local poke contest - how fun!!
Lucy M.

Stopped by because locals recommended and got to try delicious poke!!! Managed to get a bite of ahi shouyu, crunchy garlic, and spicy masago. All three mixes were bomb with shouyu (soy sauce) having a bit softer texture (maybe cuz it just came out as I was ordering), spicy being my fav flavor (cuz masago), and churchy garlic is as good as it sounds. Price was by weight, about $19.99/lb* for all ahi poke flavor. It is *market price so cost could fluctuate. Each scoop of rice is $2. The fish was preciously frozen, which is standard. The poke feels a bit more chewy or lean, which I enjoy but just fyi. There's a cool selection of special stews on the menu! The shop also offers some groceries such as meat, fish, sauces, etc. ps. They are not on google maps (yet?) so just look up Big Daddy's Restaurant (next door) for navigation.

Seared Ahi Nachos

STR8CHEFIN in Kaunakakai is doing something special, and their Chef's Special Seared Ahi Nachos are a must-try. The ahi was incredibly fresh and perfectly seared, tender, clean, and clearly high quality. The sauce tied everything together beautifully, adding just the right balance without overpowering the fish. Every bite was packed with flavor, from the seasoned chips to the thoughtful toppings. You can taste the care and creativity in this dish, it's bold, satisfying, and uniquely Molokaʻi. Easily one of those plates you'll be thinking about long after the last bite.

Poke Bowl with 2 choices. I got the sweet kimchi poke and the garlic poke. Heavenly delish!

A definite must on Molokai. Open from 1030a until they are sold out (usually around 3p ish). Friendly service. Amazingly fresh food. Wish there were tables and chairs to sit and eat :)

The Pastelle was good. I am surprised that they was no fresh fish choices, such as mahi mahi or other local catch.

As a vegetarian, I asked the waiter what I could order and they said they could make pad Thai, Singapore noodles, garlic noodles, vegetarian. We ordered the green beans, appetizer and the Singapore noodles vegetarian both were excellent!! The Singapore noodles are a bean thread noodle with egg and tofu and bell peppers and tiny limes. I think were calamansi-- just delicious!! The green beans came with crispy, garlic, and spicy Fresno peppers on top and we're cooked to a chard perfection. Would definitely return. You can park in the Safeway/canner row parking lot and walk over.

It was clear that the menu had undergone changes from the original offerings, yet there was no indication or communication about these updates prior to reservation, which left us surprised and dissatisfied with the dish served. It would have been very helpful if there had been some notice or explanation about the menu alterations, as it affected our expectations and overall enjoyment. The menu options between lunch and dinner were unexpected and somewhat disappointing, as it limited our choices.

We came here in the middle of the Kona storm on March 14, 2026. After walking and hopping fences bc…read moreour road was closed for 45 minutes in the rain, we were so happy to have found this place was open. We ordered the garlic Ramen and the spicy beef Ramen and the chicken Katsu. We don't have any pictures because our phones were dead from no electricity from the storm, and the folks were so nice they let us charge phone at the counter. The portions are humongous. We were shocked, even though we were super hungry since we haven't had any real food for almost 24 hours, we could only eat half of the food. Granted we order three plates for two people, but still. And even at dinner, we couldn't finish the leftovers because it was just very filling. The flavors are really good. I didn't expect to have dined here, but I'm glad that we did. For how busy they were, they were very attentive and apologize for just slightly longer wait times. But honestly for such a crazy rain storm, it was so wonderful to have them be open! It's a simple restaurant in a plaza with a Safeway. Nothing fancy, but also not really a hole in the wall either. It's not a particularly trendy or a cute place, but it does the job. There's plenty of parking in the plaza that's free and then the restroom is also easily accessible and well kept.
