I was a little disappointed at how my waffles tasted. I finally had the chance to get then yesterday and the lady told me if I got 6 then I'd get a discount. Seeing that I needed breakfast for this week, I thought why not? 6 waffles for $16, for the waffles that are priced a $3 each. If you buy ones over $3, like my yuzu (Japanese citrus) then you'd get an additional charge of the difference. This morning, I heated my yuzu waffle up like she advised. 1) the yuzu flavour was too light and I could barely taste it. 2) the texture of the waffle was too doughy. Can't say enough good things about this place!!!! I was at the pharmacy a few doors down and was told my prescription was going to take two hours. I'm from the U.S. so I didn't have any phone service or a car and was basically stranded with my 11 month old. We walked over to Damien's to regroup and cool down. Firstly the waffles are amazing!! I couldn't get enough and wish I could take them back to the states with me! The owners also went above and beyond! Damien's has been making waffles in Steveston for years, and I recently found out that they sell their waffle batter to several companies across the lower mainland! The most noteworthy one would be Cafe Medina (the famous Brunch place with 60-90 minute line-ups) Anyways, I love walking over here on a sunny day to grab one of their fresh waffles to-go and sometimes I even buy a bag to bring home to share with my family. My favourite flavour is yuzu, which is a sweet Japanese citrus that tastes like a sour mandarin/lemon/grapefruit. The owner of the store is Belgian and his wife is Japanese, so they have many unique flavours to choose from. Matcha is also a very popular Japanese flavour at Damien's, but the flavour isn't too prominent so I tend to order Yuzu most of the time even though I love matcha-flavoured baked goods. My second favourite would be the dark chocolate covered waffle, which is seriously amazing. If you want to eat your waffle right away, you may ask for your waffle to be heated up and they will toast it up for you right away! The facade of the shop is quite worn and it's quite easy to miss since it's not in the center of Steveston. You really have to keep your eye out when driving/walking around because many of my friends tend to miss it when they come to visit! read more

The batter wasn't cloyingly sweet like most other Belgian waffles; instead it was only mildly so, and I was surprised by the small sugar chunks in the mix that added to the texture and made up for the sweetness. But follow the sweet smell, and it will lead you to this hidden gem. Inside, the owner's children roam around, but your attention will quickly turn to the perfect round fresh Liege style waffles. They are smaller, sweeter and denser than "Belgian waffles". They make their waffles in house, without eggs and preservatives. They're made with real butter, honey and a special sugar from Belgium called pearl sugar. Vanilla (original) , Cinnamon, Maple, Matcha (Grean tea). Dark , Milk or White Chocolate. The plain ones are $2.25, and the ones dipped in chocolate are $2.50. There's a couple of small tables and seats for customers that want to eat in. Since they were closing, I decided to buy some to take home. The owner recommended that I reheat it my toaster, to get the outside a little crisp, and the inside warm and soft. Nice Frenchmen and japanese wife possibly, friendly. Explained a bit of each waffle in display case. all kinds, so chose the caramel, but not to get too excited w/ caramel oozing out, but rather, added to the dough. this was yummy. Hidden in a strip mall just north of "downtown" Steveston sits a gem. Who would've thought that such delicious Belgian waffles could be hidden! This place should have a storefront on the water, in the middle of historic Steveston, or downtown Vancouver, somewhere people can walk by a smell these delicious waffles being made. Such delicious varieties as well (well, I assume). I walked in just as they were closing, and I felt bad - but because of the kindness of the owner, I was able to take home an original Belgian waffle, and white chocolate Belgian waffle. FREAKIN DELICIOUS. They kindly warmed up the original for me, as I walked to my nearby rented accommodations (I was visiting Steveston/Richmond/Vancouver from the U.S.). For not having any special flavors or toppings, I couldn't have chosen a better waffle. To be honest, I was convinced by them to get the original. And now the white chocolate Belgian waffle. The coating of white chocolate was so savory, over the Belgian waffle. Your hands will get sticky, because the white chocolate will run down the sides like it was carefully dipped (or was it poured on?). I wonder where they got the white chocolate from, because when you add that on top of their already incredible Belgian waffle, you've got a waffle worth saving in your pocket and taking it with you wherever you go; whenever you feel hungry, or in a content mood, take a bite and you'll feel fulfilled - perhaps adventurous. Next time I'm here, I want to try their Macha Belgian waffle! The owner, Damien I assume, corrected me with "How good are they" when I asked "How big are they?". They're about the size of a burger - the width, I mean. This is the best comparison I can come up with, right now, but just believe me when I say get at least two or three. Grab a Belgian waffle or two. Maybe three. Maybe four. Grab as many as you can, and enjoy them as you walk through the breathtaking village of Steveston. Great little place. A little place off the main drag, but worth hitting up before or after your visit to the docks. A multitude of waffle varieties, all equally delicious. We enjoyed the apple one in particular. Nice and crisp on the outside, warm and chewy on the inside. Good thing is the waffles are not overly sweet. Waffles do not have eggs in them, so they do not need to be refrigerated. A quick pop into the oven or toaster and they are as good as fresh baked. Oooh, waffles. The perfect food made better by the Belgians who added little pearl sugar beads. Those surprising little bursts of sweet that would only be better if there was some bacon. Of course, if you head in at lunch time, they have savoury waffles (the day I went, it was waffles with prosciutto and brie); I imagine that to be like heaven. I had my first Belgium waffle here and I fell in love with the Yuzu flavour one. I didn't have to bite into it and I already taste the light citrus tang of the fruit. I didn't taste a lot of the matcha in the matcha waffle but it may be because I ate the yuzu one first. Mmmm waffles! These are nice thicker Belgian style waffles that you order to go and heat up at home. They have their traditional sugar and vanilla versions, but they also offer some unique flavors like matcha (green tea) and my personal favorite, yuzu (light japanese lemon flavor). There's the fancier versions dipped in chocolate but I have not yet tried those. I like the banana chocolate flavor as well which has little pieces of chocolate filling the holes with a banana waffle base. All of their waffles are fresh and are perfect on their own warmed up in the toaster - no need to dunk them in syrup... these are perfect on their own! I came across this booth when they were at Aberdeen Center in Richmond. I LOVE liege waffles and was so excited to try the green tea flavor. We purchased one green tea and one yuzu waffle. The lady toasted them for us. I have to say I was a little disappointed. A Belgian waffle should be nicely caramelized on the outside from the pearl sugar, giving it a slightly crunchy/crisp exterior. I did see pearl sugar in it but I don't think enough was used to create a caramelized exterior (pearl sugar is expensive). Instead, the waffle was just kinda soft. okay, okay, i admit i have a soft spot for family-run establishments. an even bigger soft spot if the proprietor's kids are inquisitive/adorable and the food is unexpectedly delicious. --- i had heard a rumour that the waffle batter from a certain belgian crosstown breakfast/brunch restaurant was actually from damien's so, i decided to come and see if the rumours were true. sure enough, they are, and lucky for me, i now know that i can come to damien's to get a variety of fabulous waffles (my favourite is their caramel flavoured one) and nice french press coffee. not sure how long they'll be running the breakfast special for but if my metabolism allowed it, i'd be here everyday - your choice of waffle, served with berry compote, whipped cream, maple syrup and french press coffee or tea - for $6. like vincci stated, it is located in an unassuming strip mall and the interior of the store is more of a kitchen (or perhaps a factory like the name suggests?) than a cafe. if the weather is nice, there are two bistro tables set up out front. waffle-wise, i personally prefer damien's over patisserie lebeau. even though PL has a much bigger selection of flavours, i find that their base waffle itself to be too sweet and oilier than the waffles at damien's. read more

One of the nicest tucked away unassuming shops just outside the Steveston village. Waffles seem to be the new cupcakes these days. These are authentic Belgian waffles complete with sugar pearls inside (you can buy the pearls separately as well).
