We recently found the disturbing results of a rodent attack on our Toyota Rav 4 and an automotive shop in Orangevale recommended taking our car to Stringfields. We made an appointment, dropped off the car and waited for the final diagnosis, which ended up being that we needed a new harness. Bummer. Luis, the owner of Stringfields told us he would do whatever he could to keep the price down on this pricey repair. He found us a salvaged harness and installed it quickly. I have been a customer of Stringfield's Auto Electric since 1984. I have always been very happy with their work. A while back while having some electrical work done, Jon (a highly skilled mechanic working there) had mentioned that they have expanded and now do many other repairs on vehicles, not just electrical repair work. WHY I AM NOW SWITCHING TO THEM FOR OTHER (NON-ELECTRICAL) REPAIR ISSUES Over the years I have used a variety of businesses in the Rancho Cordova region for non-electrical issues and I had found one (I will call Business X) that I felt was very competent. On a major trip early this summer, I began to notice a (likely) bearing noise in the rear of the vehicle which would require a hoist for safe diagnosis (my current vehicle is 4WD). Business X (that had partially changed ownership since I last used it) charged me $130 to (allegedly) diagnose the source of the noise. They determined that it was a need for new tires. Four new tires did not eliminate the noise I was hearing. Another of their mechanics then thought it might be the differential and they recommended another business to help diagnose the noise. I was very upset with Business X for not being able to diagnose the noise since they had hoists. I next consulted with Jon at Stringfield's about the issue and asked for his advice. He said he was very skilled with all the components (including differentials) of my vehicle that could possibly be making the noise. The next work day he road tested it, found the source of the problem, and fixed it that same day. It was a seriously pitted axle where the roller bearing contacts the axle (see attached photos). Had this been a 2WD vehicle I would have been able to diagnose and fix the issue myself. I have repaired this identical damage on two occasions on a former 2WD vehicle. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION: I am relieved that the problem causing the noise has been found and corrected. The noise of concern is gone. This morning (after thoroughly road testing the vehicle yesterday) I let Jon know how pleased I am that he is now working on more than just electrical issues. Rancho Cordova definitely has at least one highly skilled mechanic who I can turn to in the future for diagnosing and repairing such issues. read more

This is a review about Stringfield's Auto Electric being a stand up, honest business. About a year ago, I took my wife's 2003 Honda Accord to Stringfield's Auto Electric to determine if there was a parasitic drain on the battery, because the battery would be dead after the car sat undriven for about three days. Mike thoroughly checked the vehicle and determined that there was no drain, but that I needed a new battery. He sold me an AC Delco battery, saying it was the only brand he sold because he got them fresh, not after they sat in some warehouse for a couple of years. He said if the battery went bad during the warranty period he would replace it. I took my wife's Honda to another garage that I trust for a non-electrical problem. After they fixed the main issue, they told me the battery needed to be replaced. I called Stringfield's and talked with Mike. He said I could come in and he would check the battery and check the car again for a parasitic drain AT NO CHARGE. The next day I brought the car in and he checked it as he said he would. There was nothing wrong with the car or the battery. And it only took him a couple of hours to do it, just enough time for us to have a nice waffle breakfast! Did I mention that I didn't even have my receipt? That technicality didn't stop him from helping me. Mike kept his word about everything he had told me before. I was referred by my mechanic at Neighborhood Garage, when all the power sources in my Jeep Grand CHerokee started to go out, one at a time. I kept reading and researching online with other Jeep owners who had similar problems. All ended up paying nearly thousand to repair, so I was really worried and kept delaying it. When I finally went in (air wouldn't work, windows wouldn't go down, doors wouldn't lock and XM radio went out), I tried to tell them what I thought the problem was. I was soooo wrong. And so was Peps Boys who did a $100 diagnosis and said they needed to order all these parts, which was running into the hundreds, just for parts, and a nearly hundreds dollar charge for something to my coolant system which did not do anything. They decided to wipe my computers "nervous system" (or something to the equivalent of a hard reset on your laptop/blackberry) and reloaded everything. I didn't think ALL my cars malfunctions were due to the same source, however, when they began reloading "software/programs" unto my cars computer system, EVERYTHING began working properly: nice COLD air, music singing, doors securely lock, windows going up and down and up and down! Wala!!!!!! And I was charged slightly over a hundred bucks and they fixed EVERYTHING: that was half the price of Pep Boys diagnostic (and failed attempt at fixing my air). They could have charged me a bundle just for that, because I could tell this seemed like a somewhat new, uncommon problem and they were doing a science project and a little uncertain if it would work. But it did and I think we were equally excited! And the guys were entertaining and pleasant to be around while they worked! That's always a PLUS! read more

The absolute worst service I've ever had anywhere. Brought my car in for a light and radio issue wanted to talk prices but I couldn't because no one was there but the owners dad who told me he couldn't help me I'd have to drop off my car and the owner will call me when he gets in. Two hours later the owner calls me to tell me its a simple fuse replacement and it shouldn't be that big of an problem but he needed a few days to figure out the radio issue. I gave him four. I call him on the third day and he tells me I have to take it somewhere else for the radio because they don't fix audio issues, after he clearly told me they do he just needed more time to fix it, and he was charging me almost 100 dollars to put in a simple fuse.
