Possibly one of the most interesting and amazing grocery stores that I have ever been to in my entire life. Disney meet grocery store. Here is your dancing and singing butter. Over there is your mooing cow. Marionettes and puppets popping out of the woodwork. Mickey Mouse doing trapeze work from the rafters. There's even a petting zoo for goats and cattle outside. Additionally, they claim to be the World's Largest Dairy Store, according to Ripley's Believe It or Not. I believe. Flummoxed and flabbergasted and in a huge rush, I failed at taking any photos. We were late to the beach. But we picked up some cold cuts of pastrami and turkey with some hamburger rolls along with coleslaw and their assortment of chocolate chip cookies and hit the road. The pastrami was disturbingly good with a nice smoky peppery bite. The chocolate chip cookies even though they melted out in the hot sun were also pretty amazing. Today was such a beautiful day that we decided to go to Stews for lunch and get out of the office. What a mistake!! My order was very simple, one chicken burger...I waited so long that I had to go inside to get someone to come out and help. So many people received cold awful food that they threw it away in disgust and left. It took 30 minutes to receive my food and that was quick. They had one person on the register who didn't know anything and was extremely slow. The cook had to cook and hand deliver the food one order at a time. The girl on the register just stood there and watched. The setting was awful...dirty tables, food on the floor, flies and birds everywhere. I must say this was a huge mistake that I will NEVER make again. Too many other options on Westport Avenue. read more

Stew Leonard's is the best super market hands down in America. Everything is so fresh, the orange juice is nice and pulpy. I really like how it is fun for adults and kids. The pastries smell great right when you walk in. The dairy products are good and the soft serve is amazing. I cannot wait until the weather gets nicer and then they will have the outdoors section. I would recommend getting the soft serve and the calm chowder is really good as well. read more

Wow, this place is awesome. Its part grocery store, part novelty. It was like a maze walking through here. Kind of like the feeling when you walk through an Ikea. Like you just have to walk through it, just see everythiing they have to offer. The scent of freshly baked pastries greets you immediately upon walking into the store. I mean, how can that not impress you already. My manager had told me on Monday that it was one of the best grocery stores he'd ever been to. Sadly, it wasn't Thursday, the night before I left Norwalk that I decided to come here. So since I wouldnt be able to eat the food in the remaining time I was here, I could only admire it. You first walk through the pastry section, which brings you to the yogurts, milks, cheese, meats, seafood, pizzas, fresh produce, then finally to the hot foods. I mean you literally need to walk the maze to get what you want. I didnt mind, I'm a sucker for these things. Since theyre known for their dairy, I could pass the opportunity to try a pint of their ice cream. read more

This is the best food store I have ever been too. I am lucky enough to live close enough that I can take advantage of their specials every week... (their meat and fish specials are the best of all) The physical store is a destination in itself but the food is just as good. Besides the specials, the produce and bakery sections always have good offerings. In the summer their cookout menus are really good and use a lot of their own products... At a decent price as well. read more

Stew Leonards in Norwalk is a great dairy and more. The bake goods and vegetables are fresh and delicous. They also have a good selection of meats and the store runs weakly specials. I recommend going on off days at off hours to prevent the risk of being run over by your fellow shoppers. This is a great grocery store to take kids because of the entertaining robotic, musical displays. read more

Stew's is an experience, a destination - that's how we treat it anyway. We go for the animals, the halloween hayride, an ice cream perhaps - and we always have fun, especially the kids. I would never make this a weekly shopping trip though... It's crazy busy and very hard to navigate through the store with a shopping cart if you are trying to be a quick and efficient shopper, like me. read more

I dislike the fixed path through the store that everyone need to follow. (Even though there are a few 'shortcuts'. The floor tiles make a loud din which is much too noisy. Stew Leonard's has very few organic products. I find the quality of the fish uneven - I've had to throw out what was called 'cod' on several occasions. There are better places to buy fish. read more

Stew Leonard's never ceases to amaze me. The store is extravagant, with all of the groceries anyone could ever want. The layout is youthful, energetic, and spirited. The staff are incredible - always treating customers with respect and going the extra mile to meet their needs. My personal favorite is the freshly prepared hot food, with dozens of different options every day and a special made-to-order food station once a week. Of course, I can't leave out the ice cream - delicious! And the best part of it all is that everything in the store is more than reasonably priced. I must say, this place somehow leaves me pleasantly surprised each and every time I attend. The food, the staff, and the experience make Stew Leonard's a must see for everyone in the area. I'd never seen a grocery store like this until this past weekend. WHOA. Singing animals, self-bottled juices and milks, free samples galore, cherries in January (WTF? I don't think those are local), acres of amazing-smelling baked goods...my only regret is that the 20-degree weather outside actually stopped me from partaking in the frozen yogurt. Best grocery store in Fairfield county. Nothing compares - I have been coming here forever with my family and even going back now as an adult I get excited. They have amazing breads, bagels, chocolate milk, produce & great cuts of meat (just to name some of my favorites). Everything is fresh and very tasty - even the bbq area out front is great. It is huge and they have everything. One thing to note is that Stew's isn't the place to pick up a few quick items. It's like a maze and you really need at least an hour to get through everything. In my opinion, the best time to go is in the fall: the fresh apple cider, apple cider donuts and pumpkin pies are incredible! read more

Born and raised in Norwalk, how can I NOT review Stew Leonard's? I've loved this place my whole life. I worked there in high school as a cashier and on a few occasions I even dressed up in that awful cow costume. They have great produce at a fair price. This is one of the best grocery stores I have ever been to. Don't go during the "rush" hours because it gets packed, but if you're looking for great food this is the place. It's a little higher priced than other stores, but the quality of the food is worth it. Everything is clearly labeled where it comes from and when it was made. They have all sorts of foods ready to go, with a huge salad bar, sushi bar, chicken wing bar, seafood bar, pizza bar, bakery, deli, and lots more that I don't have time to list. I stopped at Stew Leonard's yesterday...what a really neat place. There are no isles, like a conventional grocery store, instead, you are trapped rather like a rat in a maze with no idea of where you have been and what you haven't yet seen. But like the rat, there is a pre-prepared food reward at every turn. And like the rat, the food isn't very good. I wanted to try everything, it all looked so inviting, but I restrained myself and ordered a slab of ribs and the fish and chips. The rib BBQ sauce had to be scraped off it was so disagreeable and the ribs themselves were neither slow cooked nor smoked. I'm not sure of the correct cooking term for this style rib but it is not BBQ and it is bad. The fish was of mediocre quality nothing remotely as good as City Fish somewhat up the street and to the right (traveling north to Wethersfield). Even if gas were $10 a gallon the trip to Wethersfield would have been advised. There was a great abundance of very appealing fresh fruit and vegetables but alas, it's approaching summer in CT and I hope EVERY Nutmegger buys direct from their local farms. Mmmmmm..... Stew's..... It's about 30 miles from my home so I make it a destination when there's a good deal. Two weekends' ago I drove down for a special treat - a King Crab Extravaganza! (special @ $8.99/lb for 3 lbs or more)... Yummity yum! Looks like another visit coming this weekend! New York Strips and veal from Amish Country! Meat can't be beat... cheeses galore! Beautiful produce... I love this store! If you go to the Norwalk Store be sure to add Penzey's Spices to your agenda! Disgusted with Stew's as usual. I was at Stew's Danbury location only for an ice cream for my child. I don't shop there anymore because they're customer service has become obsolete. I had been a customer since the original store in Norwalk. As I was walking away from having made my purchase (during which the teenager shorted me change and immediately left the register to sit and look on his phone, forcing me to call him back) I made an observation. There was a very elderly woman, with her daughter I'm assuming, approaching the ice cream counter and there happened to be what appeared as 2 male managers nearby. A conversation began between them regarding the wooden tokens that used to be given out when spending over $100 because it be older woman had done just that. The managers explained that practice had been done away with and now all customers need the Stew's app on their phone to track purchases. I have been an elderly caregiver and I'm so tired of companies deciding to go completely electronic without any regard for people that may not have smartphones such as some handicapped or others that choose not to or can not use a smartphone, in particular the elderly population! It's discriminating against people that don't have smartphones if the only way that something can be obtained, such as coupons flyers and coins or tokens, (like Big Y) is electronically!! I voiced my opinion to one of the managers, Jamie, by saying "God forbid you keep the tokens for older people like that" and he started arguing with me in the front entrance of the store! He was yelling things I didn't say and I further explained myself due to my mask possibly having misstated my actual words. Jamie seemed to think that by offering ONE elderly woman a free cone, the entire issue was solved, failing to realize my point. When I used the word discrimination he went ballistic. He was completely unprofessional and was screaming at me, all with my child next to me. I explained the tokens were fun for kids to actually hold onto. My Dad used to give them to us. Many older people don't have smartphones due to arthritis or other reasons; some of them do and can't navigate downloading an app and will happily admit it. **The basis of ADA laws put into practice is that if someone is not offered the same benefits as the rest of the population due to an inability or disability, then it's discrimination against that particular person and others such as themselves.** Simple. The stupid manager, Jamie, was too uneducated to grasp that concept and argued with me for 3 minutes in the very front of the store as I asked him if arguing with customers was written on the rock out front. He didn't pull me aside and offer to bring my concerns to management or anything. Just kept attacking me because he says I was yelling at him for helping a customer? Stew Leonard's is NOT what it used to be as stated by another employee that told me she has worked there as a cashier for 25 years while being a Mom. There is NO excuse for any manager to ever argue with a customer in front of other customers. EVER. I know because I've been one. Stop making excuses Stew's and get back to the way business used to be done. In the meantime, I'll continue to shop elsewhere and tell everyone not to patronize you as well. Who doesn't love Stew's. The pricing is fair and the selection is varied. They always have great samples on the weekend which are worth trying. Definitely grab the stews popped flat chips. Especially the chocolate dipped ones. Only issue is that so many people love the place that it is crowded. If you can try and avoid it during peak times like weekend mornings. read more

I've loved this place since I was a kid and I still go there from time to time. Everything is great from the donuts to the meats to the fish. Whenever I have a BBQ this is the spot I hit up. Even their frozen burgers I got once were awesome. Also, sometimes when I'm lazy I grab their cooked food and it's always delicious. Certain things are kind of expensive, and it's always packed, so this isn't the place I go to if I'm in a rush or to grab something quick. read more

There's a museum of its history, there are free samples throughout. 2 small eateries are attached with a pumpkin patch in the parking lot. A Norwalk institution, Having been born and raised in Norwalk, I would come here and visit the farm and come in the Christmas time for the Christmas tree. The food and produce is always fresh and tastes great. Lines are usually long but the registers move pretty quick. It has every thing you could possible want and then some. From lobster to steak or dairy products you can find it here. The buffet is also excellent and so are the soups. No other place like it in the area. 5-stars all around. read more
