I came here for resturant week and I feel like this place is just not very good. The menu came with an appetizer and a main for $25, which should be a good deal. The appetizer I chose were the tuna tacos which tasted pretty well... but were TINY. They were a bit and a half each. Like smallll. They were good but literally a light bite. The main course was of course the steak. I got a skirt steak which I thought may have been good deal. I mean a full portion of steak and app for $25 right? The steak was not good. I didn't expect it to cut like a filet but I did feel like it should have some flavor. To compensate they overseasoned the outside to create a pepper crust, which may have been good but was poorly executed. This point was further made when it came with the chimnichurri sauce on the side. When adding to the steak it overpowered the crust and had a confusing flavor profile. The potatoes it came with were excellent at least. The service was fine. The steak came out cold at first and they took care of it quickly by bringing me out a new steak. The server was a little icy, but honestly it's resturant week lunch and he's probably making very little money so I get it. He wasn't rude just not the level I expect at a steak place. On food alone I wouldn't recommend coming here. Chicago is a hub of great places to get a great steak... unfortunately STK is not one of these places. read more

This is based on the overall experience and this restaurant trying to be a high end steak house- with a very expensive menu - when they are anywhere near the experience and menu of a high end restaurant. We should have walked out but it was my friends birthday and she didn't think we would be able to find another spot on a Saturday night. Finally we were seated after waiting over an hour. Btw everyone waiting said they were waiting for over an hour for their reservations. As we walked to the table, I could see more of the interior design of the restaurant- and it just looked cheap. The table looked like a lunch room table. Cheap fake wood. The server told us the management always over books and there is constantly a huge crowd waiting hours for tables. He also told us the bartenders were brand new and had no experience - this was because my boyfriend tried to order a New York sour. The server said the bartenders are new and have no experience so they couldn't make that. The drinks were $23 - mine was awful. Tasted like someone with no experience made it. The food was outrageously priced for what you got. More expensive than Maple and Ash. Food was nothing special. I got the shrimp pasta because I don't eat steak - I could have made something way better at home or ordered something better from the pasta bowl. The pasta was $55 I believe. Seriously insane prices for what you got and for the overall experience. We don't mind spending money going out, but when the food quality and experience does not meet the expectation based on the price of the dish, that's very upsetting. Also the server could not tell me where the $70 halibut was from. Like are you kidding me? Most expensive halibut I've seen and you can't even tell me if it's Alaskan or where it's from? That's absurd. He also told me to not order it because the cooks didn't know how to properly cook it. Save your money and go to ANY of the other amazing steak houses in Chicago. This place is not good at all and frankly, it sucks if I'm being honest. But I think you can tell that from my review. Complete waste of money. read more

First time in Chicago and first time at STK--unfortunately, both were disappointing. We had a 10:00 PM reservation and were seated at 9:58. The vibe was great at first, but by 10:17 no server had come by. After asking someone for help, we overheard staff arguing about who was supposed to take our table, as if it were a burden. Eventually someone came over, but we didn't receive our first drink until 10:38. Service improved slightly after that, though our server did forget an item. We overlooked it, but given everything that had already happened, we wanted management to be aware of how poor the experience had been. Anthony spoke with us, but he seemed uninterested and dismissive--more focused on moving on than actually listening. The final straw came while eating our last appetizer, the candied bacon, when we found a whole eggshell in the dish. Nothing on that plate contains egg, and no one could explain how it got there. My immediate thought was food safety--specifically salmonella. That's not something you expect at a restaurant of this caliber. Supervisor Olivia came over and was the only person who showed genuine concern. She apologized and explained that this was not the norm, which we appreciated. Given the service issues and the potential food safety risk, we felt it was reasonable not to be charged. Anthony disagreed, and at that point it became clear he simply did not care about us as guests or the level of service we received. Had the pleasure of dining at STK Chicago. Where to begin-- Warm welcome at the host stand where we were promptly seated. From there, our server Patrick introduced himself and took us through the main differentiators of the STK brand, certainly set us up and got us excited for the great vibe that they're known for. The manager also took the time to greet us and made sure we were well taken care of, we were! On to the food, we enjoyed the Burrata app and half dozen oysters, followed by their insane bread service. All very flavorful and beautifully presented. From there we had a 12z ribeye as well as an 8z wagyu flat iron. Both steaks were well seasoned and temperatures perfect. With the steaks, we had the corn pudding, the creamed spinach, and Mac n cheese. All 3, great accompaniments to our steaks. Despite being stuffed we had the baked apple dessert as well as a cheesecake. They were so good, we ended up nearly finishing both! All in all, from the service, decor, vibe, and well executed food, it was a dinner we won't soon forget. read more

The staff were very charming and attentive. We had a family-sized group and the hostess quickly seated us with a smile even though we were about 25 minutes early to our reservation. The waiter arrived so fast, we hadn't looked at our menus yet - our fam is pretty chatty. He cheerfully grabbed drink orders and we were sippin' away about three minutes later. We don't often get the chance to dine out together as it is challenging to coordinate so many schedules. I opened the menu and I'm no miser, but when I see price points at the level of those at STK I get a good feeling knowing that, yes, I'm going to drop some heavy cash, but ultimately we're going to have one of the best meals of our summer. Long story short, the entree did not hit my palette like a $75 steak should. Similar responses from around the table. Also, when I drop 25 for a cocktail it better come with a pitcher of liquor on the side. 2 ounces of an old fashioned packed with ice better come with unlimited refills. Another truly outstanding steakhouse is literally a short walk down the street. I'm gonna save my money and hopefully by next summer I'll be able to try that place. STK: service=5/5; food drinks, at this price point they fall far below expectations=2/5 largely for $$$; quality of food=2/5. Full disclosure: We booked a reservation last minute, without much research, because we needed somewhere downtown quickly. Yelp tagged this as "good for kids" (which it absolutely is not). Disappointing experience overall. Two stars only because our server tried his hardest and was helpful; unfortunately, the food was subpar, especially at this price point. We had the short ribs (overcooked and dry), fish and chips (oily and tasteless--clearly cooked at the wrong oil temperature), and the salmon (fine, but forgettable). The bread service (pesto olive oil) missed the mark, though dessert (cookie with ice cream) was decent. The place is a magnet for desperate parvenus more interested in being seen than in enjoying good food, plus a smattering of in-town-for-business types. When you walk in, you're told there's a 90-minute time limit at the table, and the front staff wander by to check their watch and give you the eye--lol. They didn't enforce this for us, but only because the food took forever to come out between courses. The ambience is all about the show: a DJ booth with loud, mediocre mixes, too few staff for the number of tables, and badly timed food service. I am extremely disappointed and honestly hurt by my experience at STK Chicago. I made a 7:45 PM reservation for two people and was not seated until 9:15 PM -- an hour and a half later. That kind of delay might be understandable with proper communication and professionalism, but that was absolutely not the case. I went to the host stand five separate times asking for updates. First, I was told it would be a 30-minute wait. Then I was handed a buzzer and told it would be about 25 minutes and to come back when it lit up. It never went off. When I returned to ask another host, she told me the buzzer wasn't even set to my reservation name. She finally corrected it, but by that point the disorganization was obvious. While still waiting, I heard a host loudly call out that she had a table for three. I asked politely if they were seating in reservation order, and instead of giving a professional response, she yelled at me. Being spoken to that way as a paying guest was embarrassing and completely unacceptable. What made the situation worse is that no manager ever came to check on us -- not while we were waiting excessively, not after we were seated, and not during the meal. With such a long delay and visible confusion at the front, management should have been aware of the situation and checking on guests. There was no apology, no acknowledgment of the inconvenience, and no effort to make up for the time we lost or the way we were treated. The only positive part of the evening was our server, Patrick, who was kind and professional. Unfortunately, one good staff member could not make up for the poor handling at the door and the complete lack of customer care from management. I came expecting an upscale dining experience and left feeling frustrated, disrespected, and overlooked. Customer service should never make a guest feel like they're a problem just for asking about their reservation. Our server Raul was exceptionally attentive and really good at making recommendations - he knew the menu from front to back and helped us make selections. The location is very modern chic so you can come dressed casually or to impress and it will fit. I would recommend the bar seating if available as standing felt more flexible and open. The happy hour deals were supper fair priced with $3 bites $6 Appetizers, and $9 mini Entrees and drinks. The most impressive dish was the $3 "tater tots", they were more like a fried mashed potato ball. The other meals were all good too and it all came with bread. The server did not bring any of the bread to our table and I had to ask for it after being seated for 20 minutes. He said he was checking his tables and then bringing it out, but I'm not sure that was the case. The server also failed to mention a special that was going on that day. We didn't realize until we noticed the table next to us had a different menu. It was our first time at this restaurant so we didn't know about a different menu. It took the food about 25 minutes to come out. They were out of asparagus. The Mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes were hot and fresh. However, the steak was barely warm. It seemed as if it had been sitting out for quite some time. The Mac and cheese was pretty good as well as the mashed potatoes. The server did not check on us once during our meal for us to mention the cold steak. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and good vibe. But not a place I would recommend if you're looking to have an intimate dinner. It has the aesthetics but it's not fine dining. The tables felt crowded with little space in between each table making it feel congested. Not sure if they only sit certain parties in the back or throughout the restaurant, but the front crowded. Here's our experience in a nutshell: **We had a reservation **We dressed up for a nice dinner, unlike a lot of the other people there **There was no dress code apparently, as people were there in sweatpants in tennis shoes **There are TVs on the wall advertising why you should eat there at the holidays even though we are already there. Sort of thought, well, why not turn the TVs into digital fireplaces, because it's Christmas Eve, but no **There's a huge neon sign about how pressure is good for us. We really don't subscribe to that when out for dinner **Disco music playing in the background, rather than holiday vibes, but not always the original artists. Envision covers of disco **Our server told us that we could not order appetizers in advance of placing our dinner order because they "were very busy and they weren't doing things that way that night." **After 45 minutes at our table, I was still waiting for my first cocktail **Picture no tablecloth, candle thing on our table was not even lit. Oh, and our table as a combination of two tables, one of which was a half an inch taller than the other and was not close to level **The food took forever, was passable, but for the same price, we could have gone to Gibson's and had excellent service, ambiance, and a memorable meal. This tater tots is a big win for this meal. It's very crispy outside but soft inside (like creamy mashed potato). The come with a spicy mayo sauce which is really good too. Short rib quesadilla: $6, Rating: 4/5 - Love the texture of the tortilla, a little bit chewy. Also come with a mayo sauce but not as good as the spicy one. Lil burger and truffle fries: $6, Rating: 3/5 - Come with a balm size burger, and two truffle fries stick. The burger is alright, the truffle fries is... too dry and hard. My husband graduated with his Masters... and what better place to celebrate than at STK? It started off perfect...found parking at the door. We walked in... to the bar, and the bartender gave my hubby a drink on the house. Wow... spectacular! Ambience and good service... I'm truly impressed! We waited a short period for our guests to arrive and was seated. We ordered appetizers and our main course. We were served bread with blue cheese butter... not bad, plain ...would've been better. Cheesesteak eggrolls... were delicious! Everyone at the table ordered something different. Now, we're batting a 1000... until my $20 side of golden Yukon potatoes arrived. My order was visible burnt... and it was explained that they brown the parmesan cheese... but it was chared. Okay... not happy. Didn't need the explanation, just a replacement. At my request... it was replaced and no parmesan was added on top. The steak was exceptional... very nice cut. It didn't disappoint. We're adults... didn't need any sparklers or cotton candy.
