One star off because it was pretty smoky in there, like they need to open a window or get better ventilation. FYI You order your food at a counter right when you walk in and pay right then. That means later, if you decide you want something else or desert, you need to get up and go order it at the front. If you want plates, utensils, a to-go box, you go get it yourself over by the soda. The food at stone fire grill never disappoints, but there have been unpleasant changes. Because of COVID-19, I haven't had the chance to go dine-in and I live far, so I was incredibly excited when my friend said that she was close to the restaurant and could order food to go. Finally, after months of not enjoying one of my favorite restaurants, I was going to enjoy a Caesar salad with salmon and mashed potatoes. As you can see by the photos, their portions are way less than before. I paid 17 dollars for that salad...and the piece of salmon was incredibly small. To top it off, the mashed potatoes came in the same container as the Caesar dressing. I was so disappointed and, to be frank, if I'm paying over 20 dollars for a meal, I would expect that my side wouldn't be in a dressing container. The food here was good. Not great. I had a Traditional Greek Salad and it tasted fresh. The dressing was light. It was good but not spectacular. I also had ordered a bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup but it never came out (even though I had paid for it). I asked three different servers to check on it for me, and I still never received it. I finally just asked for a refund for the soup and I received my money back for the soup only. Nothing was comped for us as a token of good gesture for our trouble. My family was invited to the soft opening on February 3 for dinner. While waiting in line to enter we were offered warm breadsticks by the team members. Management was also there greeting guests and telling us about the menu items. As you enter the restaurant you place your order from the menu above the cashiers. The menu items are clearly described with a variety of sizes to choose from. We had the opportunity to taste a number of dishes. Our first item was a spinach salad with tri tip, served in a cold stainless steel bowl. The salad was very fresh with a delicious house made dressing. The Stonefire Favorite is a pizza with pesto sauce and topped with slices of avocado and red onion. I see why this is called a favorite, the pizza crust is wonderful, the pesto is light, the addition of creamy avocados balance it out perfectly. The main course we chose was the tri tip/lemon garlic chicken breast combo platter. Tri tip was pink and tender, the chicken breast is delicious, with a wonderful light lemon sauce. A dense deep chocolate brownie for dessert ended our perfect meal. The team members are helpful and very energetic. This is a great place for all family members to dine. read more

When I used to live in Irvine, Stonefire Grill was always my go-to restaurant - whether it was for family/friends visiting, lunch with coworkers, and even for take out! Sad to say I moved a few years ago and haven't been since. Fast forward to 2 years later.. and I couldn't believe they were opening up a location in Torrance! Yes!! Stonefire isn't like a typical dine-in restaurant. First, you order up front and pay (love this because it expedites the process) then you get handed a buzzer and choose where you want to sit. I went on Saturday during lunch time so it was pretty busy with a party of 30 pretty much taking over half the restaurant. Because of this, they had a hostess scanning through the restaurant and reserving seats prior to ordering. Usually, that's not the case and you find your own seats. Everything is pretty much self served. You get your own plates, utensils, napkins, condiments, drinks, etc. In a few minutes, your food arrives! For a very busy Saturday I was surprised to see our food ready in about 10-15 minutes. This shows how well prepared the restaurant is. I love it! Food: My boyfriend and I shared the Tri Tip for 2 meal which includes 1/2 tri tip, small salad, small side, and 4 breadsticks all for $20. What a steal!! At first we were concerned it wouldn't be enough food but it was way more than enough for 2 people to share. This is my absolutely favorite place to get tri tip - way better than those barbecue joints like Lucilles or Dickey's. It's full of flavor, moist, and tender. I'm drooling just thinking about it! I'm also a big fan of their caesar salad (at least the Irvine location) because I found the dressing to have chunks of parmesan cheese and garlic, however, the dressing at this location had less cheese and seemed to be more oily which I didn't like. The breadsticks are always great especially with the house sauce. Never thought breadsticks would go well with a sweet sauce but hey it works here! The mashed potatoes (side item) was a bit too dry for my liking. I prefer creamy mashed potatoes with a side of gravy but that's just personal preference. I love that you don't have to wait for a check and feel obligated to tip (even though you should because of their superb food/service). You can just leave whenever! Overall, we had a pleasant experience and all of the workers are so attentive and helpful. For a restaurant that just opened a few weeks ago, you guys are doing amazing! Nope. Haven't been here in a long time, and after last night doubt I will return. Ordered take out at 439pm, was quoted 15-20 minutes, to wait in my car and they will bring it out. Many people were receiving their orders during my wait. At 5pm I went inside to check, my sandwich and ribs were on the counter, was told they were just waiting on my sides, (1 garlic mash, 1 mac&cheese). It would be just a few minutes and they would bring it out. How long could that take right? At 520 I again went in, was told they "were just waiting on your sides". I reminded the clerk that she had just told me that 20 minutes earlier - it's only mashed potatoes and mac and cheese! By now my sandwich and ribs had been sitting on the counter for at least half an hour. She replied curtly "well, we're busy". WOW - really? Your 20 minute quote turned into 50 minutes, and most of that spent waiting for 2 small side orders! Finally handed my bag at 525pm, no apology, no thank you for waiting, no sorry it took so long, nothing. just "here you go". Well, there I go indeed. We walk in only to find out it wasn't a sit down restaurant, instead you order at the counter and then find a seat with the food brought out to you. I ordered the barbecue tri-tip and ribs with a side green salad. We also ordered an individual order of hummus. The food came out FAST. Too fast for it being BBQ meat. The hummus was very cold and not creamy, pretty bland. Salad was decent and well dressed. The meat was all very dry and bland, no flavor what so ever. Not warm nor cold, just kind of there. Tonight's experience was rather strange and I am not used to having my plates taken away while I am still eating. My question is was there a shortage of plates in the restaurant or was the dishwasher ready to be sent home early? I am not sure what has happened here but I am not sure I want to return to this location going forward. The food was not up to its usual standards. My mashed potatoes were lukewarm and I asked for my tri-tip medium well to get medium rare. I think the help was more concerned getting the tables cleaned off than making sure we were happy with our food. It's not like it is late....at 8:00 pm I would expect better service. Ate here for the first time. Probably won't return. The order was taken at 5:39 pm (per receipt). You order when you arrive and seat yourself. The cashier Roman was very friendly and even doubled checked that the roasted cauliflower was pepper free. When the food arrived, only part of our order was ready - the 6 oz tri-tip with mashed potatoes and my dinner salad. The server (wish I knew his name) was very nice and apologized if the tri-tip wasn't hot and offered to have it remade. Apparently, it had been sitting for a bit. He also explained that the kitchen was behind and the roasted cauliflower was delayed but would be coming soon. Tri-tip meal was eaten and I was almost done with my small salad and no cauliflower. The servers are more like friendly expediters, they bring the food but they don't return to check on you or to make sure you have everything you need. I went to the kitchen/server area and asked another server about my cauliflower. It was going to be about another 20 minutes because other people had come in and ordered. WHAT??? My item was now at the back of the line. I said I don't want it now. He got the manager. I explained that this is no way to run a business. He said he would refund me and I can still have the item... in 20 minutes. No thank you. He really didn't seem to understand or care that I had already waited 30 minutes for an item and they wanted me to wait for another 20 while other guests were being served who ordered after us. He was busy, in hurry, and just wanted to take of the refund and didn't care about having a return guest. BTW, when we looked at the receipt after leaving, the tri-tip was supposed to come with 2 breadsticks. They never showed up either. I worked in food service for years and this is the wrong way to do things. The tri-tip was nothing to write home about and the mashed potatoes were dry. Sent it back for re fire but seems it went in a micro. Tri tip came back like rubber. My mash potatoes came cold and chalky. My son ordered a pepperoni pizza that was actually cooked. If you enjoy cold food, being ignored by staff and forgotten about by management, you'll have the time of your life in here. Having to pay upfront means that unless something is finally being served to you (our plates came 30 minutes apart from each other anyway, so me and my husband didn't get to eat at the same time), no one will give you the time of day. After complaining about the unreasonably long delay, we were offered a complimentary dessert by the manager, who forgot about that too. Had it been a different restaurant who doesn't force you to pay before even seeing where you'll get to sit, and had my husband not already eaten his meal before mine arrived, I would have demanded a refund. It is ALWAYS crowded, but their execution of service and food has always been perfect. Love that they have lots of staff to help greet customers at the door. Do NOT be worried about the lines. It may seem like it will take forever to be seated and eat but you will be in and eating and out before any traditional seated restaurant. In the line there are Menus to think about your order. Also one of the staff starts to find and reserve your party a table as you get close to placing your order. Once you place your order and pay, you find your table with your name, go get drinks and utensils. Food is delivered to your table very quickly. I personally love all their chopped salads and they have never over dressed them. All other items are excellent. Plenty of choices for vegetarians and vegans. But their tri-tip and meat sandwiches are what I recommend. Very reasonably priced. I would recommend leaving a small tip on the tables. All the staff hustle hard. read more

So glad this great chain is expanding! The food is consistently delicious and they offer a diverse and flavorful menu. The bbq tri-tip and chicken breast are my favorites though.
