The service was great. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. They had music and I think transformer and iron man characters there, which is different but cool. Now the food...fantastic. Definitely an experience. I've been a couple of times, and no matter how many times I go I still feel mildly overwhelmed. It could partially be due to the uncomfortable singing, the loud sizzling, or my deeply rooted fear of making mistakes, but I've never really been disappointed with the food. I mean you literally get to choose what to eat. I'm a big fan of large portions, I never leave this place without putting on at least 20 lbs. Stone Age offers both kbbq and hot por. I personally wouldn't recommend the hotpot. It may be slightly cheaper, but it clear that Korean bbq is the real star of the show. If you've got money to spend, I would recommend. The restaurant was bright, we were immediately seated. Table was clean, service was great and the spaces were constantly being cleaned. We decided on the Hot Pot option because it was the only vegetarian choice. My husband got the BBQ and choose chicken. I loved that this place could accommodate our varying food preferences. I also thought it was super cool that each person was able to choose their own base. A note: you cannot change your broth once you get it. We got spicy and wooo-wee! Our server tried to bring me some vegetarian broth to help dilute it but it was still just too much. That said, it was delicious! We choose several veggies to go along with our soup. There are only a few noodle options and unfortunately, I overcooked my udon noodles and they weren't too tasty. Due to my experience going to tons of kbbq in Orange County since I live there, this restaurant is in my top 5 Kbbqs (in the 30$ range) and I cannot wait to come back to Alabama. Of course there aren't a lot of Koreans eating here since this isn't a Korean populated place to begin with but I am Vietnamese and my boyfriend is Korean and we had our fair share of kbbq meats. I recommend the dinner menu which consists of my favorite item - the STONE AGE STEAK. My second favorite item was the GALBI (SHORT RIB). I originally thought they got the short rib from Costco but I was wrong. their short rib was more tender than the short rib we got from Costco. ( if you like sweet, I recommend this ) If you want a very tender meat, get the FILET MIGNON. (My third favorite) If you want a more flavorful meat but less tender, get the RIB EYE. Of course, if you get the thin meat, of course it won't be as flavorful but I recommend pairing it with ssamjang (should be one of the dipping sauces they give you). I've been here a a few times. Last night was the absolute worst (I thought the last time couldn't get any worse). We arrive and the phone was ringing. The hostess became 100% confused. She didn't want to answer the phone but watched it ring for 3 minutes before sitting us. When we got to the table there were dishes from whoever sat they before us, so we were moved to another table. We sat down and the waitress didn't come see us for a good ten minutes. Mind you there are only maybe 6 tables filled in the entire place. We placed our drink order and actual order at the same time when she did come to the table. The drinks took 5-10 minutes to get. The food came out shortly after. The food was great and cooked to perfection... However, our waitress never returned to the table. We didn't ever receive additional sides or more meat. We were there for about an hour and twenty minutes. Our 18 month old started getting crabby, as we didn't have any other food to feed her... Once the kid started to get upset the waitress finally returned to our table and I asked for the check. I paid $80 for 2 pieces of meat and a few sides. Never even got a drink refill didn't get the sauces refilled until the meat was gone. The place is well decorated and they have K-pop music videos playing on a loop. Came here on a Thursday night, and I was sat down right away. There was a decent crowd in the restaurant at that time, but the service was prompt, and I was greeted quickly. It's worth noting that every interaction with the staff was warm and friendly. On to the food :) To start with, they bring out a small portion of a few sides and let you pick 3 more as part of your meal. I went with a small order of the Bi Bim Bop and both types of kimchii, and for my meat, I went with spicy pork belly. It was delicious. My second and third meat were seasoned steak and ribeye. They were both good, although seasoned steak was my favorite. Ambiance sucked! Booth seating was uncomfortable, then to top it off the only visual we had was teenage Korean girl bands dancing and singing in music videos on a huge screen. This was our first time (and last) there and had family with us from out of state. The panchan they do give you is way salty. So bad I sent some back to save myself my the embarrassment of Korean representation of food. The grills are not cleaned. Fat is clearly been caked on to the burners which can result in meat tasting like gas and metal. They don't know oil or suggest brisket as the first items so the grills don't stick. Then after grilling they don't replace the grill pans until you ask. So you can get lots of burnt bits on your meat which can ruin your food. Taste wise... not bad... but not any recipe you can't find online. Portion wise... for a table of 5 they gave portion size of 1. I have nothing good to say about this place. NOT ONE THING. Ridiculously uncomfortable seating!! We were told how much the all you can eat bbq or hot pot would be per person. And despite there being three of us, we were told we were only "allowed" to order two proteins at a time and only three sides. In front of us were three tiny plates - each with only two to three pieces of various pickled veggies. They looked as if they had been left behind by the people who sat before us. It was incredibly off-putting. It made me question immediately the choice I had made on my family's behalf to come to this place. I mean... WERE these tiny mostly empty plates left behind from another diner????! Where they??? It felt stingy and controlling. As if we were being punished or not trusted. I asked why the portions were so tiny to be told they were just small tastes. We ate them and were never asked if we wanted more. What purpose did they serve? One contained two slices of jalapeño and about five pieces of what looked like shaved garlic. ??? On the table was a bucket with a couple sets of metal chopsticks - which, despite my extremely precise abilities, were far too slippery to pick up anything. There were only a couple forks and no knives whatsoever which, come to find out were much needed with the tough cuts of meat we would be served. We opted for spicy pork and beef bulgogi to start, kimchi, bibimbap, and a salad. I realized I was only "allowed" to order three "sides" and asked them to make an exception so I could get us all a side of rice. We were "allowed" to do so. Then the food came. The salad. Disgusting. Completely drenched in what was a ratio of about 80 percent sesame oil and maybe 2 percent rice wine vinegar. The rest I can only decipher as water. Some sort of red powder was sprinkled on top of the haphazardly "cut" lettuce. No. Toooo much sesame oil. No. Just no. I have NEVER in my 52 years of life EVER described kimchi as FLAVORLESS until NOW. If kimchi is the test of how good a Korean restaurant is, this one should be shut down immediately! Watery, no spice whatsoever! WATERY kimchi?? Who knew there was such a thing?!! WTF was I eating!??!! Totally unacceptable. And disgusting. Bibimbap WHAT?! Lukewarm rice with random cold veggies in a bowl. Drenched in a mysterious red sticky sauce. What was I supposed to do with this?? It may have been okay if it had been stir fried... but when I asked, that was not recommended to do on the cook surface. I mixed it up in the bowl as instructed and tasted what can only be described as a cold"ish" rice and veggie salad with some strange sticky sauce that was the only thing at this table that had a bit of a kick. Stringy pork, stringy beef with way too much sweetness in the sauce that caused the meat to burn quickly if I didn't move it constantly. Moving it constantly made any semblance of meat fall apart so that all that was left were stringy bits of charred flesh that were inedible. For our next two "allowable" proteins I chose the safe option - chicken - lemon chicken to be precise. And spicy - wait for it - pork belly (a much sought after protein in most places). The pork belly was more like thin strips of bacon, DRENCHED in a red pepper sauce with NO flavor, NO spice that again, had so much sweetness to it that it BURNED on the grill top. The lemon chicken was three thin sliced chicken thighs and to be honest was the best bite of the night. Nothing special or Korean about it. It tasted like the lemon pepper seasoning I could get at any grocery store. I ordered another individual rice, and something I figured was the easiest to get Right- "dumplings". Not here. They were deep fried wontons. NOT dumplings! Greasy with tough - as opposed to crispy - wonton skins. Hard to bite and chew and dripping with grease. The dipping sauce did not compliment the flavors at all. Another EPIC fail. The bill couldn't arrive fast enough. $150 for three people for some of the most disappointing food I have had for many, many years. This made me even more angry thinking of what I could've gotten anywhere else in the entire city of Huntsville for this price. Absolutely unacceptable!!! I was curious... and looked at the menu to see if I had missed something.... ANYTHING. There were no other options, no other ways to order beside the all you can eat. On the menu were pictured many great sounding veggies, bok choy, pumpkin, spinach, asparagus etc.... But no explanation how I could've ordered any of them. ??? No meals... no combo plates. WTAF? Are these pics just for show? Where are the veggies?? We've been coming here since they opened and the service has definitely gotten so much better. Their food also has improved but more than anything, it's their friendly staff that keeps us coming back. Were greeted as soon as we walk in the door and a couple of the servers have even remembered us. This is a great date night place for me and my hubs and also a great place to take out of town guests. Typically we do the spicy chicken, Cajun shrimp (which by the way is deveined now thank goodness) and steak. The sides a good and plentiful however the pork dumplings are my favorite. I just wish when they aren't busy maybe shouldn't cook so many of them, because sometimes they aren't fresh/hot and you can tell they just been warmed up. Ambiance is nice but seats are uncomfortable. I've been here 2-3 times and to the Huntsville location once. The difference in quality of food and service is night and day between the two. The Huntsville location is great - no complaints. But after our last visit and the very low quality food, we're done with the Madison location. And that's a shame because we live in Madison. The last visit in November 2023 - the food quality was lower than it's ever been - the meat was stringy and the sides were just ok (or inedible in the case of the kimchi - and I love kimchi usually - here it lacked flavor). The prices for all you can eat $18.99/ person exclude drink. But the portion of meat they give are plenty, so make sure you wont order way too much to the point you cant eat them all because you cant take them home with you and they will charge for the food you cant eat. Just order wisely what you can eat it and order not too many first and see if you can eat them all, if you still hungry then you still can order more. And it best not to waste any food either. First time eating at this Stone Age BBQ. Atmosphere is very bright and cheerful with video graphics all over. We were greeted promptly by a personable young man and although the restaurant was packed the wait was short. The manager also greeted us to tell us our table was being readied. Our server Asia was informative , attentive and cheerful. We ordered the tenderloin/filet which was incredibly tender and bulgogi which had a great flavor. Sorry, too busy eating to take pix, but this is our new "go to" for my wife and me. First visit, we dined on one burner and had a great chicken and steak meal. Next trip was with friends so both burners came on to feed four adults and four children. Brisket was good as was the filet. The Stone Age steak and beef bulgogi were off the chart excellent. Everyone loves the dumplings and we got fries for the kids (didn't see them on the menu, so I asked). Waiter also handed me their handy 'to go' menu. Ordered the Stone Age steak and beef bulgogi to go along with bibimbob. Portions were huge and easily enough for two people. To go orders come with veg, dumplings, and a choice of fried or steamed rice. In hindsight, I miss the pickled radish that you get when you dine in, but all-in-all these folks have my attention. Only downside is they sat us next to other people and we didn't have our own private booth but regardless of that the food and boba teas were amazing.
