Such a cute coffee shop with a calm, inviting ambiance. There's seating room to relax and enjoy while working or studying. The barista was so sweet and took care in crafting my drink. It was nice to be able to add my own half-and-half and control the calories in the drink. Coffee tasted great and will be back the next time I'm in the Chattanooga area! read more

This place was recommended to me by several people, and when I strolled along Frazier St and spotted the "People Love Us On Yelp!" sticker, it was a no-brainer to stop in for coffee and more. NPWH for sure, and the girl behind the counter was eager to describe lunch and breakfast items she recommended (and she told me breakfast is served all day). My café au lait was delicious. Free Wi-Fi is another reason I stopped in, as I do not have it in my new digs and am right now relying on nearby spots to get my online needs met. Cozy chairs and sofas, plus a small number of tables. I was thrilled to find a few indie coffee shops during my visit to Chattanooga. On a gorgeous January day that was 35 degrees warmer than the NYC I left, Stone Cup's back patio doors were open, looking out over the throngs of people enjoying the weather in the park below. I'm happy to report that people watching was in full effect, and the atmosphere was relaxed. The baristas were friendly. I had an Americano which was okay, but on the weak side because it was too big, i.e. there was too much water. Another time, another drink, and I'm sure it would have been fine. I'm only not giving this place five stars because I've only been there once. This place is a great find for those who are looking for a cozy, quiet (just during weekdays, they tell me), free-wifi area. There's a couple couches, plenty of tables, a high counter (high chairs) with plenty of outlets, a small bar and a patio with a wonderful view of the bridge. Garrett the Carrot is an awesome barista, and the dirty chai is quite delicious. I would have liked to pay $1-2 less for my drink (it was almost 5), but the price won't keep me from coming back here. #update: I went again today. The turtle mocha is a must have! read more

Cute coffee shop near the walking bridge. The staff is friendly/helpful and they have creative specialty drink items that seem to rotate. I originally wanted a London fog but they were out of Earl Grey tea. They were also out of chai so I was a little disappointed as I prefer tea over coffee. I got a rotating item, a honey lavender latte, and enjoyed it. It was not too sweet and it did taste like lavender without being overpowering. The view was great and there is indoor and outdoor seating. Would definitely go again. read more

Has a lot of potential if it weren't for the staff of young people who don't care a hoot about customer service or doing their jobs. We sat for 20 minutes waiting on a chicken salad wrap and a bowl of yogurt - told the order was lost and he was "working on it." Another 10 minutes and told it would be "a few second." Another 5 brought the food which was mediocre. No apology, no follow up, nobody came around to the table. I requested and a refund but they stared at me dumbfounded. Friendly staff and clean atmosphere. Unique decor and laid back, hip vibe. They put 2 shots in a small latte instead of charging for an extra shot (1 is never enough), which was super cool. But the Mocha was just "okay". The reason for only 3 stars is because I confirmed with the cashier before ordering a panini that the sandwich was an authentic panini style made with a panini press. She assured me it was so I ordered it with no greens, add bacon. The cook came out a couple minutes after the cashier called my order in *correctly* (so it wasn't her fault) and said they were out of the stoneground mustard that comes on the sandwich. No big deal (it was kind of a big deal but things work out that way sometimes). I take it to go and get to my destination to find it's not a panini at all. It's a sandwich with bread toasted in a toaster. And they put greens on it, including sprouts which I can't eat at all due to a compromised immune system. Definitely disappointing. So, maybe their food is good? Give them a shot but I guess the take away is, check your order before you leave if you're ordering to go. read more

I love this coffee shop! The location is great, overlooking Coolidge Park, with plenty of eateries a stone's throw away. I don't usually go fancy with my drinks, normally getting a hot or iced coffee, depending on the weather, but I've never had a bad cup. This was the first coffee place I went to when I first moved here. It was one of the few independent coffee houses here. Stone Cup is a great space. Fantastic views of Coolidge Park and the river and across the river, views of downtown. They have lots of comfy seating inside and outside. I've had small meetings there and larger ones, and the staff is always accommodating. Free Wifi. The coffee is always good. The staff is friendly and when I used to work in the neighborhood, I stopped in all the time to get my morning coffee. They were quick to get you served and on your way. The price of a mocha at this place is about a dollar too high, but the veggie panini I had was awesome. We sat for about 2 hours while we worked on our computers. There weren't very many plugins and most of the seating wasn't ideal for hours of sitting at a laptop, but most people don't do that at coffee shops as much and for as long as we do either. There were some great movie posters and really comfy couches, plenty of them. The people at the counter were a little rude and the "waitress" who brought us our sandwich mumbled something and seemed generally unenthusiastic, but we only had to see them for like a second so, whatever - typical hip coffee shop BS. Free wifi is awesome so.. we'll probably be back but I'll be getting a plain coffee and no food. read more

One of the best breakfast sandwiches in town. If you know me, you know how important this is to me. Stone Cup, with an optimal location for strolling leisurely in some of Chatanooga's more pleasant areas, always has a good cup of coffee and a comfy seat. That comfy seat may be occupied by somebody staring blankly into the screen of a laptop, or by somebody engaged in interesting and passionate conversation, usually with another person (great place to eavesdrop...creeper), but eventually they'll move on and then you can loiter too. They also have a handful of brews on tap, which is always handy if you need to come back down off your caffeine buzz. Great place to hang out! Convenient location, good place to get work done (free wifi, fine speed & consistency). Never a problem to find a seat, but beware if you have a laptop that plugs are rare. Their espresso drinks don't compare to coffee-obsessed places around town, but there are plenty of other options (including booze!). The iced tea was good and unsweetened - always a plus in the South! Staff needs to get on the same page, though - when I bought the tea, the person helping me made a point of mentioning that refills were free. Then when I went back to get my refill from a different staff member, he said it was 50 cents. I know that's not a fortune, but it seems really stingy to charge for refills of (pre-brewed) tea. If you could choose loose-leaf and they brewed it to order, I'd understand, but there's only one option and it just comes from a big jug. The hummus wrap is the only vegan option (besides a bagel), but it was surprisingly good! I would order it again. All in all, what this place lacks in ambiance (Rembrandt's) or coffee quality (Brash), it makes up for in its great location and its view on nice days. read more

Stopped in to try a coffee place I haven't visited before. The coffee shop is at the end of the building when you enter from the street. The atmosphere is very coffee shop, relaxed, places to get comfortable, and this place has a great view as well. The service was acceptable nothing over the top, not overly friendly, very task oriented: order coffee, pay, pick up. I ordered a latte and a lemon poppy seed muffin. The muffin was decent, made in-house, and was tasty. The coffee was pretty good. I would stop in again if I was in the area. read more

I came in with my friends to sit and talk. I purchased a Cubano. I really enjoyed it. The drink had a thick texture, hints of cinnamon, and an explosion of espresso. It was served at a good warm temperature. The coffee shop has a relaxing vibe. The shop overlooks the Tennessee River. The shop has couches for conversation and tables for serious workers. I should assign more value to the gal that made it just for me. She was really kind and attentive. I did thank her enthusiastically, because I was genuinely grateful. Really. I am thankful for the neat environment at Stone Cup and the variety of seating options. I am indeed grateful for the great lighting from their large windows. Too many little cafes and coffee houses are just too dark. I could be more thankful for the rain and the great view of the Tennessee River from Stone Cup. It's just that I really had some work to do while I was enjoying my frappe at the comfy tall table near the big window. (Oh, I forgot to add that I am thankful that I am tall so that I can be especially thrilled at the prospect of barstool seating at tall tables.) It's just that the work I had to finish cannot be done because the data exchange rate for the WiFi at Stone Cup is painfully slow! I came to stone cup for a little writing by the river with a cup of coffee and a bite to eat. There's no disappointment on these counts. The interior is interesting and clean. There was Costa Rican coffee brewed which was excellent. It was roasted lighter than other Costa Ricans I've had in the past but was still nutty and delicious. I also had an Eggel which as you might surmise was a simple toasted bagel with a scrambled egg. Good choice for an easy, protein packed breakfast. I imagine it would be great to grab on the go in the morning. The staff seemed a little preoccupied with their phones but willing enough to answer my questions when I drew their attention. All-in-all, a great place to spend a rainy afternoon in downtown Chattanooga. read more

I grew up in Chattanooga and this was the first coffee shop I ever went to; way before Starbucks was even in Chattanooga. In fact, I remember when the owner (I think her name was Jen) opened a location off of Gunbarrel. Both locations were not super fancy but were not that far behind Rembrandt's in terms of vibe, prices and selection. It did really well until Starbucks established their first Chatt. location not even a short walk away within StoneCup's first year there and they were promptly forced to close their doors. It was really upsetting. Since then, the coffee shop has bounced around in a couple of different spots on Cherokee (N. Chatt.). I recently moved back after living allover and I fully expected that by now Chatt would've come off their Starbucks high and they'd at least have a local chain that's comparable. No such luck. Although there' are really good coffee spots here, I was disappointed to see that Stone Cup regressed. They do have good coffees but their tables are always dirty and they've fostered a weird crowd. Their drinks are decent but their food sucks. They've kind of relinquished whatever place they had as the "not snobby coffee spot". read more
