Haikei sushi fans, amazing place for authentic sushi. I was definitely more than surprised when I walked though the traditional noren fabric door curtains into this beautifully decorated restaurant with the cool vibes of Japanese anime projected on the wall. The quality and presentation far surpassed my expectations. I had the best seaweed salad that I've ever had. It consisted of about four different types of seaweed and was served with a very fresh, definitely house made, ginger dressing. The big eye spicy tuna was amazing as was the ceviche. I will definitely be returning to this location after one of the most pleasant dining experiences I've ever had in town. Remember back when sushi first became a thing? Somewhere around 1995? THIS reminds me of the quality that was available back then - before sushi became over commercialized & loaded with sauces and extras that don't belong in traditional sushi. All around very good meal. Sat outside. Was given heads up that they might be delayed in service due to being short staff. They definitely underpromised and overdelivered. Service was prompt enough and quite professional. Food was great. Had specials: blowfish tempura, fluke sushi, scallop sushi, uni sushi. All were tasty. Selections on menu also hit the spot. We went here on a Friday night and sat inside reluctantly, but the physical setup felt safe. We had seaweed salad, raw octopus, duck lettuce wraps, salmon spicy roll and the sashimi rice bowl. Everything was delicious and fresh - as good as a meal in the city. The sake flight was good and the wine choices were limited, but local. Cannot say enough good things about this place. Both the service and the food were amazing. Put this on the top of your list when visiting Greenport. The drinks were unique and strong and the food was extremely fresh. Ordered the Sashimi Deluxe and ended up ordering another, it was THAT good. I love the whole experience at stirling sake. From the ambiance (good tunes with animae playing on a projector screen, adding a fun and funky vibe), to the wonderful personable and attentive service and of course, the fantastic, fresh fare. Yes it may be pricey but I think it is well worth it as everything that comes out of the kitchen exceeds your expectations. Not to mention the sale selection is kick ass. Ask Rikki for a recommendation and you won't be disappointed! From the moment we walked in the server addressed us as if they were doing us a favor by letting us in. There were several free tables and people paying and getting ready to leave, there were tables with children and the patrons looked to be of diverse backgrounds. We were a party of 5 including one 6 year old child. Our party of 5 consisted of my mother and my sister, who were visiting from Barcelona, my husband who is Japanese, our child and I. They looked down on us the whole time, service was inattentive and the soups that we ordered had no broth. The place seemed nice and clean and they seemed to have a large selection of sake, which we did not try because we felt ill that evening, and hence the decision to have noddle soup at a Japanese restaurant. I think it is very sad to see people in the service industry that do not understand that you can't work in the service industry without customer service. I have gone to many restaurants in NY and in many cities around the world, but I never once felt looked down upon before. I suggest you treat your patrons with respect if your goal is to stay in business for the long run. My visit to the Northfork was wonderful otherwise, Stirling Sake was the only bitter pill I had to swallow. read more

They have authentic selections of sake, knowledgeable staff, and great quality food. If you're looking for a full meal I suggest the noodles and maybe one or two appetizers max. Both the udon and soba noodles are accompanied with full bodied broths. The sushi and rolls are not generic so don't expect to pay buffet style prices. The fish portions are not only generous but the quality of the fish is visibly noticeable. The appetizers are generally smaller in portion but absolutely delicious. If you find the pickled porgy in season make sure to give it a try! read more

In a land surrounded by seafood and ports, you'd expect better. But, being one to frequently subject myself to the mediocrity of NYC sushi delivery, this place is ok. (Seaweed salad for the win.) That being said, there's no sushi bar which is weird imo, and their Ikura is oddly sweet. Please don't sugar up those eggs. Also, offering some light bites like sushi, other than ramen, would be be awesome on a hot summer day. (Rather than sushi only being available during dinner.) My wife and I were very impressed with the delicious array of sake and shochu Stirling sake has to offer. One of the best tasting sushi rolls I've had in Suffolk county in years. Appetizers were prepared perfectly as well. The decor is very nice inside with a very nice cocktail bar and sushi bar. I ordered a long island duck ramen bowl off the specials menu, and wasn't super impressed with it. I'm looking forward to trying a different entre next time I go. Green tea cheesecake for dessert was delicious as well. I've been here about three times (I don't live in state) and both times I thought it was very good. I recommend the vegetable dumplings. Last time I went, my boyfriend and I both got citrus ramen with vegetables, it was a special. $15 for a very large bowl of ramen didn't seem too bad for me. Prices are ridiculously astronomical considering the portion sizes. $12 for a spider roll which was only 1/2 a roll (four lil pieces) and it didn't spell this out on the menu. $14 for two pieces of tuna sashimi. What? Also, I got an expensive sake which was $25 for "6 ounces" but was really about 1/2 that amount of ounces (which I could easily guesstimate by comparing it to the 5 oz. bottle of soy sauce on the table. I am surprised this restaurant stays in business! The service was incredibly slow and inattentive, despite the fact that there were only four tables seated when we were there! First of all they, were unaware of our reservation, made online and were greeted with puzzlement when we said we had a reso. The server relegated the bus person to take our order, who, when we started to order seemed overwhelmed and said he would have to get our server to take the order. The appetizers came out, along with the drinks, and then... nothing. At this point, my daughter decided to leave with her one year old, and we requested that they pack HER ORDER to go. Several minutes later, the bus person came out and cleared the table... which we questioned, since we still had more food ordered. At this point, then entire dinner order for the group came out packed to go. Lastly, when my son and daughter in law went inside with their child, the other wait person was extremely rude... asking 'what are you doing?' Now that we are home, and have opened our order, we find it is not as we requested... several of the rolls have tobiko on them, despite the fact the we specifically asked for no tobiko. When the bill was presented, the server said she was sorry and would communicate our displeasure to the owner... I hope they have a good back up plan... outside of the restaurant business! read more

There was something special with this place. Was it the simple decor? The outdoor seating? Real Japanese decorative ceramic plates? It's hard to pinpoint. The food was very good and the authenticity is clearly there. It is rather expensive- a modest sashimi platter for one is about $40 and the ramen is just under $20. But it was nice that our lovely waitress (Stacey?) actually had lived in Japan and that she spoke Japanese well and that she pronounced the sake names properly- added a nice touch as she was explaining to us about the different types of sake. Would I go back? Yes for sure. An authentic Japanese choice previously missing. But you must be in your vacation mindset, sipping the superior sake thinking of the wonderful things in life and not in a rush for speedy service. read more
