The food is good country cooking and it's a reasonable place for breakfast or lunch. Clean and friendly. The potato salad is delicious and banana pudding too. The big biscuits are great. Parking is adequate and close. They all act like they appreciate your business Cafeteria style but line moves fast. My daughter and I were taking a trip to visit UGA and I found this amazing restaurant. We figured we could stop in on our way to campus and grab a bite of breakfast. When we arrived it must have been pretty obvious we were first time visitors, we were greeted and warmly welcomed. There were quite of few regulars sitting around eating and drinking coffee. The team behind the serving line were so nice, but the food was the star of the show. Especially the homemade sausage patty. I don't think I have ever had a sausage patty that was so tasty. Everything was very good except one thing. I got a cup of coffee and when I got to the table I quickly learned the coffee was ice cold. When I went back up to the counter the gentleman on the register apologized and said if I did not mind waiting 2 1/2 minutes he would brew a fresh pot. And he did. I stopped in here on a whim and let me tell ya. It blew my socks of. I order a steak, egg and cheese biscuit and a tenderloin breakfast plate with potatoes and threw on a piece of sausage since the owner said it was just ground that morning. I've been wanting to go out for fish dinner for several weeks now but it seems every time I remember it it's too late. The two places I like to go both close at 2 PM. Well guess what! Today I finally remembered in time to actually get off my butt and put on some pants and go get me a catfish dinner. I decided to go to Strickland's because their fish is better than the other place even though the other place is all you can eat. It's also pretty crowded in there and Strickland is more open because they have their tables set up for better social distancing. I really appreciate that these days and that will sell me on the restaurant as much as good food will. Anyway I got to Strickland's and went in and ordered my dinner. Everything on the Buffet looks great. Everything on the serving line really looks really good but I finally decided that I would have turnip greens and some kind of peas and of course, catfish! They serve both filet and on the bone so of course I ordered two of each! I guess you could tell I was hungry. it's true I was kind of hungry but the main thing is I really really wanted some catfish. The filets were pretty good very crispy but they weren't very hot. It wasn't really a problem because they really tasted excellent. It was also close to closing time. But they didn't hold a candle to the catfish on the bone. They were exceptional and worth fighting all the little bones in your mouth. So if you're ever hanging out in Athens GA and you have a hankering for some good fried catfish and it's Friday, I hope you remember where to go. It really is worth the trip. read more

Asked for 2 philly cheese steaks with extra cheese and grilled onions, and oregano. When i got home, the wrapping was wet; i was given to hoagies, with tomatoes', pickles, lettuce. The sub was absolutely WET. Lesson learned and we ALL knoe this...CHECK THE DAM ORDER B4 YOU LEAVE THE RESTAURANT! This was my 3rd hiccup within a week (Weeyums, Longhorn and Dunkin Donuts) 1. Take 30 seconds to check your order B4 you...LEAVE the restuarant 2. if not, you wasted $$, time, gas (if you choose to go back) and your are absolutely 'FRUSTRATED. Their food taste could improve. They're steak and gravy would have not been fit to eat if I wasn't just starving. It was overcooked way too much and too tough to cut with a fork. Had to use a knife. Charge for a drink whether I wanted it or not it came with their meal. I normally bring my own water in with me so it was not a good value. read more

I was recently looking for a place to get a few minutes of quiet respite from the rain, and a kind gas-station cashier recommended this place. I'm glad she did. Strickland's is one of those fine, old, family-run, Athens traditions. This is pure Southern goodness: home-made eggs, meat, biscuits, gravy, lunchtime-sandwiches and other daily-made entrees with veggies. (The lunch menu changes daily.) The food will definitely stick to your ribs. And it is delicious in all it's Southern glory. And there's really not much else I can add, except to say: Holler if you want some company. read more

I had breakfast here based on some of the other recommendations I read here on Yelp and wasn't disappointed, but I do not see anything special about this place. I like to support local businesses and avoid chain restaurants, and this fit the bill in that regard. This place serves food cafeteria style and I didn't have any problems with the food. The scrambled eggs were prepared well, a little moist and not too well cooked. The sausage and potatoes were also very good, though I didn't see anything special about the biscuit and have had better elsewhere. The coffee, though, was on the extremely weak side, so don't plan on a strong cup of coffee if you go here. I like their hours and the fact that they open at 6 AM for those who are making an early start. I would recommend this place for breakfast and would definitely go again if I'm in the area, but I just don't see enough here to give more than 3 stars. read more

I went by Stricklands several months ago to pick up breakfast. It had always been great until that time. I've biscuits I ordered were so fatty I didn't eat them. I figured I'd give them another try so I stopped by Stricklands for lunch today. There was only one other person in front of me. The lady at the counter was pretty rude to him and not very friendly with me. I was very disappointed with my food. I ended up throwing most of it away. I was hoping they had improved. This place was great at one time. We would be breakfast from there most Saturdays. I'm very disappointed it has really gone down hill. read more

Wow! I use to eat at this place once a week and the food use to be so good! Boy have things changed! What happened?!?! The green beans were unseasoned and disgusting! Good food, friendly staff, good prices. This is one of my go to places for breakfast on my way to work. Huge biscuits with pretty much any meat to go in them. My two favorites are the bacon egg and cheese (scrambled) and the tenderloin biscuit. You'll get plenty to eat and have no reason to leave hungry. You can get breakfast plates as well with 1-2 eggs, meat, side, grits or potatoes, choice of bread (biscuit or toast). You can add as much as you like to any plate, just be careful, it's a ton of food and it adds up in $. Lunch is also good, although I prefer the breakfast. Open at 6:00am if you need some place to stop early in the morning. read more
