My friend and I met up for dinner on a weekday and Street to Kitchen was vibing! It was the end of January just after the snowstorm of 2024, and the Christmas decoration was still up, which I adored. We ordered the red curry and the pad see ew, with green beans on the side. We were eating completely vegetarian, and everything was absolutely fabulous. The server courteously let us know that spice here means *spice* and he was right. The red curry spice was not here to play games. My friend and I both felt the heat in all the good ways, and the pumpkin was texturally perfect. I must admit that living in the Netherlands has made me soft on being able to handle heat, but it was absolutely divine. The Pad See Ew was a great balance and foil to the spice- perfectly savory and not spicy at all, just that salty and sweet that we all love. Green beans were lime-y and spiced up with the crunchy shallots. Overall I loved the experience. I would love to come back and experience the khao soi but the price tag is hefty on the specials. read more

We had a 6:45 reservation, came in at that time, and were seated promptly. Our servers were very attentive and the sommelier clearly passionate about helping customers get the best experience possible. It is a place on the smaller side in terms of space - it got even busier pretty fast (which is to be expected, especially on a Friday night!) and so was fairly loud with the music playing also. Because you are expected to order everything at once (I knew this before coming, and had informed the people I was dining with also), it got a little overwhelming trying to decide what to get when there is so much background noise. To try to avoid this, I would suggest viewing recent photos of the menu online before coming! Don't be surprised if something is changed or runs out due to demand. I was pretty disappointed tonight when they had run out of the Yen Ta Fo special & replaced it with the Crispy Prawns, but especially disappointed to hear that they had run out of Mango Sticky Rice. Another thing I would also like to note is that table space fills up very fast if you are ordering a lot to share and it can get tough to pass things around. We got Grandma Pluentha's Corn Fritters, Yum Kai Dao, Shrimp Tom Yum, Green Curry with Fish Balls and the Pad See Ew with Tofu. For dessert we got the Pandan Cake and the Coconut Caviar ice cream. The fritters were flavorful and soaked up the sauce well. The Yum Kai Dao was delicious - the egg mixed together so well as the runny yolk blended to form a rich, pungent sauce over the greens and vegetables. The Tom Yum was great - even at a mild it has a definite kick to it. The green curry special was probably my favorite dish of the night. The creamy curry and the tender fish! So good. Both of the desserts were delicious. Give the ice cream a try! I do wish that the portions were a bit bigger given the price, but everything was very tasty and the service was nice. There is something about an unapologetic menu that I am OBSESSED with. Street to Kitchen brings the heat, Thai Style and they warn you in advance. No substitutions, which maintains the integrity of the food and the overall balance of flavors. Located inside the Plant, you'll find parking sparse due to the building hosting more than just one business. So, plan accordingly. Reservations are available on Open Table- something I also highly recommend especially for a Friday or Saturday evening visit. They have a fantastic collection of house-made non-alcoholic drinks which I valued. I was able to try Thai Tea and their homemade limeade. Both were great, if not slightly sweet. The recommendation is to order all food at once. Food comes out as it's ready, which is a different experience, but one I did not mind. My table ordered both the corn fritters and the garlic chive pancake as an appetizer. They were both served with flavorful sauces-which turned out to be my favorite thing about both dishes. My entree was the Krapow Beef with rice. I ordered the spice level at a mild (and this seemed to be enough for me) It's presented beautifully, with tons of colors. Portion is a bit on the smaller side, but the flavor is 100% there. Unfortunately, I did have to send my plate back due to finding a hair in my food, but they immediately dealt with it and fired a new dish for me which I appreciated. Finally, for dessert, I ordered the mango sticky rice and this may be my go-to spot for this dish moving forward. I loved the atmosphere. So busy. Wait is a must. So if you don't want to wait, reserve ahead. Service was very good. Waiters are knowledgeable and attentive. Food was very good with top quality ingredients. Portion size too small for the price. They don't joke around with spicy level. Ask to level down if you are not used to spicy. They didn't even ask me the level- bring it up. Overall, great experience. On another hand, houston has so many great Thai places with cheaper prices, better Portion size, less wait, great dishes. Highly recommend this place! We went to celebrate a friend's birthday. The restaurant is family-style which makes it fun to get a bunch of dishes to split. The restaurant is authentic Thai food, so the minimum spice level is still spicy. I am good with spicy food so for most things I could have had it spicier, but my friends would not agree! the fried rice, stir fried Thai basil, and drunken noodles were all top knotch. The desserts were unique but still delicious. The service staff were helpful and efficient. The cashew chicken was dynamite, with perfect texture and bold flavors, and the pad Thai? Easily one of the best I've ever had. Balanced, flavorful, and just the right amount of indulgent. Incredible, authentic Thai food. This is a small restaurant, so I recommend reservations. It's bustling and loud, but that didn't detract from the experience for me. When I found out the drunken noodles could be made gluten free, I nearly cried - it's one of my all-time favorite dishes. And they lived up to expectations. The green curry was also really good. Food was delicious, Drinks were creative and the best I've ever seen at a thai restaurant. That's why I give it 4 stars. However, honestly the experience itself was 2 star. After we were sat at our table, it was 45 minutes (maybe more, I stopped checking the time) before we even got a drink order in. Then whoever placed that order must have forgot, because they didn't come and we had to place the order again. We then made our food order at the same time which came right around closing time after we had been sat for over 2 hours. I asked for hot sauce or chili oil and our server gave me a snobby "You'll be fine without it" and told me that the dishes are made in the chef's vision and are meant to be eaten that way. No extra spice available at a Thai restaurant is weird but this behavior from the waiter made me feel crazy lol and I was a waitress at a thai restaurant for years. TLDR: Best Thai in Houston Dish ordered: Khao Soi with beef cheek (first two pictures) Also tried: Drunken noodles (sharing with the table, third picture) For context, I attended dinner on a Monday night at 8:30 pm, an hour before they close. They also have a cancellation policy, where the party is charged $30 for every member of the party that does not show up if a reservation was made, which we opted not to do for our party of 6. We had no problem getting seated and we received amazing service throughout the night, everything from our drinks constantly being filled to great suggestions and advice from the waiters, without feeling like we were constantly being hovered. We were walked through the menu from top to bottom, with popular options, personal favorites, and options for customization with our restrictions. Overall, thoroughly impressed from a service standpoint. The Khao Soi was the star of the night. It comes with 48 hour braised beef cheek in a fragrant coconut curry over hand pulled egg noodles, topped with crispy noodles and house pickled mustard greens, and it tastes as wild as that sounds in the best way possible. The broth was rich and layered, the noodles have that perfect chew, and the beef cheek is fall apart tender. Our server recommended it as a dish big enough to share and they were right. One bowl was easily enough for two people, especially if you are ordering family style. Also pictured were the drunken noodles. This portion is definitely only enough for one person, but nonetheless the flavors were outstanding. The noodles were wide, great flavor with an above average level of spice for the mild, the right amount of char from the wok, and not too oily or heavy. I would order this again, but keep in mind that this is not enough for multiple people to get full like the Khao Soi was for two people. Overall, I will definitely be frequenting this establishment and will be recommending it to locals and those coming in from out of town alike. This spot is unapologetic, and keeps it 100! I love it. Spot is hip and feels hidden in this interesting building with a bunch of tenants. The waiter was personable and gave great recommendations. The dishes we had were not playing around with the spice level, especially the green papaya salad. My friend tapped out and I got to finish it. So so good. We had the rice cake appetizer that was pretty good - savory and a fun texture. The pad Thai we had was the most complex I'd ever experienced and I really enjoyed it. I felt like I was having what the dish truly is meant to be, versus Americanized versions that are too sweet. We splurged on a fish curry that didn't hit the mark, and I knocked off a star. There was so little curry in the bowl and no veg what so ever. While the fish was cooked really well the dish was lacking for us (not pictured). Mango sticky rice was the BEST. The ambiance of this place is so cool and unique. I love the color pallette, the light and the modern feel and attention to detail creating a very fun atmosphere. Our server was super friendly and attentive as well, giving us recs for dinner based on our dietary preferences. We got the garlic chive pancakes, gai yang and pad see ew with tofu. The pancakes were such a unique dish and I've never had anything like it. The outside was crispy and inside chewy paired with a sweet sauce. The chicken of the gai yang was charred to perfection and the sauce cut through meat well. Finally the pad see ew was like no version of the dish I've had before. The tofu had a flavor of its own which I've never seen before and I enjoyed it a lot. On top of that they give you a side of Serrano pickle juice that was a perfect acidic side to the noodles. I had been long awaiting trying this place out among all the hype and the James Beard award. I had tried coming once on a Friday night with a party of 4 and no reservation, but they were full (rightfully). This time around, nearly a year later, we made a reservation well in advance for our group of 6 on a Thursday night. Co-owner Graham (chef's wife) immediately greeted us and brought us waters. He was delightful and helpful throughout the night, and when we were noticeably sweating from the spice in the food, he offered to bring us some Rieslings to neutralize the spice. At the end of the meal, he came to chat with us for a little while and told us a lot about his wife's journey in opening this restaurant. Shoutout to you, Graham! Our waiter (couldn't remember his name) was super helpful as well. He gave us many great recommendations and when we only had 5 dishes for 6 of us, he strongly advised that we order a couple more to make sure we are full. Black Truffle Durian Crab Curry. This one was very unique. While a small dish, each bite was packed full of flavor. Despite the name, I did not taste the (normally strong) durian flavor - it must have been mixed in well with the coconut sauce. Red Curry Mac & Cheese. Until now, I thought my homemade mac & cheese was the best. I am now inspired to up the ante by adding in some red curry, because this one was the bomb! Fried Branzino. This fish was fried perfectly and was easy to separate using just a spoon, no fork & knife required. The fish skin was very crispy and the veggies that were served with it added a nice balance. Pad Thai with shrimp. This was good, similar to your standard pad thai. Note that they only make this with shrimp, veggie, or vegan (no beef, chicken, or pork option). Crispy Pork Belly with Sticky Rice. This one was unique. The pork belly itself was super crispy and reminded me why I love pork belly so much. They must have added a breading on top of the skin because this much crunch usually doesn't come from skin alone. The sticky rice was served in a plastic pouch, which you have to finger out onto your plate. Red Curry with pork. This one was SPICY. Our waiter strongly warned us that this one packs lots of spice, and we accepted the challenge. He wasn't kidding - at first bite I thought it was no biggie, but the spice creeps up on you, and hard. Not for the faint of heart. Fried Rice with pork. This fried rice was a little unique - while most fried rice are dry, this one was somewhat moist and rice was sticky (by design), packed with lots of flavor. This one also had a kick to it, so be warned if you can't handle spice. For my drink, I got the Embassy Margarita. This one was a good standard margarita. I also got to try the STK Old Fashioned and Frozen Thai Tea - both were so unique and bold in flavors! I wished I had gotten either of these. I don't recommend Street to Kitchen for picky eaters because they do not take customization lightly. The proteins listed on the menu are the only ones you can choose from, and spice level can't be modified. On the other hand, they won't provide sriracha if you are wanting more spice, because that's considered an insult to the chef. I get that the chef wants you to taste her dishes for what they are, but I do wish there was a bit of flexibility in spice level for the more basic dishes (e.g. fried rice). While this is not your everyday Thai food (Houston has plenty of options for that), given the high price point, this makes for a great date night or special occasion celebration. I'm glad to have found an upscale Thai dining experience that doesn't stray too far into fusionland and stays true to its Thai roots. read more

Fantastic! Street to Kitchen absolutely blew it out of the water in curating a culinary journey of authentic Thai dishes with complex flavor. Our party of seven, celebrating a birthday, visited on a Friday night for their tasting menu and it was the perfect choice for a larger group. The tasting menu is entirely menu-less, curated by the chef based on restaurant favorites, seasonal ingredients, and a few new dishes under trial for the permanent menu. The waitstaff take the party on an expedition through multiple courses and flavors, explaining each dish as it arrives but not providing too many hints on what is still yet to come. We started with two appetizers, a chive cake and corn fritter, both served with tasty dipping sauces. Next we had a crunchy catfish dish, Plah Duck Foo, that guests are instructed to drizzle with the accompanying sauce and mash into smaller pieces. This dish had a nice fish sauce taste from the sauce and interesting texture. We also had a shrimp and watermelon dish, Yum Watermelon, served cold in a watermelon juice broth spiced with some Thai flavor influence that was one of our favorite dishes. This dish was almost like a Thai shrimp ceviche that was refreshing and intriguing at the same time. For some of the main courses, there was a meat platter with four different types of meat - chicken, steak, lamb and pork, there was a whole crispy Tiger Prawns with spicy Saeng Wa prawn fat sauce, and many accompanying side dishes. There were green beans, okra, noodles, potatoes, papaya salad, snap peas, and jasmine and sticky rice. All of the dishes came with a wonderful trio of handmade sauces. Every dish was really fantastic. Excellent flavor, fresh ingredients, and a variety of textures. To end, we sampled their famous mango with sticky rice with coconut cream, a coconut ice cream with caviar, and the pandan cake. The dinner service was perfect for the group and the staff did a great job creating a unique culinary experience. At the end of our meal, chef Benchawan Jabthong Paint (chef G) came out to our table to say hello which felt really special and was a nice end to the evening. A couple of practical notes include dietary restrictions are easily accommodated. While they didn't change any of the ingredients of the dishes for our group which included someone pork-free, and myself who is a dairy-free pescatarian, they do a great job of pointing out dishes that contain these ingredients and with the number of dishes we were served, there was more than enough to eat. The tasting menu was absolutely fantastic but take note that the minimum party size is six and it does require a reservation and a deposit to source the ingredients. The tasting menu does include a few dishes that are not available on their regular menu. Overall, I'm so impressed with Street to Kitchen! This spot is now definitely on my list of top restaurants in Houston! Five stars for sure! read more

Street to Kitchen is a Chef driven Thai restaurant with a punk rock attitude. We made the journey to East Houston and finally got a chance to check out what everyone has been raving about, and we were not disappointed! Their newest location (moved a few times over the years) is a blink and you'll miss it door on the side of a building in EaDo. There's street parking out front, but your best bet is to uber if possible. They have a small bar, and maybe a dozen or so tables inside, so reservations are strongly suggested. Our visit coincided with the holidays, so there was a huge Christmas tree in the center of the dining area, which was fun. If you're looking for a silent romantic intimate meal, this may not be the destination, because they were rocking a wide range of records and the dining room echoed with music and chatter. (fine by us, but an FYI) Service was personable and friendly. Our waiter did a fantastic job walking us through the menu, suggesting certain plates based off of what we said we liked, and was really on top of our table throughout the meal. The food is mostly family style, and the four of us at our table tried to order a healthy range of options to get a good idea of what's what. We picked: -Yum Kai Dao. Crispy, runny fried eggs with lime juice with a splash of fish sauce and served over salad greens, topped with shallots. Delicious mix of flavors and textures. -Pad Thai, every white guy's go to order at a Thai restaurant. Guilty but very happy with their version of the dish. -Red Curry Pork/Veggies. Red curry with pumpkin, chiles, and sweet thai basil. So HOT but so good. -Black Truffle Durian Crab Curry. Jumbo lump blue crab meat in a subtle (very subtle) coconut durian curry over a bed of forbidden rice, finished with perigord truffles. Prettiest dish on our table, and predominantly truffle and crab flavors. Tasty, but didn't really pick up the durian curry enough. -Khao Soi, 48 hour braised beef cheek in fragrant coconut curry over hand pulled egg noodles, topped with crispy noodles and house pickled mustard greens. This was on the North Central Thai Specialties menu, and reminded me of a hearty winter stew with Thai spices, textures, and flavors. The food, the service, the whole dang evening met all the hype we walked in skeptical about. The meal will cost slightly more than your neighborhood Thai spot, (I think with alcohol, we were around $75-$80 per person) but it was also far better than that neighborhood Thai spot. This place has been on my list forever. I previously had visited the old "gas station" location but due to long wait times didn't get a chance to try the food out. The new location is nice! It is a bit hard to find. Driving in the area itself is confusing (EaDo) with one way streets and the metro rail. I had to find street parking and ended up making a wrong turn. I came for a weekday dinner and despite it being a weekday the tables around us quickly filed up. Service was excellent. Our waiter spent time going over dietary restrictions, asking if oyster sauce and egg were when I told him I was vegetarian. I told him I preferred my meal vegan and he pointed out all dishes labeled (v) on the menu were vegan. Vegetarians always worry about hidden fish sauce when visiting any Thai restaurant and this was an added plus. The food itself was average and overpriced. I got the pad thai. I thought the portion size was small for the hefty price of $24. There were only three pieces of tofu. Their pad thai is "make your own spice level" by adding chili flakes that are provide as a side onto your dish. Without the flakes the dish itself is completely mild. There are two other curry entrees that are vegan on the menu, but I'm not sure I would return to try them. read more

This is an intimate, lively restaurant so you can just feel the good energy when you enter of all the people experiencing such a good dining experience. Service was amazingly efficient and friendly given how popular and crowded the place was. Our waiter did a great job giving an overview of the restaurant as well as some culinary highlights to get us thinking about what to order. I was a passenger princess during this group meal so I didn't choose what to order, but everything we had was stellar. Yes - there is heat here, real heat. But it is heat for the sake of flavor, not for the sake of just trying to be hot. (I guess the hype has died down a bit, but I'm sure there will be a surge in guests with the new Bib Gourmand!) Our server was friendly and quickly warned us about the spice level on their menu. He explained the Specialty Entrees as well as the addition of a few new items on their Small Plates. We opted for the garlic chive pancakes and pork skewers which were easily the highlight of our meal. The pork was so tender, juicy, and flavorful. The sauce was irresistibly tangy. The mashed potatoes were made with coconut milk and were delectably creamy with a slight coconutty taste. To die for!! I wish we had ordered two of these. The massaman curry with lamb shank was also flavorful, but not worth the $55. Everything was great! First time at the new location - this space is muuuccchhh nicer than the one adjacent to gas station few years ago. Great music. Owner stopped by our table, great server (maybe Aaron) and the food was as excellent as I'd remembered. The lump crab and coconut sauce, drunken noodles, and mango sticky rice - I can eat that twice a week! Thai mild is all you need. Oh and the mandatory service fee/gratuity that I know many used to complain is no longer...at least I don't recall seeing it. This was a different kind of Thai food place. The first thing I noticed was how much the decor was at odds with the music. We sat in the back room, right next to the music box where uncensored rap/trap music was blaring next to us (e.g. 'KCC - feat. FIIXD') with a candle lit at our table. The ambiance was a weird juxtaposition between f-bombs combined with traditional Thai decorations in a low light dinner. Our server was nice, and he patiently explained everything beforehand. But I don't really need to be told how to take a bite of food. And the food itself was odd. It was my first time trying the Garlic Chive Pancakes ($12). I was expecting them to be akin to onion paratha or Chinese 'cong you bing.' Instead they resembled a stack of cinnamon toast sticks and were completely filled with chives and nothing else. And even with the dipping sauce it wasn't that good. The Fried Fish Cakes ($16) somehow also managed to taste bad. They were chewy and rubbery. Our server told us ahead of time the Crispy Catfish Salad ($32) was unconventional and pancake-like, but it still tasted absolutely nothing like catfish. It was a crispy cloud of filaments with a hint of fish mixed with a salad. It wasn't bad, but I think I'd prefer actual crispy, fried fish - like what you would expect in a plate of Tilapia Pad Krik (which typically costs less than $32). The Garlic Green Beans ($12) were not as good as the kind you get at a Chinese restaurant, and a little weird with excess fish sauce. The Shrimp Pad Thai ($24) wasn't bad. The noodles were translucent and thin, which I liked. The grilled shrimp on the side was tasty, but the flavor wasn't mind-blowing, nor the best out there. The only thing that tasted pretty good was the Mango Sticky Rice ($14). We were just passing through town in Houston and decided to try this place out. My mom is Filipino and she thought everything was too salty (tbf, she doesn't like salty Filipino food either). The spice level was fine. We didn't try any of the fancier dishes on the dinner menu ($40+) or the cocktails, which might be where this place shines. Imo, everything was kind of frou-frou and catered to a young, hipster crowd. I didn't see any older people here besides my parents. This place is a cool passion project, but if this is traditional Thai food, I think that I might prefer the other kind. read more

I know everyone has been raving about this place, but unfortunately it really missed the mark for me... Parking: There's a small lot and some street parking Space: The space is an awesome design and it looks like they kept most of it the same from previous concepts here. I love that they did that because it's nice and cozy but stylish Service: The staff/servers are really nice but the tempo they were checking on us/serving was paced very strangely. It took a long time for our server to come to us though there were only 3 other tables there. He kept indicating he would come in a minute but would go to other tables instead. That being said, once he finally came over, he was very knowledgeable about the menu and had great recommendations. Food/drink: We had Thai teas which were exactly as expected which was great. We found that the kanom jib (dumplings) were a bit bland... the sauce really carried them which was quite a disappointment for me as someone who looves all kinds of dumplings. We also ordered the green curry and another entree (which I have since forgotten as it didn't really stand out to me). Both entrees were the same spice scale on the menu but there was a drastic difference in level of spice. Just something to be aware of when ordering. The green curry was better than the other entree but didn't really stand out to me either. Cost: The cost was pretty high when compared with my overall experience. Overall, I'm glad we tried it as there has been so much hype, but for me it didn't quite measure up. read more

It is hidden away inside a small nondescript building in the EaDo / East End district, and its unremarkable exterior hides what few could imagine - some of the best food - Thai or otherwise - that Houston has to offer! Be prepared, though - pretty much everything they have is very spicy by default, and the spice levels only go up. The Thai-style papaya salad was my main dish, and it was amazing - I ordered it "Thai spicy", and unlike many local Thai restaurants, this one actually made it to that level. Next time I may try the Lao-style version of this dish. The cocktails are expertly made as well, and the staff is quite helpful in describing the dishes and their respective heat levels. Super unique Thai experience in Houston. Had no trouble getting a reservation for 6 on a Friday night. The interior design is super vibrant and creates a cool dining experience. The waiters (Taher and Francesco) were one of the highlights of our experience. They spent lots of time explaining the wine options and helping us select items that paired well with the dishes we wanted. The dishes are spicy so be warned! The cashew chicken is top tier if you can handle spice. If you are more sensitive to heat then I recommend the steak, pad see ew, and mango sticky rice. Came to Houston and came to try this highly recommended restaurant. We ordered a few dishes to try some options. We started with the garlic chive pancakes and the papaya salad. The pancakes were really tasty. The papaya salad very spicy and the flavor was not to my liking. I've had other papaya salads but this one was overwhelmingly spicy, my entire party agreed. It's also very strongly on on the fish sauce, if you like lots of fish sauce and spice you may enjoy it but it wasn't for my taste buds. We ordered the shrimp pad Thai and the green curry. The curry was good and the pad Thai had good flavor, I enjoyed the tofu in it as well. My favorites that I ordered were the Thai tea and the mango sticky rice. I loved the balance the sticky rice had with the salty to sweet. We loved it so much we decided to order another one. The curry's each have their own set spice level! Overall, I would definitely come again because it was just so good! We made reservations & street parked. The layout of the restaurant was beautiful. Our server Aaron was fantastic. The food was very flavorful and spicy. The Branzino & pad thai were our favorites. However the Black Truffle Durian Crab Curry was our least favorite. It fell short, didn't really have a curry essence to it. All the ingredients paired with it had no harmony. I found my new Thai obsession in Houston--Street to Kitchen did not come to play ‍ I ordered the drunken noodles (went with "mild" but trust, I'm a spicy girl.... medium next time!), the green curry, and these chive pancake situations that absolutely delivered. Every bite was an 11/10 experience except the pancakes, which were more like an 8.5, but still super tasty! They don't look or taste like pancakes, but they hit in their own way. So my coworker took me here mentioning how yummy their curries were, she was right, their food is definitely good. The downside was the price. The vegetable fried rice was 23 dollars. So long story short, due to religious reasons I couldn't eat meat that day, and I asked if they could give me something with no meat and I'm glad they did. However, I was not expecting 23 dollars for just a vegetable fried rice when there is no meat in it. Don't get me wrong, their service and the beautiful ambiance is just wonderful, but I doubt I'll go here again because of the high prices. When I could clearly get the same thing elsewhere for just 13 bucks. Also, keep in mind, their medium is spicy, I should've listened to the waitress. She mentioned medium is spicy because they use Thai chilli. And she was right, I was in tears but it was still yummy. read more
