battery on the test drive. "He said he was charging the battery" I bought that ok. No the fan was out and he didn't want me to hear it try to engage when it got hot. Very crooked place. Stay far far away they will lie through their teeth. I don't know who they paid to get these ratings. They will sell you a lemon and a warranty and want you to bring it back to their shop to fix it. They win twice. Don't lose with these guys. Now I'm stuck with a lemon and I was already in a tight spot when I needed the f'n car. Now I'm in a worse spot. read more

Adam Kovac is a complete liar! I told him that the sunroof leaks prior to trading my car in to him, in fact, I told him if he wants to change his offer to me I would understand. His response to me was, "Well, most people wouldn't disclose that before trading". AND the accident was prior to me purchasing my car. I didn't even know it had been in an accident because the Toyota dealership did not disclose this to me. When Kovac's sales guy pulled that up on the Carfax I was upset to hear that and he told me it's no big deal. Total LIAR! The loan company with my title loan told me that Kovac's payoff check never showed up and that she felt over the phone when initially talking to Adam Kovac that he sounded "fishy and couldn't be trusted" The loan place thought something did not sound right with the deal. Again, Kovac's is the devil and I wouldn't doubt it if his "good star" reviews are friends of theirs! Note: There was a very lengthy negative -0 star posted review prior to this update that luckily for Adam was deleted by mistake because I never use Yelp so I didn't know it was going to delete my original post when I posted this reply to his false response. I'm not going to waste my time to rewrite it. In a nutshell, don't trust Kovac's. Adam Kovac tried to take advantage of a single mom with a toddler that was in a bad situation. It's a long story I am not going to write again. Trust me, don't trust Kovac's. Pretty cars that don't work. Adam traded me a car that was headed for a huge repair bill which of course would mean broken down somewhere or worse, in a accident because the car was in bad shape. I traded him my perfect beautiful 2015 Toyota that was in EXCELLENT mechanical and body shape with only 43K miles. Adam Kovac is a car salesman that lives up to the stereotype car salesmen are given. Adam came through for me with flying colors on a really pesky problem I recently had with my 1999 VW Passat. Here's what happened: I had a clunking noise that seemed to be coming from the front end (suspension) of the car. Upon inspection, Adam discovered two big cracks in my transmission mounts and repaired them. He also discovered a frayed brake hose to the front wheel, which I was very grateful he found.He even sent me a photo to show me how bad it was! But the clunking persisted. On my second visit, Adam found that the right front strut (shock absorber) was leaking badly, as well as 2 others, and also found that the lower control arm had a rusted ball joint. He advised me that while we were in there it would be good "insurance" and cheaper to replace the control arm now while replacing the struts. I agreed, and he did the work. But still the clunking persisted. On my third visit, Adam finally located the problem. The right motor mount had completely broken off from the frame of the car! He did the repair in one hour and sent me on my way with NO CLUNK! Here's the bottom line: With 200K miles, my Passat was about worn out. He found things wrong with the car that might have been catastrophic if I drove it any further! Now my car is safe to drive and handles like a dream. It took 3 tries to fix, but ALL the repairs were necessary. The team at Kovacs is A1 in my book. Every time I go there, I can rest assured I'm in the best possible hands for all my repair needs.
