Hubby found this little restaurant on a map while I was driving and it sounded like a nice local place to eat lunch rather than having fast food or going to a chain restaurant. The restaurant specializes in using local ingredients and the food was top notch. The Nutty Chicken Salad is a green salad WITH nuts, chicken, and fruit, rather than a southern chicken salad. The portion was generous and filling. Hubby's quesadilla was made with what looked to be a spinach wrap and he said it was tasty. The fry I "stole" from his plate was crispy and enjoyable. The iced tea was refreshing and our server got me a to-go cup for the road when we left. We also took a "Whoppers" cookie with us for a sweet treat. What happened to our go-to restaurant in Landrum?! We were big fans and frequent visitors to Stone Soup based on good food, service and atmosphere. That changed tonight. We were welcomed with a hand-written dry erase board outside of the entrance promoting "SPecails" and should have turned around then. We were seated at the bar and eventually greeted by a bartender, who was able to get me a drink, on my 3rd order (telling us that the manager had quit, the pear martini was no longer on the menu due to cost and that they didn't have the Edmunds Oast, Bound by Time beer that was on the menu (actually spelled on menu as "Bond")). My Wife ordered her usual, Cosmo, and said it was the worst she'd ever had. We ordered the Mediterranean plate and Brussels. They were both fine but we weren't checked on a single time after they were delivered. Our water glasses were empty well before we finished, and never refilled. When I asked for the check and gave the bartender a $100 bill, she gave me change from her pocket, which was to the restaurant's favor by a few cents! What in the world?!? Again, we have been fans of Stone Soup for years but we won't return given this disappointing (truly) experience. read more

Cozy restaurant in Landrum, SC with indoor and outdoor spaces. Attentive service and amazingly fresh food! We visited around 3:00 on a Friday in January 2026. The place was pretty empty, but we loved that. The menu is amazing! We had the fried green tomatoes, a California Cobb salad, and a Black & Blue Steak salad. Everything was so fresh and delicious! Loved the equestrian decor, which pays homage to the history of Landrum. We will definitely be back! read more

We haven't been since the renovation and expansion was completed, so we decided to check it out. The outdoor seating area has been expanded and improved...it is a nice area to enjoy. Indoors, there is a pleasant atmosphere as well. We were disappointed that the food didn't match the improved surroundings. The filet was butterflied and extremely overdone-it was ordered as medium rare and came out well done. Unfortunately, we had to send it back. The replacement came late in the meal and was overdone as well. I had the mustard roasted potato salad...the potatoes were underdone and hard. Seems there is a trend here. We ordered the honey and butter bread stick appetizer...it was nothing more than a pizza crust with honey and butter drizzled on it. Last time I checked, pizza ain't bread sticks. I had the ahi tuna sandwich, and it was good. The service was mediocre. But it seems all restaurants are experiencing shortages in wait staff. Kinda disappointed, but maybe they were having an off day. read more

Very cute spot in a small town. We're from California so of course we ended up getting the California pizza it hit the spot! We both love wood fired pizza with complex flavor and unique toppings. The staff was overwhelmed by the busy day, but we were served fairly quickly. One of my favorite parts was the beautiful room we were seated in. Lots of natural light and great ambience. Wish we had room for dessert, it sounded like they had a lot of delicious options. read more

Food cold and not cooked. Drinks made wrong and attitude from fill in bartender. No owner or manager on site. Staff informed us that cook and assistant cook were fired and dishwasher was cooking the food. Poor waitress was embarrassed. Not her fault. Tipped her well. Will not return. read more

My husband and I used to visit every other week. We haven't been since they redecorated. We hoped to eat outside in beautiful weather today. However all outside seats under shelter were next to a big dog. We were seated inside next to an air conditioning vent and it was quite chilly. The music eas very jazzy & quite loud. The pizza crust was burnt &  black on 1/2. The topping was greasy. Not what we remembered or had hoped for. read more

Turn on the street just after the restaurant to get to the parking. Food was good. Mojito was kind of a joke. The Mediterranean plate app was great. The flies were a bit too much. Initial seating was directly under a dripping vent but they did move us when we asked them to. Live music is always a plus. If we are back this way, we'd stop back but bring some fly repellent. Did I forget to mention the flies? I mean for an indoor restaurant there really was WAY too many flies. Drink station is literally in front of the bathroom. Pitchers of beverages open with no coverings. Kind of gross the more I think about it. read more

Rustic atmosphere which I enjoy. 2 seating areas and a small bar. Fantastic pear martinis! Can't find them in most places. Terrific spinach and artichoke dip. Huge chunks of artichokes in it. So many good things to like about Stone Soup. You can feel confident you're getting fresh and responsibly sourced ingredients. Everything is prepared with care under the watchful eye of Suzanne, the owner. I was in town to visit my friend Tina who recently moved to Tryon. She said she had heard of this place with many positive endorsements. We went for a Wednesday lunch and found it to be a good time with many open tables. It was steady but not overly so during a weekday lunch time. Tina had the walnut/pecan chicken salad with the mixed vegetables. I had the Smokin Turkey with mixed sautéed vegetables. The turkey was so fresh with applewood bacon, Swiss cheese and chipotle mayo served on sourdough bread and just huge, I had to get a 'go box' for almost half. We were both very pleased with the food quality, taste, flavor and preparation. The sauteed veggies were zuchinnie, mushrooms and french green beans and sauteed in a flavor mix of seasoinings. Christine was our server and did an outstanding job at answering all of our menu questions and was very accommodating at making some minor modifications for us. The only downside and just a minor nit is there are many salads but NO iceberg lettuce. This is in a great location on a corner with plenty of parking. This restaurant used to be very good, however for the past 2-3 years the food is average. Shrimp & grits were soupy, crawfish & pasta were oily and the hamburger burger was dry and just OK also the cheese looked & tasted like sliced cheese that's individually wrapped in clear plastic, The servers are congenial and do a good job. read more

The waitress we had was phenomenal! Although when we first entered the restaurant we were treated TERRIBLE, the host, named Heidi was everything but hospitable. Her attitude was immediately nasty right off the bat. Food was great and so was the area but Heidi's attitude has completely deterred us from ever returning, if you are wise you would remove her from your establishment. read more

We had the ham and bean soup of the day ( made that morning) , and a really thick , spicy , flavorful corned beef Reuben. Everything was delicious, even the iced tea was fresh made . Service was impeccable, and spot on by the bartender. They are remodeling and I can wait to go back and see the new restaurant. Update! After reading other reviews and the owner's comments to them I am not surprised that the owner called me a liar. Luckily I had many witnessess. Including several people we didn't know eating in the same room. I have eaten here many times in the past and loved it. But in the past year things (menu and service) have definitely declined to the point that after last night we will not be going back. Last night was the worst dining experience ever. We had reservations (5 of us) but had to wait at least 10 min while they cleaned a table. We were taken to a table and waited forever to order drinks and appetizer. Appetizer came - dip and chips - no plates - no serving spoon for dips no napkins. When we pointed out no napkins, etc waitress brought small plates and paper napkins. We had to ask for regular silver ware. We ordered and my 4 friends order came out. Mine didn't. After waiting for a bit the waitress came over to see if all was ok - we pointed to my empty place and she said, Oh - I will see where it is. She came back and said it would be right out. We waited and waited and finally one of my friends who had almost finished her meal told the hostess/manager. She came to the table and start telling us that only 4 orders can be given to the kitchen at a time and somehow mine had gotten lost. I said that is ridiculous and she immediately cut me off and asked if I had ever run a restaurant. I said no - but I had eaten at plenty and the waitress should never have just brought out 4 meals if the 5th wasn't ready. She should have asked the kitchen where it was. And, mine was not the fifth order taken so that made no sense. My food finally came and one of my friends said my meal should be comped and the mngr. said ok she would comp mine. She never volunteered just agreed when asked. I immediately asked for a box because my friends needed to leave. We asked for the bill. The waitress came and asked if we were separate bills. Then we waited and waited and waited. Someone got up and asked the mgr to please get us our bills. We saw her talking to the waitress and then they both just disappeared. We again waited and waited - 20 min in all and we finally decided if we got up to leave maybe someone would come. We got up and waited in the lobby area for another few minutes. We saw no one so we left!! Apparently one of my friends, after going to her car felt guilty and came back in and paid the bill. The mgr never told her she was sorry or offered her anything off the bill. Just said I am glad you came and paid because I don't know what I would have done. Maybe if she had to eat the cost she would have figured out how to "Run a Restaurant" . It is a shame because the food when it came was good. But, we will never be going back! read more

Cute place. Set in an old home so a variety of seating areas. Food and menu were ok. The kitchen might have been overwhelmed as the mains came out in dribs and drabs and the last person had to wait a bit. Cool vibe, and I'm glad I stopped in. It's only about a 2 min drive off the interstate and well worth it. The menu has a verity of full course meals, salads, burgers and more. I had the tortilla soup and Mediterranean plate. The soup was delicious with just the right amount of kick to it, and the Mediterranean plate was awesome! It had everything on it from a Greek salad, hummus, fresh vegetables and pita bread. Be careful when traveling here it's easy to miss because it's and older home converted into a restaurant. So dog friendly patio that's 5 stars, the flys I get it's outside in summer but you need to do some control. So that's a 2. The patio is a 4 enjoy it other than the flies. All gravel parking so if you are handicap think about that. Food well burger and steak sandwich tasted ok but not worth the cost. The wine and drinks well those are way overpriced as well. Service friendly but if you have a person who doesn't like dogs maybe not the person needed to work patio so I get the problem finding help. So if you have a dog this place is a winner everything else it might be a flop. That's why 3 stars. read more

Ate outside at picnic tables. No trashcan so I took the trash inside. The older lady said to go to the back and put it in the dumpster. I told her I needed to go to the bathroom. It was right there but she said to go outside and use the one out there. This is ridiculous. I spent $75.00 to go empty her trash and then get regulated to the outside bathroom! The food is average. Cool little place. We are first timers and didn't know what we really wanted. There's a good mix of different types of food here. We ordered a hamburger and tuna salad. It took a while to get our food but we weren't in a rush anyway. The dinning room was kinda romantic and quiet. A very good place to date. The food quality was good but the portions in my opinion were small. Another reason to bring a date. No pigging out here. The prices were kinda higher than expected compared to other local restaurants. I'm glad we didn't bring all are grandkids. However, there is outside seating so there plan B. read more

At Stone Soup we enjoyed a charming restaurant, with delicious food and delightful waitress by the name of Kaile! We were greeted with a smile and enjoyed an amazing Black and Blue salad and Mushroom pizza with a lovely glass of wine. All the employees had a positive attitude and enjoyed their job which is unheard of in restaurants today and Kaile couldn't have taken better care of us, always with a delightful attitude. Make sure you pay in cash. The food is great, the restaurant is cute, but don't give them a card. I ate there a month ago and their card reader was having issues. They asked us to pay in cash, then got the card reader working, we paid with cards (there were 2 of us) and left, I thought nothing of it. Until I got a notification that my card was charged again about a week later. When I looked into my statement, there had been a glitch apparently so the first charge was only for the amount of the meal itself. The second charge was for the tip. Except it was more than I put on the check. The same happened to the friend I had dinner with. I have been calling to resolve it for the last month, have talked to a manager, and they basically tell me they're going to work on it and then never call me back. I tried to make it easy, see if they'd just credit me the difference when I came back and they wouldn't confirm anything. I ended up disputing it with my card company and calling it a day.
