They were hand cut, crispy, and tasted homemade. On the other hand, the mac and cheese was mediocre. To explain, it was really cheesy, but it was so heavy that you couldn't eat very much without getting sick. Similarly, the hot dog was average. To enumerate, the hot dog itself had good flavor, but the meat sauce was ridiculously sweet. After that, I ordered a chocolate shake for dessert and it was great. To breakdown, the shake was thin, flavorful, and the ice cream tasted homemade. It was simply a good shake. But I did finally stop by for some of the famous desserts/ ice cream. Service was great. The young man at the service window made a number of very helpful suggestions, especially after I mentioned that I've begun to show a bit of dairy sensitivity if I have ice cream late at night. So I tried the nondairy Dole pineapple whip in a cup. It was delicious. My friend had a double scoop of chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone. That was delicious, too. I tried some. There were many customers. Since Guptill's is widely considered a Capital Region institution, I'm slightly embarrassed that I haven't visited before. The ice cream stand is large and clean. I had two eggs over easy, potatoes, sausage patties, marble rye toast, tomato juice and coffee. My wife had the French toast. which looked great. The people that work there are phenomenal. They really go out of their way to make you feel at home. If you're looking to have great food in a place that takes you back in time, this is the place to go. I often get a sundae with twist ice cream, peanut butter sauce and hot fudge. Their peanut butter is delicious, it has a real peanut butter taste unlike other ice cream places in the area. We have also tried their edible cookie dough sundaes which are also fantastic. The only reason we don't get them more often is just because it's so decadent. They must have recently changed to also accept cards rather than just cash so that's convenient. The staff is always friendly and makes your ice cream quickly. My only complaint would be that the menu is a little overwhelming and hard to follow but as long as you have a general idea of what you want it doesn't really matter that much.

So if the lines are long, just know they'll get to you usually within 5-10 minutes. No wildly long waiting time. Parking is a bit challenging. We will be back this season and hopefully see some new soft serve flavors debuts as the season progresses!
