Although our GRILLED food came with a nice dosage of oil underneath (the reason it's 4 and not 5 stars) the food tasted SO SO GOOD! As the best Yelper out there, there are pictures of every plate we ordered! (Did you just roll your eyes at my best Yelper comment? :-/) Since we were newbs, we couldn't just stand there without knowing what to order, so we grabbed a menu and sat down. We are the annoying type that ask many questions about the food and these workers were so kind and helpful! We ended up getting: Grilled Lemon Pepper Chicken Breast: Tasted very fresh and light Tri-Tip: 1/2lb BBQ 1/2lb Pepper Garlic Pesto Pasta petite (it says individual but it's such a big portion) and it was very good! So last Wednesday my guy and I decided to swing on by to Stonefire. We come here pretty often. I really love the salads. He really likes the Pulled Pork sandwich and breadsticks. It's been good. But last Wednesday, it was GREAT!! We order our food and take a seat. The girl at the register is pleasant, nothing special. We take a seat and one of the food runners, Jason, makes his way to our table with my Cartwheel salad on a tray. That's when time slowed down. He greeted us. Smiled. Reached for the salad. His facial features contorted. The salad bowl slipped from his grasped... slowly, all the contents seemed to defy gravity... like a shower of produce raining on the table... and the bowl flipping, flipping, landing upside down at the edge of the table. For a moment, we were motionless. Then, time caught up. Jason looked utterly mortified. My guy, shocked, but smiling. I was laughing. That was an epic salad toss! And none of it managed to get on me!! So why the 5-star rating? Jason not only came back to clean the salad salmagundi in a flash, but got it replaced super fast. It even got there with the rest of our meal. He apologized, although I'm not sure he believed that we really REALLY didn't mind. I've been to Stonefire Grill a few times, and every time I've really enjoyed it! Every time I've visited I've been with my boyfriend, and most of the time his two grandmas come with us. My favorite dish by FAR is their tri-tip! I always get the petite tri-tip (6 ounces) with the garlic flavoring/seasoning/spread, and a side of their amazing garlic mashed potatoes. It is the perfect size for my small-medium stomach, and the tri tip is just cooked to perfection. I am a big fan of tri tip but I usually never order it from restaurants...and it is basically the ONLY thing I order when I go to Stonefire! My boyfriend always gets the BBQ chicken pizza which he really loves. One of his grandmas gets the mac n cheese which she seems to really enjoy too. All of the staff are very friendly and clean off the tables pretty quickly. This is the only location I've ever been to, but I really enjoy it and wish I lived closer so I could visit more often! read more

Totally underrated place. And honestly, I think Urban Plates moving in just next door and being soooooooooo crazy busy helped draw some overdue attention to StoneFire Grill. The food is pretty similar, just presented in different ways. Sure, they sometimes think medium rare is the same as medium well...but their tri-tip is almost always tender. Their salads are bomb (chopped salad, I'm looking at you!) and the portions are more than enough for the stated # of people. Their sides are pretty tasty too - I favor the quinoa mint salad and the cauliflower salad. Yum! Definitely a place we go to when we're in the mood for some no-fuss tri-tip and salad. read more

Most tender chicken I ever had! Tritip (1/2 mesquite bbq 1/2 pepper garlic topped with gorgonzola butter) I like the fact they asked me how I wanted my tritip (medium rare). It was well cooked and the gorgonzola butter was a nice touch. Mesquite BBQ Chicken - by far my favorite dish of the night. Had both tritip and chicken, topped with gouda cheese cilantro and red onion with a drizzle of bbq sauce. Everything I tried was delicious from beginning to end. The only thing that irked me was since you order at the front you technically don't have "servers/waiters". So when the receipt was asking for tip I hesitated for a second. I am extremely disappointed by my lone visit to this Stonefire Grill location. After a long day at work, I decided to order some Stonefire Grill for my family "to go." Although I was thinking about getting the ribs, my wife mentioned that she was going to order the tri-tip with Gorgonzola butter. I have never had Gorgonzola butter before, but it sounded delicious, so I opted to order the tri-tip as well (and forego the ribs). Unfortunately, after picking up my order and driving home, I discovered that, while my wife's tri-tip had gorgonzola butter drizzled on it, mine was completely bare. I was totally disappointed. To make matters worse, they didn't even include silverware with my to go order. At the end of the day, I guess it's partially my fault because I should've checked my order prior to leaving and not assumed that the restaurant would get my order right. On the other hand, I would hope that you could trust a restaurant to get your order right and, at the very least, pack silverware. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect when I came here, it looked pretty upscale/fancy from the outside, but it was actually a relaxed, casual place with an extensive (and affordable!) menu. It seems like the popular thing these days is to order first at the cashier, then go to your seat with a number while a server brings you your food. Both Fish Grill and Panera Bread do this and whaddyaknow, those restaurants are just a few feet away from this place! It's a combination of casual dining with a fast food mentality, so it's okay to come hungry since you won't have to wait long for your food! I ordered the Grilled salad with Tri-tip - it comes in sizes of petite, small, medium, and large. The small portion is pretty big for one person - it was difficult to finish. I loved that it had artichoke hearts, avocado, and cucumbers in it. Who likes a boring iceberg lettuce filled salad that you find in most places? The tri tip wasn't overcooked and really tender, though I wish there was more on the salad. You can find a great meal here for prices between $6-20... this is a great place to come with groups of people because of its family style option and its many menu selections. Tri-tip, roasted chicken, baby back ribs, salads, wraps, soups, pizza... it's all right here baby! Tip: they have another door next to the main one specifically for "to go orders". This is always a great place to eat with big groups since the portions are pretty big! My go-to orders are the bbq chopped salad with chicken (instead of tri-tip because they give more meat) and the tri tip ala carte or chicken ala carte! Their pizza is also pretty decent :) If you have a big group (4-5) I definitely recommend the stimulus package ($27?) for a small salad, pizza, breadsticks, and your choice or tri tip or chicken i think. For those of you mourning the loss of Pat & Oscar's in Tustin, Stonefire Grill is your new go-to place for home-style comfort food specializing in pasta, breadsticks, salad, chicken, ribs and pizza. It's extremely similar to Pat & Oscar's, with the order at the counter and seat/serve yourself style. It seems very popular with big groups and families. I can already tell that my dad will love this place and he'll probably be bringing us in on a semi-regular basis. My brother and I scanned the family meals and crowd pleaser options (for groups of 4/6) but we weren't super impressed with the options. Basically, you order one main course (either chicken or ribs) and also get a large salad and 12-18 breadsticks. Unless you're with an extremely large group, I would prefer to order a pasta, a meat dish, and maybe a small salad or a few breadsticks. We tried the small marinara pasta (pretty decent, it was good), the BBQ boneless chicken breast & tri-tip (also pretty decent), and got a small caesar salad and 2 breadsticks. It came out to $20 for 2 people, and we had leftovers. The food came out really fast, which was good because we were starving. The servers were really nice and would check on us to ask if we needed anything else. I was pleased with the experience and I'll be back with my family. I was pleasantly surprised that a chain would get 4 stars - most don't and the fact that this place has had 400+ reviews was also surprising, so I had to try it out. After looking at the food pictures to see if I was interested, it reminded me of the old Pat & Oscars, if any of you know that chain. Anyway, between me, the hubby, the 2 year old who doesn't like to eat and the 5 month old, we ordered and shared a family meal which consisted of tri-tip, whole rack of ribs, medium size salad and 12 breadsticks. It's true that I have had an average dining experience at Stonefire Grill, but after the one I just had, I have completely changed my attitude towards this restaurant. First of all, we discovered their "Stimulus Package," but remember -- you can only redeem it if you bring in the ad that specifically mentions this deal. I found mine in the usual clutter of ads sent through snail mail. Regardless, with this deal, we ordered a cartwheel salad, breadsticks, two-topping pizza (red onion and mushroom), AND barbecue tri-tip all for $25!! There were a TON of people, but they had such an efficient mechanism to make sure that you got a table before you got your food... and somehow, we were seated in five minutes, despite the Friday night crowd. The first part of the food we ordered came out fairly quickly... and even with just the breadsticks and salad we were impressed so far! The cartwheel salad is SO GOOD. You need to try it at least once if you come here! Then came the pizza and the glorious tri-tip... the pizza was simple but tasty, and the tri-tip... cooked to perfection! It never hurts to get some more barbecue sauce from the self-service bar and lather it onto the tri-tip! So, so, so, so, goooood. Ive really tried to like this place, and I just cant seem to do it. I just havent had great experiences and the food hasnt been too good. I have to say I really like the chicken tortilla soup. That is delicious. Their salads look pretty good, but I have never tried one. I have had the BBQ Beef sandwich, twice - and neither time was that great. I dont remember what I had the first time I was here, but I remember just not loving it. The picture of pizza someone posted looks delicious - maybe if I give it another try I will go for the pizza. Too bad they don't have the specials on the weekends. But that doesn't stop me from coming here because the pricing is still reasonably affordable for a good hearty meal. The menu is quite large too, so they have something for just about everyone. Whether you order meat, salad, pizza, or pasta, be sure to order some bread sticks to go along with your meal. It's all good. The fall-off-the-bone Mesquite BBQ Chicken, Lemon Garlic Chicken, Pesto Pasta, and Stonefire's BBQ Chopped Salad are among my favorites. Petite salad is the size of some regular salads and is splitable. Small feeds 1 adult as an entrée. Medium feeds 2 adults as entrees. Large feeds 3 adults as an entrée, but at that point your basically catering. You'll scoff at the prices, but the prices are reflective with a 4 pound medium chop salad thinking there is lasagna in it or at least 2 double doubles when you are handed you bag if you order togo. Stay away from the quinoa, if you wanted your salad with you may as well go to Veggie grill across the street. First off the parking is suspect for the whole complex and you really don't know what is the front side or side side. It's door is street side with ample waiting and registers. Large open kitchen and warm inviting décor. Gets great western exposure in the afternoon. Maybe a little bit buffet ish, but not dated. Staff is friendly, prompt and thought I can't name individuals, I've got good experiences each time I've come here for lunch pick up, lunch or dinner. There can be a rush, but not too bad of a wait. Prices are reasonable as they offer Pat & Oscar-esque food, but at a much higher quality. Protip: Stimulus Package is the best deal and is not on the menu. $25 feeds for 4, but you get a bit of everything, though split 3 ways is my go to with monster appetites. Breadsticks are excellent and worth getting over all other sides. Salads are finely chopped so it's hard to get a ton on your fork. Tri-tip cooked hot and fast, could use more citrus, but better than the bland chicken. Pesto Pasta is ok, light on the oil, parm and slight hint of pine nuts. Ribs don't' have that smoke ring, but they are tender. Not overly sauced or sweet. Sauce is pretty neutral. Bottomless drinks are a nice offering. Dressings as a whole are light, but I tend to get the Dijon vinaigrette on everything. Carrot cake is the hidden gem within the hidden gem and the fudge brownies top of everything. It's a real value if you know what you like and like to share, better if you sit down versus take to go. It's a bit of a hidden gem with so many other places like VeggieGrill, Wings, chipotle, California Fish Grill in the area. If Pat & Oscars went upscale and minused the kids (they do have a kids menu, but I don't see many eating here) or if Applebee's offered real dishes or if Corner Bakery made entrees or if Urban Plates offered value this would be it. read more

First time here, service at the front was friendly, and we were greeted as soon as we walked through the door. I ordered the petite BBQ chicken salad. I was going to order a small size, when the woman taking my order asked if I wanted it as a side salad, and I said yes. She said the small size is meant to feed two (since when does anything sized small feed two?) and I was glad she said so. I shudder to think how large the medium or large must be! Lol. My husband ordered the tri-tip and ribs combo meal, with the garlic mashed potatoes on the side. It took a while for our food to come out, and when it did, there was chicken instead of tri-tip. My husband initially ordered chicken but changed it to ribs shortly after. The waitress apologized but we were so hungry at that point we just asked her to leave the ribs and bring out an order of the tri-tip. The manager came over with a plate and asked us to put the chicken on it, which we thought was odd. I mean my husband had already used his fork so I sincerely hope they threw the chicken away. The manager came over when we were nearly finished with our meal to ask how everything was. Well, the ribs were dry unfortunately and the garlic sauce we had ordered on the side didn't look appetizing at all. The manager Shawn was very attentive and helpful, and asked if he could do anything to make the meal better. We declined but thanked him for checking on us. We said we were a little disappointed considering there were such good reviews on Yelp and we felt the meal we had didn't live up to the hype. To our surprise, the manager Shawn came back to our table a few minutes later, gift card in hand and asked that we please give the restaurant one more try. I haven't written in a while but tonight motivated me to write something and warn anyone that happens upon this review. This was the first time my wife and I ate at a Stonefire thinking it would be something similar to Woodranch BBQ. Were we unpleasantly surprised. First the ordering method was a bit different than what we're used to, you order first and then sit down, kind of like Pat & Oscars'. No biggie the family sat down and after purusing the menu I went to order. Wife got a 1/2 chicken meal and I got the Tri-Tip meal (1/2 BBQ and 1/2 Lemon Garlic Butter). We arrived just before the dinner rush on a Saturday night our salads showed up quickly and was pretty tasty (I had Ceasar and wife house salad w/ ranch). Then our meat plates showed. I was pretty hungry so I was looking forward to the meal. This was where the meal went downhill for us. My meat was luke warm at best, the scoop of garlic/lemon butter DIDN'T melt at all!!! The servers made every attempt to not make eye contact with you to see if you needed anything it was rather odd. In hind sight i should have said something to the manager as I'm sure there is a temperature requirement for serving hot food by the health dept. Especially when the butter doesnt melt that should have said something. We also forgot to order some sides so I went back and ordered some garlic mash potato and some seasonal grilled veggies. That took a while to come to us as we had to ask the server (we were able to flag one down) to check on our order. When he did bring it, guess what? IT WAS WARM as well!! I was thinking to myself WTF is up with this place?!!?! Our kids were acting up so we quickly finished our meal and left vowing this will be the last time we will be eating at this place. When i got home i went to their corporate website to see if they had any contact info but to my surprise there wasnt. It hurts me to write this updated review, if only because if you look at the last review I wrote for SFG a few years back - you could see I was an obvious fan. Not only did I rave about them to all my friends/family, but also ensured that most of my office parties were catered with food from SFG. In any case, met up with a friend to have dinner here a week or so ago. He ordered a pizza thing and I ordered the Boneless Chicken Breast/Tritip Meal that came with a Caesar Salad and breadsticks. While my salad was great - perfectly seasoned and marinated - the breadsticks were hard and tough. Not chewy, flavorful or even buttery from the ones I remember I used to drool over. I actually had to let the breadsticks sit in the tritip sauce in an attempt to soften them up but gave up eating them after awhile since it lacked flavor. The chicken was cold. It was cooked, but it was probably between cold and warm. And really salty. I ordered the chicken with the lemon garlic flavor but I definitely did not taste any of the garlic from the sauce. It was forgettable and I only ate half of my chicken portion. The tritip on the other hand was great - but considering how bad the rest of my meal was - to say I was disappointed would be a understatement. What's worse was that my friend had never been to SFG before and had suggested to go elsewhere, but going off my multiple experiences with them over the years, I insisted that we went here for dinner. He took half of his pizza home and I couldn't tell if it was because he didn't like it or he was full. My family loved Stonefire Grill and I tried to ordered Family Meal. We are all disappointed with the outcome of their meat. Tritip was dried and lack of butter, Chicken breast with lemon garlic was so dried too and lack of lemon garlic. And the most awaited breadsticks were so hard and their dough was not fully fluffy and so hard to chew. I even gave a very generous gratuity for them. I hope they need to improve their cooking like the same as before. They are so in a hurry and they forgot the quality of their food..sorry i have to rate you below zero..very very unhappy read more

Nosh on! OK, so this is a review for the Pick Up service, not the Restaurant experience so much. We'd spent aWHILE shopping at CostCo around the corner (Yes, I know, it's always aWHILE shopping at CostCo....) and needed a good dinner. We needed Salad! Phone the order in while we were still at CostCo and it was all ready for us when we go there. No problem getting extra dressing. The servings are HUGE. I always order my salads "wet" because, indeed, I like a lot of dressing. Unlike my pookie who is a drier salad man. Super fast and great service. Will definitely be back. Waited in line for half an hour, none of the 3 lines moved even one person, seems like people don't look at the menu until i is their turn. Place was dirty, half the tables were not cleaned, the other half full with people waiting for food. I saw no food, other than one salad waiting to be picked up at the open kitchen. The huge salad selection sounded promising, but I was not that desperate and went to the California Fish Grill next door. Maybe some other time, for now weak sauce. read more

Today was my second time, they have a great lunch menu. Today started off as a terrible experience, it took them 25 minutes to make my salad. I had to go up and ask for it. I was pretty annoyed and ready to share my feelings with the manager. That's when the service went for poor to excellent. The server who was helping me offered us free cheese cake and then the manager refunded my money, all with out asking. They also stopped by later and made sure we didn't need anything less. I was ready to be done there but the way they handled the situation made me a loyal customer. Accidents happen, but their customer service shined through. Good job! read more

Employees that can even handle a basic delivery order and going through the checklist on a recipes. In 5 years I've been to this location three times and every time it's been a nightmare. Thanks to my co-worker who is a coupon whore and always looking for discounts on food, I now come here about twice a month because he told me that they have great deals! Stimulus Package = awesome!! A LOT of food for a great price. For two people, the food will last 2-3 days. I hope that they never get rid of this deal! Great idea to order this if you want to try a variety of thier menu. Pepper Garlic Tri Tip: tender and full of flavor. Best when cooked medium. I didn't care for the Mesquite BBQ one. Caesar Salad: One of the best Caesar salads in my book! They use good quality lettuce that is cut into perfect bite size pieces and the dressing tastes great, although I try not to go overboard on it. I love fresh salads! Breadsticks - definitely different from any other breadsticks I have tried. So good, but so bad at the same time! Customer service is always excellent. I have never had any problems with phoning in takeout orders, my food is always ready when promised! Great restaurant! Too bad they are only located in Southern California. read more

This place deserves 3.5 stars, but the service really sucked. For those who have never been here before, there are two cash registers dedicated to TAKE-OUT which you can access through the labeled doors. If you want to be seated, order at the main cash registers then be seated by the staff members. We were ordering for a family of five, and our cashier was incredibly unhelpful. We told him that we wanted a combination of chicken, tri-tip, and ribs, and he told us there is no such thing... until I found that exact option on the menu. Anyways I could go on, but I won't. For a family of five, we ordered a whole chicken, whole tri-tip, and full slab of ribs ($78.49) which comes with salad and breadsticks. Let's break it down: * Greek Salad - Overloaded with dressing but that's also how I like my salad so I could see how people could be split on this. * Chicken - We ordered half Mesquite BBQ and half Lemon Garlic Chicken. The BBQ chicken was tasteless but the Lemon Garlic one was very juicy and delicious. * Tri-Tip - We ordered half Mesquite BBQ and half Pepper Garlic. The tri-tip in general was very dry, though I was looking forward to this the most. Disappointing... but the Gorgonzola Butter that it comes with was worth it. * Ribs - Holy crap these are amazing. Definitely the best item out of the whole meal. * Breadsticks - Oh wait we never got our breadsticks until I realized this at the END of the meal but when we asked one of the waiters for them, he said that he could bring them if we still wanted them... umm YES we still want the breadsticks that we freaking paid for. Overall the food was full of hits and misses, but the service was totally a miss. I would say to hire smarter waiters, but they were still very nice so that's kinda mean to say. Seriously my parent's all-time favorite restaurant when they come to visit me. If you have a party of 3-4, try the Stimulus package!! Around $30 for small salad (decent size!), 2 topping pizza, garlic breadsticks, and a choice of tri tip or chicken (super tender). Salads and pizza can be upgraded with $1-$2 to ones already on their menu with better toppings! Usually I would upgrade the salad to the one with tri-tip! I like barbecue flavored tri-tip and chicken more than the garlic flavor. Garlic flavor is pretty bland to me.? Order first at the counter, then take the buzzer to any open table available. They'll bring you the food shortly after! Utensils, bbq sauce, and drinks are all self-serve in the back left of the room. ENJOY!!! read more

Ordinarily I have great experiences here. I usually order crowd pleaders, is time was no exception. I called around 3pm and asked how long it would take to prepare the larger one for 15-20 people. The girl asked someone else and came back with 20-30 minutes. Perfect! Because I want to pick it ip at 3:30. I placed my order and arrived at 3:35. Upon arrival at the Carry Out counter, it looked busy. Not a good sign. I scanned the kitchen area for a large order, saw 4 mashed potato containers and a number of large foil containers. Yay! Grab and go! NOT! The poor boy behind the counter was helping an obviously irritated lady. She exclaimed her final irritated statement and marched out with her food. GREAT! I'm next! Hold up poor boy behind the counter! Where the hell are you going? OMG! Will someone please ACKNOWLEDGE ME?! You know, the customer at the counter holding the wallet?? Ok, now I'm irritated and I no longer feel sympathy. I want to grab him by the shirt and scream GIVE ME MY DAMN FOOD! Finally another boy comes to help. He pleasantly reads back my order then proceeds to tell me they're waiting on a few more items. WHAT?!?! The chick on the phone said 20-30, I came 5 mins late and I STILL have to wait? Fine, I'm sure it will only be a FEW mins. My food that was supposed to be ready at 3:20-3:30 was given to me at 3-fricken-55. Seriously, that's ridiculous. Who can I punch? I want to punch someone. Better customer service people. Be realistic in time estimates. My car was running in the parking lot. You guys owe me some gas money. read more

Would of given it five stars but the person taking our order screwed it up they corrected it and got it all done food was good we had a family meal with the tritip. Tri-tip was excellent to the point that it's fork tender to eat. Clean place easy to get in and out of and the family size sides are definitely family sized. Pesto pasta and Caesar salad were great with the bbq tri-tip we had. read more
