Our daughter stealing the fried chicken from us!

This place is so great! My family came to eat after church. We have 3 members with dairy allergies and we were told confidently what items did not have dairy. It was so good. Our daughter loved the fried chicken! She cried and took the chicken right out of our hands! Our son licked the plate after eating the caramel cake! Dairy free items -fried catfish -fried chicken -fried pork chops -all the veggies (Lima beans, black eyed peas, stewed tomatoes, fried okra, sweet potatoes, greens, etc) except the cabbage and Mac n cheese

Buffet and some of the dining area.

Let me tell you, this is real southern cooking at it's best. No frills, no drizzles or reductions... the fried chicken is just right, not too salty or greasy. They mix up the menu a little on some days, and they are open on Sunday, which is somewhat rare for these kind of places. There are options for take out, meat + vege, or all you can eat. This place is what some non-southerners get really wrong about (much of) the south, which is that everyone is welcome, everyone is treated and treats each other with respect.

Certainly the best soul food in town. Better even than most, if not all, of the other southern food choices in town.

We've already visited here five times in the first month in Athens, a good sign that we're happy with this place. There's not a lot to say other than that the meats and sides are consistently very good, with fried shrimp (when they serve it) deserving of six stars at least. This is entirely self-serve, DIY, and a terrific "get-to-know-your-neighbor" atmosphere. We've enjoyed every dish we've had here. Their collards, deviled eggs, fried shrimp and fried chicken all deserve special commendations. Kudos for friendly service, as well. One if our favorite places in town or out.

People in Athens like to carry on about how great Weaver D's is; those people are obviously amateur fried-chicken eaters.

The food: I went with the Fried Chicken Blue Plate. Between the regular and the Nashville Hot, the Nashville was the winner--flavorful and moist without being overwhelming with the spice. Huge shoutout to my server for suggesting the brussel sprouts; that glaze is incredible and they were easily my favorite part of the plate. The mashed sweet potatoes were unique--I'm still debating if I liked them or loved them. The jalapeño cornbread was a bit sweet for my taste but on par with most restaurant cornbread. The mac & cheese wasn't bad, but also didn't do much for me like most restaurant mac & cheese. The cocktail: Do not sleep on Nana's Naissance. I wasn't sure what to expect from the ingredients, but it's like an elevated take on Rumchata. The service: I was seated at the bar and experienced a noticeable delay--a group that arrived well after me almost finished their meal before mine arrived. However, the waitress acknowledged the wait before I even had to mention it and made things right. I really appreciate that kind of proactive service. We're all human, and they handled the situation very professionally.

It had been a couple of years since my last visit, and while they've switched to counter service now, the service was still fast and friendly. They got a table ready for a party of 6 pretty quickly which was great! They have two dining areas inside and outside seating available. I ordered the peach french toast with potatoes, another person ordered the cinnamon roll to start and the a biscuit with gravy. My husband ordered the pulled pork bowl on grits and a side of fried chicken . The kids had french toast with fruit. My potatoes I can tell were from a bag and not fresh cut potatoes. They were tiny and probably what you can purchase at the grocery store, so they were crunch and hard to eat. The french toast didn't have the best taste, and the peaches seemed canned. Presentation was nice but I wouldn't order that again. My husband did not enjoy his pulled pork bowl either, he said it lacked a bit of flavor. The cinnamon roll was a little hard like it had been sitting for a bit. Now for the good, the fried chicken was some of the best chicken I had tasted so whatever is being done there keep it up! The biscuits with the jam available on the table were amazing! The kids enjoyed their kids meal as well. If in Athens again we would definitely get the chicken and biscuit but skip the other items we previously ordered.

Friendly professional service, our server was very nice and helpful. She went out of her way to make sure we had a nice dining experience. Great food options, with a lowcountry inspiration. The menu is lowcountry focused and the food is executed beautifully. We started with a dozen of the local oysters, they were fresh, sweet and delicious, a solid start. After giving the menu a good perusal, my dinner companion went for the evenings special. The evening special was, shrimp and crab ravioli. This is a generous portion of nicely prepared ravioli's filled with a sweet succulent crab and then whole shrimp in a rich cream sauce. Presented simple and clean, she said it was delicious, and my sampling of it was just that. Pan seared red fish over etufee was my choice, again a very good meal. A nice serving of perfectly cooked Red fish mixed over a generous portion of etufee. Spicy, succulent, full flavored. It was a really solid selection and very good. A couple sides to go with our entrees, the mashed potato and brocolli, both were done well, simple and tasted good as you would expect. The biscuits, oh those biscuits. The biscuits were a great addition. All in all a solid dining experience and well worth the effort, good lowcountry food done well. As well reservations are recommended especially on the weekends. 4 Stars - recommended 01075
