Husband and I tried Stones Throw in downtown Cape Coral tonight for the first time. All I can say is WOW! As soon as we arrived, we knew something big was happening at the bar area. Turns out they have an incredible happy hour, but we were truly interested in dinner... So we asked for a table. The interior at Stone Throw is beautiful, well decorated, and in a great location on Cape Coral Parkway with ample parking. Our waiter, Shawn, was quick to greet us and offer drinks. Husband had some beer questions, and Shawn was ready with answers/suggestions. Being a red wine girl, I happily ordered a bottle from their ample list. We started with an appetizer of brussels sprouts. They were absolutely amazing with pecans... Not something we have had before. Highly recommend. I opted for their prime fillet, Husband had steak Diane. I cannot say enough good about these steaks. We've been to some of the best stake establishments from Naples to Punta Gorda, this ranks right up there! I did get the lobster tail add on, it was the most flavorful lobster tail I ever had in southwest Florida. Overall, one of the better meals we have had in our years of living in SWFL. Shawn kept our drinks (and waters) full, and was absolutely charming during our entire experience. He was always watching and nearby, but not obtrusive. He packed our leftovers for us, and then bagged the containers. Great touch, Shawn! Kudos to the manager who walks around to tables and asks about your meal, what brings you in, and if there's anything he can do to make your trip more enjoyable. Fabulous touch! Stones Throw had been on my list for a while, so I finally stopped in on a weeknight around dinner time. The place was beautifully decorated, and there was live music, saxophone player which definitely added to the vibe. We were seated outside, likely due to how busy it was. There was also a large wedding party, maybe 15 people or more, taking up a section outside. Our server was managing both that party and our table, and while he was friendly and clearly doing his best, the service just didn't land. It took a while for things to get moving. He brought the menus, but it was a long time before he returned. Drinks took over 20 minutes to come out. Bread came after the drinks, but with no plates or silverware, so we had to eat it with our hands. Not ideal. That said, the espresso martini was excellent--no complaints there. When the food came out, the presentation was beautiful, and everything tasted fresh and well-executed. That part of the meal definitely hit the mark. But then it took just as long to get the check, and by that point, the waiting added up. One small but noticeable issue was the smell of the table and menus--it gave off that old rag scent, which pulled me out of the otherwise upscale experience. I think this place has a lot of potential. The atmosphere is great, the food is solid, and the concept is there. But based on this visit, I would like to see sharper execution on the service side before I'd give it a higher rating. I will return. read more

Finally made it to stones throw! I wanted to try the sizzle dining menu so I gathered my best mates and we headed out on the town. I started off with some drinks like an espresso martini and the watermelon sugar high. Both were really good! For sizzle they offered a 39$ 3 course menu. To start I had the Brussels sprouts. I don't typically eat them or would order them so I was excited to give it a try! They were actually really good, super crisp on the outside and great flavor. May enter with the filet tips and pesto tortellini. It was so good! Pesto sauce is my favorite so I will never pass it up. Highly recommend!! For dessert I had the salted caramel cheesecake. Which was good but very heavy on the salted caramel so I didn't finish it. Overall I really enjoyed our night there and it's the perfect vibe for a girls night out or dinner with the friends. read more

Our daughter made us reservations for 6pm last night to celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary we arrived by 5:40pm greeted at the door by mai trade who walked us to a table next to the evening performer we asked for another seat and agreed to patio then seated at the street table not ideal! We considered leaving when our server Jackson arrived he was very personable chatted up the menu and the business made suggestions. We ordered our drinks tried "the glass" very good. The mood of disappointment lessened thanks to Jackson so we ordered dinner the Elk Rack & Short Ribs both very good and nice portion. In the end I am still upset about the seating as we were done with dinner by 7:15 and there was still plenty of table options but the notes they are catering to groups of 4 or more. Our first visit at Stones Throw and we were not disappointed. I opted to try it out for my birthday. We arrived just before 5pm on a Fri nite and the bar was packed, not a seat to be had. While it was in the middle of happy hour, I expected at 6pm it would clear out some but ironically, only two seats were open. That indicates a loyal patronage beyond happy hour specials! We had our own table and enjoyed the atmosphere. We ordered the filet and scallop entrees and both were very tasty. The alcoholic beverages were very good as well. Our waiter, Brandon, was outstanding. Very nice young man and the manager came to speak to us a couple of times during dinner. They were accommodating enough to offer dessert for my birthday. That was a nice touch...thank you! We stayed long enough to listen to the saxophone player and enjoyed that as well. We look forward to returning! The bar was filled when we arrived about 530pm on a Friday night, so we sat outside on the patio which was nice and grateful we were not being hit with the sun beaming on our face. Service was good as well as the food. We got the tuna poke appetizer, the steak tip pesto tortellini & ny strip. My husband prefers a bit more sear to his steak, but he enjoyed it otherwise. Surprised creamed spinach was not an option as a side, that's our go to every time we go out for steak ! My pasta dish was good but it wasn't anything special or memorable. I would be interested in trying another dish next visit. Great drinks. We had a couple rounds at the table and then one after dinner at the bar, love the ambiance inside. The space is attractive and clean, with a very cool bar area. When we arrived, no one was at the hostess stand, but a server stepped in and seated us at a high-top near the bar. Our server was terrific--warm, friendly, and full of smiles. We started with cocktails; my old-fashioned was heavy on the bitters but still drinkable. The calamari appetizer was fantastic, though the sweet red sauce it comes with wasn't my favorite--I would have much preferred cocktail sauce. For entrees, we each ordered steaks. My New York strip, with garlic mashed potatoes and broccolini, was perfectly cooked and seasoned but far too tough to be a prime cut. My friend's ribeye was thin, overcooked, and just as tough. For steaks priced and represented as prime, these did not measure up. On the bright side, the live music on a Wednesday night was a nice touch, and the overall vibe was enjoyable. Thea greeted us, seated us quickly, and let us know that it was "Date Night", with a special menu. Basically $100 for a very nice wine (Daou, a Paso Robles Cabernet), an appetizer each (Tomato, Mozzarella Burrata, and Pesto on bruschetta), a shared LARGE 20 oz. Prime Rib with Boursin Mashed Potatoes and Asparagus, and a shared oBrownie ala mode with Caramel for dessert. It was GOOD, all of it. The starter was perfect, the Asparagus was al dente (NOT soggy), the Boursin Potatoes were a tad over-salted, but perfectly complemented the very LARGE Prime Rib with both au jus and creamy horseradish sauce. The dessert was beautifully presented and, frankly, DECADENT. ​My only real critique is regarding a dish on the Specials menu--I can't recall the exact name, but it was a Shrimp Étouffée. It definitely wasn't a traditional New Orleans-style étouffée. It seemed to have a Florida/tropical twist to it, featuring a citrusy sauce with hints of pineapple and a green lime-like sauce, rather than the rich, spicy tomato roux you'd expect. The fish served over it was a generous size (about the size of a hand) and nicely blackened, though it was a bit over-salted for my taste. It was layered over spinach and came with a great portion of sizeable shrimp. If they switched to a traditional étouffée roux, that dish would be 300% better in my opinion! ​Everything else was fantastic. I highly recommend the calamari appetizer--they give you a genuinely generous portion, not the tiny serving most local restaurants give you that leaves you gasping, "Is that it for $16?!" ​The desserts were absolutely perfect and incredibly delicious. The lemon drink (although they ran out of their homemade lemon mix and was honest about it) was great. To top it off, our waiter was wonderful; he even bagged up our leftovers for us at the table like they used to do back in the day. The service here is truly top-notch. We wanted to try this place since long time. We arrived by the "main door" the one at Cape Coral Blvd. Inside someone from the bar told us to go to the back to be assisted. There the person in charged was walking a family to their table. We waited there for a few minutes and nothing. Another couple came and walked to the bar and sat there. We noticed that none help us so we decided to leave. At this point we walked out, the restaurant was practically empty, the waitress outside saw us leave and didn't say anything. I decided to retuned and at least made her aware of the bad service they have. Very disappointed, a gorgeous restaurant, pretty expensive and no attention to customer at all. I absolutely love stones throw, however I went there recently and ordered a beet salad. Disappointing. The salad was quite small and the beats were minimal. Plus, the few beets were cut into 1/2 in - 1 in squares. All the beets combined equaled probably 2 slices of beets. I expected more. read more

Based on the reviews, we decided to give Stones Throw a try for our team dinner. We visited on a mid-week night and the first thing we noted is that the location is a bit hard to find. The front windows are tinted and there's no signage other than the restaurant's logo. Once inside, we found ourselves in a spacious dining room and bar area that have a very upscale yet low key vibe. We were promptly seated and served drinks while selecting our dinner entrees. Looking through the menu, it focuses on steakhouse selections with some very nice alternatives to beef such as chicken, pork chops, and seafood. Our selections were all very good without any noticeable lapses in cooking or service. Everything came out hot and fresh. I think this is where Stones Throw stands out: each item, whether soup, salad, or steak, is artfully presented and carefully crafted. Everything on the plate belongs in each dish and nothing else. The sous-vide chicken and the seared scallops were the team favorites, and the Wagyu burger was perfectly cooked to highlight the rich fat flavors. Table service was competent. The food was over cooked on meat (chicken like rubber, steaks overcooked, fish dry). The sides were cold and terrible. The mashed potatoes came out looking like someone used an ice cream scoop to plop them on the plate and they were made way ahead of that night and not even warmed up. Everything had garlic... not every entree and side should be loaded with garlic... burned garlic too. They need a chef that can provide meals that are worthy of the price and make you want to return. This could be a great place. But you can't give mediocre food to people who are paying these prices. Stop with garlic in everything! Oh, and no one wants to look at that kitchen from the dining room. The night we were there , we saw the kitchen people standing in water in the floor of the kitchen while they cooked... WTH?! You may want to consider closing off the view to that kitchen. **update** Went back again to give this restaurant another chance. They really improved their cooking techniques. Made our favorites list in one visit and we've been there twice now in the last ten days. Our first visit was for a date night. Reservations are recommended and we arrived for ours at 6:30 on a Friday evening in May. The vibe is upscale contemporary and offers inside and outside seating. The interior has half booths, stand alone tables and a long bar. It's clearly become a place for celebrations and there were two different parties near our table. Even with some larger parties seated, the volume and atmosphere were inviting and comfortable. Noise volume wasn't an issue and I didn't even consider it at the time because we were able to converse easily without giving it a thought. Service was excellent. Brian explained the menus and made first-rate suggestions. He was there to offer more drinks and check in at the right times and was efficient and personable. We tried two different drinks: Endless Summer and This One's For Olive. I enjoyed both and would be happy drinking either. However, This One's For Olive, came out a bit as the top favorite. Maybe it's the handmade blueberry infused vodka they use? Not sure, but this drink is both pretty and delicious. They present it unmixed and it makes a striking photo. After a couple pictures and a twirl or two of the straw, it's simply Y-U-M! Bread is complimentary for the table and comes out with REAL butter. Both made a favorable impression. All the appetizers looked great. We finally settled on two and knew in advance we were over-ordering. The Goat Cheese Pillows were just as amazing as I imagined. Crispy crunchy outside and delicious warm goat cheese inside. A couple of these make a big impact, so this is definitely something I would want to share with others as an appetizer. The Pork Potstickers were one of best versions we've ever been served. Perfectly finished with the ultimate inside and outside texture and tasty pork filling. The accompanying dipping sauce also hit all the right notes. I ordered the House Salad. It was delicious but a bit overwhelming when it appeared. It could easily be a meal by itself. It comes with artisan greens, heirloom tomato, cucumber, red onion, hard-boiled egg, chickpea, avocado and is dressed with a shallot vinaigrette. I ate the portion I could but surrendered the rest, knowing I wanted to enjoy my entrée. Mr. T had the Soup Du Jour, which that day was Roasted Red Pepper & Crab. He really enjoyed it and let me try some. It was delicious and smooth. I could taste individual flavors and they were a terrific combination. I made a mental note to order this if I see it offered again. The daily specials provided Mr. T's entrée: a 12 oz. NY Strip he ordered medium. It came out perfect and was nicely seasoned. The Pan Seared Sea Scallops were my choice and I enjoyed every bite. Everything brought to us had us talking about coming back, so it wasn't a big surprise to find ourselves return the next weekend, this time on Saturday afternoon at 3:30. We'd been out running errands and decided to take a chance and walk in without a reservation. Happily, it worked out and we enjoyed their 3:00 to 6:00 PM Happy Hour. Initially, we intended to simply sample the handhelds. However, I couldn't resist another "This One's For Olive" and Mr. T convinced me to share some more Pork Potstickers. I thought we were over-ordering again, for sure. We were delighted to learn the Happy Hour Appetizers are slightly smaller portions. (They're also a really great price.) General Tso's Chicken Sandwich came with Crispy Fried Chicken Cutlets, Napa Slaw, General Tso's Sauce on a Brioche Bun with a side of Samurai Fries. Mr. T said it tasted really good but there was too much chicken, even for him. It has two cutlets but the two he got were really thick. He took an entire one off the sandwich. The only slight issue with this sandwich was the amount of sauce; it was a lot and made eating it messy and the bun got a bit soggy too. Great taste but he said he might ask for sauce on the side if he ordered it again. The Steak Sandwich had skirt steak, fontina cheese, and typically comes with green goddess dressing on the arugula on a toasted French roll and comes with a side of Steak Fries. I ordered it medium and asked them to skip the dressing and go light on the arugula. This sandwich was perfection. Flavorful steak and melty cheese on a lightly toasted roll with great chew. I shared a few bites with Mr. T and he wants this next time. The food and drinks were top tier amazing. I'm not a big drinker but I'd seriously go back for drinks. I'd also go back for appetizers, entrees and handhelds. We are looking forward to many more delicious meals. Go there. Don't be like me. They are celebrating their first-year anniversary on Friday, May 31st, and we didn't get there for the first time until about ten days ago. Highly Recommended read more
