Came to Texas and wanted to try some real BBQ! My husband found this place on yelp and we decided to go since it was the only place open late. I got pulled pork and ribs and my husband got same with beef brisket. For the sides we got potato salad , coleslaw, mashed potatoes with gravy and Mac n Cheese. The Mac and cheese and the bread served with the meal was the only thing edible. We are from LA and I thought I would have to come to Texas to experience real BBQ but my food was not edible. This is Texas... right? How did I manage to find the worst ribs in the state in the middle of Austin? I have never experienced beef ribs so tough that you fight to get the meat off the bone, and then have your jaw muscles aching and feeling numb from chewing so hard and long. I don't know where the glowing reviews are coming from, but this is NOT Texas BBQ. I feel really bad for anyone with dentures. The jalapeno cheese spinach was really good, but you would think that by now they would have figured out how to get the breading to stick to the onion rings so that it doesn't end up in your lap with the first bite. We traveled up there for a Friday night concert. We had never been there before and arrived about 45 minutes prior to the showing. As soon as we walked in, three staff members were congregated by the bar and didn't bother to greet us to offer assistance as to what we needed. I approached one of the servers and inquired where we go for the concert venue. She replied that i needed to wait outside where a line forms. I said is there somewhere we can wait inside and she was irritated that I was questioning further I guess and she said well, yeah and directed towards the dining room. I was shocked at her disregard and felt that we, who were not familiar with the venue, were treated poorly. The dining room was pretty empty (on a Friday night- not a good sign) so we took a table. I will say the server came up immediately to ask if we wanted something to drink... later I spoke to a supervisor about the incident; he proceeded to inform all of us that he was in the area and he did not believe she was out of turn. Guess customer's feelings on the situation doesn't matter. That said, he did refund us our concert ticket costs (minus ticket fees) and we left. There's plenty of places in Austin to listen to a concert- this place is definitely not deserving of my patronage. read more

This place reminded me of one of those "must-see" tourist spots that turns out to be over-rated when you finally visit them. The service can be very slow on busy nights. The barbecue is not the worst I've had, but also not the best. The sauce was very good, though. The best part about this place is probably the live music downstairs. read more

Our hotel recommended this place for BBQ. My husband and I both ordered meal plates with sides. My favorite was mashed sweet potato. But all BBQ was extremely salty and too peppery - ribs, sausage, pulled pork, etc. There was no amount of water or coke that could help us to get everything down. First, Sixth street is absolutely horrid. I don't understand why the City of Austin doesn't do anything about the homeless problem in the area. That being said, it's not up to Stubb's BBQ to police the area. Good food with good portions. read more

OMG Seriously the most mind blowing BBQ ever! I already am having cravings and its only been a day.

We ate dinner here on Sunday night when it wasn't very crowded. We sat at a little high top table at the bar, where we could hear some music from downstairs. It was very nice until the food arrived. The small table was a bit of a mistake considering the amount of food we ordered... We split a wide range of meats and sides. All of it was very good. For sides, the mac and cheese and the sweet potato fries stood out. The service was outstanding. It was a very good experience overall. read more

I'm giving this 1 star because they don't have partial stars. Don't waste your time ordering the all you can eat 3 meat dinner if you're the only one hungry at your table. I went to Stubbs w/my family and neither my wife or daughter were that hungry. My wife ordered a chicken sandwich ($9.95) and my daughter ordered the 3 meat meal ($16.95). For $17.95, I wanted to order the 3 meat all you can eat. I was told everybody at the table had to order the all you can eat because "the kitchen wants to balance out". They know that one person will more than likely eat more than the others at the table (no crap, that's why I'm ordering it). In other words, they would rather rip off a majority of the party than service the customers that are there. Sounds like a scam to me. The customer service was pathetic. The waiter literally took my daughters plate as she was dipping a French fry in her ketchup. Stubbs lost at least $18 today. I know my $18 won't matter, but hopefully others will take their business elsewhere to a more ethical, customer oriented establishment. I WILL NEVER GO TO STUBBS AGAIN!!! Sadly, this was my first visit. I even purchased Stubbs charcoal and BBQ sauce at home (which I will never do again). That's why I decided to try Stubbs in the first place. read more

Not good! I mean, I ate the whole dish, but I was not thoroughly enjoying it. It may have been because I thought it would be top notch bbq and its mediocrity plus high expectations made it seem kinda pathetic. The brisket was dry, the ribs were smoked to saw dust, and the collard greens tasted like they were microwaved. The chicken was pretty good. Wouldn't go again, but I will continue to enjoy their bbq sauce. read more

A large bouncer aggressively yanked my petite girlfriend's arm into his crotch area in order to "apply her wristband" for a concert here. He was clearly trying to be intimidating in a way that was unnecessary. When this was brought to the attention of management, they did literally nothing. This used to be my favorite place in Austin, now it is the last place I would go. The whole experience was, unfortunately, spooky. read more

Stubb's is a great place to eat and see live shows. I was in town for the weekend, and saw two shows here, and both of them were great as far as sound and views go. They have an outdoor ampitheater type stage, and the crowd area is kind of like a bowl shape, so the further back you are, the higher the ground rises. They also have a small stage on the lower level near the bar. I ended up ordering food outside of the actual restaurant, but the bbq beef sandwich was great, as was the beer! read more

I was only at Stubbs for dinner, and not a show, though I hear it's a fantastic venue. I got a brisket and rib platter, and these guys KNOW what they're doing with meat. It almost seems refined--though not in the traditional snooty sense of the word--the way the dish was prepared, down to a science. I've never seen waiters move so fast, though when I dropped my fork in a fit of hysterical laughter it took me a while to flag someone down to replace it. Price is reasonable, food is AMAZING, atmosphere is what it is. I'd like to return for some live music someday. read more

On weekend evenings it might be a bit of a wait for a table, but the food is generally worth it, and there's almost always some sort of live music downstairs, or larger shows on the outside stage. read more

Was referred to from a friend of mines, but already heard about the BBQ sauce beforehand. So I'm downtown Austin in this establishment and checked it out! Different from my first thoughts. Two stories. Upper level seating with bar and lower level seating with a bar and stage for live music, but no music that night in January. Different here in Austin altogether than Houston, San Antonio and other cities around. Food was compared to my nearby Pappas BBQ in Houston which is not bad because it's a local spot and big chain around but I'm not bashing this place too much, but straws will be nice with drinks in glasses. A complete turn off for the city of Austin. Don't adopt those California laws, that's why I moved from that place. I just had to get a to-go cup with water because there law here in Austin they don't serve drinks with straws anywhere. Flu season bring your own or get a styrofoam cup. read more

Caught a show of the Dropkick Murphy's here in Feb. Funtime. I like the whole outdoor thing. The food is good, and drinks are fine, just glad that I got to see this great band and have a few drinks at this place. Nice location too, place ATX is full of ATM's.... So have fun and enjoy! read more

It was the worst. Not worth the money at all..we were so disappointed since we figured Texas would have the BEST BBQ. The brisket didn't even have a charred layer, it was mushy, like corned beef and hash. The BBQ sauce was bland, really needed a lot. A whole new batch of BBQ actually. The cornbread was dry and flakey. The only good thing was a pickle (because WOW that's jarred, not even them) and the fried okra, but even w/ that it was subpar. read more

I saw Cat Power at Stubbs and thought that it was a great place to see a show. It sounded great, and the gentle incline of the ampitheater made viewing the band easy. The 3 bar locations had no waiting, and the men's bathroom inside by the pool table also had no wait. Plus they have drink shelves in the bathroom for convenience! The location of Stubbs is good too. Not far from the craziness of 6th, but still tucked away in its own little area. read more

I've seen a few shows here and the venue can't be beat. As for the food, it was a pretty solid four stars. The beef was smoked to perfection and really tender. The sauce is less sweet than I prefer but its a pretty nice savory sauce to compliment the high smoke on the meat. The sausage was pretty darn tasty too. Portions are small for the price but I managed to leave well stuffed. The potato salad was pretty tasty but a little too salty (and I'm a seasoned over-salter...I loves me some salt.) I didn't mind too much though because generally I find potato salad is under salted. Skip the Mac and cheese and cole slaw though. Salad's are fresh and tasty as well. read more

I came here with some friends for the gospel Sunday brunch months ago. While the food was just ok, the bloody mary bar was good, the live gospel music was fun and overall we had a good time. If I recall, you definitely want to make reservations if you come for the brunch. read more

Disclaimer! This was for the concert but the food was great too! Tried some from the stand in the back and it was pretty decent. The concert experience was great. Considering how warm it was I would have loved if they had a couple fans near the stage because up there the temp was insanely hot. But The concert was great and to help they offered water at the front near the stage. Then I did get overheated and the staff was great getting me to a cooler area and once again brought me water. Would happily go again but seriously hope for cooler weather lol! read more

Stubbs holds a place dear to our hearts. We really enjoy the Gospel brunch they have on Sunday. They usually have two seatings. One at 11 and one at 1pm. Get there early for the best seats. The food is ok but there's a lot as it's an all you can eat BBQ buffett. Definitely a fun event to take your out of town guests to. Forget to say that the music is usually uplifiting and energetic. People don't go to Stubb's for the barbeque. Their signature BBQ sauce isn't very good and it's a shame that the food is so average. The only reason people go is for the music since a lot of good performers come through this venue. I don't like their backyard stage because the lawn is weirdly shaped (doesn't slope well) and the stage is disproportionately small - it's always a challenge to find a good vantage point. For the large masses that turn up for their big name shows, Stubb's really should build a taller stage with better lighting and effects. I usually find it difficult to enjoy their outdoor concerts, but the indoor stage is intimate and the all-male gospel group that performs on Sunday mornings is good to check out if you've never done it. read more

We came to Stubb's primarily to catch a set over the weekend but since we don't live in Austin, we figured we would grab some BBQ while we were there to get our fill. The BBQ was good, but the pulled pork was way too smoky for me to eat. I kept coughing after every bite. It's not the best I've had, but the ribs and brisket were good along with the service. The overall space was really cool with a lot of memorabilia and the music set up was pretty awesome. We'd for sure visit again for the music. read more

Its Stubbs! What else needs to be said. I came down to Austin to see one of my (now) favorite bands, The White Stripes. I had the time of my life. We had lunch earlier in the day and the food was easily some of the best BBQ I've ever had. Later that night, when we went to the show, I was really blown away. The venue looks like crap (Its just a big dirt slope with a stage on the lower end and some vendors on the high end) but when the music starts everything just works. The sound is awesome, the lighting is great, and the vibe is indescribable. I wish I lived nearby as I would catch any band I could at this venue. read more

this place is insane. i have never seen onion rings the size of a necklace before. Stubb's BBQ sauce delivers its promise. the venue (the indoor stage) was great. perhaps the food isn't the best choice before a gig where you'll be standing or the next three hours. it was an incredibly amusing experience. read more

Stubbs is awesome. The food is not super consistent though. Last time I was here, the ribs were seriously the best i have ever had. This time they were a bit salty and REALLY fatty - more than good spare ribs usually are. The brisket however was amazing - and last time i remember it being so-so. Anyway, i was happy and full when i left. One odd thing: they no longer carry the STUBBS spicy sauce in their own restaurant! I was looking forward to slathering my meat with it, and then i was told they only have the original now. The original is awesome, but WTF? They should carry and make available all of the Stubbs sauces. read more
