As a native, I try to visit local restaurants and businesses. Stone Soup did not disappoint. Place was clean, staff was extremely courteous and the food was wonderful. Took guests that were staying with us and everything ordered from pizza, salad, soup, etc. was great! We enjoyed our meal so much that we bought food to go to enjoy another meal at home. Great place to grab a bite after a horse show or for a nice place to grab a drink with friends. I love the look and feel of this resturant with all of the equestrian decor or the walls. The chicken corn chowder is the best soup I have had in a very long time. I could go on and on but to end I just want to say give this place a shot. Had the stone burger with a soup and half sandwich. Meat was cooked perfectly. Absolutely fantastic taste. The sauce adds a mighty touch to an already great burger. The BLT sandwich was also stellar, chicken was well prepared and seasoned. The beef and potato soup was also delicious. Overall great place if you're looking for quality food. As locals we are so lucky to have this gem nearly right in our own backyard :) We love bringing our friends and clients who are in town visiting us to Stone Soup- we always feel right at home with all the horse related items and photos on the walls. My introduction to Stone Soup was not the best. Although the other ladies in my group were pleased with their orders, I obviously chose the wrong item. The menu listed "Nutty Chicken Salad." Well, I love trying chicken salad at restaurants and decided to order this. The menu also listed a salad that one could add chicken or other items to. What I got was a large plate of lettuce with lots of nuts, a few grapes, dried cranberries and thinly sliced, very overdone chicken. It was not chicken salad! It was a salad with added chicken. I ate about half, ate one slice of the overcooked chicken and did not take any home. What a disappointment! And then to add to my dismay, our "checks" came on a computer screen and the only choices for a gratuity were 18% and up! I resented being told the amount I should leave as a tip! My friend and I attended the Landrum Quilt Show and decided this looked like a great place to have lunch. Location was great and we loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. There was a waiting line as we arrived a little after 12. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated. The waitress seated us. After around 20 minutes we noticed other folks that came in after us had their drinks and one table was already enjoying a pizza. We also noticed whoever was seating the clients seemed to be the ones bringing their drinks to the table. We tried to get the attention of the waitress that seated us - she promptly turned her head when she saw us motion her our way. We decided we would try another waitress - she too make a point to look away and to never look at us again! Finally I saw another waitress and I got up from the table and asked if she could find someone to help us. She said I literally just got here but I will get your order. She promptly bought our drinks and our food arrived a short time later. I'm giving the place a rating of 3 - mainly because our salads were not that bad. We both had the Southwestern Salad. The salad dressing was very thick and not that tasty. The shrimp was ok and the greens were fresh. It's highly unlikely that I would ever eat here again. Mainly because the service was so terrible. I wish I knew the name of the waitress that finally helped us. She does deserve some recognition, but the others need training or another job not dealing directly with people. We came in and ordered burgers and waited over half an hour. The people who came in after us got their food before us by at least 5 minutes. My sister ordered her burger medium and it was overcooked. When the food finally got there the fries were hot but the burgers were not. We had ordered pizza to go also and they did not put the order in. We had already been there for over an hour. I've eaten in dining twice and take out (both fresh and frozen) multiple times. The fresh/in dining has been fantastic food, particularly the pizzas and salads. The precooked/frozen we've had less success with and won't purchase again; just too much heaviness, butter, salt for our taste. The tipping thing is uncomfortable. You are presented with a tablet "here's your total" which I know a lot of places do for convenience and speed now, but some of us like to take a minute with the bill and figuring tip, not given "tip this" options (especially for take out frozen foods)! When dining in, I really did not plan to tip 35% (nice service, but that's a little much), but when server is standing there taking my cash and asking "do you want change?" it is intimidating and embarrassing to say, umm, yes, I do. Why not just make the change (which she had in her hand) and let me leave the tip I want? read more

This is my favorite restaurant in the Landrum, SC / Tryon, NC area and on par, food quality-wise, with The Purple Onion up in Saluda....another top pick but a different crowd with more casual food. Stone Soup is small and has a casual elegance that pays homage to the local equestrian community with walls and walls of pictures of local riders doing their thing. Just about everything on the menu is really good. Sometimes, the pasta dishes can be a bit mundane but there are some really stellar choices here like the Asian-inspired Tuna Tower app, the steak of the day and the hazlenut / cilantro encrusted salmon. Sides are great too like the fried potatoes with parmesan and truffle oil as well as the roasted veggies. The service is attentive but can suffer when they get busy. But, it's a place to sit down for dinner and conversation...not a quick meal. Come early if you dare bring the kiddies. We usually go early or get a sitter for Thing 1 and Thing 2 or get carryout. Yes, a little pricey for the area but the $$$ keeps the riff-raff out. Oooops. Sorry. That was insensitive....didn't mean that. Oh, wait, yes, I did. It's good to have a big-city-worthy dinner place out here in horsey country amidst the plethora of really mediocre restaurants. One great story about the service at Stone Soup...my daughter was playing with a doll at the table while we were waiting on the food and caught the dolls' foot on fire from the table candle. I quickly put it out (dunking the dolls' foot in my water glass) but it did stink up the place and left my 4 YO daughter crying. The waiter realized what happened, came over to console her and offered to take the doll to the doctor, saying he would be back in a second. The doll was returned moments later with a band-aid over the "injury" on her foot.....nice touch. And, he didn't forget to bring me a fresh glass of water either. read more

One of the only places that require masks to walk from hostess stand to your table. Once you're at the table you can remove your mask. Yeah that makes sense. Sat outside, had to wait for my fries, no refills. Then they bring out a tablet to pay and the waitress literally stands over my shoulder to see what I put as the tip. This was our second visit to Stone Soup. The food was just as delicious as the first time we visited. I had the shrimp tacos and my friend had the tomato pie. Both were generous portions and I cannot say which one was the better of the two. The tomato pie was flavorful, creamy and rich and the tacos were just spicy enough with shrimp so plentiful they couldn't stay in the tortilla as I tasted it. The coffee was hot and fresh and our server couldn't have been more efficient and friendly. It was a great experience and we will surely be back again! read more

We were just looking for a quiet place to eat. Then we came across this gem. For starters we had a roasted beet salad with fresh goat cheese and candied pecans. This was our favorite part of the meal. Everything blended perfectly. For the entrée I had trout with brown butter sauce and toasted almonds and roasted potatoes. Everything about this meal was excellent. My wife had one of the specials. Chicken Breast breaded with panko, served with pasta and tomato sauce and a caprese salad. Picked up takeout - my daughter eats here frequently and likes their vegetarian and vegan options. This time was disappointing. I stood at the counter for probably ten minutes with multiple employees walking by me, not asking if I needed help. The employee who did finally notice I was there was very helpful. We ordered ahead for takeout. When we got home, the Caesar salad had no dressing, the Brussels sprouts were roasted beyond recognition - they looked like a pile of charred leaves. The flavor was okay, but they were nearly inedible. The parmesan fries were literally fries with shredded Parm from a prepackaged container that doesn't melt, not freshly grated. The caprese salad was pretty good but needed a lot more basil. I'm sure it was just an off day, and I could tell by the variety of desserts displayed and prepared refrigerated and freezer meals that this is a place I'd like to try again, but only because my daughter frequents it and really likes it. read more

What a great find a little off our beaten path! Great service and atmosphere! Fun grocery area with take home meals, bakery and unusual items. Nothing short of fabulous! We had a pizza with an arugula walnut pesto and it was amazing! Took some friends here before we went wine tasting in Tryon. They loved it as well.
