Stopped by on the way back home because it's conveniently located on Hwy 65. Seated immediately on the non hibachi side. The bartender, Jeremy was our server. He was prompt and very matter of fact-low energy type. I couldn't tell if that was just his personality or if he didn't want to be there. We had two children's drinks, water for the adults, vegetarian lettuce wraps, California roll and bang bang chicken as starters. The lettuce wraps were good, more lettuce than filling. California roll-so small! Chicken was moist but oddly served on a bed of chunky lettuce-like the insides of the lettuce cups. Updated:apparently there is a bang bank chicken salad. Our entree was the vegetable lo mein add tofu. The kids menu has no vegetarian options and doesn't allow for tofu substitutions so we ordered a miso soup and the Japanese soup separately. The portions are absolutely individual. The lo mein was pretty good with a nice variety of vegetables. Our bill was separated by seat with individual tax for every person. For what was mentioned above, our total was $78 which is honestly much higher than I anticipated and for the portions. This place definitely is more about the fluff it seems. There were grease prints on the headboards at the seats and the bathroom floors were sticky. The decor was very basic. For the price and product, wouldn't go back. read more

The sushi is great. We got 2 different raw rolla and both were great and tasty. Nice booths. Waitress was sweet. The lettuce wraps were a pain to eat but quote delicious. They should issue bibs. Lol! The onion soup was great while piping hot but once it cooled off it was tasteless. So obviously most of the flavor is in the odor. The $5 salad was teeny tiny! The dressing was like water but the flavor was good. We also ordered the mandarin combo and it was so terrible that we took two bites and sent it back. It only tasted like sesame oil. They were short staffed on an early Friday afternoon. My small party of 3 had to wait about 20 minutes for seating at the hibachi table. Once seated, things moved along fairly quickly. The staff was fine. The hibachi cook was funny. Food was good. Typical hibachi experience. Where to begin. If I could give zero stars I would. We went to Stix on Wednesday for my daughter's graduation dinner and the entire experience was just awful. We had a party of 15, but of course they wouldn't allow us to ask for seating until we all were there, which should have been the first red flag but I just let it go. We finally get seated only to find out that half of the seats were gross, covered in a sticky substance, the floor was disgusting and sticky. I ask for someone to please come mop up and wipe the seats so we can sit and put our stuff down and the hostess looked at me like how dare you ask me to do my job. When we are all able to finally sit down after we got the seats wiped, they never mopped the sticky floor, we didn't even get a real chance to look at the menus, which were bent beyond readability, before the waitress came to get drink orders. After she brings our drinks, they take our order, fine nothing wrong there. We get our soups and salads, and holy mother of dressing, can I have more lettuce with my bowl of dressing. Almost every salad was swimming, SWIMMING in salad dressing. It was more like a soup at this point. We had to get another salad b/c it was just too much dressing. we couldn't even finish our soups and salads before the wait staff decided to try to come and take our bowls away. Again, feeling rushed like we were taking up a table they needed for someone else. The chef comes out and does his performance, which was meh. It felt like he didn't want to be there. Like same shit different day attitude. I'm cool with that but the food was awful. I mean awful. My hibachi chicken tasked like sesame seed oil, not teriyaki. It was not edible. My mother's dish, which was from the kitchen, didn't come out with the rice, we had to ask if it even came with rice, which it did. After the chef left the waitress comes out with our ticket, we're not even done eating or close to it, and takeout boxes. Like wtf. The whole experience was just awful. We felt rushed, the food was terrible, the service subpar, the restaurant was dirty, and they constantly kept forgetting items for us, like part of the meal was forgotten. I will never go back to Stix. We paid over $400 for this experience and it left a bad taste in our mouthes. read more

I hadn't been to this location in years! A group of us (7) came here for dinner for our ladies night... and this place was PACKED! We waited about 15 minutes to be seated at the hibachi grill. Our waitress came right out and took drink orders and returned quickly with the drinks. A couple of ladies ordered apps and cocktails. Those came out pretty quickly and we ordered our entrees. Our hibachi chef was minimally entertaining but we are a lively bunch and nothing more is required for a good time. We enjoyed the "show" and conversation with the couple that shared the grill with us. I ordered a godzilla roll and combo fried rice from the kitchen. My sushi was awesome and my fried rice was hot and filled with meat. There were no complaints from our table. At the end, our waitress was spread thin but the manager came to her rescue and took care of us... they didn't miss a beat. Of course there was no after dinner convo here, because it's an unspoken rule that you eat and move quickly so that another group may be seated at the grill. Stix is my absolute favorite hibachi place in the Birmingham area. The staff is always so welcoming and nice. The grill chefs are always entertaining and engaging. The food portions are TREMENDOUS. Like eat again next day portions. Their teriyaki chicken is the best around town. We got in and we we're welcome in and told us that waiting time for the hibachi table was 30 minutes so we decided to just go to a regular table. Server was very helpful and was making sure we were taken care of. Food tasted pretty good, I share orange chicken with my mom because portions are large. My husband got the hibachi shrimp and steak and he liked it. The dragon red fire was super cool the presentation and the taste was great too! Dumplings were ok. The only thing is bathrooms floors are very slippery so be careful. Ambience is pretty nice, I noticed that they sing happy birthday if your celebrating. read more

After driving from Norcross, through ATL and finally through Birmingham on the way to Huntsville - successfully navigating through like, a gazillion speed traps, it was a welcome reprieve to relax at Stix. Best friend (BF) and I patiently waited a half hour for them to open at 4:30 and then promptly parked it at the bar. In fact four cars total were waiting for the double doors to open up. The bartender could not have been nicer! He charged up my BF's cell phone while I enjoyed a $5 California rolls off of the bar Happy Hour menu and BF *loved* her Crunchy Shrimp Roll, $5. I think we split an order of Spring Rolls $3.75. (Pictures to follow.) Sweet bartender even allowed me to get a $5 California roll to go for the Hubs. (He served it to me on a plate and then provided a go box for me to place the roll in -- smooth!) Their house wine was good too! I'd noticed Stix before but did not realize it had been there a decade. The bartender said it is one of 3 stores. Nope, I'm wrong, the other stores are in Spanish Fort, AL; Fultondale, AL; Kansas City, KS; and Collierville, TN. Stix is a "hop, skip and a jump" off of I-65 **after** Malfunction Junction and I highly recommend it for a place to chill after a long drive. It's been a while since I have been to a hibachi grill style restaurant, however I wasn't disappointed. The cook did an amazing job and the food was delicious! As many will know Hibachi is grilled food with typical Asian seasoning and your fried rice done in front of you. The food was just right not over/undercooked and definitely not dry and was full of flavor which I really enjoyed the experience and the food. I also ordered a volcano sushi which was finger licking good!! As for the Orange chicken I felt the orange peel was a little overpowering, but then again it is Orange chicken which may not have been for me. This is definitely a nice place to come to celebrate and enjoy the Hibachi grill experience. read more

Hungry for Asian food and had never tried Stix before today! Walked in the front door and immediately was asked Hibachi or table? I wasn't in the mood for a flaming rice show so I chose table. Seated at a booth where the tabletop was scratched and worn but appeared clean. Waitstaff came to meet me promptly and took my drink order. Ordered crab rangoons and Dan Dan Noodles. Barely had time to go to toilet when my appetizer arrived piping hot. Rangoons/wontons were filled with crabmeat served with sweet spicy dipping sauce. Soon to follow my entree was served and it too was fresh and hot! The Dan Dan noodles were delicious with an abundance of diced chicken on top of noodles with a spicy flavorful sauce. I can't say I was impressed with the interior of Stix but the food I ordered was tasty and I would return if the occasion arrived. read more

I met my daughter here for lunch on the Sunday before Christmas. They weren't crowded and we were seated promptly. That's where the experience starts going downhill. Let me begin by saying I have never had a bad meal here. I've also never had bad service here. Until this trip. Our server was less than enthusiastic to say the least. He didn't seem at all interested in receiving my usual 50 percent tip for excellent service. I won't divulge his name as could have just been having a bad day. As usual the sushi was delicious. The food arrived freshly prepared was okay, but not good by a long shot. This is unusual for this chain restaurant. Especially this particular location. They have always been on point in the past. I've probably dined there fifty or sixty times over the years and I've never walked away disappointed, until this visit. I may never go back. We dined here for lunch for a family birthday party a couple of months ago on a Saturday afternoon. The place was not very crowded at this time, but we were asked to wait until our entire party arrived to be seated, which was understandable. Overall, It was the typical Japanese restaurant birthday experience, but the food was less than average. We were seated at a cook top table with full service. I found the food to be less than average, as everything was covered in a rich and sweet teriyaki sauce. I have never been a huge fan of the super sweet Asian sauces. There was no food on the plate that was not completely covered in it. I don't think that I would return, considering that I didn't enjoy any of the food. Ate there last Saturday night with my nieces and nephew, the place was packed last night, the hibachi section is, we had to wait 1 hour and 20 minutes until we were seated with other guests at the hibachi table and the waitress gets out drink orders and our appetizer orders which I rather not want. Our drink orders arrived with the appetizers my nieces and the guests ordered (ginger salad, onion soup, and pot stickers appetizers). The hibachi chef arrived to prepare our meals, he checked to make sure which food we ordered, prepared our meals with a show doing the onion volcano while cooking the vegetables, then the eggs for the fried rice, chicken, streaks. Served the chicken and steaks to the guests, my nieces and nephews. Then prepared the shrimp and salmon for me and the other guest, a woman. My nieces and nephew orderthe chicken and steak hibachi while I or the teriyaki salmon which is YUMMY, grilled to perfection. I've eaten here on numerous occasions with no issue (the only reason I gave it 2/5 instead of 1/5) but on 4/23/17 I had the absolute worst experience here. My wife & I simply wanted to have a good meal so we asked to sit at the 'normal' tables...there were at least 10 empty tables but we were told that it would be 10-15 min. We figured the wait staff was short due to it being Sunday so we opted to wait the 18 min it took to get seated. Long story short... After being seated, our waiter (who was HORRIBLE) stretched our meal out over an 83 minutes. We watched as others were seated, served & cashed out (some by our waiter) before we even had our food (which was nothing special order or such). The table next to is, who were seated before us, were still waiting on there check when we left. They were not impressed either. We will look elsewhere next time, Stix lost this customer. 2/10/2019: went in to give it another try...seated very quickly but after 20 minutes without anyone coming to our table, we got up to leave and someone immediately showed up. After watching how the restaurant side ran, it's unbelievable what a cluster it is.
