There's no other place like strong hearts in this area. Their milkshakes are amazing but if you have a wheat allergy you're shit out of luck here for about 85% of the menu (if you want a meal) which is understandable because a lot of meat substitutes have wheat. The people here are always friendly and I always feel welcome. I will be coming here for as long as I'm in Syracuse! I forgot to add that I hate the names of the milkshakes it's really off-putting . I love this place, I really and truly do but the wait time today really pushed me over the edge. I called ahead because I know there is always a wait. I was told 30 mins. I got there at 20 and was told a few more minutes, no big deal. I waited another 20 mins before asking about my order (I get it, you're busy). I was told again a few minutes (someone was actually making my food at this point). I then waited another 10 mins before being handed my food. That means a total of 50 minute for two sandwiches. I just don't understand how it ALWAYS takes so long (min 25-30 mins), regardless of time of day. Maybe better systems? They always have at least 4 people behind the counter. So it might be crazy to see me come here. Most of you all know that I love eating well...non vegan food with a passion. That is completely true, but I will say that Strong Hearts is probably the one vegan place that I will come back to over and over. They really do have the most elite recipes that will trick you into thinking that you are not eating vegan food! I absolutely love their breakfast items and their shakes. You cannot tell at all that its not dairy products in their shakes. I had the Butterfinger shake today and it blew my mind. How in the world did they make it taste just like a Butterfinger without using an actual Butterfinger. Can you imagine the work it took to find the right combination of things to make it taste just like the candy bar? Total madness I tell you. My wife got the vanilla espresso and it tasted just like an espresso from Star Bucks. I highly recommend coming here wether you are a vegan or a mega meat eater like me. The major downfall they have is that the prices are really high. It makes sense as it probably costs much more for the ingredients they need to buy. Ok food treats their staff like dirt. Don't support a business who treats people as if they are disposable. Also the cooks don't take their legally required 30 min lunch breaks that is just poor management. They continue to refuse orders when they are still open for at least an hour again poor management. This place is my favorite vegan spot in Syracuse. They challenge the way society thinks about vegan food by creating yummy interpretations of mainstream food. I've gotten their pad Thai which is good, chai pudding very yummy and high on nutrients. My favorite is the BLT (however the bread is better at the strong hearts in Marshall, here they putting regular sandwich bread) and turkey club. I give it 3 stars only because this food is not accessible to low income people who also deserve healthy alternatives. Obviously the struggle is real for many restaurants, but it's clear who Strong hearts tries to appeal to. I understand they want to make profit and eventually give back, but this is a big turn off for me. This cookie dough milkshake was definitely one of the best shakes I've ever had. I would never have known it wasn't made using dairy ice cream/milk based on the flavor. Being that I don't follow a vegan diet, however, I must say it still wasn't worth the hefty price tag. If I remember correctly it was over $6. I know that quality non-dairy ingredients are way more expensive (especially ice cream) so it makes sense, but not so much for a person who has traditional milkshakes as an option. The thing you need to know is that I hold a very special place in my heart for clubhouse sandwiches. I used to get them with my grandfather when he took me to the local diner. Since I went vegetarian, I've had two chances to eat them in restaurants. Once was in NYC, and the second time was here. I would have posted photos of the food, but it was inhaled too quickly! We had the Sassy Molassy tofu sandwich with side salad and the Sassy Burger with fries. Oh. My. Gawd. First, let's talk about the Sassy Molassy. I've never had a tofu sandwich A.) so full of flavor, and B.) juicy. All parts of the sandwich complimented each other. The bread had a nice crispy outside and soft inside. Even the avocado was perfectly ripened and full of flavor. The Sassy Burger, which I believe is Beyond Burger based, was both beautiful and delicious. This was my husband's order and it was all he could do to not shove the entire sandwich in his mouth. His fries, which very quickly became my fries, were seasoned to perfection and had the perfect texture and temperature. I'd also like to compliment the restaurant staff. The restaurant itself was extremely clean and the staff was friendly and professional. I was in Syracuse for the week staying at a hotel next door. Which of course meant I came here several times. My coworker got the hummus veggie wrap twice, I tried the bbq tempeh sandwich and the tlt as well as the chocolate Oreo shake. My other coworker tried a mint chocolate chip shake. I was the only vegan of us three, so I definitely would recommend this place for all kinds of eaters. The food was delicious and I wish I had the chance to try more items on the menu. Also they have like seventy million shakes so if you're into that kind of thing - definitely check them out. This probably isn't a drawback for most people but I was expecting the shake to feel a little "lighter" since they're made with almond milk but both me and my coworker felt very heavy afterward. Every time I'm in Syracuse I make sure to visit Strong Hearts. The menu has lots of variety- mostly vegan versions of classic American fare. Every time I come during lunchtime the line is long and the dining space is packed but the service is friendly and efficient so I never have to wait long. Been to this place twice and I love it! I appreciate a place that openly promotes veganism and activism and this place does both. The art promotes various social justice activists and even the milkshakes are named after vegan activists. As far as the food goes, it's a great place to go if you're in the mood for a sandwich. They offer breakfast options all day too which is great because a breakfast sandwich happens to be my partner's fave lunch option. They were out of a few options when we went so we tried a lunch special. The way they prepared the tofu for the sandwich was a bit uninspired but the pasta salad side was delicious as was the sausage on the breakfast sandwich. I had a colleague invite me to lunch today. He mentioned it was vegan, and while I'm not opposed to vegan, it's not always my first choice for meals. The restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Syracuse. When I entered the cafe, I was instantly greeted by staff and given a moment to make a selection. My colleague recommended the Cajun Seitan and also grabbing a cupcake. While I waited for my food to come out (arrived reasonably fast) I stared my cupcake down. The aroma of the chocolate was so sweet and inviting. While I wanted to go to town and devour it, I attempted to wait, so that I could enjoy my dessert after my meal. After a few minutes I licked the icing and it took EVERYTHING in me not to bite it. The frosting was so decadent! My food came out shortly after, and I devoured my sandwich. You get the option of a green salad or chips with your meal. The salad was simple and had a nice tasting vinaigrette (I'm assuming) on the greens. Everything was scrumptious from beginning to end. I honestly could not tell that this establishment was vegan. If every vegan restaurant I tried were this good, I'd have zero problems giving up meat. The cashier mentioned they will be moving locations soon. I did also see they have a location near the university with a completely different menu. Great food & great location. But the service at Strong Hearts was outrageously poor. I think it's wonderful Strong Hearts has highlighted how delicious vegan food can be, but seriously the people working there have major attitudes. As if all of us who went in had no idea what vegan food was. They wouldn't brew new batches of coffee because it was 11 pm - what's the point of staying open if you can't serve your customers? I've been to way better vegan restaurants where the people who work there educate customers about vegan food. We asked a couple of questions of what they recommended and all we got was a brusque, "Anything vegan is good." The two previous times I had gone I chose to brush off their poor service because the restaurant was busy and they were trying hard to take orders, but this third time there were only two parties there (including us). The guy who was taking our orders was an asshole - just really condescending and acting as if he was too good to work there. Buddy, plenty of people work in food services with a smile on their faces. I like the food, but I am very put off by their poor service. I don't think I will go back. read more

I used to rave about Stronghearts to my friends but after going there for the past two years, I've noticed some recurring things that greatly devalue my experiences there. First off, if these reviews were just based on the food, I'd give it a 4. It's really good for a vegan restaurant and the milkshakes are awesome. I've only ever ordered a peanut butter cupcake in terms of desserts, but I wasn't that impressed. The frosting held all the flavor while the cupcake itself tasted bland. I really like the big cook/guy who brings food to the table but the attitude of the usual guy at the register is very uncouth and makes for a very uncomfortable ordering experience. Also, every time a friend or I order a regular milkshake as opposed to a deluxe shake, we still get charged $5 (as opposed to the $4.60 for the regular milkshake). I know 40 cents isn't much, but I just find it completely unsettling that they try to swindle people like this. I used to think it was just an honest mistake since they have so many milkshakes, but this has happened to me every time I order a regular milkshake. On another note, despite the cozy interior, I always feel uncomfortable eating there because the tables always seem to be sticky. I can't even wipe off the table with a napkin because the napkin sticks to the table. Overall, food good, atmosphere bad. I don't like bashing on local food places but I feel that improvements could be made. read more
