Seriously one of the best dentist experiences I've ever had. I went in for an extraction with a bone graft, and I was honestly pretty nervous but they made the whole process so much easier. Gabby was so sweet from the second I walked in, and made me feel really comfortable the entire time. Dr. Sharobiem was very gentle, explained everything step by step, and made sure I was okay throughout the procedure. What really stood out to me was that the Dr. Sharobiem even texted me a few hours after my appointment to check on me. That level of care is rare and meant a lot. I am sad to say that, in the last few months, Capital Dental has gone downhill. They are expanding to open new departments, such as a dental academy and a children's branch, so they are always way behind schedule and much more unorganized than they used to be. I have been a patient for twenty years, and in the last month, I have had to reschedule two appointments due to long wait times (30 then 40 mins). Their most qualified and efficient hygienists have retired or moved on. The kiosk check-in system is also faulty and does not always go through to the front desk, so they think you're late or a no-show unless you speak to the receptionist. There is also now a host standing by the kiosks... why? I am disappointed because I pay for PPO just to continue going to CD. I vote for them for Bakersfield's Best every year. And I have referred all of my friends and family to them throughout these years. But I won't be doing that anymore. Will report back if things improve. read more

It's been 4 months, time for a cleaning at Capitol dental. I was called back 5 minutes early from the comfortable waiting area. Toni and Anna were ready for me. Anna took a full set of X-rays before the cleaning began. Toni is fun energetic and very efficient hygienist. Anna has a good mentor to learn from. Doctor Hall came in and carefully examined all my teeth after reviewing my X-rays. I came away with a brighter smile and a clean examination no majors issues. After waiting over 30 minutes, I was asked twice if I wanted to reschedule because the doctors were on lunch and the office was short-staffed. Such a terrible experience with Dr. Afifi and his billing coordinator Mrs. Ballard. Had been working with Dr. Afifi on an extensive treatment plan and finally decided to pull the trigger and have it done. Get to the office for a scheduled appointment and was told, "Oh, doctor reviewed your x-rays and he isn't comfortable doing the extraction, he wants you to make an appointment with a specialist." Mind you, he and Mrs. Ballard had BOTH been in the room as he reviewed multiple X-rays, talked about cost and set up a treatment plan. I had also been seen by the reputable Dr. Casteen who referred me back to Dr. Afifi for these multiple procedures. The lack of communication and professionalism is shocking. Why not contact your patient and let them know the appointment is changing, this wasn't just a filling, it was a tooth extraction. Highly Disappointed and buyer beware! read more

That prepared me very well and decreased my anxiety to zero. She is very conscientious and displayed true care and concern for her patients. I have been going here since 2020 and would go there every 6 months for my check up. I love it . I guess I was only seen by the doctor once in 2020 and all the other times it was just the hygienist doctor. They always said my teeth looked great and I had no cavities. Well i asked to see a doctor to get preventative fillings and they asked why if your teeth look great. Two weeks later I guess I have cavities now all over my teeth . Other than that great office. Tip: make sure to ask for a doctor at least once year or they will just overlook you. read more

Beware of Dr. Jeff McCardell at Capital Dental Group My first two years here were decent. Dr. Jeff McCardell did good dental work, although I noticed early on that he tended to ignore my input and made decisions about my dental plan without much discussion. In year three, things took a major turn. After paying thousands for a re-crowning of a fragile front tooth, the crown broke off in less than a year. That alone was frustrating -- but it got worse. During a separate emergency extraction, I suffered a severe allergic reaction to an epinephrine-based injection -- something clearly documented in my file and known by Dr. McCardell and staff. This reaction was dangerous and could have sent me to the ER, but I stayed home due to the cost and recovered with my wife's help. Not a single apology, call, or acknowledgment from the dentist or office. Although dental nurses/assistance did give apology and showed concern and were well aware of all issues. Later, when I returned (now missing a front tooth), I asked for a temporary, affordable fix. Dr. McCardell recommended a stay plate (a type of partial). I paid cash upfront. It took four visits just to get impressions right -- and even after all that, the appliance never fit. When I asked to speak privately with Dr. McCardell, he showed no concern, offered no apology, ignored the allergy incident entirely, and told me I was simply "wrong" about the stay plate not fitting. I was floored by the lack of empathy or professionalism. After researching the issue, I confirmed that the appliance was in fact made incorrectly. When I called again, I was told to bring it back and that "he'll refund you." No ownership, no fix -- just a refund after wasting time and money. To make things worse, after I successfully disputed the charge through my credit card under the "goods and services" policy, Capital Dental attempted to rebill me -- which could have hurt my credit if I hadn't caught it. I've since moved to a new dentist and am filing formal complaints with the A.D.A. and other regulatory agencies. Most of the staff at Capital Dental are amazing -- kind, helpful, and professional. But my advice is to avoid Dr. McCardell completely. The lack of accountability, compassion, and basic patient care is unacceptable. read more

I recently tried out Capital Dental Group for the first time. I am very torn because I personally was not a fan, but I can see why this place would be great for select people depending on what you look for in a dentist. I am going to take you through some detailed pros and cons to help you decide if this is the right place for you. Pro: 1)appointments are easy to make online or over the phone and move around. Dates are not too far out. 2) I had an amazing hygienist who probably cleaned my teeth more detailed and efficiently than anyone else in years with little to no discomfort despite my teeth being in horrible shape 3) they take a few types of insurance and are very clear about finances before you agree to additional procedures. You sit down with someone to review it all. 4) the whole appointment was fairly quick overall 5) everyone i encountered seemed very nice and easy to interact with or ask questions 6) open on weekends for those who cant take off work for an appointment 7) they have several types of dentistry in the same place so easy to refer people to specialty care/procedures Cons: 1) my xrays were pretty poor quality 2) dentist exam came prior to cleaning with only those poor quality xrays to go off of, which is backwards from everywhere ive ever been in my life. Most dentists like to see the cleaned up version to make important decisions. 3) the waiting room was hectic, full, and chairs uncomfortable. It was hard to find a seat. The place is a bit of a maze to navigate without assistance. 4) The decor/art and wall paint colors of this place were absolutely wild and actually stressed me out just being around, which I don't think I've ever encountered in a medical office of any kind. There were a few areas that just look like they never dealt with when tearing things out and converting or remodeling the building from what it was. 5) I am ALWAYS skeptical when I hit a new dentist office and they immediately recommend a bunch of fillings, which is what happened here. I may need them, but i definitely plan to seek a second opinion. 6) no gum measurements? Those are pretty important. Not sure why they did not do that step. 7) dental assistant and hygienist worked at seperate sides from the dentist, so it seemed a little disconnected and you have to go to different areas and back to the waiting room for different portions of the appointment. There is also delays between service with the xrays to dentist and then between that to the hygienist side, as well as in the chair between assistant and hygienist. It was just awkward, but beyond that it means very little oversight for the assistant and hygienist..they work pretty much independently. 8) dentist side is oversized rooms. Hygienist side is tiny little areas you barely fit in, no privacy, and you can hear everyone's business, the office gossip, and whatever music they are listening to that day. My day the music was a little inappropriate for young kids and professional settings, so was the side conversations they didnt think I could hear. Overall, this may be a good fit for you if you are an adult with a busy schedule who likes to keep it simple and clear with polite service who probably takes your insurance whatever it may be. It feels a lot like an assembly line approach to dentistry. If you are seeking a comfortable, calming experience with a more personalized experience and care, I would recommend trying somewhere else. It doesn't make this a bad place that I don't like it, it just wasn't what I am used to or looking for overall in a long term dentist but it got the job done. read more

Dr. Chasteen is a pompous jerk that is rude and does not listen. He treated his assistant like a child, even yelling down the hall "chop chop" at her. Then instead of fixing the implant crown properly, he glued it on, BACKWARDS! He did not even attempt to fit the crown to find the proper fit. I would give a 0 if it was offered. Let's start with I have epilepsy and it destroyed my teeth. So on a recommendation, went to Dr Casteen aka ( Chip). That's what he told me to call him. So first he did my bottom teeth. I was told I would have my teeth in 4 months. Unfortunately they never were done until 7 months and they didn't fit. So what did they do. They convinced a mentally disabled woman to now have her bottom teeth done because they were almost as bad as the bottom. So they did the operation. Now remember my bottom teeth still don't fit. Then after the surgery it took over 5 days for thr swelling in my face to go down. I was told I would have all my teeth in 4 months. That was a joke. It took over 6 months to get my top teeth , but my bottom still never fit. So I go to another appointment after I have both sets of teeth and let them know that they hurt when I eat. The Dr told me that was normal. What? Then he says he can fix it, tells me to follow him. We go into his office and he says he can fix the problem with these other teeth. I didn't understand. He really wasn't explaining what it meant. Then he takes me to the money girl and they proceed to tell me that they want 18,000 more from me. I told them I didn't understand. I immediately called my husband and he rushed in and started asking questions. Now if you're saying to yourself, why wasn't her husband with her all the time. Because I am trying to be independent. Everyone's tone immediately changed. The Dr Dr looked at my husband and said she understood everything, then he walked out. So we wanted you to know why it was $18,000 more when I had already paid $32,000. Why would it cost so much when you weren't doing my whole mouth. Oh and 1 day after 1 day after my last implant surgery, one of my posts fell out. I was told to bring it in. They took it. Then proceeded to tell me that I really didn't need it. But I needed it when you put it in. So I asked for a refund for the cost of the post which was $1800. They told me they don't do that. I live on a fixed income. He knew that when he decided to not give me a refund. I would never recommend him. He is a millionaire who doesn't even live here. He lives in everyday in HIS own plane. Great guy. Blondie never talk politics in the office. You shouldn't call people stupid about their choices. Not nice. Do not go here you have been warned. read more

I recently relocated back to Bakersfield and met Esmeralda when she was just getting off work. She shared with me what an amazing dentist office she worked at. I told her about my dental anxiety and she told me not to worry that Dr. McCardle was the best. And you know what...she was right!!! I went and saw him today and he put my mind at ease. He knew exactly what he was talking about and gave me several options when dealing with my anxiety. I will definitely spread the word to those I know looking for a dentist they can trust. Most likely, the best dental clinic in Kern County. I've accompanied someone with severe dental problems many times to this location and in general, they've been very satisfied. Most staff members are welcoming and professional. The modern office layout with minimal barriers provides exceptional patient movement through reception, exam rooms, restrooms and treatment areas. A key highlight of this office is that they're open with Dentists on duty Saturdays and Sundays. This is practically unheard of in the dental field. When you tell them no you don't want something, they co heck with your insurance anyways and won't let it go. We turned this into your insurance you HAVE to get it done.
