Overall, I'm disappointed with this salon. I went a few months ago for a perm and two areas of my hair were straight even later that day. I went back and the stylist told me to give it a few days to see what happened. At that same appointment, I scheduled a future appointment for partial highlights - deciding to give it another chance. My biggest concern is their pricing structure, which is very unclear and almost feels predatory. Everything is "a la carte". If I had been charged on the high end of the services listed on the website, it should have been around $170. I was charged $218 - when I inquired about the big difference in what I was expecting, I was told that adding toner and blow drying was an additional cost. How could a stylist determine if the color was correct without blow drying your hair? And how could the client determine if the liked the color? I've never been a salon where blow drying your hair was an additional cost. While apparently the "a la carte" is listed on the website, there was no consultation or discussion of a ballpark total cost. It felt like going to the doctor and just wondering what you'd owe. This is the only place to get a pedicure. The salon has special reclining chairs that put you Into DEEP relaxation. Instead of those creepy massage chairs and jet tubs for your soak, the salon uses huge stainless bowls with some herbal potion that smells amazing. Dianna is a stickler for cleanliness and always makes me feel spoiled. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. read more

I've gone to Studio 170 for over 20 years. I see Diana for my nails every two weeks and she has become a dear friend! Mona does my daughter's nails and is so sweet to her. Josephine's facials are out of this world and I've referred many friends to her that have become loyal clients. I also love the boutique for finding unique and well priced clothes, jewelry and accessories..cute things for vacation and I even purchased a dress for our country club Christmas party there. The staff is all very professional, friendly and helpful on the phone and in person. Can't recommend this salon enough for great services and experience! read more

I am disappointed in the nail staff here. I had gotten my nails done and they were very nice and professional. But when they thought I had left they started gossiping and being very judgemental about clients. I found it to be extremely distasteful and rude. Their boutique items are marked up substantially and they act like the quality is superior when in reality they have several designer knock off items. In addition they charge am extra 4% for using your credit card which they do not tell you about ahead of time. Just because they are in downtown Northville they act like they are "the place" to be. Booked my hair and makeup here in advance for my bridal shower. Stylist was not there when I arrived. No one showed up to do my hair and makeup until a half hour into my appointment. Was informed by front reception that this same situation happened a few weeks prior as well -- seems like a major problem... inform your stylists when you book their appointments. Was told that due to timing, my hair could not be washed. The appointment was rushed and my hair and makeup was way better quality the day prior from a blow dry bar for less money. I was charged full price for a rushed appointment, skipping the hair wash, not to mention being stressed the entire time. Don't go here. read more

I've been getting my nails done by Diana for years now and I would never go anywhere else! She does such a great job and is the sweetest person. If you are looking for a super relaxing pedicure this is the place for you! Their pedicure room is so comfortable. She was pleasant and she asked if I was happy with my haircut which I appreciated because some stylists don't ask for input after the cut. I have been getting pedicures from Deana and Mona for years and it is always a truly pampering experience! I sincerely feel that the foot treatments I receive from this salon are easily equal to the ones I get from the high end spas I go to when I travel. We've all gone to the typical nail shop but trust me this is way beyond that and they will take your feet from sandpaper to Egyptian cotton. The whole experience is heaven on earth and your pampering starts when you enter the quite secluded room with relaxing ambience. Your chair reclines so when you are given your warm neck wrap, eye pillow and blanket you will drift off to sleep when you listen and to the spa music. I do every time. The pricing is surprisingly less then you would ever expect from this level of spa treatment and best of all, they are professionals and respect the importance of a quite atmosphere, (no chatty manicurists here!) The front desk is always super friendly and make scheduling seamless. Studio 170 is the first place I tried, and I continue to go back to Frankie! She always nails the color and cut that I want, even when I'm not exactly sure what I'm asking for. Brought my 12 year old here a few times. Recently made an appointment and I asked pricing. I was told $24 for a cut with the same girl. When I checked out it was $36. When I told the lady at the desk that I was told $24 she said well it has been awhile since she was here. That didn't make sense since I called the day before and asked the price. I went in for a facial and felt disappointed after reading reviews. The lady helping me was chewing gum or something through the process. Which stands out even more when they are right by your face in a small room. Then she told me to take my time relaxing at the end. Well, a couple minutes passed and she walked in without knocking and said, " oh, you're still in here?" . She came in and started cleaning the room. No smiles, no chit chat, just seemed annoyed. I went down to use the restroom and then moved into the small changing area. A minute later she was knocking on the door asking me if I was in still in there and if I was okay? Geezzz. Could you not make me feel more rushed and uncomfortable? Then I went to check out. I've been going for years and I've never been disappointed. The staff is warm, friendly, and efficient. My daughter's wedding party had their make-up and hair done there. Everyone looked fantastic. I was disappointed by my pedicure at Studio 170 :( I paid for the deluxe pedi which is supposed to be an hour and 15 minutes and it was only 55 minutes start to finish. The foot massage part (the whole reason I paid for such a fancy pedi) was maybe one minute per foot. The tech was kind of gruff and said maybe two words to me. The weirdest part is that they tip you really far backwards in the chair and shine a bright medical light on your legs - I felt more like I was at the dentist!! I'm pregnant and asked the tech if she could adjust the seat so it wasn't so far back for my comfort and she said no. It was just such a strange experience for such a high price of $75. I'll just go back to my regular nail salon for my next pedi. read more

Missed the appointment time by an hour for a prewedding styling even though emailed confirmation stated correct time. Badly missed on makeup attempt then apologized and didn't charge...but it was for a wedding, not charging doesn't help. Upset bride very much 1 hour before wedding. Unable to focus on other wedding prep due to studio 170 mess up. Wedding had to be delayed an hour due to this place. Other than that they are great. read more
