I would have this appetizer again. Soft shelled crab special. Homemade bread The chef/owner Bobby prepared everything wonderfully. The food had great flavors. It is worth it to drive to Philly to eat here. We cannot get Greek food like this around our house. Colin was our waiter, and he was fairly new to this restaurant. I really liked his service. Absolutely fabulous dinner! The octopus and mushroom pies and the manti (kind of like gnocchi) with ground lamb was just sensational. Update: returned recently to Stina and it remains a fav. The weather permitted outside seating which was comfy and cozy! While we had pizza again because it's great, the specials of soft shell crab and lamb lollipops made the choice tough! I was a tad disappointed in the lemon blueberry cake that was more a lemon bar than cake, but that could have been envy over the chocolate cake ordered by my companion. Make sure you make that rez bc it's not easy to get into. The outdoor seating has busses whizzing by but the interior is adorable. I love what they are doing creating a vibe on a street that lacks a vibe. Ok, the softshell crab absolutely sucked on last visit and my mother was super disappointed but I don't give bad reviews to indie restaurants. :) pizzas are excellent and so are the carrots. What an awesome spot! I was looking for a place to eat pizza in Philadelphia where we could dine in. After scouring yelp I stumbled upon Stina. What a find! Since it was Good Friday we stayed away from meat. The couple next to us ordered a Filet Kabob that was on special. It looked and smelled amazing. It was cooked to perfection and they were raving over it. We started with the Tryopita. It was spectaucular. I am lactose intolerant and I couldn't get enough. The Standard pizza was light and airy and fed the both of us. It's a BYOB off of Passayunk Ave. Dessert was awesome as well. We got the chef's special which I can't spell or pronounce but it was Awesome!!! Service was great and the head chef came to talk to us and we raved about his dishes. We can't wait to go back and try other things. Has a very cool thrift store vibe as well. With all the paintings on the wall. If you are in the area or looking for a cool spot, go check them out. Goodness, I want to eat here all the time. Wow - I can bring my favorite bottle of wine and then just order some of the greatest food - it's such a treat! We walked into this cute establishment and truly did just that, the crab gnocchi we had was so tasty and fresh - it was as if we were eating the beginning of summer. The anchovy pizza was perfectly salty and heart warming, and we had a little site of labneh that we used for dipping - honestly great call! The carrots were just so good - I love me a carrott that is glazed and cooked perfectly - this was! The food here is amazing! You can get traditional pizzas, Mediterranean pizzas (called "pides", which are like open-faced calzones as our waiter described it), pasta dishes, side dishes, and more. On my first visit, I enjoyed a traditional pepperoni pizza, a spiced lamb sausage, mozzarella, and tabbouleh pide (Turkish flatbread pizza), and sides of lamb manti (dumplings) and fingerling potatoes in paprika. And of course dessert... walnut orange cardamom baklava with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and crushed Oreo wafers. The pizza dough is pillowy soft... like so soft you might want to sleep on a pillow made with this pizza dough! The lamb in both the pide and manti were spiced nicely and never overpowering. This weekend I returned to Stima with friends as they had not experienced the culinary delights by Chef and Owner Bobby Saritsoglou. Stina was absolutely packed with folks enjoying the delicious food and chill vibes. I was a little worried because I didn't have a reservation, and I know this place is always popping. We got it though, and the service all the way through was top notch! Billy made us aware of the specials of the day while we reviewed the menu. We started with the Mediterranean Dips which is a great start, to sample everything. The homemade hummus and tzatziki pair lovely with the in-house made pita bread from their wood-fire oven is delightful. Hot Tip: Order extra pita to get all the dips in Chef Bobby sent us a Tyropita to try and I must say, I have never experienced such a smooth and silky combination of cheese and filo dough and a touch of honey that melts in your mouth! From there we had the Spanakopita, Chicken Kabobs, and Pide. Our table was silent except for the Mmmmms of approval from each delectable bite. The balance of sweet and savory in every forkful was incredible! Even though we were stuffed, we tried all the desserts, because we couldn't resist. The baklava , chocolate cake and a 3rd that I don't recall the name but was another combo of filo dough, cheese and more took us over the top! While eating, we couldn't help but notice the lovely decor that made us feel like we were chilling in someone's home. Stina definitely has a home feel which compliments the food in an awesome way. Stina is one of those restaurants we don't frequent because "it's so far away," but then every time we go, we leave saying, "we've got to start coming here more often!" We've gone for regular meals, tasting dinners, and collaborations, and every time, we leave impressed, full, and simply put: happy. The space is small and cozy, with eccentric decor and casual vibe, and the staff are always really friendly, teaming up to constantly make sure the table is cleared for the next dish (important when your table is small and your order is large) and that your group is enjoying their experience. It can be a tight squeeze, so be prepared to cozy up next to fellow diners. As far as the food, it's a fun mix of Mediterranean cuisine, based in Greek and Turkish, and just about everything hit the spot. If you're planning on ordering a lot of items to get a good sampling (which we recommend), definitely check on serving sizes and/or bring hungry friends. Some dishes are larger than others, so you don't want to be surprised or wasteful. Starting with the pizza. It's really good. The crust is closer to Neapolitan in texture and flavor, but size tends to run larger, and they're much heavier on the toppings. Same with their pide. The merguez pide, specifically, always fills us up. While we enjoy the pizza and always order one (or two), I really think the area Chef Bobby and his team really shines is their other dishes. We always have to get items from the mezze, pasta, and specials. Where the pizza is more predictable, their pasta and specials are often surprising and always delicious. If you show up with a moderate appetite and don't want to overdo it, put the effort into the pasta and daily specials. You'll likely to leave very happy. As if the atmosphere, staff, and food wasn't great enough, the restaurant also regularly gives back to local charities and the community. They also collaborate and promote local chefs and makers in the area. They're a mission-driven place that goes beyond the just the mission of keeping our appetites satiated. Sure, the 3-mile walk makes it feel "so far away," but our goal is get back to Stina with much more frequency. It's an epitome of a great, local BYOB. Affordable, friendly, delicious, unique, and engaged with their local community and city. Be sure to make a reservation (you'll need one) and check Stina out. Officially one of my new favorite spots to eat when I visit Philly. The mortadella pizza is mouthwatering. The pistachios, chermoula, and roasted garlic sauce is such a great combination. It paired very well with the butternut squash. The bread to dip in the soup was crunchy on the outside and the filling was nice and soft. The lamb kebabs had the right amount of spice and with that tahini sauce- excellent!!! The service is very intimate and friendly. You can tell this is a privately owned pizzeria which makes it more appealing as a must try in Philly. On top of that it's BYOB so even better. Stina is a hidden gem in South Philly. Every single bite is packed with big flavor. The service is always incredibly warm and welcoming to match the eclectic decor. This is the perfect cosy spot, it's a rather small and intimate space. Feels like you're in your best friend's living room, but in a good way! They have pizzeria in the name, and the pizza is very good! However I think the standout dishes are in the mezze section. We almost listened to the online articles - would have been fooled. Get the pizza. We came on a Friday night and you need reservations. Service was slow, and you often had to flag them down. Everyone was very nice and courteous. All the apps we got were good, not outstanding. The dip mix, potatoes, carrots, and chicken kabobs. Star of the show really was the pizza! I've tried to write this review for months but you know *waves to the air* this nonsense. Pre-COVID, my boyfriend and I had been to this place a few times, and we did get takeout during these restaurant-challenging times! We are big fans of the Merguez Pide and the Spicy Sopressata Pizza! We are desperately missing the kefta kebabs and hope they may come back one day. I miss getting food tableside and enjoying the atmosphere with fellow dining patrons, but it's nice to know the quality hasn't changed despite doing the takeout option. Everything feels very organized and timely, and if you run home fast enough you might actually be able to eat the food as if you were in the store! In all seriousness, it's great to see a good restaurant still surviving during this pandemic because I've seen so many darlings get shuttered already. Support these guys if you can! read more
