After a visit at Oak Hill Cemetery I stopped at Straw Hat Pizza located in the Plant shopping center across the street from the cemetery. I tried their $5.99 all you can eat salad and pizza lunch. Friendly employees, salad bar was good. In my opinion all you can eat pizza was tantamount to cardboard with toppings. If one desired quantity in lieu of quality this is your place. read more

My family and I love coming here. They are great at accomdating us for birthday parties and have good deals. Tuesdays they have 50% off Pizza so it's perfect to feed the troops. I came across Pizza Hut unexpectedly here at The Plant with my daughter and her friends. The day was a scorching 90s degrees out and we were starving. Having not visited a Straw hat Pizza in years it brought me back to my youth and the great things about a pizza parlor. There were toy machines an arcade and a mechanical horse! Fun times.. the girls are tweets and it was refreshing to see them be kids. We ordered the family style dinner large pizza , 4 drinks and pizza twists for $28 with enough leftovers for later. We were greeted the moment we arrived which is a plus and the overall environment makes you want to stay. I would definitely recommend this place . I don't normally write bad reviews but I couldn't wait to write one about this place, because people should know how this place is run and how the manager/owner discriminates against people. I was there yesterday with my girlfriend, and were at the register about to pay using ebt card. The person ringing us up, an EAST INDIAN MAN, I believe was the manager, asked us for how many drinks we wanted. I said one drink. He noticed the ebt card, and said "2 drinks." I said, "No, just one drink." He then gives us 2 cups and tries to ring us up for 2 drinks. I reiterated just one drink. Then he says, "You can not drink out of the cup then." I was taken back by the rudeness, shrugged my shoulders, and said OK. Then he says, "people who use ebt cards are cheaters and try to drink out of one cup." At this point, we told him to forget the order and walked out of there. We had no intention of getting 10 refills but just wanted a drink to wash the pizza down. 1 or 2 sips out of the cup would not have bankrupt the place. If he wasn't the manager, and the manger is reading this, you've now lost future business because of this person's insensitivity. For him to discriminate against people who use ebt card, this place should be boycotted by anybody who has ever experienced hard times, and I will DEFINITELY NEVER COME BACK HERE AGAIN and let all my family and friends know not to ever come here. Ordered for delivery and was one of the WORST pizza delivery experiences I've ever had. This was the first time I have tried Straw Hat Pizza. I live a few blocks away and they will never again have my business. Other than the pizza being mediocre at best, here's what went wrong from a service perspective: 1) I specifically asked twice if they had any deals on Medium or Large 2 toppings. The girl on the phone said no, they didn't have any specials "today". Ended up ordering 2 Large 2 toppings for like $43 (yikes)! 2) I asked if they take AmEx, and to my surprise, they charge a $6 (!!) fee just to use AmEx, I went with the Visa. 3) When the delivery got to the house, the driver insisted that any tip left on the credit card receipt would not go to the driver. So only cash goes to the driver, and of course the driver had no change. I felt bad (having delivered thousands of pizzas in my younger days) so because I had no small bills, I gave her all that I had which was $10. 4) Once I got the pizzas I noticed on the box there was a coupon for 2 Large 2 toppings for 25.99!! This did not make me happy after I had specifically asked twice for deals on 2 topping pizzas. 5) Called back to see why I wasn't told about any specials, why they insisted on a $6 fee for AmEx, why the tip on a credit card receipt doesn't go to the driver, and why their drivers don't carry any change. I am, of course put on hold for 5-10 minutes. 6) Once I finally get to talk to someone I ask for the manager and get the canned "Ohh, sorry there's no manager here tonight" response. Guy on the phone said I'd have to set up a time to come talk to the manager... No thanks, I'm not going to get into it with someone over $15 (what the coupon would have saved me). In summary. I have a feeling I was there on a bad day; just based on some of the good reviews I see for this place. I went in for a weekday lunch, so it was actually pretty empty. In fact when we got in we were the only ones there; while we waited several other patrons showed up. What got me first is that their kitchen is exposed to the customers, which is common in pizza places. But they're acting so unprofessionally, like they don't care that customers are watching them. They confused orders; the girl that was in charge of plating kept complaining about everything and everyone in the kitchen. It was so obvious they are a complete and total mess. I think we waited about 20 minutes for our order to come out. Mind that we ordered chicken wings and bread sticks; which basically need to go through the oven onto our tray, and we were the first ones in there. When the order started coming out they kept going back and forth cause they kept bringing out stuff that we didn't order and forgetting the stuff we did order. Finally, they have a salad bar, and you can get just that as a entree. Let me tell you; calling it a salad bar would be an insult to all salad bars out there. There was wilted lettuce (I mean brown around the edges); sliced olives, hard boiled egg, those miniature corns, and for the life of me I don't understand why, but jello and some kind of other sweet weirdness. This has to be one of the best pizza joints in San Jose, I ordered a pepperoni pizza with black olives and jalapeños. I love the thin crust and when it's nice and crunchy at the edges, they do it just right every single time. Don't even get me started on the sauce they use as a base for the pizza, unforgettable. Service is casual, exactly what you would expect from a pizza joint. They also have good sandwiches, smoked ham and three cheeses is the way to go and you can't say anything negative about the salad bar. This has always been my go pizza spot so I was incredibly disappointed when I went in today and had this experience. Let me first say that I know child care expensive, however if you're going to bring your kid to work they need to be out of the way. This worker had her two daughters (or maybe her daughter and daughters friend) at her place of work. Upon arriving we had to wait 5 minutes for her to come to the register because she was in the back with the girls. We order, get our salad and start waiting for our pizza to be done. While eating our salad the two girls start filling up water balloons and water guns at the drinking station... unsanitary. Then our pizza is just out sitting there while the worker is with her kids. It's sitting there for you guessed a little over 5 minutes until we had to go up to her to have her bring it to us. While eating the girls are running around not only the dining area but inside the kitchen as well. Children are not supposed to be near the food being prepared let alone the potential injuries that could occur. Since this is my first negative experience here I will go back, however if this is a new way they are going to conduct business they will be losing mine and potentially a lot of others. read more

A great place if you are in the mood for some pizza, especially on a Tuesday. I came here last night to grab a bite to eat with my family and we really enjoyed it. For $24, we got two large "master" pizzas (Specialty pizzas) for a family of 4 and had enough leftovers for lunch the next day. They told us it would take 20 minutes to make the pizzas (so call in your order ahead of time if you need to), but it only took about 15 minutes. The ingredients were super fresh and we enjoyed both varieties (Chicken Tikka and California veggie). Straw Hat definitely gives the traditional pizza places like Pizza Hut and Dominoes a run for their money. They have a different special every night of the week and I appreciate that their pizzas are not weighed down in grease. I'm not a vegetarian but my parents are, so it was nice to know that they have a different side of the kitchen dedicated for the vegetarian pizzas and use a completely different set of utensils and cookware for the veg pizzas. It's not super gourmet, so if you are looking for gourmet, look elsewhere. But if you want quick take-out style pizza, with fresh ingredients and low prices, check them out. After being rained out of our 8 year old twins backyard birthday plans, we scrambled to set something up last minute. We settled on Rockin Jump knowing it was too late to book a party. We had 20 kids meet us there and we jumped then moved everyone over to Straw Hat for pizza and cake. Straw Hat was awesome to us. We reserved space for 40 people and had the pizza preordered and ready for us when we got there. It was just what we were looking for. I ordered 3 pizzas and the order was taken by Door Dash as they do their telephone orders, which is strange. Anyhow I was given an estimate delivery time of 12:49pm and the pizza never arrived. I called Door Dash to find out what happened and they advised that they could not find a driver for the area. They called back and advised that the driver is 5 mins await from the restaurant and I should have the Pizzas in 10-15 mins. I checked the tracking and my order went from being picked up to Order being canceled. I called again to check what happened and they order was cancelled as they could not get a driver. How ridiculous!!! They are a deliver service and they were unable to deliver the food. I will never order a Pizza from this chain and never use Door Dash ever again. read more

My husband brought me here after telling me he hasn't had it since he was a kid but remembers it being very tasty. We ordered a large pizza for 20 bucks and did half and half of the California veggie and Classic veggie...both yummy. One has red sauce and one has white sauce. They have other good veggie options like Greek pizza and some indian, paneer flavored options as well. Oh and the jalapeño cheese twists were awesome. This location in particular was not very put together. I'm talking ripped benches, random Christmas light decorations...some new stuff mixed in with some old dingy looking stuff. Not very well kept. I have known of this chain for years and this past Monday night we decided to give it a try. We ordered The Works, an Aloha Chicken pizza, and the twists with bacon. The twists were incredible, a meal in itself, great flavor and texture and never been to a pizza place that has twists/breadsticks that compare. The Aloha Chicken pizza was great, perfect amount of everything, but it lacked flavor. Wife said that a little sweet bbq sauce would have made it absolutely perfect. Now, as for The Works, we loved it, generous amount of toppings, great flavor, and we loved the California crust. (And no grease at all!) Manager/owner was very pleasant and seemed to enjoy talking to the customers and even talked history of the chain with me. As for prices, they are spot on, and we noticed that they have deals during the week that we will try and remember. We will be loyal customers. read more

We used this place to celebrate a kid's birthday. They were quite accommodating, even offered to store the cake for a few hours and brought it out when I asked them. We were able to easily decorate the corner of the restaurant where we had the celebration. The pizza was quite good as well. The sizes seem to be larger than typical pizza in other places. I normally get the largest and it is good for 4 people, so I got 3 largest pizzas for 14 people. We had plenty of pizza left. read more

Came here for my sister's bday celebration with the fam bam and they were able to accommodate all of us. Pizza was good, great that they had several screens to watch football and baseball, plus I think they had a soccer game on too. Been here twice now and tried an Indian style pizza both times (and that's no because I'm Indian myself!). The first time we had a paneer pizza which was spicy and yummy! And the second time around, we ordered a chicken tikka pizza. That was yummy too. I definitely plan on coming by on a Tuesday where there pizzas are half off. I really want to try their veggie, but that's only because I'm loving me some artichokes right now! Great location! Good beer the buffet is legit! They have flat screens, but wish they had more beer tap. Customer service is good and the location is always clean. The bathroom light only is program for a short time and turns off. The hispanic man in the front/back has great customer service and greets you. read more
