I had my hair washed, cut & styled there last week with Subrina. She was great and made me feel beautiful. My hair was shiny and amazing AND when I went to the bank immediately afterwards the teller had to do a double take. She saw my birthdate on the screen, but thought, 'she can't be that old!' I moved to Nevada City in the spring and was eager to establish a relationship with a local stylist. I picked Stray Cuts because their building and location are so cool and historic. My hair is very difficult to cut because it is both straight and curly. Autumn took on the task and nailed it on the first try. I was excited to have found someone I felt I could trust. She has cut my hair twice since then and I have been progressively less satisfied each time. I chalk up the first time to beginner's luck. Her approach has not been very thoughtful and I don't like my current haircut at all. I will be switching stylists now and it will be nice to go somewhere else with a better parking situation. Stray Cuts is more geared to women anyways. read more

I have had Tami as my hair stylist and colorist for the past 5-6 years. I would never consider going to anyone else. She knows her products and how how my hair reacts to them and what is needed to stop breakage or what looks great in coloring hair. I personally want my hair to look natural, shiny and smooth... she is able to accomplish this... she does it by "naturally" highlighting my hair with many different colors and by coloring very few strands at a time so they blend in and provide a very natural effect. My husband and I were in town (from Rocklin) for our anniversary celebration and I just took a chance and went into Stray Cuts to see if anyone could cut my hair. Aubrey was free and did I ever luck out! She is as darling as she can be and really took time to listen to me and make suggestions for my hair type (thick and straight). She gave me a great cut, (it is so easy for me to style) and thinned out the spots where I get the most bulk when it's growing out. Called to schedule a same day appointment and they had a gentleman by the name of Daryal bowling who was working that took walk in and same day scheduling. I came in on my lunch and got my haircut by him after clearly stating on the phone that I wanted someone who specialized in A line cuts the guy was nice he shampooed my hair lightly for like five minutes conditioned rinsed and towel dried it cut my hair in like 15 minutes I walked out of there with this Bob after he got done explaining to me during the 1970's that he had been in the UK cutting about 9 to 10 A-lines a day -you think he would know how to do an A-line? My hair is totally hacked up some pieces longer than others a rip off for $45. I would recommend scheduling with a different place obviously they don't have knowledgeable staff at the front desk and this employee! I could of paid $15 for the same hack job and shampoo at Trend cuts! read more

She has worked with me through the years, helping me change my color and styles to fit the changes of my life and how I live (once high maintenance, not so much now) and want to be perceived (professional vs. fun) - she can accommodate it all. Further, she teaches me how to get the looks I want at home with different styling techniques and explains what I need to make it happen (brushes, product, tools) in ways that she knows will fit my hurried lifestyle. I absolutely love Rachel, I saw her on Saturday June 28, 2019, she did a cut and highlights that are so wonderfully perfect! Rachel was reasonably fast though she didn't rush, and reasonably priced. What I loved most is that she listened to what I wanted, we discussed this at length and I knew we had a meeting of minds... I knew I was completely understood. I had previous experience with another very well known hair salon in GV, and my stylist I guess wanted me to have shoulder length hair, cause every single time, she cut between 2-4" more than I asked for (or wanted)... and that went on for years... Now, I have healthy long-ish really pretty hair, and get tons of complements. See Rachel, you won't be disappointed... Also she gave me a much needed Saturday appointment, be sure to book ahead as she is typically about 2-weeks out. I had a mixed experience at Stray Cuts with Paula. I originally booked Paula to do my hair for my wedding in late September. We did a hair trial in August and she did a great job with my hair and said she was available for my wedding. I also had a makeup trial with her but ultimately decided to do my own makeup on my big day. After my hair and makeup trial with Paula, I texted her to let her know I'd decided to do makeup but I would still love to have her do my hair on my wedding. Was she still available? She didn't respond for DAYS. (My wedding was only a few weeks away at this point.) After about five days or a week with no contact from Paula, I called her; she said she'd call me right back - which she never did. Eventually she did shoot me a text saying yes, she'd do my hair, and she would "try" to call me that weekend. Well, she never called me that weekend. At this point my wedding was about two and a half weeks away and I was starting to feel really anxious and stressed. I then left Paula a couple voicemails during the next week or two, politely asking her to please call me so we could confirm hair details and wedding details. (I had no idea if she knew when and where to arrive at my wedding venue and there were details about the hairstyle I wanted to talk about with her.) But she was impossible to reach. Every time. I started sensing some real reluctance to work with me, and maybe it was because she wasn't going to do my makeup too, probably. To most women getting married, hair is a pretty big deal, and we want the person we choose to help us look beautiful on that special day to be positive, happy for us, not reluctant or unresponsive to calls or texts. On my final voicemail to Paula (she never seemed to be available), I asked her to please contact me soon as I really needed to discuss details with her and confirm everything. (My wedding was TWO WEEKS AWAY at this point.) I kind of wished I had signed a contract with her because I learned that if you don't sign a contract with your wedding vendors, they might leave you hanging. For weeks. But then I decided it was just as well because I didn't want someone that reluctant to do my hair. By that evening she still hadn't responded and I was feeling so angry. The last thing a bride needs is to stress about wedding vendors' availability and follow-through. So I decided to find someone else to do my hair. The next morning, Paula finally called me. On her voicemail she said, "I don't know what we need to talk about..." Are you kidding me?! My wedding was days away and we hadn't discussed hair style, where to meet, when, how long it would take, and just basically communicate! She also mentioned that if I "had a problem with the cost" I should "probably find someone else." (Her costs were reasonable and I had no problem with them ... I have no idea why she inferred that I did.) Her attitude about working with me on my wedding day just didn't seem right (reluctant? dragging her feet? pissed off maybe?) and I decided there's no way I want someone like that working on my hair on one of the most important days of my life. It would have been extremely awkward. I want wedding vendors who are excited and happy for me, who are easy to reach, and communicate promptly. Otherwise, move on. I let Paula know that I'd found someone else and that it frustrated me that she was not easy to reach when my wedding was two weeks away ... She did wish me well in a text but said that it "wasn't her fault." With that kind of attitude, I was glad to move on and book someone else. read more

I was extremely unhappy with the hair cut I received. And it was a very uncomfortable salon experience. The owner was in the front of the salon throwing a tantrum about parking for the entire hour and all of the stylists and customers were really stressed out. So many salons in town. Not going back to this one. read more

I'm writing to comment on the front desk services. I left two messages to make an appointment with Whitney, waited about three weeks and didn't hear back. I called again recently and finally got someone on the phone. The receptionist was rude and made no apologies for not returning phone calls. I don't usually make comments on Yelp but after hearing similar gripes about Stray Cuts over the last few years, I thought it would be helpful to mention this. read more

My mom sees Stacey who does her nails every other week or so. She is doing very beautiful work on my mom's french style nails & manicure . My mom is a senior and I want to say that she is treated with respect and dignity at this salon , especially by Stacey who goes above and beyond the call of duty . My mom began chemo a few weeks ago and wasn't feeling well . Stacey went to the pharmacy to pick up my moms medication and bring it to her at home so my mom didn't have to drive one day when the weather was stormy and preparing to snow . It's nice to live in a community where people really care for one another in an authentic way , and it really is about making your customer happy ! I am happy to support businesses such as this one ! I highly recommend Stacey as a five star nail technician . She really does her homework when it comes to the safety & health of her clients by staying informed about products & services she uses as well . Kudos ! read more
