You get what you pay for, and less. Hired Rich Strong, the owner, to repair the metal-surround supporting the windshield on my vehicle last year. This year had to have the whole job redone. They used the wrong gasket and rust surfaced, which means they did not primer before they painted the raw metal. And they did not even match the paint, so there was a 3/8 inch border around the entire windshield. To redo the job, I hired Oleander's in Vernon. The entire frame beneath the windshield was corroded and rusting. Olender's fixed a botched up job and my vehicle came out of there better than new. In the end, you get what you pay for. Plus, Strong's said I would have the vehicle back in 1 week. It took them 3 weeks and would have taken longer if I had not nudged them to finish the job and give me my vehicle back. Poor quality workmanship all around and zero regard for the customer as well. If you want drama in your life and don't care that much about your vehicle, this is the place for you. If you want to deal with a professional, Rich is not your guy. A true NO value establishment. read more

This place is incredibly disappointing. My wife and I brought our Range Rover in after they confidently told us they specialize in these vehicles. After the initial diagnosis, they claimed to have fixed the issue and assured us the car was in perfect condition. Shortly after, we returned the car due to a coolant issue--this time a $4,000 repair. Weeks went by with no real answers. They kept saying they were waiting on parts and couldn't figure out why a warning light wouldn't go off. We had to constantly follow up because they didn't communicate. When we finally got the car back, it didn't drive the same. The engine was unusually loud, and worst of all, the coolant problem still wasn't resolved. Would not recommend. read more

I had the misfortune of not being able to drive my car a few days ago. I called AAA (need to give them 5 stars too!), they arrived within 15 minutes and recommended Strong's. Well, that was a no brainer, as I know the family, but I was very happy for the recommendation. Rich had the car ready a day later and it was a very reasonable price. I had apparently run over a big hunk of metal, unbeknownst to me...so new tire and such. Thank you, Sheila and Rich! Kelly was very prompt calling me to tell me about the car's arrival. There was a mix-up later with my phone number being a digit off and therefore not finding out the car was ready when it was, but that's not a big deal. I was very happy! read more

Strong's is a long time family business, which in the 1950's and 60's was in East Hartford next to my elementary school. Who knew that many years later, we would be reunited and become BFFs? These days, Strong's is computerized and high tech, but it still maintains the nice, friendly, comfortable feeling of an old time neighborhood mechanic whom you know, like and trust. Strong's could not have stayed in business and thrived for 60+ years without a reputation for integrity, honesty, repair work done correctly (and on time) and very reasonable prices. Not to mention, they're friendly, kind, helpful and seem to really care about their customers and their cars. When I moved to South Windsor 6 years ago, I found Strong's, and I trust them to maintain and repair my geriatric 2002 Lexus sports utility. It probably will need a lot of service to keep it going, and fortunately Strong's prices are very reasonable, so I can afford it. Being a woman, it's not easy to find a mechanic who I can trust to not take advantage of my lack of knowledge about cars. I totally trust Strong's as they're honest, ethical, reliable, always available, and do great work that's guaranteed. In fact, I trust Strong's so much that last Friday, when they delivered my car to my home, as a huge favor for me, I didn't know what the total invoice was, so I gave them a blank check to take back to Strong's to fill in the $. When I used to take my car to the dealer for service, I felt like a lamb going to the slaughter (financially) but at Strong's I feel like I'm going to trusted friends who are there to help me with my car. I appreciate the many times I've called Strong's for an "emergency" and they always tell me to come right in. They usually spend 10-20 minutes fixing the issue or reassuring me that it's not dangerous, and can be repaired later. And then, unbelievably, they won't let me pay for it, no matter how much I insist. I enjoy seeing Strong's cheerful employees who seem to like their jobs, employer, as well as happy, chatty customers in the waiting room who have been Strong's customers forever! read more

I took my car to Strong's because it was making a whirling sound at the back and they are the closest to my house with the best reviews. Obviously a no-brainer. When I dropped the car off, I told them I was making an out-of-state trip in the following days. Mistake. Don't tell them that. They did their "complimentary 25-point inspection" and decided that my car needed upwards of $2000 worth of work to be ready for my trip. I asked them to prioritize the things that needed done, but, according to them, all the work was absolutely essential if I was taking such a long trip. Since I didn't want to get into any issues away from home, I acquiesced. So, what's on the list of absolutely essential work that needed to be done? + Wiper blade x2 - My wiper blades would not have won any awards, but they weren't broken and did not need replacing. + Antifreeze at $42.56 - The antifreeze in the car was recently topped up. I also have antifreeze in my car. I'm just really hoping that their antifreeze has some sort of special diamond crystals in it to make it that special. And this is what I could determine. For the others, I have to take their word for it. But it's difficult to not extrapolate and conclude that at least a few of the items they replaced were either not essential or overpriced. What Strong's did was, they took advantage of the fact that I was making the trip and took me for the sucker that I was. "So how was your trip? Didn't you have a great issue-free trip because of that 25-point, fix-all-essential-problems inspection, you c**ting ingrate?" I hear you ask. About that: I found that their inspection did not cover the Sway Bar Links, because 2 weeks later, there was a horrible grinding noise coming from - you guessed it - the sway bar links. Like the idiot that I am, I went back to Strong's, who (after not much of an inspection, to be fair - though the front desk guy *was* pretty certain based on the noise he heard) said it was the struts, and would be another $800 to replace. Since the car wasn't worth the amount that I was having to pay to fix it within a 3/4-week stretch, and given my previous experience, I decided to engage my brain and shop around. I have now had the sway bar links replaced. The noise is gone, and the struts - like the windshield wipers - won't win the coveted Best Newest Struts in Connecticut award, but they are fine for now. I won't be going back. I like keeping my money. read more

I have been going to Strong Auto Care, for the past 5 years and they have treated me and my car with nothing but class and respect. Whenever I call them or stop by, they always greet me with a smile. They have a great team of employees there, led by their service manager, Dan Caless. Dan has always bent over backwards to make sure I completely understand what needs to be done to my car and why. He will give me a list of what needs to be done now and what needs to be done in 3 months, 6 months, etc. He has actually taught me how different parts of the engine work and why something is not working properly and how they are going to fix it. I have a high mileage car--18 years old, 318,000 miles and they have always treated it with care and gotten me back on the road in no time at all. When you bring your car to Strong Auto Care, you will not be disappointed and if anything ever is not quite right--they will definitely fix it quickly. My daughter came home for the holidays and stated that she was leaking coolant. She had gotten an estimate for "repairs" from a auto shop up in MA for $380, but they couldn't take the car until after Thanksgiving. Called Strong's first thing Friday morning and they said to bring it right down. They had the car for the day and did a complete check on the vehicle. They couldn't find a leak. We picked up the car late in the afternoon and to our pleasant surprise they didn't charge us! The car is running fine. Wonder what the MA shop was going to repair?? I already have a review on Google from 2 years ago, but I had to come and chime in again. 2 Years later I had to visit the good guys at Strong's to get my car re-aligned. I had just installed new suspension components on my car, and after the incredible experience I had 2 years ago, they were my first call. Reaching these guys by phone is easy, there is usually someone always reachable by phone which is a great sense of comfort. I spoke with them on the phone, and they had my information from my last visit. I told them that I would require basically the same service, and was hoping that although this is 2 years later, that I could get a similar (amazing) price. Of course, with time and the economy one would assume that prices would raise up, so I was prepared. The gentleman on the phone said he would do his best to get me a similar price but it would all come down to the car. No problem! Their work is worth it. I scheduled the appointment for Thursday morning. I was ok with dropping off my car and letting them take their time. Trust me, I dont do that just anywhere, and am usually that guy that stands outside by the bay door watching the tech work on the car. Given my past experience, I dropped off my keys and told them to take their time. I gave them the specs that I wanted, and they gladly accepted A few hours later I got the callback. The car was ready. They couldn't get one of the numbers exactly to where I needed it, but what they did was get it as close as they could, and match the rest of the car to that adjustment based on my specs. When I went to pick it up I couldn't be happier. My car was safely tucked away in a corner, and visually the alignment looked fantastic. After speaking with the guys, they told me that their owner does the alignments (great guy, met him a few years ago, VERY knowledgable) and he had made adjustments to compensate for driver weight (VERY RARE that people do this). It goes without saying that once I drove the car I had a big ear to ear grin. I autocross with my car, so an accurate alignment is VERY important to me. They have my business for years to come. Oh and one last thing, the price for my alignment, they not only matched it, but somehow managed to knock a few bucks off of what i payed a few years ago Thanks a ton guys. read more

Don't be fooled by the niceties, smiles and handshakes. Don't be fooled when you email your concerns and Rich from Strong Auto says your opinion matters and he will get back to you soon. Don't be fooled by a reasonable quote they give you over the phone after looking up your car model and how much the repair costs. I called about an ignition coil repair and was told it would be about $95 bucks out the door and I was clear to specify that the price was for parts and labor. I already had the problem diagnosed and knew what part I needed as well as what cylinder was acting up (about $40 from autozone). I was leaving for a trip and didn't have time to do it myself so I figured a hundred bucks was reasonable to get it done in a shop. Well lo and behold... after doing the work I was told I had "an expensive ignition coil" (he looked my car up when I called... He would have seen that info then if it was the case...) not only that but I was charged about $40 for "electrical drawings" and some kind of database access fee. Never in the 8 years I have owned this car and brought it to shops have I been assessed such BS fee's. You would also think that if the first price included parts and labor then the 'expensive' ignition coil would count against that. But no, I was charged 100 for the repair (parts and labor) then another 150 for ignition coil. It was for a mazda, it's a normal off the shelf part. Then close to $50 for other intangible BS I never approved. So they turned a $100 dollar repair into a $300 dollar repair. I then emailed them to discuss this and was responded to by Rich Strong who I assume is the owner or something special. He said he was going to look into the matter and that my satisfaction matters. I waited a week before following up and still heard nothing back. I sent a few more follow up emails and got nothing. Pretty sure he spam listed me. I should have realized they really don't care about their customers when, as I was paying, the man behind the counter answered a call on speaker to a woman nicely asking to speak with the manager, he said He's not here, and hung up on her with no delay. That is some care right there. TL;DR - Find somewhere else to go and save yourself from getting screwed out of a bunch of money. read more

New to the area and very appreciative of this company's honesty. Firstly, I checked BBB record, Google and Yelp reviews. I liked the record I found for Strong's. I had a laundry list of possible car repairs based on a consultation from a dealership in my home state. Strong's was very honest and concluded I didn't need all the stuff the dealership said! So stoked to not fork over tons of money!! Love the eye contact, hand-shakes, and re-assurances offered by this business. This place is amazing! The service was faster than any repair shop I have been to. The service manager was honest with me and super helpful with answering questions instead of rushing me through things. He even brought me out to the car while it was in the shop to show me the issues. The price was reasonable, although I have a European car so it's always a little expensive. Lastly, I needed a ride home that evening. The service manager brought me to my house and picked me up the following morning to bring me to work! Unbelievable! Hard to find shops like these nowadays.
