Took the family here for the first time after reading the reviews on yelp. We were confused at first because the line was very long when we got there. We asked the hostess how long the wait was and she said there was no wait. You order at the front of the line, like a fast food restaurant. Then you go sit down and they bring you the food. I personally, would prefer to be seated first, review the menu, and when ready, order. Much better than being put "on the spot" to quickly come up with what everyone in your party wants to eat, having never been there before, while standing in line with a bunch of hungry people behind you wishing you would hurry up. Getting past that... the food was great. We had the Mediterranean salad and the half tri tip along with a pepperoni pizza for the kids. The portions are pretty large. We will be back and get the larger portion of tri tip and try some of the other meats. read more

Rarely do I review a place after one visit. I usually like to give a restaurant an additional try or two before posting, but my biggest complaint is not something that will change - it's the counter service. The way the restaurant is set up is there's a giant sign behind the front counter, just like McDonalds. Once you place your order, the food is brought to your table. Our meal for the two of us was over $40. I guess that's not too expensive for our area, but it is too expensive to be treated as if you are in a fast food restaurant. At that price I expect to be waited on. I had the Salmon dinner with a side of garlic mashed potatoes. My salmon was light pink, which makes me believe it was farmed raised, rathermwild. It was good, but I really couldn't taste the salmon. Fortunately the lemon garlic chicken sauce was good. I sure couldn't taste much garlic in the garlic mash potatoes. It was bland, actually except for the few scallions that were sprinkled on top. For dessert I had the blueberry cheesecake. The blueberry compote was delicious, but the cheesecake was way too dense. It was almost like eating a hunk of cheese. It didn't have much flavor either. My husband had the Mediterranean Chicken bowl. He said it was okay, but not very flavorful. He wound up mixing everything up together in tahini just so there was some flavor too it. For dessert he had the carrot cake, which was pretty good. It was a giant size which made me glad I only got a half slice of cheesecake. It would have been a waste had I ordered a larger piece. I would have given it a 3 star experience, but I'm still flabbergasted by the fast food method of ordering. We'll probably give it another chance, though I'm not sure when since there are many far superior restaurants in the immediate area. read more

I wish I could understand what all the noise is about this place. A few weeks ago, my husband and I wandered into here to "give it a try." Overpriced, bland, oddly made food. I had the half chicken (plain because I couldn't do the sauce) and he had the "soy glazed salmon." His came with a "Caesar Salad" and mine with potatoes. Both came with bread sticks. The salad was ENTIRELY lackluster. Almost no flavor at all. My husband and I are "foodies" and we can MAKE a gorgeous, delicious Caesar salad ten times better than this place. The mashed potatoes were FULL of salt. Just salt on top of salt. Although, these were the only things that I sort of enjoyed. The "Bread sticks" (Apparently a staple item for this place) were a yeasty, doughy mess. We tried several of them to be sure it wasn't just the one, and let me tell you... What the heck? Who wants a bread stick that tastes like under cooked beer and doesn't have a crispy or well cooked outside? MY chicken was completely flavorless. Now look, I understand... You're going to say, well, you got it without sauce, and you'd be correct, but here's my deal... if naked meat isn't even a little salted or something... then I just think you're doing something wrong. Meant should be good without drowning it in some sauce. Then the "WORST" offense of all... the "soy glazed salmon" (Don't recall the actual name...) was a slab of badly cooked salmon drenched in... salad dressing... yes. I had to take a bite of it to be certain. It was absolutely, unmistakably, salad dressing... What in the world? Why does this place get such rave reviews? To top it all off? We paid a ridiculous amount of money for this garbage. Some leaves with a plop of tasteless dressing and some croutons, salad dressing drenched, badly cooked salmon, half a flavorless chicken, yeasty, disgusting bread sticks, and salty potatoes. I think he paid 45$... NO... thank you. Lastly, the menu is CONFUSING. You do get this, you don't get that, there's a side, but the side is bread sticks... Come again? The poor girl explaining it to us looked lost and confused herself. TO BE FAIR, we did NOT try the pizza... but we won't be back to. :P read more

Had the Cobb Salad. It was fresh and all of it's components were uniformly chopped and lightly coated with dressing. One of the best Cobb Salads I've ever had. Sandy's Cookie was a giant chocolate chip cookie. That was pretty good, but my bro had the Carrot Cake. The Carrot Cake was as good as, if not better than the J.Paul Getty Museum Carrot Cake! I just had the most wonderful experience at the Stonefire Grill in Torrance. First off, the selection of food is great. Fortunately it's delicious too. I had the grilled salmon, the roasted cauliflower and a salad. You'll be pleased to know, the menu is reasonably priced. Though the best thing about this restaurant is the service. It felt like an Army of servers tended to us with smiles and concern. Even the Supervisor, Clinton, made the time to swing by and make sure we were completely satisfied with our overall experience. Just driving around & thought to give Stonefire Grill, a try. Well it's a bit cafeteria still. In that you get your own utensils, napkins, drinks ext. the do bring your meal. It did take a bit getting the hang of ordering, which btw is fine right as you enter at the front. A huge menu is in front of you on the wall. Anyway, once you get the handle on ordering, as mentioned already. It's cake. The food itself was good, descent size portions, priced well. For the two of us, $39.00. That's not bad for a nice mid week dinner. Oh yea, the place is super clean, great restroom facilities & the restaurant itself is large. No trouble for seating, even a group of say 30, 40 could easily be accommodated. Lastly the staff! Super nice & very helpful. A solid 4 1/2 our of 5 Stars. read more

Decided to try this place out due to the "hype" of it being so great. First impression upon walking in of having to order your food before being seated, I guess not too bad, but a bit confusing since people present it more of a restaurant type more than a self serve place. We ordered the All American Cheeseburger and Tri-Tip Petite. The Tri tip ordered medium. The food came, it looked decent. Took a bit into the burger and it was undercooked. It was still red meat inside. The Tri-tip, it was over cooked. It was more well done than anything. Never got around to ask any of the waitering staff since no one was walking around near our area. With this to say, we left no tip and won't be coming back here anytime soon. read more

I've always been curious about Stonefire...it's a bit hectic when you first come in and line up to order. They have a huuuggee menu, so you might not be decided by the time you're in the front. Then the workers find a seat for you, if you're in a big group. They had a two for $20 when I went (small salad, tri-tip and garlic bread sticks). We also ordered a large pizza (half bbq chicken and combo). Everything was actually pretty good for the price. The salad that came with the deal was actually pretty big...it fed about 5 people. The trip tip was tender and flavorful. Bread sticks were light, buttery and garlicky. Pizza was cheesy, airy and just the right texture. Also,their carrot cake is no joke the best I have had! Oh well, still no great BBQ place in the area, but this one is okay. The chicken was pretty good and the ribs were fair and the tri-tip was surprisingly moist without being fatty. The BBQ sauce sucks out loud and the mashed potatoes just don't quite work and come on, no hot links? The salads aren't bad and are creative but are a little light on the featured proteins. The price was a little higher than average but the portions are sized so that a light or medium eater will get two meals out of one order. I am extremely devastated with my experience at Stonefire grill. I placed an order at 5 pm for curbside pick up and arrived to pick up at 5:35 pm. I called and was told my food was going to come out already, 10 minutes pass and no one came out. We give a call back and we're informed that our food would be out in 10 minutes and of course 10 minutes pass and no one comes out. My husband had to get out the car in the rain to go inside to find that his pizza had been sitting there and was now cold. Needless to say we left without our pizza because that is unacceptable! Don't come here because your food won't be ready on time and apparently curbside is pointless. read more

I thought this place was a sit down and waiter/waitress serves you , but you actually walk into place your order at the counter as you walk in & the menu is above the counter like fasts food places however the layout much nicer then a fast food place and it's a bit of a longer wait for the food . You get your own drinks , plates, utensils and find your table. Went with a group and tried some of the other's meals . Tomesto- whichever is half the plate is Pesto pasta and the half if plate is Marinara pasta- was average , Mac & cheese - ok , mesquite barbecue boneless chicken- it was tender ! , tri -tip - sliced thin It's was a bit dry and since it was so thinly slice it felt like it should be in a sandwich. Garlic mashed potatoes - it was very dry and it has pieces of garlic so if you like that... baked beans - wasn't the best. Breadsticks- ok kinda dry , Brownie - looks better then it tasted as well as the cookie . I typically love brownies and cookies too. I'm giving three stars because I was not impressed with their main food selections, however it wasn't overall & definitely better quality then typical fast food and I did have & enjoyed their pizza was only pepperoni but did like it , it was perfectly cooked wasn't cooked under wasn't cooked too much , sauce was perfectly on there as well as cheese and pepperoni so they definitely got the pizza down right. When the service brought out other people's pizza they have a lot of different types to order and they all looked really good. so I would definitely come back for the pizza only with salad .... I did have a Caesar salad as well and it was good. And They have a good selection of different salads to choose from so I will probably come back to try to different their salads as well. The atmosphere was very open had both booths and tables able to accommodate large parties. Very nice and clean and it's loud , you really can only have a conversation with the person next to you. The servers are nice , feel kind of sorry for them because they probably really don't make much tips even though they come around and ask you if they can get you anything and I clean up your table , since you order at the front counter I imagine some people probably don't tip them. read more

This was my first visit to Stonefire Grill. It was unexpectedly a cross between a fast food and a sit down restaurant because it looks like a sit-down restaurant before you get inside. However, upon entry you order off the menu screens behind the cashiers, a la McDonald's. Then your meal is delivered to your table (a la Carl's Jr.). I ordered the barbecue chicken wrap which was nothing memorable. Small portions. Drinks, napkins, flatware, etc are self serve. The prices were very reasonable. I guess that's the trade-off. Overall, my first experience was a bit disappointing. But, on a positive note, every staff member I encountered was very friendly and helpful. read more

This is a great family restaurant. They serve the BEST tortilla soup. One of our favorite dishes is the marinara cauliflower. I can eat the entire serving. We enjoyed everything we ordered so far. The tri-tip is so delicious, one bite and we are hooked. I'm not crazy about beef, but I love their tri-tip. Their garlic cheese bread sticks are amazing also. We like the open kitchen setting because we want to see 1) how clean the kitchen is, and 2) how food is prepared and handled. The dining area is cozy and spacious. The place is clean, staff is friendly, food is delicious, service is great, but most importantly the price is very reasonable. It's a keeper. read more

I'm on the fence with this concept. Fast casual in a nice location and in a huge space. I can see families coming here because of the family style portions or large groups of friends getting together for a meal. Lunch time definitely works but dinner might not be the best atmosphere. This seems like a great addition to the area but you get a slight cafeteria feel having to get your own utensils, plastic plates, paper napkins and soft drinks from the soda machine. The food is brought to your table and presented nicely which adds to my confusion. They sell beer and wine which is a plus and they also have $2 corkage! I think the next time I come I'll go with a bunch of friends and order BBQ, pasta and side dishes and bring a nice Cab and Pinot and see how things go. Our family has been eagerly anticipating the opening of Stonefire Grill! We had gone to the Irvine restaurant and have eaten their catered food many times. My kids were especially looking forward to their breadsticks! Tonight I was running late and decided to get some takeout. Stonefire Grill to the rescue! First of all, they have plenty of parking spaces dedicated for takeout orders. Love it! Second, they have a separate entrance for takeout orders. Love it more! Especially since there is always a nice sized line to get into the dine-in area of the restaurant. By the way, the dine-in line moves very well so don't let the line deter you from sitting down and enjoying a meal! I ordered a family meal that came with the aforementioned breadsticks and a very large salad. We selected the Cartwheel salad that came with radishes, beets, garbanzo beans, olives and diced fresh tomatoes. YUM! We love their barbeque and all the side options. The tri-tip was well seasoned and the ribs were very meaty! As I was waiting for my order, the friendly staff made me feel welcome and at home. Dina was especially friendly and cheerful. The staff seemed to genuinely happy to be working there and their energy definitely made my wait go by quickly. Oh, and I even got to meet the famous, Tim from Tina N.'s review! I haven't been there in person, but we had a catering order delivered yesterday for a group of 20 and it went off without a hitch. The ordering process was very fast and efficient and the food was delivered as promised and on time. Very reasonable prices for catering with a nice variety of entrees and sides. Everyone in our group was very happy with the meal and we certainly plan on using there services again. Our meal included tri tip and bbq chicken breast along with mac & cheese, potato salad, beans, pesto pasta salad, garden salad, breadsticks as well as each of their desserts - brownies, cheesecake, and carrot cake. Really decent food for a good value! I love the bbq tri-tip! I haven't tried the other flavors it comes in but the bbq has been so good that I can't bring myself to try the others! It's always been very juicy and tender whenever I've come--how do they do that?? With a larger sized group you can order one of the dinner combo specials and it's a GREAT deal! We got the Stonefire favorite, which was a whole tri-tip or ribs (but I had to have the tri-tip!), a whole chicken (you can do half and half flavors), a whole two topping pizza (you can also do half and half pizzas), a salad, and breadsticks. We ordered two extra pasta dishes because we had 11 people and the dinner combo said it fed 6. Well we had plenty of food and some to spare! I would've loved more tri-tip but it was a favorite! They don't overload it with bbq sauce either but you can get some extra at the serve yourself soda and utensils area! The pasta was nice and al dente also! The rigatoni that had half marinara and half pesto was very good--I usually prefer meat but it didn't need it. Great for big groups or just your fam! The Breadsticks were awesome, however, the appetizer Meatballs were just average and came at the end of our meal. Been driving by on Crenshaw for a few weeks and finally had a chance to try it last night. So glad we did. It was a little confusing at first when walking in the door. It's a sit down restaurant where waiters bring you your food but you order first at the counter like a fast food place. It's a good thing there was a line because the menu is extensive and it took some time for us to decide what to get. Felt some pressure to get our orders ready because the line moves fairly quickly. One nice service is that unlike a fast food restaurant they found tables for us because it was so busy. No hunting down tables. We ordered the tri tip and ribs combo, the French dip sandwich and kid's mac and cheese. The French dip was outstanding. The meat is cut thicker than I've seen for a French dip sandwich but it was so tender. Not tough at all. And it was a great value for $9 because there was a huge amount of meat in the sandwich. The tri tip and ribs combo meal was also a very good value. Got a Caesar's salad and two breadsticks with it. Loved the breadsticks. Great flavor and not just two sticks of bland bread. The caesars salad was very tasty. Fairly large portion too for a side salad. The meats were terrific. Again large portion for the price. Easily enough for two people. The ribs were not too saucy which is always a plus for me since I usually prefer dry rub in my bbq. The tri tip was mostly tender though it had some tough gristle in a few pieces. I liked the horseradish sauce on top. The mac and cheese surprisingly came out last. Maybe it took more time to cook the pasta? Unfortunately it was for the youngster and she had to share everybody else's food before her own plate came out. But at least it was very hot and fresh. The garlic mashed potatoes is VERY garlicky. I was tasting garlic in my mouth the rest of the night. But that's okay because I love garlic but others may not be as appreciative. The service was friendly and there were lots of waiters around so it was easy to find help. Unfortunately because I'm used to leaving a tip in the credit card, and I already paid up front where there is no tip line on the card receipt, I forgot to leave a tip when I walked out the door. I didn't realize until later that I didn't leave a tip for our excellent waiters. So sorry about that if any of them are reading this review. But we will definitely come back again. read more

ZERO Stars but wouldn't let me post without at least one.... We ordered food online today at noon for our family and an elderly couple to drop off for their Easter Dinner. After the order was placed we received a confirmation for 5:00 pickup. At 4:30 we received a call to let us know sorry we ran out of food - I can give you a refund or substitute for chicken breasts because that is all we have left. I know times are tough but last minute call on a special day that is going to impact two families is not appreciated. We called around several places and was told that they stopped taking orders and then called Joey's BBQ and luckily they were able to help us out! I'll be sure to take my business there from now on! read more
