Hereafter my email I sent to the restaurant. No answer received. No surprise. Aloha, I am writing to you to express my disappointment with your establishment. I live in Honolulu and, last night, I came to your restaurant at the International Market Place with two dear friends. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice and we were able to get a seat with little waiting time so we decided to try this place out. Our waiter was also nice even though he was so busy that we sometimes had to wait a minute to even get his attention. But this is where the positive elements of your establishment stop. The food came after 45 minutes, the restaurant ran out of complimentary French Fries to start our meal... $33 for a 9 oz. glass of rosé from the Provence region? It said $17 on the menu and then I was asked if I wanted 6 or 9 oz. and get charged $33? We ordered lobster and steak. The steak was nice but came on a plate with nothing else. Not even one piece of green. Just a white plate with a big piece of meat. We ordered two dishes of mashed potatoes (extra charge) just to have something else to go with it. Then the lobster? $59. We expected a nice piece of half lobster for that price but there were literally two tiny pieces of meat on that lobster, sitting on a piece of rock salt. I travel all around the world and have never had a $104 p.p. meal without tip that was this disappointing. I was literally hungry when I left the restaurant. The only thing I feel I ate was mashed potatoes. Since I was with friends we didn't want to make a scene right then and there but we will not recommend this place to anyone. The happy hour here is fantastic. It's much better than Wolfgangs. The bartender Julian was very informative and knowledgeable. He was a joy to chat with when he had time. We had the steak tartar which was hand chopped, unlike, many other steakhouses. The chopped salad was also amazing. The happy hour steak was plenty to share for two people. It was cooked to perfection and served with a generous portion of creamy mashed potatoes and two large pieces of broccolini. Instead of a bread course which is typical at a Mina place, this location offers the best French fries. I've ever had at a steakhouse or pretty much anywhere. The french fries are served with ketchup, tonkatsu sauce, and an amazing creamy truffle sauce. I am definitely returning to this gem! read more

We are gluten free and dairy free. Staff for the most part is knowledgeable and tries their hardest. We were served fries that were NOT gluten free but they made it right by bringing us edamame to enjoy instead. We went to celebrate my birthday and they almost served me a cake I could not have and instead brought out a sorbet. The happy birthday chocolate contained dairy and touched the sorbet so they definitely could do better in that aspect but they tried and I appreciate that! Other than that the food was delicious!! After a very disappointing experience at Wolfgang's bordering on food poisoning and a hostile, inattentive Gen Z bartendress, we decided to try something new. Went for happy hour to Strip Steak. Michael Mina's Strip Steak (Waikiki) is overrated, overpriced and downright bad. Went there on Friday to celebrate a birthday and I was appalled at just how bad it was. I ordered the Delmonico Ribeye for $72 and a loaded baked potato for $13+. The baked potato was under cooked and cold. The sour cream, or what little there was of it, was dried up and there was no hint of butter, and very little bacon or cheese. The server offered to bring me another and that one was undercooked and cold as well, just like the first one. The steak was bland, over cooked (I ordered medium), and chewy. My significant other's Salmon was drastically over cooked and dry. My drink of choice that evening was an old fashioned. The drink was not well balanced and lacked any hint of citrus. Overall, the place lacks the standards that one might expect at an upscale restaurant. At least in terms of the food. The service was good. Not great, but good. Needless to say, I left there feeling quite hungry. The restaurant did do the right thing and comped our dishes but that didn't make up for the awful experience. It put quite the damper on our celebration. Would I give Strip Steak another chance, not likely. Don't waste your money and go to BLT Steakhouse instead. Service is top notch. Ambience is perfect for an evening dedicated to a good steak and a glass of wine or sake. The complimentary fries happened to be the best dish I had for the evening. I would pay for the fries and that's all. I ordered triple seared washugyu, it was done fine. I like wasabi on my steak so this is a decent dish but it wasn't exciting. It didn't save the rest of the meal. Ordered A5 steak and asked for rare. When the dish came, it was cooked through. No chef should cook an A5 to well-done! They did replace the dish, it came out medium-done and still was not rare as i asked. I didn't return it the second time, the team was so gracious when I returned the well-done A5, I didn't want to put them through the same routine. Brocolini dish was not something I expect a restaurant at this caliber would make. It was so boring. The sauce at the bottom of the dish only made it sadder. Had a date night with my boyfriend and haven't been to Stripsteak since the pandemic started and happy to say that dinner was great. They start you off with a complimentary trio of fries and our waiter Nick R. exceeded our expectations. He was super attentive checking in with every meal and talking to him felt like home! His warm Italian nature was contagious and it spread to all his tables around us as you could tell they also enjoyed his service! He helped us make the right decision for a Red wine and was very patient with us. We ordered Caesar salad, the dry aged bone in ny strip, and even though we were full, we ordered espresso and cappuccino and Nick brought us over this delicious dessert with coconut and guava. I hope that when we do come back for dinner, Nick R. is our waiter! His support team around him also deserves credit as they were smiling and happy to serve us. We didn't have reservations, but they fit us in which was great. They sat us at a nice table in a fairly full restaurant which was a bonus. The wine list was award winning they said, but hard not to be with all the most expensive wines. We did get a bottle for $133 which was a decent restaurant price for the bottle we ordered, so we were happy with it. We enjoy wine with our steaks, but you should note this was on the cheap side of their list. I started with an old fashion which was good, but we knew we were spending some money at that point. We were a little jet lagged, so we were not going big, but we ordered the wedge split, the filet, the new york and a side of mash potatoes. We were late in booking a dinner reservation for Thanksgiving night so I ask one if my favorite gourmet friends where to go. He was kind enough to check and found Stripsteak still had open tables. Wow! That sounded great as I'd never been there before and the reviews were great! I quickly booked a reservation for 5:45pm. Very sad to report that we were so disappointed with Stripsteak last night. After reading the reviews and the great recommendations from highly respected diners, our experience left much to be desired. Our 3.5 hour dinner was very frustrating. I made reservations through open table and called before our scheduled date to request that they be sure to hand the bill to my husband. I included a clear description of him ( can't miss with his shocking white hair). Upon arrival that evening, I again mentioned it to the hostess. We were seated in a nice corner of the restaurant. My first thought was "Oh this is nice!" We were given menus and we did ask quite a few questions. We made our choices and our orders were taken. It was quite a while before they brought us the complimentary appetizer. It was 2 trays of perfectly cooked fries and 3 sauces, delicious! Then we waited. Great time for conversation, then we waited... hummm kind of long... Cesar salads arrived, the lettuce seemed so limp and there was a tiny crispy "thing"... oh well I ordered the lobster pot pie because it is one of the signature dishes and I'd heard it was quite special.. for $95 I certainly hoped so. The others in our party had the Delmonico rib eye, salmon and a washugyu rib steak. We also ordered several sides of garlic mash potatoes, Mac and cheese and mushrooms. The sides were enough to share. The Mac and cheese proved to be shell macaroni in cheese. The garlic mashed potatoes were nice and creamy. My husband gave me the cap of his ribeye. Sorry to say it was overcooked and salty, not even over seasoned, just salty. The lobster pot pie was just ok. The sauce was very nice but it was primarily a large piece of puff pastry, maybe 6 pieces of lobster surrounded by cooked kale, asparagus, carrots and onions. The other folks said their steaks were also overdone. We all ate our meals and when we were done, we must have waited a good 30 minutes with dirty dishes until we could flag someone down to take a coffee order. We had to ask them to clear the table. Seriously, I don't recall them checking back with us once the order was taken and the food served. We ordered 5 cups of coffee they served us only four and disappeared! Once again, we had to wait to flag someone down for another cup of coffee and to request the dessert menu. In an effort to give them the benefit of the doubt, I asked our waiter if they were shorthanded. He said no but they had a higher volume of reservations that evening. Our reservation was at 5:45pm, before the crowd. The restaurant is quite noisy in spite of being in a corner. As you probably know Stripsteak is a pretty pricey restaurant and we would not have minded if the service and quality of the food lived up to our expectations. When we pay $145 for a steak or even $67, I do expect it to be seasoned and cooked perfectly... Desserts were ok. I noticed, no corkage fee and no charge for the refill on coffee. We requested our bill and when the server brought it, instead of handing it to my husband, he plopped it down in the middle of the table... exactly what I wanted to avoid. I'm glad my husband was quick. All in all, dinner with an $800+ price tag was a disappointment from service to food. We were really excited about trying someplace new but I'm sure the next time we will make it a point to make an early reservation at our reliable steakhouse. read more

I was hoping for a wonderful experience in fine dining at Stripsteak but got nothing of the sort; instead of a caring and thoughtfully crafted experience, I was met with car dealer like salesmanship pointing to the most expensive items on the menu with no regard towards my questions or the experience I was looking for. Not only that, when I picked the half bottle of champagne I wanted, the host didn't bother to put in my order and basically mocked my choice, saying that it would leave plenty of budget for dessert. I get that I'm new to fine dining, but treating your guests with respect and courtesy regardless of their spending is such a basic baseline, it was truly shocking to experience such blatant disregard. Beyond service, the meal itself was unfortunate. The triple seared wagyu which was supposed to be the star of the show was on par with a run of the mill steak house; just salty with not a lot of depth of flavor. Ironically, the rainbow roll sushi was the best part of the meal at this steak house. It also took forever for the meal itself to come out. Please save your money, and be a patron at an establishment that actually cares about your experience; not just how much they can mark up your tab using fancy brands and expensive drinks. In it's current state I could never recommend Stripsteak, and this overwhelmingly disappointing experience has turned me off ever trying any other Michael Mina establishment. read more

I RARELY get out to fine dining establishment these days, but after winning a gift card for Stripsteak on Instagram, I felt the need to call in a favor to the in-laws for babysitting services, so that the hubby and I could treat ourselves to a nice evening out sans kids. And what better way to enjoy a night out than with a handful of your BFFs. Coming here with a group of friends was the best decision ever, because it allowed us to order a lot of dishes that we enjoyed family-style. The Duck Fries (which are complimentary at dinner time), Instant Bacon and Toyko Tots were my favorite starters. For my main course, I opted for the filet mignon and added the black truffle butter for an additional $5, which was the best $5 I've ever spent! Stripsteak IS expensive, but it's quite reasonable if you stick to the Happy Hour and Starters, and IMHO that's where the best eats are on the menu. read more

This restaurant is conveniently located near many tourist hotels. It is on the third floor of the International Market, (an outdoor shopping mall) and almost across the street from the Outrigger Waikiki Hotel. As a complimentary appetizer the restaurant gives customers a tray with three kinds of French fries and three kinds of dipping sauce. It was fun to sample. For dinner I had delicious Sea Bass. As a side dish I had Garlic Fried Rice with Pork Belly. I like the flavor added by the pork belly, but not the texture of the pork belly. To drink I had a tasty Parrot Punch which consisted of Passion, Orange, and Guava juices, with Coconut and Pineapple. My husband had steak and baked potato. I had high hopes for this restaurant but unfortunately it fell below my expectations for a michael mina place. Let me start with the good things, it was easy to reserve and even move our reservation when we were stuck in traffic. The staff was really great, attentive to our needs and a number of people greeted me happy birthday. They had a birthday card on our table and they also gave a free scoop of sorbet of my choosing. I chose lilikoi which was flavorful but a little sour for my taste. Some of the food items were really good like the steak, the mac and cheese, the nigiri, the peppers and the free fries with 3 kinds of sauces. The rest was so-so. Tater tots and spinach wasn't even worth eating. On the negatives, since it was restaurant week, we wanted to try their special menu. But it was just salad, steak and devil's food cake for $65. The ohana menu was a better value even at a higher price of $85 each as it had 4 appetizers, The steak came with king crab Oscar and 3 side dishes. The devil's food cake as a dessert was kind of uninspired. However, thus Ohana menu is part of their regular menu. We were expecting a better deal or better food for restaurant week. Another annoying thing is I couldn't order a drink from the happy hour menu when I made sure we were there early enough to try their happy hour cocktails. They said we had to move from our nice inside table to one of the outside tables to order the drink. Which of course we didn't bother. All in all, it was good but not great. Happy hour is Mon-Thur 4-10 PM and Fri-Sun 4-6 PM! Happy hour menu is bar exclusive so no reservations taken and you must sit at the bar. We came here for happy hour last Saturday around 5 PM and snagged one of the last seats at the bar. For drinks, we ordered two cocktails: the Le Chiffre (shochu, lavender, dolin blanc) and Gala Brand (aperol, passion fruit, prosecco) because I wanted to try both. These were very pretty (especially the Le Chiffre) and well-balanced. I would get them again. My husband ordered their Sunset Supper, which comes with a tuna hand roll, 12 oz NY stripsteak, duck fat fries, and garlic spinach. For $40, this amazing deal is the reason why so many people come for their happy hour. Practically everyone at the bar was enjoying a Sunset Supper. Since I don't eat beef and was still pretty full from lunch, I ordered their ahi poke tacos ($11). Our bartender made sure I was okay with the portion size (two small tacos per order), which I appreciated. Hubby gave me his tuna hand roll. I enjoyed both the roll and the tacos, as the fish was very fresh and everything was tasty. He thoroughly enjoyed his steak and absolutely loved the duck fat fries. You can also order from the regular menu at the bar. Service was good. Our bartender was friendly but non-intrusive and refilled our waters regularly. When we noticed the bartenders bustling around to prepare drinks for a large group of people out on the patio, we asked if there was a party happening. I want to thank my various yelp friends for all the good times and great laughs we have had at this location over the course of 2017. I especially want to thank Rod U. and Kathy A. who were kind enough to treat me to dinner for my birthday earlier this year. And so yelp folks, I dedicate this review to good food, happy hour, good times, and great friends! Now, on to the review: I have to thank Yelp Hawaii for my first experience at this location. I was grateful to have been included in the YEE that was held last year, a sort of introduction to the yelp community. LOCATION / PARKING: International Market Place, 3rd Level (where all restaurants are located). Neighbors to Stripsteak include Yauatcha and Eating House 1849. Valet and self parking available at IMP. Please remember to have your ticket validated before returning to your car. There are machines on each level where patrons can pay for their tickets. FOOD: I could write every conceivable adjective that would describe "good food", but I will refrain from those long written paragraphs that I sometimes compose, and will focus instead on keeping this review concise (short). To write/say that Stripsteak serves "good food" would probably do some injustice to the chef and kitchen staff who are hard at work in the kitchen making sure that their customers are served only "the best". Instead, I'll just say the food is AMAZINGLY GOOD. I have tried the foie gras, salads, steak, lamb chops, scallops, and the savory desserts. The well prepared dishes are a testament to the quality and product the staff and management at Stripsteak strive to achieve day after day, night after night. Of course, one has their favorites: Mine are the duck fat fries (of course). The scallops were prepared well. The wedge salad is easily shared between two people. Oh, and the malasadas for dessert. DRINKS: Moscow Mule, wine, or Old Fashioned. Wine list and full bar available. SERVICE: I have been to HH and dinner at this location. HH is offered only at the bar, and I only have wonderful things to say about the bartenders. Their service is phenomenal and they are extremely friendly and polite. The servers are some of the most knowledgeable, friendly, polite, and just downright efficient people you will ever encounter. The dedication and effort by the staff to make sure their customers have the most pleasant dining experience possible is certainly commendable. The first was for a spontaneous drop in for drinks and trying out the appetizers where the service was fine but the food wasn't great. I do not recommend the pineapple foie gras. These things just don't mix. The best thing here seems to the the complimentary fries. The only thing that seems to come out hot consistently. For my second session the soup I ordered came out cold. Also, couldn't taste the truffle in it at all. The Wagyushu steak was also cold, did not at all look 12 oz and with the way it tasted did not command what I paid for it (probably because it was cold). Service was not good. I was rushed. When one of the food drop off waiters arrived with my steak, the soup that I was still working on was taken from me without any prompting. This is our go to for that one go big vacation dinner when in Waikiki (the Vegas location is equally good). We go every trip and unless something changes will continue to do so. They held their quality during Covid and unlike some competitors the service remained top notch. As with everything else on the island, prices have increased dramatically over the past couple of years, making an already expensive evening into one that may now be cost prohibitive to most. The restaurant is very nicely appointed, though there is no view to speak of. Of course those considerations are secondary to the food and drink and service. You can't beat the mixed drinks and on this last trip we went heavy on wine with the sommelier giving us some sterling recommendations. The food is exactly what you would hope for from a well known chef. The steaks are cooked properly and seasoned well. The truffle hamachi sashimi is perfect and the portion is generous. The complimentary fries are excellent and if they weren't free I would pay for them. The only thing I would change would be to see if they could add Michael Mina's lobster pot pie to the menu to enhance the seafood options. The service is also excellent. They keep notes on the guests so the next time you visit they know your allergies, how you like your steak prepared, etc. (Note: Apparently during a software switchover they lost some of those historical notes). Those little details make the you feel welcome. They also have maintained a good staff to customer ratio during the pandemic, which means that Covid has not diminished the experience.
