I have been going to Mean Mug for over 4 years now. It is the most convienent coffee shop in Chattanooga. There was a time where I told people, "Mean Mug is a great place to meet up but the coffee is just okay." Then there was a time that I told people, "Wow Mean Mug's coffee has gotten a lot better!" Living on the Southside, I had never frequented their North Shore location until today. Much bigger storefront and while I like the "old" that comes with the Southside location, the North Shore site has a nicer atmosphere overall and with its expansive space, seems to be the preferred place for the students and others doing a bit of work. Friendly, helpful staff and for today, I again went with the Churro Latte, without adjusting the recipe. Tasty, not too sweet, but they need to increase that temperature, a common problem with many of the coffee houses. How about a real mug please? read more

came here with a group of friends and had semi high expectations for the food based off the reviews. They got a little busy, and we waited almost 20 minutes for our meals, in the meantime, I had a Matcha latte which was yummy and very authentic, perfectly frothy and not made with too much milk like other places. my friend and I shared the curry hash bowl and were a little disappointed that there was no sauce to tie in the kale to the dish a bit more, but the curry sweet potatoes were yummy and the chickpeas and sautéed peppers offset it well & it was a really good dish. I also had the salmon bagel which was great, just the right cream cheese ratio and the ingredients were fresh. Could have used a little more salmon but for $11 it's less than i often see it for so that's fair. read more

Very unique coffeehouse. Looks like a lot of the young people a.k.a. college students like to come here study play on their computer computers whatever the case. The breakfast sandwich everything bagel with bacon was so delicious. My husband got the sourdough turkey, avocado pepper, and it was very flavorful. For beverage, he got a hibiscus tea not too sweet just right And I got a large Americano with white chocolate and lavender. Oh my gosh, it was so good sir very hot. We were making a few stops on this side of town when I really wanted a latte. I'd heard good things about Mean Mug the last time we visited Chattanooga, so I decided to give them a try. It was a very quiet afternoon with no other patrons inside at the time. We had to wait a few minutes before someone was available to take my order, but once I placed it, I was able to get in and out pretty quickly, which was appreciated. The young woman who took my order was helpful and kind when I asked a question about the menu. I took a sip of my drink before leaving, and the first sip seemed fine. Of course it was hot, so I waited a few minutes after leaving before drinking some more. Well, unfortunately, I didn't enjoy my next few sips. I'm not sure what happened, but the coffee itself was just seriously lacking. And I didn't love the syrup. I ended up pouring out my drink. All in all, I was surprised because I'd heard good things. Two and a half stars. I was visiting from out of town & I always want to try local, but unfortunately this place didn't make a great impression. The space is very cool & unique, but the employees were unfriendly and not very willing to help. It was Sunday morning so there was a steady stream of people but it wasn't packed by any means. I very rarely comment on service because I know working in a restaurant is juggling a lot of things, but almost every employee I interacted with had a bad attitude. I went to the counter to ask questions twice and was ignored twice. Really did not feel like they wanted us there. My husband said the coffee was good and I really liked the charcoal lemonade, but the food was below average. His sandwich was pitiful looking, and my biscuit was so dry it crumbled into a hundred pieces trying to eat it. A very cute coffee shop that also serves all day breakfast. It's located in signal mill shopping mall. When you first go inside, you order at the counter to the right. They are taking covid precautions and using a glass shield where you order, menus posted so you don't need to touch them. There's a showcase showing all the pastries and there are vegan choices! This is a great place for a cup of coffee, dessert or a quick brunch! My go-to is an oat milk latte and the veggie grits bowl. You get more than enough food for the price point which is always great! We love the cinnamon roll too. Service was fast and very friendly. The vibe of the cafe is fun and cozy too. I came to Mean Mug a couple of times in December, and overall, it was an okay coffee shop. I liked the ambience, which straddled the line between hipster and homespun, and it was a nice spot to sit and do work or meet a friend. Plus, the location on the North Shore (with a free parking lot) was super convenient. Even with the freeway construction, it's easily accessible from the Signal Mountain/Red Bank side or the Downtown Chattanooga side. My favorite thing that I had from Mean Mug was their buttermilk biscuit, which came with a choice of toppings. The biscuit was huge! It was also warm, buttery, and crusty in all the right ways. And at $2.50, it was a fantastic deal! I'd definitely come back just for the biscuit. Unfortunately, I wasn't as impressed by Mean Mug's coffee, which is why I can't rate them any higher than a 3/5. I tried their latte and their dirty chai, and neither of them blew me away. They were both really affordable for what they were, which was a definite plus, but I'd rather spend a little more for a more flavorful drink elsewhere. read more

We hoped to stop at the more popular Mean Mug Coffeehouse but the parking was not as convenient around there. This location is part of a huge plaza with plenty of parking, although the lot was packed. I was pretty full so didn't get anything to eat but I made sure to get something caffeinated so I could get some reading done. There wasn't anything in particular on the menu that caught my eye so I got my usual, a dirty chai. They also serve nitro cold brew on draft which is always nice. The coffee shop can get a little loud when it gets crowded and everyone is talking. However, pop in those headphones and you could work all day with the free WiFi and outlets for charging your devices. Might not be the best spot for intimate conversation but a great spot to do some work or hang out over a cup of coffee. read more

Visiting from out of town, I dropped by and ordered the avocado, toast and coffee. The coffee had a metallic taste and was mediocre at best. I ordered the avocado toast at 7:33 AM, according to my receipt. At 7:55 still no food. There was no one in front of me when I ordered and the establishment was about 40% full. I went up to the counter to ask about my food and was told they were boxing it up. BTW I did not order it "to go". I could plainly see they were scrambling to get the order and had forgotten it. Best breakfast we have had in a very long time. We're from out of town and weren't expecting the food to be anything special, since it's primarily a coffeehouse. We were totally blown away by the food at this place. We ordered cinnamon rolls, donuts, a few breakfast sandwiches and a paleo breakfast. Everything was just unbelievably good.
