My wife and I have either been to or taken out from StoneFire Grill in Irvine many times over the years. We went to StoneFire on Thursday, 8/27, for dinner at about 6:00 PM. They had outdoor seating only (which is why we decided to go to "dine-in"). All workers we saw were wearing masks and gloves. Ordering our food was same as always except they poured your drinks. Wife ordered a Tri-Tip Dinner and I ordered a Combo Tri-Tip and Ribs. Plenty of tables available on the patio; though, some were not shaded as well as others. The food was delivered to our table within expected time. Wife's dinner was very good. My ribs were a little over cooked (not as moist and fall off the bone as usual); but, not bad enough to send back. Service was very good until after everyone on the patio's food had been delivered; then, no one came out to check. This restaurant is a staple among many people I know- and it's a staple for me! The service is always fantastic. The restaurant is clean with great lighting. A very large amount of tables which can easily accommodate larger groups. There is a large parking lot and there always seems to be more than enough parking. I have enjoyed almost every single thing I've eaten here. Salad portions are extremely generous so anything over a "petite" size means that you may have trouble finishing your meal. The tri-tip, salmon, and chicken are always excellent. Their house bbq sauce is self serve and amazing to dip bread sticks in. If you're not careful, it is easy to over-eat here! Be careful walking to the bathroom. It's close to the entrance to the kitchen and usually the floor is a bit slippery. I am a huge fan of this place for their sandwiches and salads. Everything here always tastes really fresh and great quality ingredients. Once you arrive, you order at the counter, and someone will bring your food to your table. Don't laugh at me but I LOVE Caesar Salads and I love the caesar dressing at stonefire because of how garlicky it is. I went today with my husband and son. We give 5 stars for the customer service. Two employees were a stand out-Jose and Luz. They were helpful and attentive. They came by to ensure everything was ok and when my husband dropped his water cup on the floor, Jose quickly cleaned it up without hesitation. Before heading up to Mammoth, we stopped by for some quick sandwiches for the road. My friend suggested the bbq chicken. I'm not the biggest fan of bbq, but he said it was amazing, so I decided to try it out. He got some sauce on the side because he said there wasn't enough on the sandwich. I declined to follow suit, since I figured it would be enough as it stood. I was wrong. When I got my sandwich, I couldn't see any sauce at all. The wrap tasted like a seasonless salad in a tortilla. A few problems I had with this place for my first time visit. The food for my party came relatively fast but mine took a really long time. My coworker finished her meal before I even got mine. When I got my food, they had gotten my order wrong. I got garlic chicken instead of BBQ which I ordered. I had quinoa for my side and it took a really long time to come out as well. It came after I had finished my entree. With that said, they will receive a 4 star from me because the chicken I got was actually very delicious even though my order was wrong. And when they realized they gave me the wrong order and that it took so much time for me to receive my food, they apologized sincerely and gave me a gift card for my next return. Plenty of parking in the Target shopping center and their lunch specials are always good and inexpensive. Win/win. We were able to quickly order and get our food. I got the pesto pasta with a side of their breadsticks and it arrived quickly plus it was good. Even though it was a lunch special with a lunch side portion, it was still huge. I wonder how big their regular entrees are?? Customer service was also good. This review is for their catering service. I found out last minute on Monday that we needed to have lunch catered for our company on Tuesday - less than 24 hours notice. We have a usual group of restaurants we order from but they wanted something new, and the place had to deliver. I called Stonefire Grill and was happy to hear that their Irvine location would deliver all the way to Anaheim. I was transferred to their catering department and quickly placed my order. So happy they were able to accommodate a large order on such short notice. We ordered their Elly's Choice combo for 35 people, and also a side of coleslaw, thinking it might not be enough food. The combo comes with chicken, tri-tip, a bbq chopped salad, mashed potatoes, and breadsticks. The price, even with the delivery fee was very comparable to the other places we order from, and we got so much more food! The overall consensus was everybody enjoyed it and they want me to order from Stonefire again. The tri-tip (I went with BBQ) was GREAT, very juicy, and had a wonderful flavor on it's own, without the BBQ sauce. The BBQ sauce though, was also very tasty. Everybody loved it! The breadsticks were AMAZING and we had none left at the end of the day. The salad, cole slaw and mashed potatoes were also really good. The only thing that nobody really cared for was the chicken, I chose lemon garlic over BBQ, and it was very bland, had little flavor. Next time I would get BBQ chicken. We had about half of it leftover. My only other downside was when I placed the order I told them we were serving lunch at 11:30, so they said they would show up at 11:00 to setup. I was fine with that, but the delivery showed up at 10:40 and he was done setting up in about 10 minutes, so the food cooled off considerably by 11:30 when we served. Next time I will ask them to come later, lesson learned! The deliver guy, I THINK his name was Amir, was SO sweet, had a great personality, and was extremely helpful and nice to work with. Also smelt weird, which ruined the whole experience. Had to leave it after a couple of bites. Definitely would not recommend. 1/2 tri tip half and half medium done, felt ok, but DO NOT get the non bbq sauce flavour, it was not good. Maybe will try different items on the menu next time, if there's one. $50 for two people seems wasted when you can't eat the entree and had to leave almost all of it. Try the tomesto pasta--it's a split bowl, half is covered with their tomato sauce and the other half is mixed with their pesto sauce. The best of both worlds! Stonefire Grill is my family's favorite restaurant. The most surprising item on their menu to me is their Cobb Salad. It's standard in that it has hard boiled egg, blue cheese and bacon, but their dressing is a zesty olive oil vinaigrette instead of a standard ranch. We usually order it with tri tip and a side of ranch. Their vinaigrette dressing makes the whole salad. In every single bite you get equal parts of bacon, lettuce, egg, blue cheese and meat and to top it off, you taste the acidic and salty dressing. Besides the Cobb, everything else is great. Their Tomesto for the kids is super saucy and the pasta is perfectly al dente. Some other faves are their tri tip and lemon garlic chicken breast. All are tender and juicy and perfectly cooked each and every time. The one thing that I can do without are their bread sticks. It looks like it would be cheesy and flavorful, but for whatever reason, the coating/powder is pretty bland. There's always plenty of seating and parking and the entire staff is always friendly. You're a freaking restaurant and you're charging for extra dressing!??!! And if you're going to charge for the extra salad dressing at least fill up the container to the top and not halfway. After all you are charging me for it. Oh and I also was not given utensils for my food when I specifically asked for it there at the counter. It's small things like this that leave a bad taste in your customers mouth. We moved back to Irvine and decided to try the restaurant again. It seems it went downhill from what is used to be. I had the TriTip and it was hardly edible. Apparently whoever sliced it doesn't know it must be sliced against the grain and not with the grain. The result was the meat was tough and chewy. The garlic mashed potatoes were plentiful but cold and too salty. The baby back ribs were ok but the ends were inedible because they were overdone and almost burned. Entwined under the warm summer sun and the ocean breeze, a little American BBQ sounded appetizing for dinner, and an excellent beginning to transition into a new month. We were actually deciding on Lucille's, then realized the long wait for the weekend was not nearly worth it for a well known chain, so my friend suggested Stonefire Grill that was close to his house. Upon entrance I was dazed that ordering was upon the front instead of being waited. If you have dined at Shakey's pizza parlour, expect Stonefire Grill to be just the same. We ordered half baby back ribs, and tri-tips, and a plate of BBQ chicken which both comes with your choice of salad starter. We both chose the cartwheel based on recommendation by one of the workers. To my surprise however, the cartwheel salad was phenomenal,and full of bursting flavour! I appreciated the abundance of beets, radishes, garbanzo beans, and tortilla strips mixed with the salad making it a hearty start. This was a definite favourite that I like to ask for to-go on quick lunch runs. The baby back ribs were sooo tender; for someone who rarely consumes meat, I was a fan of this meal! The meat practically falls right off the bone; I can tell this was cooked just right. The tri-tip was flawlessly medium rare along with soft texture. I called to place a to go order and the representative I talked to was nice like always but when I arrived and parked at the curbside to go parking I was met by Melinda shaking her head saying no i don't think she wanted to me to park there i don't know what was going on in her head but then I told her I have a to go order and she gave me a dirty look like fine I'll help you. Her demeanor was definitely not friendly. After she went to get my ticket and I handed her my card as she was walking away she yelled at me and said are you going to give a tip and I usually do but I was so pissed off at the way she was being that I said no. When she came back to give me my card and receipt she didn't even say thank you or have a great day she just handed it to me and walked away. I have gone to Stonefire in fountain valley for the last 7 years and have never experienced anything but pleasant workers. This is my first time visiting this location since I was close by and didn't want to drive to Fountain Valley since I was coming from Silverado Canyon. As you can see most of the reviews I usually write are good ones and I haven't written a review in a very long time but this definitely called for one. If your going to have someone outside greeting customers I would highly recommend someone who actually loves there job and has a smile on their face who makes you feel inviting and easy not someone who makes you rethink if you should have even ordered here. The worker who was taking our order helped us decide between two different kinds of pizza. *Note: There is an option of doing half and half for the pizza! (WOOT WOOT!) Decor (3.5 star): The decor of Stonefire Grill is very casual with tables and booths throughout the restaurant. There is a patio area for anyone who would like to dine outside and to enjoy a beautiful day. Food: So, my buddies and I shared a 16 inch pizza for dinner which comes in 8 slices. For one half of the pizza we ordered Mesquite BBQ chicken (4 star) and the other half Stonefire's Favorite (5 star). The Mesquite BBQ chicken had Gouda cheese, cilantro, and red onions which tasted very yummy. The cheese was super duper cheesy and it strings down as you take each bite of the pizza. For the Stonefire's Favorite pizza it had homemade pesto, avocado, red onions, mozzarella, leta cheese, and fresh basil. This pizza was delicious and unique! I did really like this place. I thought the service was pretty good, and the food was pretty good. It was a little on the pricey side, but this is generally consistent with the rest of Southern California. It is an interesting layout, instead of sitting down and a waiter coming to get your order, instead you order by going up the the front and ordering. The plates and dishware and condiments are on the far back side, you need to cross to the other side of the restaurant to get something unless you're sitting on the far side. Really I think they should have put these things somewhere in the middle. The menu has a lot of good things on it, and the restaurant is very clean and new. Of course, you can also choose to sit on the outside patio to take advantage of the gorgeous southern california weather. It is not too loud and not too busy. All in all, I would recommend coming here at least once. It's a decent place and worth coming to. When I went, we ordered a pizza and salads. It was pretty good. I read all the reviews and I was pretty excited to try this place, however I'm not sure if I just came on an off day or if I expected more given the high reviews. We came here and got the not so secret stimulus package: -1lb tri tip or chicken -breadsticks -1 2 topping pizza -choice of salad from the 4 top selections It was $28.99, which isn't a bad deal at all (I was expecting it to be $40, not sure why). You order at the front, pay, and you're given a little ringer thing. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that you don't even have to get up to get your food, they bring you your food to your table. That was pretty cool considering I was expecting it to buzz. At first, our pizza came out (sausage and pepperoni). It was a bit smaller than I expected - 6 slices to share with 4 people, but man this pizza was actually quite delicious. It was greasy in all the right ways, with a flavorful tomato base and just the right saltiness on top. The crust was thin and perfectly baked so that it was chewy enough to support the toppings and yet still had a nice crispiness to it. I was pretty hyped for the rest of the food to come - I mean, the pizza was delicious and this place was not known for this dish. However, when everything else came, I was pretty disappointed. The breadsticks came next and I was expecting to be delicious given both the yelp reviews and how great the pizza crust itself was. However, these came out both cold and bland. They were rather tasteless and just felt like empty carbs. The garden salad we got wasn't great either. The salad had wilted pieces of lettuce scattered around and it was absolutely drenched in the salad dressing. I really hate wasting food, but we left a good majority of it uneaten. The hero of the meal was suppose to be the tri tip. We ordered it medium rare and sadly, it came out to be medium well. The meat was too overcooked to my liking and left it dry :( read more
