I have been to Stomp's twice now, and both times it was great. The food was great, the service was friendly and prompt and the place is just cool. It's not trying to be something that it isn't. It's a simple place with great burgers and a great staff of people. I hear there is a rivalry between this place and Tookie's. I don't see how. Tookie's is an absolute armpit of a place. The staff sucks and the food sucks. If the owner of Tookie's is a bit jealous, he (she) damn sure should be. They should go to Stomp's, have a meal and take lots of notes. Yesterday my wife and 8 year old went to STOMPS about 5:15 p.m. during rush hour. The place was clean and 3 other tables in the whole restaurant. My wife and I decided to spilt a Cheese Burger & Thick Onion Rings. My daughter ordered a Hot Dog with chili on the side. Waitress was very attentive and brought our drinks and took the order. Mind you the place was not busy at all. When we got our orders I saw that our burger was soggy and the onion rings were okay had the batter not been falling from all of them. Our last visit was about a year and a half and back then we got the BEST burgers, but now for some reason it okay. I wonder if someone just not paying attention or if someone does not bother to check for consistency. A lot restaurants when they first open up have very god food because the owner is on top of things and makes sure it is consistent. My husband and I made a lunch stop today at Stomp's. Wish we had not! Our experience. . . The floor was buckled. . . The Torcheezees (fried corn Tortilias with cheese on top)were over cooked and they were curled up on the sides, not flat like they typically have been served. Also we were supposed to receive red salsa and a container of chopped jalapeños, but we only received the salsa. My husband asked for our jalepenos , the waitress brought us one container of sliced jalapeños, not chopped how they usually are presented. After being there for one hour we finally received our burgers. I had ordered the Jezebel burger. Today the burger was dry and thin. We were wondering what has happened to Stomp's? We have frequented this restaurant. We know that the owners have changed from the original owners. Have they changed hands again? Great food. Unfortunately, it took almost an hour for our food to arrive. They seemed WAY understaffed, especially for a Saturday. Our waitress kept saying "I'll see you guys again in a bit!" but then we would have to wait 20 minutes or so before we would see any staff. I had to initially ask for water water twice, for the first refill on drinks, I had to walk to the front. The second time, I had to ask the gentleman who brought our food out...and it never came. There was no silverware when food was delivered and one of the food items was incorrect. New customers made comments about having nowhere to sit due to the lack of bussing at 4 tables. I've been coming to Stomp's for years and can honestly say that it deserves the 5 stars. The service is great, the food is delicious and the prices are very fair, especially when you consider the portions. I've gotten a few different burgers now and each of them has been super yummy and huge, though a bit greasy. If you've been to Tookie's, the burgers are pretty much the same (don't they share an owner or something?). The meat is seasoned really well and kind of crispy around the edges, and pretty thick. They have a lot of interesting burger choices, too. My boyfriend likes to get the Frito Bean-dito. The fries are good, the sweet tea is delicious, the atmosphere is great... Went there kinda late. Server was really nice and helpful. Place was a dump though food and trash under all the stalls. Got my food and was eating it and a giant roach was crawling around under the table near me. Had to keep looking out for it while i ate. This small Hamburger place was exactly how it was described to me by other re- tirees. A no-nonsense good place to eat, with moderate to good service, good food, a little more expensive than your regular fast food places, but with a serving that matches the price. Furniture matched the business, was well cleaned. The interior of the building was all clean, BUT matched the material that was used for construction. We've been there twice, and can not complain about either original service, or checking to see that we had everything we needed, including refills. When we want a really good burger, and want to get out of the house for a little while, We'll be returning. We gpt there right after opening both times, and for that early, Business looked pretty good. I *really* have to wonder about these negative reviews. We are from San Antonio (husband working in Webster) & we ate at Stomp's a lot when I was living there & every time the dogs & I come to visit. I am *extremely* picky about meat. I won't eat hamburgers *anywhere* & don't even enjoy my own (from meat that I grind, myself) all that much. My GOSH, these are good hamburgers!! The first few times we went to Stomps the food was about perfect. More or less as good as a handmade burger can be expected. I've had a few "just plain cheeseburgers" and my wife only orders the bean burger, all were great. We told everyone we knew how darn good Stomps was and swore off every burger this side of the loop including Tookie's... then the reports came back from family and others. They had bad experiences. I'm sad to agree that Stomps is hit or miss! I read the reviews that said as much. Apparently this has been going on for years. For my family, the short honeymoon came to a jolting halt. There's an obvious management problem. No excuse. Especially after a few years. There should be a system. The kitchen? The same process and quality of food regardless of the cook on duty. The house, restrooms, tables should be clean, the parking lot free of debris, grease trap shouldn't smell like a teenaged prankster dropped a stink bomb. No excuses. It's always "sorry we have a new cook." No, Stomps has had the same cooks since they opened. Dr. Jeckle & Mr. Hyde! In addition to the kitchen, Jeckle & Hyde also manage the menu, the wait staff, the house keeping, the restrooms, parking lot and the grease trap. All of it hit or miss. I almost feel a little guilty being so harsh. Almost. But really Stomps should feel guilty. Everyone can have a bad day. Things happen in people's lives that are catastrophic and for a time the best they can do is hang on. I can be sympathetic to a part time cook over run during a rush with no back up. But the management by this point should have a "plan B" worked out! When a super passionate foodie and amateur chef like myself begins to brag, boast, recommend and frequent your restaurant. Only to see it take a re-occurring nose-dive... that breaks my heart. I feel like weeping. I see another American dream with potential flushing down the toilet. We were going out for a rare family lunch. We almost never go out because it's expensive and because myself and the circle "I run in" cook better than 95% of the possible restaurants within the state. My family choose to go to Stomps as our special place because of their proven potential? They messed that up. We waited an hour, the order gets messed up, the 2nd order gets messed up, my chili burger had no chili on it. But Mr. Hyde sort of brushed some chili pan drippings over the bun. The onion rings were cold and if not soggy just blah. They had been waiting for almost as long as us. My 6 year old daughter's, kid sized bean burger was close to burnt. The bun was rock hard and stale. This is no mistake. Mr. Hyde stuck his hand into a plastic bag and touched a rock hard, stale burger bun and decided to feed it to a customer. We didn't eat half our food and just left disappointed. Me angry enough to fight but? No excuse for that disrespect. A 6 year old Stomps fan! Because Mr. Hyde was too lazy and inconsiderate of his youngest customers to think they would notice. That was the final for me. Our little girls Stomps. We introduced her to burgers here... because we do not eat fast food. When I touched that rock hard, stale bun... that did it! That tells me a lot about the attitude in the kitchen. If you were an SW Tookie's fan and devastated by their closure due to Hurricane Ike, then you will absolutely love Stomps. They offer the same lineup of burgers and sides dishes plus a few of their own and delicious desserts. We travel almost 70 miles to eat there and are never disappointed. Every item we have ordered has been scrumptious and cooked exactly as ordered. Everyone else always orders burgers - and raves over them - but I get Stompadas and Torcheezees as my main course because I like lighter fare. I'm stumped by the continuing popularity of Stomps' and their business survival. Alright, its a slightly old review, but I don't believe its any less relevant.The girlfriend and I spent Mothers' Day at her family's house enjoying a home cooked meal. On the journey back, we decided to stop here, because she heard good things ( before I was yelping). She wanted a mushroom burger, whereas I was happy to have maybe some onion rings and a soft drink. The girl ordered hers with a side of onion rings, and we had a couple of soft drinks. She specifically said a whole wheat bun. We got the drinks but waited an hour (and I timed it) for food that should have taken 20 minutes at best. Guess what- no whole wheat bun! I was more than ready to leave, but she insisted on sending it back, and we waited another 15 minutes. Absolutely insulting; three other parties arrived after we did were served and 2 had left, while we waited for over an hour for a single order. When you're that angry, nothing tastes good. On the way out after leaving no tip we complained to the cashier, and she didn't offer to get the manager. They comped the drinks-big whoop! Totally insulting; couldn't be more insulting if they offered to give us a fried porcupine and call it a meat salad.Going there was an exercise in sado-masochism, so unless you're into that, avoid! The burgers were bland even though we ordered the "spicy" Outlaw there was no spice or heat to the burger at all. I know they forgot that they advertise toasted buns since ours had to have come straight from the package. The Half and Half of onion rings and fries was almost a laughable plate. Four cold greasy rings and 11 french fries for almost $3.50?? The waitress did replace the cold ones for hot fresh ones and we scored big time with one extra fry now giving us 12 for the order.
