Awesome bbq!!! Got the combo with sausage, sliced brisket, and pork belly with mac and cheese, tomato cucumber salad and Brussels sprouts as sides. The brisket had a nice smoke ring, wasn't overly salty, tender and very moist even though it was almost 8pm when I went. The sausage was flavorful and not overly fatty, and the pork belly was also delicious and tender. I also took home a beef rib and that thing was soooooo good even reheated. Meaty, moist and great smoke flavor. Portion sizes were generous and the price wasn't bad at all. I went to terry blacks a couple of days later and Stiles Switch blows it out of the water. I dont know if I was just hungry or what, but it was so good. Everything. I was lucky enough to score an end piece, and I also had the mild sausage. Their house made bbq sauce is mello, not too overbearing, and doesnt overpower the meat. A little like a Texas "Marinara" if I may take that liberty. The meat was not overbearing with a perfect, gently smoked flavor. When dipped in the bbq sauce... very good. The sausage had a fine texture with a "snap" as you cut through the natural casing. I loved all of it. And don't forget their unique potato salad. Not sure of the recipe, but it doesnt taste like standard mustard type. It has a fresh dill flavor. One of my favorite potato salads. Alright, I'm not the best person to talk bbq with because hunks of pure meat have never so appealed to me. But I generally can appreciate the value of a good brisket. This, however, wasn't one. The service and the food was just plain awesome! First time to visit while in Austin amd went here 2 days after a disappointing time at Terry Blacks. This place was very inviting and with a friendly staff. They allow you to taste test and they encourage it. Best decision made after trying brisket and ribs. I learned a lesson while In Austin trying bbq...some places are just glum and glamour they push numbers and may have just one or two staple dishes. I realize I'm more in love with Stiles since my first visit a while back. It's always a go-to suggestion when folks ask for recs. My husband and I stop in for lunch, we here in Austin for the weekend. I had the 3 meats ( turkey, St. Louis ribs and the original smoke sausage) which all was smoke, tender and very juicy. My husband had the same except he had St. Louis ribs, brisket and cheddar jalapeño sausage and the sausage of the month chimichurri sausage (Delicious). Sides not my favorite but ok...Mac and cheese...ok, cucumbers and tomatoes salad really good and potato tots are good. Would definitely come back. read more

This place was great. We came later in the day and walked right in and up to the counter. They slice it and put it on your tray as you order so no waiting. We got brisket, ribs, wings, jalapeño cheddar sausage, and the Diablo sandwich as mains. All were stellar. Ribs have a slight kick to them, but it was the perfect amount. Came here for a late lunch/early dinner on a Friday. Had no wait, but around 330 isn't really a busy time at too many places. For my first time I thought one of the meat platters was a good way to try a few different items. Went for my go to of brisket and asked the person serving me to recommend a second meat and he told me to (surprisingly) to with the turkey breast. For my two sides I went with the pinto beans and corn casserole. The brisket was tasty, had a nice mix of fatty and tender pieces. The flavor on its own was solid but I did find myself dipping it in bbq sauce on most bites. The turkey breast was the most disappointing part of the meal. It came out pretty dry and even the seasoned parts were pretty unflavorful. I mostly used the turkey breast as a vessel to try their various sauces. I personally liked their spicy mustard the best. As for the sides, the corn casserole was the star of the meal. It tasted like you soaked a corn muffin in a glass of milk. Went great with the bbq sauce (I acknowledge how weird this mix is), but I can't recommend it enough. The beans were solid, the menu said they came mixed with brisket but there wasn't much to be found. While the food was a mixed bag, I think I'll be coming back here most for their patio and drink specials to catch a game or hang out if I'm not feeling like going downtown. They have a solid space with a couple tvs and a great deal with any 6 beers for 18$ and they have a pretty solid selection of local craft beers. The brisket was perfectly prepared and all so tender and juicy. I loved the several choices of available BBQ on the table to try as well. The service was fast and the restaurant it self has a great laid back hipster vibe. I only took off one star because of the price. For a brisket sandwich and small corn casserole (which was all so delicious). I was about taken back by the price. With a water I paid 22 bucks!!!! Stiles has long been on my "must try" list. Ironically I've probably passed this place 100 times without noticing since it's somewhat set back from the road. This time it was a purposeful visit, and a delicious one it was. Upon entering, Stiles feels like a homey bbq place, but a bit more upscale than most, with beautiful, thick, wooden tables and some comfortable booth seating. Typical of bbq places, you go through a line to place and receive your order on a metal tray, and pay. They conveniently have to-go cartons (ecologically friendly), real silverware, and a self-serve drink station set inside the seating area. The tables each have 3 types of sauces (in addition to their regular bbq sauce that comes with your meat order). There's a hearty mustard, which has a bigger flavor than a plain yellow but doesn't go as far as a brown; a balsamic sauce that, as the vinegar name implies, is akin to a North Carolina style; and my favorite, a chili-lime that is not really spicy, and reminds me of a Kansas City style sauce. I stepped up to order the 2-meat plate, which comes with 2 sides and 2 slices of potato bread, onions, and pickle slices (not made in-house, but of good quality). I was super-impressed to find that when I ordered the Chopped Beef, they actually take fresh-sliced brisket and chop that up. No old, pre-made chopped beef from a container here. They'll then add as much sauce as you desire to the chopped. I also got their Original Sausage, a whole link sliced while you watch. For those of you who enjoy a sausage with cheese, the January special sausage sounds delish--sausage stuffed with house-made pimento cheese. They also have a cheese and jalapeño version on a daily basis. For my first side I chose the Potato Salad, which I loved partly because it is a mix of mashed and pieces of potato (I don't like huge hunks of potato in my salad). I also got the Corn Casserole which is basically a soft, moist, sweetened cornbread with kernels of corn throughout. I also ordered a side of the marinated Cucumber-Tomato Salad to go. I think a fresh, crisp side goes so well with meat dishes (think coleslaw), and this salad definitely met that standard, but the marinade was kind of lackluster. I think it would be better using balsamic vinegar and some salad seasoning. My daughter got the Brussels Sprouts, and they were fantastic--fried with a Serrano (honey?) glaze. Super yum. Tasting all of our sides led to a discussion of Stiles' menu: we vote that they should definitely offer "vegetable plates" at prices lower than adding up individual sides, for those who'd rather not partake of the bbq. That way no one can nix Stiles for a group lunch just because they don't, won't, or can't eat meat! Really, their sides are outstanding. On Wednesdays they also offer a cheesy tater tot casserole to accompany their prime rib special (I've already targeted the prime rib for my next visit--one of my favorite cuts). First let me say, this review has nothing to do with their BBQ and all of the daily specials. I do consider Stiles Switch underrated with other BBQ places in Austin and for that matter, Texas. My reason for the one star is due to trying to order a take out order one evening at 6:50. After entering in my order for takeout, it gave me a message that they are not accepting online orders this evening. Since this was only a special menu item night, I was excited for the order and I decided to call. After I went through the series of automated questions, they finally gave me the option to press one and speak to a cashier. Once abruptly answer and clearly annoyed someone had called, I tired to explain I had attempted to place a takeout order online and was cut off saying not taking online orders (obviously). I said that's why I'm cal...(yes, that's all I got out before again being cut off and saying, "we don't do orders over the phone for takeout, CLICK! I have ordered online and over the phone several times and I suggest ownership / management remove it from their website. I know I will probably cool off after writing this review and humbly go back again but there are too many BBQ places in Austin that will be kind and courteous. I've the line at Franklins multiple times and have always been treated warmly, patient and courteous. read more

Fatty brisket is just "ok"- the burnt ends are fantastic but the flavor doesn't penetrate very far at all. One thick piece had a certain undercooked funkiness too. Turkey- the best smoked turkey we've had. Simply perfect. Pork Ribs- very good pork ribs. Sides: spicy Cajun slaw is great, cornbread casserole is excellent, normal slaw is average, fries are decadent. Drinks: Several quality Texas beers on draft and nice selection of craft bottles. Service: order at the counter and carry your tray. The younger guys working the counter don't listen. My wife and I both ordered the spicy Cajun slaw, but the kid totally spaced and gave us the creamy slaw. Ambiance: old-school, quirky, rustic ambiance. It works perfectly! Price to quality ratio: The price is just a tad higher than the overall quality. So we think the price to quality ratio is a bit skewed but the location in mid-Austin no doubt impacts the prices. But for a lunch for 4 (and not an extravagant lunch) we paid $98.00. Overall cleanliness: average Bathroom cleanliness: below average. The men's room was in desperate need of cleaning. read more

Came here with my brother and his girlfriend, and she felt sick afterwards, but I had a good time. The brisket, sausage, and pulled pork sandwich were really good and soft. The corn casserole was straight-up sugar so tasted great but drastically increased my risk for Type 2 Diabetes. I normally like coleslaw, but this coleslaw was gross. We didn't wait long as we got there a little after 11am, but the line got really long afterwards. I like to take my out of town friends there because it's consistently good, reasonably priced, with a variety of sides to choose from, without it having too much fanfare that makes the entire bbq experience not worth it, imo. (Looking at you Franklin's) This was the first time that I've had stiles switch catering and I was very impressed. The quality of the food was the same as when it's served in their restaurant. Flavorful, warm, delicious, etc. They had all the fixins and I didn't feel like I missed out on any part of the restaurant experience. The workers were able to get everything set up quickly, provide the necessary things promptly to keep the line moving and we're very gracious to let you pick out your cuts of meat. While in the Austin area with the lovely and gracious Wonder Wife, I decided I had to get some good Texas BBQ. I had been to Stile's Switch BBQ before (many years ago) and recalled that I enjoyed the food. We ordered a lot of food because we knew we'd want to take some home. We got a three meat plate ($22.95 for jalapeno/cheddar sausage, brisket and turkey) and a beef rib ($34 - it's $27/lb). The sides were the corn casserole and pinto beans. We also got a chopped beef sandwich ($10) to take home and peach cobbler for dessert. The good: - The beef rib was outrageously good. - The brisket was delicious - The sausage was outstanding - The corn casserole was good - They put a ton of meat on the sandwich - The service was good and the girl at the register was super friendly The bad (or the 'not quite as good'): - The turkey was good, but not anything to write home about - The pinto beans were merely okay - The prices seem pretty high, especially the beef ribs. The ugly: - The peach cobbler was absolutely disgusting. I don't know if we got a bad batch, or what, but it tasted like something in it had spoiled. To me, it's all about the meat. So, even though the beans are so-so and we had a really bad experience with the cobbler, the rest of the food made up for it. Also, the owner is an Aggie. So, if you're an Ag, let them know. I thought I ordered the spicy version, but got traditional coleslaw. Skip it. The corn casserole is delicious. The pickles and jalapeños were a great touch. Good selection of beers on tap. Getting suggestions from two residents in Austin to go check this place out, I was thinking this place had to be legit. And it was pretty good, but to be honest there are better elsewhere (in Austin). This place is really good though, and by far if I lived nearby, I would come here by default instead of other places that have a longer wait time. So what's the difference? Why doesn't it get to that point? I think it's a personal choice, but my experience in the food was this: I ordered half pound brisket, St. Louis ribs, jalapeño sausage, and mac n cheese. For me, the brisket wasn't fatty enough. The St. Louis ribs were okay. And to be honest, it's okay. It's not bad in no means! But it's alright. I was expecting the person who cut the brisket ask if I wanted fatty or not. And if he did by all means I would have gotten fatty. To me, the cut I got was a bit too lean. Brisket in my mind should be eaten fatty. That fat and juices should just roll off of it. But you must be thinking: "Why didn't he just proactively ask?" And my response is, well, you see... I'm no Texan. What I get is what I assume what I'm supposed to get. If there's no choice, then it is what it is. The brisket wasn't overly salty (which I very much enjoyed) but at the same time was dry. And brisket isn't supposed to be dry. Anyways, the pork ribs were on the sweeter side, but I'm willing to overlook that. I was supposed to have gotten the beer rib, but I didn't see it until it was too late! One thing I do have to point out though, the mustard sauce is on point! That in itself is what makes me a fan and a place that makes me want to come back. Overall, Stiles is solid. It didn't meet my overhyped expectations, but if you're tight on the time and don't want to wait 40+ minutes this place is a great pick. I had Stiles Switch on my Yelp bookmarks when planning my trip to Austin for my 30th bday with some girl friends, but we were staying downtown and it wasn't the most convenient location during most of our trip. The men at the counter cutting meats were very nice and personable, and upon finding out that we were in town visiting for my birthday, offered to give me a free beer. Unfortunately this being our third day I was beer'd out at this point and had to save my appetite for BBQ instead so I didn't take them up on the offer - so they then offered me a free dessert (again I knew I was too full and wouldn't even be able to finish my food, but I thought it was so nice of them to offer). I ordered the spicy sausage and brisket, but when we were waiting one of the guys gave my friends and I each a sample of their beef ribs, which are on the menu as "The Cadillac of the menu" and DANG THEY AIN'T LYIN! One of my friends was the first to snatch her piece up and as soon as she put it in her mouth she just shouted "OH MY GOD!" so then my other friend and I of course had to try our sample immediately as well. My piece fell apart as soon as I bit into it, it was so tender and flavorful. I immediately regretted no ordering the Cadillac of the menu, but was thankful I got to at least try it. This was our first visit after seeing reviews and it's really good my wife had 2 meat brisket and sausage with pinto beans and cole slaw and said it was excellent plenty of meat and ample sides. Service was fast but the sound level inside makes it hard to hear. I got the special which is prime rib and creamed spinach. Prime rib was ample, cooked well and hard a lot of meat with little fat. Served with horseradish sauce which was tasty. This is expensive for lunch 2 people with lunch and 2 fountain drinks is $45. Woohoo! I found another five-star place. I love when every checkbox gets checked. Stiles Switch has moist and tender ribs (both pork and beef) that are reasonably priced and delicious. But the best part is that parking was easy, plentiful inside seating was available, and there was absolutely no line (during prime lunchtime hours on a weekend too!). At some point we were even going to use their location and food for our wedding reception, but ended up going a different route due to the amount of guests we would have. Anywho! ANNND they just added brussel sprouts as a side in their menu and WOW soooo tasteful and has a spicy kick!! Yall really did it! Some real TEXAS BBQ. We also just found out they have brisket enchiladas on Tuesdays, so we've been saying for forever that we will come try them out!
