I understand the appeal: a flashy atmosphere, popular music being DJ'd and fancy eats for a reasonable price. That they accomplish, but I still wasn't wowed by it. With that being said, they do have a legit happy hour menu, and the hours aren't unreasonable (3-6 M-F, with weekend availability). The price point for each dish I ordered wasn't unreasonable, but I do feel that I could have made every appetizer dish that I ordered at home, and better. My favorite was the STK + Frites, as I thought that was the most flavorful and had the nicest presentation. The short rib quesadilla I liked the least, as it was dry. I will say that their drinks are STRONG - I made the mistake of ordering 2, and could only drink one. Not my scene, but wouldn't be opposed at all to going back. read more

Every Christmas Eve, my dad takes our family out for a very special dinner. He never tells us where we are going, we are surprised when we arrive. For Christmas 2021, he chose STK in downtown Chicago. My family all lives in different states, so Christmas Eve is a big deal for us. We take our time to eat, drink, talk and open gifts. We usually stay for a good couple of hours at the restaurant's that we choose. Upon arrival to STK, we all were delighted to see the location! However, that quickly changed. We got a lot of grief about putting a mask on a small child, who has sensory issues. I understand that masks are required, but they are removed once at the table. There were plenty of people at the bar without masks, standing and talking, so the fuss over a small child to walk to the table was a bit uncalled for. Also, my mom was standing near the host desk while this was taking place and she overhead the staff state how big of a problem our table was going to be. Extremely unprofessional and rude. We were led to our table after the child mask debate and there was club music bumping loud. I get that this is the vibe of STK, but 6pm on Christmas Eve could have had something a bit more classy perhaps? Another huge turn off. Cut to our table. Our waitress stressed that we have to order everything at once, appetizers, mains, etc. We did not understand the rush. We ordered cocktails. I was really impressed by the STK carved into their ice cubes. One plus for them! We enjoyed our cocktails and our waitress came again to rush us to order. Confused, I told her that we usually take our time during our annual Christmas Eve dinner, so we can enjoy each other's company. It was then that the waitress told us about STK's 90 minute table limit. This was the first time all of us heard this. We were shocked. My dad stated that when he called to make the reservation, no one informed him of the time limit. They brought the manager over so we could explain the predicament. We asked if we could have double the time limit, since no one informed us and even asked to sit outside, so they could use the main tables. There was no budging at all. I understand that the restaurant was pressured to put this time limit on tables. However, what was not ok is the fact that no one told my dad this when he called to reserve our table. The manager stated this information is on their website, however, we scoured the website while this was happening and we could not find the information about 90 minute limit anywhere. When we stated this fact to the staff they changed the story to say the disclosure is on "open table." However, my dad did not reserve through open table, instead he did by telephone. Why put a disclaimer on an application that not all customers will use? In conclusion, since no one informed us of the time limit until we were already having cocktails, we really wished the restaurant could have been more flexible with us, even since we offered to sit outside. Nope. We were ready to spend a nice evening at STK and drop a good amount of money. Due to the inflexibility, the misinformation and the host staff talking about us behind our backs, we quickly left and found another establishment nearby to enjoy Christmas Eve dinner at. The other establishment treated us with so much kindness, and let us stay as long as we wanted. STK almost ruined our Christmas Eve, how sad is that? Due to this awful experience, I would not suggest STK to anyone. Specifically at this location in River North Chicago. read more

Made a reservation for three the morning of. When we arrived it was approx 20 min before we were seated. We were seated and drink orders were taken. We decided to skip on the appetizer and go straight to the main course. We all ordered a steak. The NY strip, cowgirl ribeye and the Spinallis. The steaks were fantastic but we waiting quite awhile for them to come out. We also ran out of drinks about 15 min into the hour wait. We were finally refilled by a different waiter. Definitely zero complaints on the dinner. Steaks were cooked to our request, the creamy matched potatoes were amazing as was the Mac and cheese. We ended a little over $400 for the three of us and we didn't drink alcohol. Gotta love Chicago:) read more

Whenever you dine at any STK location, you can always expect a great steak with a side of hip and trendy, and this Chicago location definitely lives up to that reputation. STK is always a bit pricey, but ambiance makes it the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion, or a safe option if you're just not feeling adventurous enough to explore Chicago's many amazing dining options. The location is super convenient for anyone staying across the street at Kinzie Hotel. read more

People were everywhere-It's loud like a club scene with people loosely standing around the bar being annoying. I actually had to change my seat. After that foolishness, normalcy set in; Mark was a very nice and attentive server and this place knows the 'real meaning' of medium well, the 28oz porterhouse was perfect. The unique flavor of the complimentary blue cheese buttered bread is a nice treat. The ambience is very pretty, almost dejavú, though most steakhouses look like this, lol. The lobster Mac was a little watery I'd prefer it thicker and cheesier, non-the-less it was tasty. Dessert, bag of donuts...meh. There are some next level options here (out of my league); however, I look forward to returning for happy hour, the Friday night scene is just too much for me. Or better yet maybe I can request to be in the overflow room, it seems more peaceful with an additional bar. Thanks for recognizing first responders and teachers this holiday weekend! read more

Makinley was amazing tonight! Great food and great service! Thanks for making our visit to STK memorable!

Horrible experience. The food was sub par for it to cost so much. The waiter was not pleasant and I believe because he had a guaranteed tip he didn't care about us. We had to take back 2 plates because it wasn't cook to the right temperature. Instead of maybe giving a discount for them eating after our dinner party the bill was charged twice for each plate and the showed a kitchen comp but all they were doing was fixing their mistake. It was my daughter's 18th birthday and they could not do anything special. I will not be going back. Not worth the cost. read more

People, come check this place out, ask for Monae!!! Tell her "Tracy" sent you!! We have one of these in Phoenix, and this one is top tier!!! Ambiance is kicking, food is on point, options are abundant. The service is quick, yet not rushed. The live DJ on a Saturday night keeps you chair dancing, or booth dancing in our experience. Drinks, on point! Will definitely come here again when in Chicago!!! read more

What's the since of making a reservation? The process was unorganized. I been waiting a hour to be call . This alone. I Today was Mother day Brunch special! It was awful. My son and I drank our beverage. The food was rush. My food was over cooked. My waitress was rushing. I felt so bad for her. Another guest left her session. And she yelled out. This restaurant is a horrible place to eat. The food is terrible and they need to move out of Chicago! I had some shrimp scampi (it was more like spaghetti with shrimp on top with red sauce) it had no flavor AT ALL! My whole party was not pleased with their meal. And they over charged me 300.00. It been a month and I'm still waiting for my refund. This is ridiculous! Don't be fooled by the ambience! The food here is garbage (trust me) I'm not leaving this review because they over charged me, the food is no good. read more

It was our first time here. We made reservations for 7pm and had to wait an additional 30 minutes to be seated. Once seated we had to wait at least 15-20 minutes for our server. The wait for drinks was over 20 minutes, our appetizers came out before we got our beverages. Our server was great and very attentive once everything was flowing. I'm all for an upbeat house music vibe but it was way too loud in there for a "fancy steakhouse". We practically had to yell at each other to hear anything. I would not recommend coming here if you want a nice romantic evening. However the food was good . The steak was kind of mid though, there's definitely better options out there. The Brussels sprouts were my favorite very flavorful. Mashed potatoes were just okay, they could've had more flavor. We had a party of 6 and the bill was $700. They also charged me $2 per olive for my dirty martini which is damn near robbery. Absolutely ridiculous. Don't waste your time. read more

Updated review: I was double charged on my credit card, I contacted the restaurant 3 times in the span of 2 weeks and each time I was told the issue would be addressed quickly and heard nothing back from them. Buyer beware, save your receipts, review updated to 1 star for the terrible customer service all around Original review: To be fair, I went during their Labor Day sale so it's unclear if this is how it always is or if they were just busy from the sale. Also it was kind of them to offer a great sale for teachers and healthcare workers which I can't say any other steakhouse has done, and they included all healthcare workers which is also not something everyone does. For food quality I would give 5 stars but the ambiance and service had some issues, considering they didn't know we were there for the sale until we went to pay. I really think they were overwhelmed but because I've never been there before I don't have a comparison so I can't say for sure what it is like on another day. If I were to go back and it be different, I'd likely change my review and attribute the negatives to the sale. We got the NY strip, lobster Mac, Brussels sprouts which were all absolutely amazing and I have no negative comments to write about that. They also box up your meals for you at the end and put them in a nice bag. However, music was pretty loud, as were patrons since we were packed into small tables which I assume is not their standard. We were unfortunately seated in the bar area so I didn't get to see the rest of the restaurant but the parts I could see from a distance looked very nice. It was hot in the room and they had a portable air conditioner going but we were periodically a bit uncomfortable. When I was served food I had to wait about 7 minutes to actually be given cutlery and it took a long time for us to re-order drinks, the servers all seemed pretty overwhelmed but were very nice and did immediately attend to things once we were able to get their attention. We sat so close to other tables we could very clearly hear their conversations which was a bit awkward, and there were a lot more children than I expected for a nice steakhouse but perhaps that's because of the weekend it was. Overall it is a nice place and complete kudos to the chefs because the food did not disappoint, but I would say if you're going during an event, do be prepared that it's going to be packed. Perhaps if you want a more private evening just be willing to pay the full price. read more

My family and I visited the Chicago location today 10/18/25 for a celebration. The server was arrogant and rude acting as though we were a bother to him. Service was very slow, taking over an hour to receive our main dishes. We received food that we did not order and some of the dishes were cold. We spoke with the manager who was equally nonchalant and showed no interest in our concerns. We then had to ask them to remove the food that we didn't ask for from our bill. I will echo this poor service across every platform that I can so that it will give others pause and not visit the establishment. read more

Best Steakhouse I've been to. Not your Dad's steakhouse, more or a club feel, really fun. I recommend going here before you go out. They have a DJ to get the party started and they even give out shots while you're waiting for your table. The food is delicious, it's pricey but well worth it to me. The drinks are even better, they have a full bar so they can make whatever you want. Great service like most steak houses. Highly recommend this place if you want a turn up vibe with good food and drinks. read more

If you don't want to stand outside sweating for 40 mins after your reservation time, eat dinner at midnight when your reservation was done 9 pm or eat dry filet, undercooked Brussel sprouts and dry bread I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Our poor server was so sweet and timid I felt bad complaining. This restaurant is extremely sexy but will definitely stress you out and ruin your date night. While the bread looks extremely delicious and makes your mouth water just looking at it, it's extremely dry. Almost like they made it out of coconut flour. Our filet was slightly over cooked and dry. Definitely needs sauces to get it down. Our Brussel sprouts were undercooked even after asking our server to have them Cooked longer. Save your money and the headache and head to maple & ash, Gibsons Italia, Blvd or trulucks. read more

15 of us (including two toddlers and a 7-year-old) spent $2300 and 3 /12 hours here, without ordering alcohol or any of the expensive entrees. If the price and duration were half, we could call our family Easter diner merely OK. Instead, it was memorable for slow service and lots of food that we had to send back (including the 7-year-old's small steak). It took the staff half an hour and a couple of reminders to bring a menu to the last guest to arrive and then another 40 minutes to serve her. My wife's maple salmon was so hard she had to use a steak knife, and asked for a redo, which took almost an hour. Since it was Easter, they did not make Happy Hour specials available. They ran out of lemonade after the first round. The bill totaled $1960 without a tip, As soon as she brought the check, our waitress asked our group three times to decide how much of a tip we would leave. Our family's unanimous opinion was "never again". read more

Never have I had a meal so disgusting. First and foremost the service was so ridiculously poor. We waited for our meal for over an hour and a half, and when it got to us, it was oily, hard, and disgusting. When I complained politely to the manager, he asked what we can do and as it was one of my friends birthday, he offered to bring a cheap nasty birthday cake, and we did not want that however, he ended up bringing their cloud specialty dish on the house, which I guess was nice?? But we still had to pay our full bill?? on top of this we noted that we not only had an allergy at the table (then the meal was brought with Said allergen on the plate) but we also disclaimed that we had someone who did not consume alcohol and then the waitress proceeded to pour an orange liquor on top of the entire dessert?? another odd thing, when we first got there, she poured two out of five of our waters and the didn't come back for another 15 minutes. So I half the table was thirsty and half the table had their throat coated. In the end, you could not pay me to return to the STK in Chicago, New York, DC, you name it. read more

Spacious restaurant and decorated with elevated pieces. It definitely feels luxurious at this restaurant. We had reservations at 8 pm and arrived a few mins before 8. They said it was going to be 2 mins. A few mins turned into 15 mins. When we went up to ask about our table they said they called us. We were literally standing right in front of the hostess. I'm not sure how we missed our name WHEN WE'RE RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEIR FACE! There was one girl and a guy seating tables. The guy was cleared when calling out people name and the number of people on party however, the girl wasn't loud enough. I think there was some miscommunication with the person checked us in and the people seating the tables. However, our server was wonderful. Very nice and professional. Since it was restaurant week, we ordered off the menu. My husband had the oysters and I got the tuna tartare taco. Oysters were fresh and the tuna taco delicious . I had the skirt steak and it was cooked perfectly medium rare. Mashed potatoes and Mac & cheese side completed the main dish. The apple crumble with the vanilla ice cream to finish off the meal was prefect. read more

Visited STK with a few friends to celebrate our 'Friendship Anniversary' and I wasn't thrilled. Do not get me wrong it was a nice steak house, but there wasn't much that made it stand out from the rest. We had our reservation on an extremely busy Saturday evening. We called ahead of time to ensure there was valet, and which we were told, 'No' however, upon our arrival, there was a huge sign out front that read, 'STK validation'. No big deal. We arrived on time for our reservation and was seated shortly after. The ambiance in the restaurant is stunning, dim lights of course, a well lit bar, huge fixtures from the ceilings and large floral arrangements around the dining room. Beautiful For starters, their cocktails are great. I highly recommend the Spiced Watermelon as well as the Strawberry Cobbler Cocktail. Two guests in our party do not drink alcohol and they were able to make some great mocktails as well! The food was good. Again nothing extremely out of the ordinary but good to eat and fellowship with friends. I ordered the Maple Rubbed Salmon, Mashed Potatoes, and Brussels Sprouts. I wouldn't recommend the Salmon however, the Brussels sprouts were amazing. Outside of the drinks, the biggest star of the show for me was the complimentary bread (LOL) one was served with a chive and onion like spread on top and wow wow wow. So so good! I would come back for that bread and the Strawberry Cobbler cocktail alone. While I wasn't blown away by the food, the ambiance was great and I would love to come back for their happy hour! read more

First time here and I will not be back any time soon. Party of 7 Reservations 3:00 Left at 7:00! I don't even know where to start. The service was sooo bad and I never spent 3.75 hours in a restaurant! First off there was only 1 server in our section. Longggggg wait times for everything! The pricing doesn't match the service! I expected a lot more from this place! I have had better service at EVERYWHERE!! I have honestly never experienced this, especially downtown Chicago We ordered appetizers and everything came out here and there and we received items we didn't order. Different wait staff kept bringing various things to our table we didn't order. Very unsanitary bringing other people's food ! Why don't they know where to bring the food??? I would not expect this at an upscale restaurant. It seems to me that your staff needs more training. The level of service is NOT there! I understand you are short staffed but that means that ALL hands are on deck!!!! Everyone should be working together to bring the food out in a timely manner . The server not once asked how everything was No refills of drinks offered No refills of water Did not ask if we needed anything else Did not offer dessert We literally had to keep asking him for things that he forgot to bring And every time we asked for something, another 30 minutes goes by. He said his name was Thomas. He was very nice but lacked the skills to be an upscale server. He needs more training! No way this guy should have been alone to handle all these tables !!!! Again, I have NEVER spent 3.75 hours in a restaurant!!! Wasted my whole day ! I had other plans after lunch but by the time I left it was evening ! STK you dropped the ball big time !! I heard so much hype about this place and I was sadly disappointed! This is NOT how I wanted to spend my birthday!! The food was mediocre at best. The shrimp cocktail with jalapeños thrown on ? Huh? No just no . The shrimp cocktail Is good without the jalapeños. The presentation was tacky The Mac and cheese, some of the noodles uncooked. The steak was great! You got that right ! My glass stayed empty after I finished my drink. I can't speak for anyone else's disappointments with their meal. They can write their own review. And to top it off I get a parking ticket that I SHOULD NOT have gotten if the service was prompt! read more

I really try to like this place as I'm a big fan of the STK brand. But the service at the bar is just too horrible for me to enjoy the meal. Like all STK steakhouses across the country, the clientele is young and "cool". But the bartenders and food runners in this location need some help. The bartenders Worrick and Dre were spectacular in their process of helping me find this perfectly crafter cocktail that we enjoyed over and over throughout the night. I lost count after 3. The fresh watermelon slice was such a cute touch and made the drink even more enjoyable. At the table, Daniel and Claire our servers were so patient and knowledgeable about the menu. The customer service was superb. The lobster and lamb were both succulent. We enjoyed the mashed and macaroni as pairings for the ultimate meal experience of the night. Thank you STK! read more

I was in town for a conference and a friend recommended this place because of their happy hour. The happy hour runs from 3-6 pm and you get bites and half-priced drinks. The food prices ranged from $3, 6, or 9 dollars. The overall vibe was quiet when we first arrived but more people arrived during the last hour. The staff was friendly and the drinks were delicious. I tried the French Love or STK version of the French 75 and then I had the margarita. Both were refreshing and made with a good amount of alcohol. Our bartender was nice and made a lot of helpful suggestions. For food, I tried the STK and frites, the tater tots, and the Lil BRG & truffle fries. Yes...I was all out on the meat and potatoes and I regret nothing! All of the food was good and served hot! I found myself full and satisfied. If STK is too pricey for your purse, try the happy hour!
