I'm not sure how long this place has been inside of the Waterside District, but after hearing mixed reviews of this place, I was hesitant to check it out. So no rush, I thought. I attempted to visit around the Christmas holiday, but the restaurant was closed... Well, my fiance recommended the wings here and since we were in the area and wanted to check out some NCAA action, we opted to give this place a try Friday night. We arrived about 7:30 pm this past Friday, and the restaurant appeared to not be busy as we approached the hostesses stand, but the hostess advised, "there is a 40 minute wait." - Interesting, I thought, oh well, we saw empty seats at the bar and decided to dine there. We sat down and was immediately greeted by the girl bartender. It's sad I cannot remember her name, but her demeanor was super bubbly, talkative and very lively. We asked about the wait time and she gave us some insight... oh well, we were seated and the TV was already set on the UNC game. We ordered an appetizer and our entrees. Not a long wait time at all. Everything we ordered was correct and the food temperature was perfect. Asian wings - great flavor - reminded me of a Korean finish. My chicken sandwich... yummy! My babe preferred shrimp tacos, but she advised only fish tacos were available. He was cool with it... they were tasty! Our drinks... great pours! The atmosphere was perfect! My first experience was great! There is outdoor seating available and I noticed at least three TVs are inside the restaurant. I suggest you check out this place. They offer happy hour as well. The restaurant itself was very nice with a great view overlooking the water. Walked over from my hotel as my coworkers mentioned this place was pretty close. I had the wings which were pretty ok in taste they were just extremely small. Nonetheless the bartender which I wish I got her name over charged me. I know this was done purposely and it's quite frankly stealing. I will be making a call to the establishment tomorrow. Wonderful experience in every way! We had reservations to celebrate my graduation and were seated in a beautiful private glass room overlooking the harbor. Our server Skyler was amazing and went above and beyond to make our experience outstanding. Everyone in our large party of 7 enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The Bang Bang shrimp appetizers were spicy and delicious. The hush puppies, She-crab soup, shrimp po-boy and grilled garlic bread were all excellent. After hearing about the layoff of all employees, I felt it was necessary to share my updated experience. While the food is decent and this place is still a solid option compared to other restaurants in the building, the service left much to be desired. When we arrived, the hostess informed us there would be a wait and began writing down names/ numbers. We decided to head to the bar while waiting, only to notice several groups without reservations being seated immediately. This inconsistency was frustrating. When I addressed the situation, the manager intervened, explaining that the hostess was new and unfamiliar with the process. She said she was gon bring me some more cz they ran out or something but she never did until after I finished my food and paid my bill. I live in Downtown Norfolk and like to try the various restaurants that I am lucky to be able to walk to. I came here once before, years ago, and just hadn't bothered recently, so husband and I walked down on a lark to have lunch with a nice view of the water. The location of Stripers is great (and probably accounts at least in part for the high price point). The design of the restaurant is also lovely, but the atmosphere of a business relies on the daily management of people, and this is where Stripers fails. Don't get me wrong, the employees with whom we interacted were all cheerful and upbeat and we liked them. Our waitress Skyler was nice and competent. But when she wasn't able to bring food out to us after a 30+ minute wait, and she had come by twice to check on how things were (our tea and water were fine but we still had no food), it became a problem. We were seated, btw at the second booth closest to the hostess stand. The first booth was full of kitchen supplies where some of the staff came and sat to roll silver in napkins. When I used to wait tables that was always a side job that was done after the restaurant was closed and patrons were gone...NEVER would we have dreamed to make that the first thing people saw as they entered the venue! We ordered a bowl of crab soup (it was 12:15, and the soup of the day had not yet been made and was therefore not an option) and the crab cake "basket". The soup was not as thick as we expected and was fine but nothing spectacular. The crab cake and its accompanying fries and hushpuppies were all good. The coleslaw was limp and runny, pretty bland and felt like it was from a vat of some commercial stuff, and we didn't eat it. I'm willing to pay a premium for a restaurant experience, but in this case, our $55.00 ticket (including the tip and only the three items - 1 tea, a bowl of soup, and a basket) felt like it was money badly spent. There are a lot of great places to enjoy in downtown Norfolk, and we'll continue to eat at some other ones rather than Stripers. The window view was simply not enough to bring us back- I'd rather make a picnic and sit outside by the water than be annoyed with management that can't run a kitchen or space efficiently. Oh, we finally got our food just after 1PM - a good 45 minutes from the time we entered the building, though to be fair our order was likely submitted after 12:30 as we did sit reading the menu and using the facilities before we had a chance to order. There were other people in seats, but it was definitely less than 1/3 of capacity, so the delay in service was confusing. I'm guessing there was one poor kid working the whole kitchen with minimal assistance. read more

Delicious! Went in knowing I wanted the crab soup after looking on yelp. It did not disappoint. So good, I could have had another bowl! I decided to go with all apps since they were 50% off. I sat at the bar, not sure if it was the whole dining space or not. It was after 6 but before 6:30, not sure the cut off time. I also has the scallops wrapped in bacon and the buffalo shrimp. In general the food is bland and not worth eating. I order the raw oysters and could tell immediately that they had not been shucked anytime recently. I asked the waiter and was told they shuck them every 2 days. That would explain why they had a film over them and some had started to harden and calcifying. I received my entree which was the seafood platter (steamed). The seafood was over cooked and rubbery. Half had no flavor and the other half had the overwhelming flavor of old bay or something similar. The vegetables, rice and risotto were cold, bland and disgusting. Calamari appetizer was crispy but 2 entrees were a flop! I ordered the mussels and they were brought out super dry. My sister ordered the grilled tuna wraps and the tuna was simply not grilled as mentioned in the entree description. The manager also did not handle the situation well and seemed confused on how to take a customer's feedback when we brought the food to her attention. Came in for an early lunch. We got in right as they were opening, so there wasn't too much of a crowd at that time. I decided before getting here, to check Yelp to see what some of the popular menu items were, and duck tacos was one of them. As soon as our drinks were served, I let our waitress know we were ready to order. Unfortunately, she informed us that they did not have the duck tacos. Disappointed, since this is what we came for, and this was a regular menu item. I decided to go for one of their specials, the chicken salad sandwich and a salad. The sandwich was mediocre, and could've used a bit more seasoning. I think I would maybe try them for dinner next time, and check out their shrimp and grits! Had a nice quiet dinner here with a friend on a Sunday night during restaurant week a few weeks ago. This was my first visit to Waterside since it has been redone - I've been avoiding it bc I hate traffic and parking issues and long waits. But when a gal pal suggested it as our dinner spot I said sure thing. It's been long enough. It wasn't crowded at all actually and there were some metered spots out front - still - I parked in the garage across the street (with the attached pedestrian bridge) for $5. There were very few tables inside when we arrived around 6:30 and we were immediately sat. Our indoor booth had a nice view of the patio and water with a fire pit outside - I could see that being a really nice place to eat when it's warm at sunset. I didn't realize it was Restaurant Week in Norfolk so that was a pleasant surprise. The normal dinner menu had a ton of other items that looked delicious, tacos and other fish entrees, but the Restaurant Week $25 menu was too good a deal to pass up. For my stater I did the Mixed Greens salad - with fried cheese, candied pecans, strawberries and cherry tomatoes topped with balsamic vinaigrette. It was rally good and the small circle of fried cheese was delicious. My entree was the fabulous Grilled Tuna Norfolk - with Tuna topped with warm crabmeat and wasabi aioli, fiesta rice and green beans. We sat and talked for a few hours catching up and our server was very friendly and kept checking on us. Great dinner - I'll be back for sure to try out some of the other items. read more

Striper's is the newest addition to the Waterside District that specializes in fresh seafood. I had an excellent birthday dinner here this past weekend. Omg everything was on point. The service here is impecable. I was very grateful that they were able to accomodate a dinner reservation on a Saturday because I've had trouble doing so at other resturants; furthermore, from the time my best friend and I walked in, we were greeted with nothing but smiles and friendly demeanor from the whole staff. Our waitress Chasitity checked up on us several times throughout our meal, and did not miss a beat whenever we needed something. But y'all let's talk about their bomb ass food. The menu here is a little on the pricier side, but it's worth every penny. The cheesesteak eggrolls were my favorite, probably the best cheesteak eggrolls I've ever had. They paired really well with the chimichurri amd ranch. The seafood platter was delicious as well. My only criticisms are that peanut butter cheesecake could have been a little softer and served in a bigger portion, but it was still delicious. I must say thay after my visit at Striper's. By far the worst, most expensive meal I've had in a very long time. Ordered two appetizers, didn't get silverware for at least 20 mins. Calamari, all bread. Steamed shrimp plate was so overly cooked it was inedible. Shrimp was dry and hard. It was steamed plan then someone threw some old bay on top after. Corn mushy. Sausage so over cooked it was truly like dried cured meat. Or the texture of the turkey from national lampoons Christmas vacation. Scallop plate...mushiest water risotto I've ever had. Scallops tasted like they were frozen & thawed about 10 times, then soaked in a pot of water then over cooked with nothing. Server asked how food was and I replied "edible." He gave me the look like he knew...I should've known and left when upon entering multiple servers came to the Mgr for comped food in such a short time... $250 later for two people. Nice lunch outside by the water the other day. The Mango Sangria was delicious and refreshing. The scallops and fries were good, but I feel overpriced for the amount they gave especially since it didn't come with the coleslaw as advertised. We enjoyed the hush puppies, but both of us agreed that 7 hush puppies for $10 was definitely pricey. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Ordered a round of Long Island iced teas and it took 50 minutes for them to come out. Worker said that our appetizers and food were free due to the wait and as a thank you for our service which was very generous, until she came back out and said she could only do a 15% discount. All the food that came out was cold. The fire outside turned off while waiting for our food and it took the workers 20 more minutes for them to figure out how to turn it back on. My go-to for taking company out to lunch/dinner when they're new to the area. Best she-crab soup in all of Norfolk if you ask me and of all the pretty places to have a meal in this area, it's hard to beat the location Stripers has right over the water. Pricing is decent for a seafood place and the service is top-notch every time I'm there. I wish Blue Moon Tap House didn't have monopoly over the beer lists at all the other waterside district restaurants but the cocktail selection makes up for it read more

You can't beat the location! Waterside, gorgeous views! I was staying nearby and stopped in for dinner after walking the waterfront. I sat outside with an amazing view. I ordered a craft cocktail which was wonderful, sadly I don't remember the name. For my meal, I went with a fish special, Mahi with an amazing crab sauce over risotto. It was so tasty, goodness how I miss living near the ocean to get such tasty fish dishes! I stopped in the next night and ordered the mussels. Sadly, these weren't as good. Cooked a little too long, and the broth wasn't quite as flavourful as I'd hoped. I do recommend stopping in.
