My mom and grandmom both had a taste for steak, so they decided upon steak, mashed potatoes and salad. My grandmom is rather the critic and loves good food, so when she gave it all a two thumbs up, I knew we had made the right choice! My mom enjoyed her meal as well. My sister isn't a huge steak person, so she chose the Tuscan chicken. It looked very good and she said that it was! Now, I'm rather the meatloaf connoisseur & when I saw that Stoney River had it in the menu, I had to try it! It was delicious. Meaty with a flavorful mushroom gravy, delicious whipped potatoes & steamed broccoli. Very good. NOTHING and I mean NOTHING could beat the star of the show- the carrot cake! When our waiters asked us about dessert, everyone declined, but I wanted to try some something. I live carrot cake, so I decided to try it out. They soon bought out a tower sized slice of cake and, my goodness, I was taken aback! It came with a house made caramel sauce. Every bite was out of this cake was out of this world! Packed with flavor! There is coconut and walnuts in this cake, so be aware of allergies, if you have them. So decadent and moist- probably one of the best carrot cakes I've ever had. I was so sad when my friend told me that Stoney River would be closing in June2026. I had been wanting to try it so we made a reservation there this past Saturday night. We went here for a late lunch after a rather trying day of errands. The atmosphere was very relaxing and quiet. Someone else in a review mentioned the lack of crowded tables and I totally agree. It was nice to not feel claustrophobic. The food was good. She brought a basket of biscuits, sweet and tender, with butter; more like dessert than a pre appetizer. My husband had the French onion burger which he liked. I had the steak and biscuits. I wasn't sure what to expect but they were awesome, 5 little sliders on the sweet biscuits with sauted onion, a little salty but I love salty. SO DELICIOUS!! We both had the Parmesan fries and the only reason I didn't give the review 5 stars was because the fries weren't that great, not very crispy and very little Parmesan, they needed a little something extra. I made reservations online and it was quick and easy. We were immediately greeted at the front desk and was escorted to our table which was near the fireplace, which is my favorite spot to sit by for fine dining. Awesome experience! Every visit to Stoney River is always a good one. The food was excellent. I highly recommend their shrimp toast and steak rolls to start, and their house-made rolls with whipped honey butter are heavenly! Monday Happy Hour Bartender/server : Jalen Jalen was very attentive and had great food recommendations . Stoney River only has 3 apps available for happy hour. I chose the deviled eggs. They were good but the bacon was so hard ! Like , you almost can chip your tooth trying to chew it. Maybe it was fried another day and stored overnight? Idk. I think the kitchen should make bacon crumbles if they're not going to make fresh bacon. I chose a Malbec wine instead of a Meiomi because they only serve Meiomi by the bottle. Stoney River is such a hidden gem. From the hostess to the wait staff, it's always a welcoming environment. You have options to sit at a regular table for four, a booth or one of the two seaters near the fireplace. The food is flavorful, rich and abundantly portioned. For this visit I had the steak trio, cheesesteak egg rolls and the cheesecake. Stopped by for lunch after a tech visit at the Towson Town Center Apple Store. We were seated at a booth facing the gas fireplace- very nice! Our server was friendly and helpful. Loved the warm rolls and whipped butter to start. Good iced tea. Ordered the shrimp appetizer and wedge salad to start. Followed by chicken sandwich and meat loaf dinner. I found every part of this experience to be great. The interior was modern but quiet. The bathroom was also upscale. The service was really prompt, and my water glass was never empty. Starting with the bread, it was a unique and incredible cinnamon poppy bread with a soft and creamy butter. I had the prime rib which was thick and juicy and didn't need the au jus, but it still added amazing flavor. Each entree came with a potato, and the parmesan fries were just loaded with cheesy goodness. His steak was cooked perfectly and the baked potato was cooked perfectly with crunchy salty skin. From the warm welcome at the hostess stand to the attentive customer service (for the most part) and absolutely delicious food, everything exceeded our expectations. The portion sizes are generous and well worth the price. We were so full from just drinks and appetizers that we didn't even make it to the entrées! I honestly can't remember the last time I felt that satisfied without ordering a main course. If I had one small complaint, it would be that our server tended to breeze by so quickly, it felt like we had to plan all our requests in advance. Blink, and she was gone! Still, that didn't take away from the overall experience and ambiance. Everything came out in a timely manner and our waiter was friendly and maybe could've been slightly more attentive, but it was all fine. The food was a mixed bag. We started with the seasonal smoked salmon dip, which was delicious. It was served with crostinis and cucumber, and the only problem with this appetizer was the crostinis being way too hard. For entrees, my partner got the steak frites, and I got the coffee crusted filet with garlic whipped potatoes. My steak was perfect, and extremely tasty. The garlic whipped potatoes are good, but not extraordinary. Something I think Stoney River could benefit from is a little more diversity in the big steak dishes, like offering a smaller serving of potatoes and including a seasonal veggie. My partner's steak frites had a serious problem though - the fries sucked. We chalked it up to it being the end of the night, but they were pretty stale, flavorless, and rubbery. The steak was good and the sauce was yummy, but a crucial element of the dish was bad, making this entree lackluster given the price. All in all, we had good meal for the most part, but given the plenty of places in the DMV that offer good steak for sometimes even cheaper, with better side options, I don't know if we'll be back anytime soon. read more

On 11/4/25....my son and I had lunch at Stoney River Towson yesterday while waiting for our Apple Store appointment. Our server, Ashley, was pleasant at first. I ordered the Cedar Plank Salmon, which I'd enjoyed before, but this time it was extremely salty -- so much that I couldn't eat it. I let Ashley know, and she kindly offered to bring me something else. I ordered the burger instead, which was very good. What disappointed me was that no manager ever stopped by after I shared my concern. I'm sure it was the topping, but they could have informed me that they tested it and saw that it was too salty. Nothing. I even mentioned that the saltiness made me feel dizzy, and Ashley told me, "He's in orientation and sends his regards." That response felt dismissive and left a poor impression. What does that even mean? I was highly offended. It's unfortunate, because I've liked this restaurant in the past, but this experience really missed the mark. Food was beyond delicious! Started with the bread they offer the table and that honestly set the tone for the night. One of the best table bread I've ever had! It tasted like a donut holes (so delicious!!). Then I had the steak rolls which were also amazing. The pesto and the sauce that came with it really added flavor. I was able to try the pecan fish dish, the coffee-cured steak (coffee taste is not overwhelming and it was delicious), and the center cut filet. All were very delicious. The coffee cured meat was cooked medium rare which was perfect. The center cut was ordered medium and was tasty but could have tasted better if it were medium rare. We had the garlic mash, Mac and cheese, baked potato, rice, and mushrooms on the sides and they were delicious. Grant was our server and he did a great job. I want to start by saying I LOVE THIS PLACE. Unfortunately, this visit...not so much. I ordered the filet well done (don't judge me), and it came out medium. I didn't discover this until about 2 minutes in, because I had to flag the server/bartender down to give me a steak knife, which she did after going to the kitchen to first get ketchup for another guest I was dining with. I advised of the mistake, sent it back, but asked specifically that they not put the same steak back on the grill, but rather prepare a fresh one. The server came back, and offered the option of putting the same steak back on the grill which would take 5 minutes, or prepare a fresh steak which would take 30 minutes. Firstly, It does not take 30 minutes to prepare a well done 9 oz filet. It seems the exaggerated wait time was presented, to coerce me to take the first option, which I advised that I didn't want initially. I was a little irritated, and starving at his point, but ultimately declined both options especially considering my family ware more than halfway through their meals. The server/bartender did ask if I wanted to order something else, which I declined because I specifically chose Stoney River for the steak. She then told me she was going to take my initial order off the check, which makes sense, because I sent it back. While the server/bartender apologized for the mishap, no one from management came to check in, which is odd. I suspect the less than stellar customer service I typically receive from a restaurant of this caliber, was due to it being Christmas Eve at 8:30PM (kitchen stopped taking orders at 8:15PM) and the restaurant's closing time was 9PM. The steak dinner was supposed to be a part of my Christmas gift, but unfortunately I didn't have a chance to experience that due to slow service (our food took nearly an hour to be served), then exaggerated wait times to fix their error. I took everyone to Stony River on the first night and it took a while for us to get seated despite having a reservation and being there on time. We were then seated next to the fireplace. There were plenty of other seats and when I was just about to ask to be moved elsewhere, the hostess was gone. I didn't want to make a fuss in front of our guests so I just sat and suffered through the entire meal. I'm like a human chihuahua - I absolutely do not survive coldness well and even then, I was melting, just a few minutes into the meal. It was nothing short of pure torture. The food was fine. Crab cake had a bit too much filler. The spinach dip was way too salty. My salmon was on the dry side and the side of broccoli that it came with was doused in oil. The mashed potato was slightly dry. The wine was fine and our waiter was sweet (but could've come back more often - it wasn't a busy night, given it was a Monday). This review is long overdue. The food is pretty good and the customer service is always on point. Lobster bisque and whisky shrimp on toast are my faves. The only thing I would change is the temperature, I wish they were served hot. The fish tacos are delicious and when I ate pork I remember the ribs were tender. Of course I had to have some dessert. The crime brûlée is creamy and not too sweet. The chocolate cake is moist and I would purchase again. I also enjoyed the complimentary wine when we came for a birthday. Again customer service is top tier! I couldn't give 5 stars because, one temperature of the appetizer and soup were room temperature. For a Wednesday evening, the restaurant was very busy. We had dinner reservations for 6:30PM but didn't get seated until 7:15PM. The decor was nice with dim lighting. My daughter and I ordered the steak and fries. It was ok. The fries were luke warm and chewy. The steak was tender but lacked flavor. My daughter asked for medium well done but got a medium rare steak instead. My wife and son both got the plank salmon and loved it. Son says it one of the best salmon he's ever had.
