I've been a loyal client since 2020 and today's service left me frustrated and upset. I was hoping to have a relaxing self-care day and decided to add the VIP Excel service to my natural hair services (NO STYLE) but it was far from relaxing. I had to ask for a glass of wine and was never offered or asked about my food preference. There's always at least a 15-20 min wait but todays wait was longer than normal. My appointment began at 1 and didn't leave til after 3 for a no style service?! That is ridiculous. I've been coming to this salon for over two years now so I highly recommend it. I saw a reel on Instagram and I was ready to finally cut off my colored ends and rock my gray hair. So I scheduled my appointment at Studiochique and met Loni. She cut my hair shoulder length and for the first time I absolutely LOVED my hair! Before that moment, I typically was indifferent about my hair and whatever style I left with. Fast forward two years and my hair is healthy and waaaaayyy longer than it was when Loni cut it. (a couple inches from my waist to be exact.) Aloni is a gifted stylist and she truly cares for and about her client's hair. Whenever I have questions about trends and ideas I see on social media, she answers honestly so I know what's good and not so much. I'm really disappointed to have to write this review but I don't have a choice. I waited more than 30 minutes for my stylist and it seems like stylists show up late quite a bit here. It also seems like they use way too much heat here for black hair. I don't wanna come get my hair done and then find out it's damage to the next time I wash it. Also, whoever the front desk person doesn't have a very good attitude. I popped in for a visit one day before actually going and there was a different girl at the front desk who was very nice with bright colored hair and a warm, welcoming attitude. But when I went recently, I didn't have a very warm and friendly experience. It just seems very disorganized and unprofessional. Also, the location is not that great. There's a bunch of men trying to talk to the women outside it's very uncomfortable. For the high prices that they charge I would recommend going to another salon in the city. Unfortunately today I didn't have a good experience with this salon. I had an appointment for 11am for a haircut. I received a text around 9am on the day of my appointment from the salon asking me if I was going to make it to my appointment and I responded with a yes. I arrived to my appointment on time! Then I was told that I only scheduled a haircut which is a "add-on" service, but that they would still see me. If you see the schedule for the day and noticed I only booked for a haircut why wouldn't you call me to tell me this. So after I checked in, the receptionist explained to me that they are short staffed due to the bad weather we had the day before and I would have to wait longer than usual. Well I ended up having to wait an hour! Ok, not a big deal, I can be understanding about the lack of stylist due to the weather but again, when I was contacted earlier that morning, why wasn't this me mentioned to me. I don't understand why it is ok for a client to have to wait an hour, but yet if I were to be 15 mins late then it would be a problem. The stylist starts cutting my hair and then stops to attend to another client and after 20 mins comes back to me. I wasn't given a Cape so I ended up with hair ALL OVER ME, my face, purse, jacket, scarf. I had errands to run after my appointment and had to worry about getting hair all over the place. The stylist didn't give me a mirror so I could look at the back. And although I was given a mediocre service I was still charged full price. I at least could've gotten a discount for the hour wait. FYI - the esthetician was clearly done in 30 minutes I'm not sure what you were told but your receptionist saw that my service was completed in 30 minutes. I never had a consultation nor was I told to take my shirt off. I was told we don't do that here. I asked if she could put a towel over my shirt so it wouldn't get wet. I should have read reviews more carefully. The owner Ngina takes pride in the salon and it's very pretty but that pride takes over when humility would better suit the situation. I've never written a bad review, but don't want anyone else to go through what I have. The first time I visited this salon, I got a silk press. i was advised by the stylist that it would last a week or two if I wrap it. The same evening, my natural hair was half straight, half fro. I had to wear a bun. Fail. $70 wasted. Stupidly, I went back a week later because my regular salon was closed and I was leaving for a beach trip w/family. I got a sew in and brought my own hair and closure. The stylist said I needed to choose between getting an elastic band or glue to secure it. I don't do glue. Throughout the sew down process, I was uncomfortable. I was working on my laptop and didn't watch her every move. I continued to tell her it hurt and she'd loosen a thread here and there. When she finished it looked nice. My head was extremely sore and my eyes were pulled tight. I tipped the stylist as I always do when I visit a salon thinking it would loosen. By the time I got home I was in a lot of pain. I hoped it would get better in a day or two and I left town. The pain worsened with each day. I was taking pain pills and I noticed scabs on my hairline under the weave by day 3. I called the salon from out of town and told them there was a problem with my sew in on their answering service. My vacation was not good because my head hurt so badly. I could barely sleep and had to prop my head on my hands. When I returned to DC, I practically ran back to get it taken out. It had only been in a week. More money wasted at this salon. We noticed there was still a deep dent in my hairline, after over a week, WTH. My edges were gone. I winced as it was taken out because it hurt so badly with each braid she took down. My scalp was hit. I was shocked to see how small the elastic band was that was used around my head. It was tiny and I do not have a small head. Sadly, there were more scabs and sores on my hairline and bald spots on my edges, in front and back. The stylist who had put it in seemed surprised and remorseful as she took it out and saw my hair and scalp condition and the pain I was in. I asked to speak to the owner by phone for a resolution because she wasn't there. I asked her for a refund and she said she doesn't do that because she'd already paid the stylist and incurred other business expenses and "there's a lot more that goes into it". Wouldn't even give me a partial refund. Huh??? She asked me to come in the next day so she could see my unwashed scalp. I was taken upstairs to the top floor where Ngina asked my braider a bunch of questions about that day in front of me and other patrons. She then examined my scalp, sores and bald spots and defended the stylist who installed it and said it may have been an allergic reaction to the Got2B gel they used. Not the case because I've used it before. Said nothing about the dents under the elastic band and sores around the braids. She asked me repeatedly if I burned myself with a flat iron. I told her repeatedly that I didn't have one on the trip with me and the scabs were UNDER the weave. She blamed my scalp and said I had "inflammation". I told her I didn't appreciate being blamed for the bad service and damage to my scalp that was not inflamed when I went in. After almost getting into a heated discussion in front of other customers, she said my hair and scalp were too damaged for another weave so she offered me a complimentary rod set, $65 value, to make up for me spending $352.00 for a horrible weave service (hair not included). The owner Ngina puts profit above customer service when there's an issue. She's comes off as beyond prideful but maintained a professional tone throughout. She talked up her expertise in hair care and hair loss solutions while placing responsibility firmly away from the salon and onto me for not asking to have it taken down while it was happening. She dismissed my pain and said another person with more pain tolerance may not have needed to take pain medicine for what my scalp went through. Look at the pictures. She offered to let me come back and sit under her laser hair growth dryer thing a few times to help grow back my edges. Just an up-sell because it takes much more than a few sessions to see a result. I never went back. If you try them or another new salon, use Amex. I disputed the transaction with Discover Card, and Ngina refused to refund them as well. Discover eventually refunded my $352.00 after I sent them the pictures of the damage and my texts to Ngina after the service. Thankfully, my edges have been restored and my scalp is healed after several months. I used Crisan oil and Crisan hair vitamins and they work. After frequenting this salon for the last five years and providing multiple customer referrals, I will NOT be returning. The salon has made no attempt to reconcile or even contact me to understand what happened, which is why I am leaving a review. From the way the salon is ran to the negative attitudes of the stylists, there are other salons in DC that take pride in their service and value returning customers and don't see them as a burden. This review is for failed hair coloring services and wig construction. I was initially scheduled to come in for a single process color. The salon had a water issue and instead of alerting clients in the morning before their arrival, they only informed me when I showed up. I took off work to make this appointment because I had gala events scheduled, so while I recognize it was not the salons fault, there's a certain level of service and communication you provide to customers when things like this happen. I waited hours at the salon just to be told I have to come back, the stylist gave me an attitude about the rescheduling as though it was my fault the water was off and was annoyed with my frustration even though I said I had an event where I desperately needed an appointment (why are you not proactively rescheduling the clients right in front of you waiting, instead they were rescheduling people that weren't even there). I was given a $16 dollar discount for over $400 worth of services... you read that right. $16 dollar discount for having to miss work and be rebooked for an entirely different day. To top it off, when I arrived the next day, the stylist was not there and she had a shampoo and braid assistant do the coloring. Why is someone who is not certified in coloring doing the coloring without assistance from the lead stylist? As a result she applied the color WRONG (didn't start from my ends AND I ended up with hot roots) and the color was entirely different from what I had requested. Mind you, the stylist had dyed my hair a similar color before with no issue, so how I left the chair with a completely different color makes no sense. The attitude was so bad all I wanted to do was get out of there. Now for the final straw. I had paid to have my bundles colored and installed for a wig. The stylist sat down with me and went over the dates, told me it should take no longer then a week since I was first in line and that if it took any longer I would be notified in ADVANCE. The evening before my appointment, I was told another stylist has the bundles and that the wig had not even been started. I was furious. The bundles had been with the salon for over week, no one notified me about any kind of delay, and once again I was not going to be serviced on the date of my appointment. I needed the wig by a certain date, so I gave up and went to pick up the bundles, turns out the bundles had been dyed, but there were jet black spots (looks like splattered hair dye) on several of the bundles. So for over $400 I did not receive a wig or my appointment, I received an entirely different hair color, I received bundles with speckled jet black hair dye on them, and I received attitude and a $16 discount. So I got my haircut here on Tuesday. I have to sit with a haircut for a while to see how I feel about it and, honestly, I love it!! Three days in, on a windy day, all the gel has failed and each curl has gone where it will and this cut is the BOMB! The salon bills itself as a DevaCuts Salon and uses all of their products, but because I frequently straighten my 3c/4a curls, I didn't want a pure DevaCut. I did a quick consult with Octavia and she recommended a deep conditioner and transformation. She cut my hair blown out and it lays absolutely perfectly curly. She found my shape effortlessly and is truly skilled. I mean, I was shocked and a little worried because she finished SO quickly (I legit thought there was a patch in the back of my head or something)!!! But she knew I made a lunch appointment and she is efficient in a way that those of us who grew up on black salons will appreciate with a reverence borne of unfamiliarity lol. This is my happy place! The location isn't hard to get to, it's between two metros and very close to Howard's campus and a short Uber or bus on Georgia from downtown or NW. The owner has done amazing things with the place, it's a true oasis. There's a "headphone" policy to prevent the salon from getting obnoxiously loud and they clearly don't allow double booking. The shop is beautifully appointed, even though it's quite small. The space is extremely well laid out and the owner has taken extreme care with the decor and the training of staff. I was PROMPTLY and professionally greeted by the receptionist who took my coat and hung it up and informed of the headphone policy for phones--which offended me tbh, but only because I am not a barbarian . My stylist arrived for my cut on time and took me back less than 2 minutes after my appointment time. My appointment was at 1:00 and I walked out of the salon at 2:07. I never felt rushed. She washed my hair personally. I was shampooed 3 times and deep conditioned. She also spent a good deal of time on my consultation. She discussed how much hair to take off during the consult--for those of us who have had an unnecessary and unplanned haircut when we wanted a trim this was MUCH appreciated! Octavia is talented and efficient and I'm sure that she's equally amazing with Deva Cuts, but the way this looks, I may never need one again! The cut wasn't horribly pricey either, the price is in line with what I'd expect to pay in the area and overall I am very impressed with Octavia, the shop, and especially my haircut; which, to be fair, looks like every length retention cut I've had in a decade but that's on me not her lol. read more

So this happened yesterday. I came in for a 60 min. Swedish Massage with Marsha. She was amazing! Attentive, a great listener and communicator, working out tough tension spots in a way I didn't even know was possible! My massage was amazing. Great pressure, great technique, hot towels and some kind of scrub that made me feel like I was on a beach walking in the sand. I didn't realize how tight my body was until the session was over. I felt so much relief afterwards. I would recommend anyone to give it a try. I wish I could come every week. The facility is clean, beautifully decorated, relaxing and tranquil. This was my first time visiting this salon. They are very popular on IG and I had two friends visit in the past week so I gave them a shot. I saw Clara who was very nice. I appreciated her detangling my hair carefully while in the bowl and during my conditioning treatment. I also hadn't had my ends clipped in God knows when so she took care of me while still maintaining my length. She recommended a biotin regimen a client of hers uses that she saw results from. I can't wait to go back as I've never been to a salon that treated Black women's hair so delicately. A woman across from me with thicker and longer curls was getting her hair detangled and it made me even more appreciative. The only recommendation is that we weren't socially distanced but it's not a huge salon. I wasn't uncomfortable, everyone wore masks and it wasn't crowded the day I went (New Years). Second visit today and I can say I've found a new home for my hair care. My first stylist was Aloni about 6 months ago and today Clara took care of me; I visited both times for a perm and trim/styling and left quite satisfied. When they said it's a full service salon, no lies were told. Covid precautions are followed and both my visits were efficient- all stylists work together to get you in and out there quickly enough and you don't sit around waiting. The IG page is amazing but my experience wasn't that great. Person blow drying my hair didn't know what product to use to prevent frizziness and when she reached out to the stylist, the response was they were out of whatever product that should be used on my hair. Fast forward, I was satisfied with my shampoo and trim but I wanted my hair curled, and when looking in the mirror, looked great. However, later when I ran my hands through it I realized the stylist used spritz (or something similar) I guess to "hold the curls". My hair was sticky and stiff. I'm not sure if the stylist wasn't used to my hair texture or what. I wish they would start tagging the stylist's work on their IG page so ppl could book with a little more confidence. They're worth a second try just not with the same stylist. read more

This is a very nice salon but has its pros and cons. I have been here several times. Two for hair and once's for a spa day (waxing, eyebrows, massage). Pros: -The salon is nice. It stays clean and has plenty of space - Ngina did my hair and she is amazing. She is a good colorist and like the cut - The other services I had were good I felt relaxed Cons: - Nobody wants to stay in a hair salon for 5 hours. My appointment was at 930 they started at 950a and I was there long enough to see her do a couple peoples hair at the same time. I wanted to leave with it dry but opted for the wash and go (naturally curly hair) because I was so hungry and didn't leave until almost 230p - The price. I used to get my hair cut and colored at my prior salon in dc and out of prior places I've been I've never paid so much, not even close. I moved to D.C. three years ago, and Studio Chique has been with me since day one! I initially went to SC for a waxing, which was incredible. On my way out I saw the owner styling a client, and I knew that I needed to come back for a hair-related service. As a 100% natural 3C, I recognized immediately that Ngina knew what she was doing and that she truly understood curly hair. I now get all of my color, cuts, and styling done here. I hate to brag, but people stop me in the STREETS to ask me where I get my color done/ how I maintain my hair. Every time I go to SC, the Staff gives me recommendations re what products or treatments to use, and explains what my hair strengths and weaknesses are. Beyond this, the staff is extremely mindful of timing, appointments, and efficiency -- even if you are getting a complex service like a sew in. For the first time ever, I feel like I can voice my styling preferences or ask questions mid-service. The staff is extremely respectful, and I have witnessed firsthand how they respect client's wishes at all times, even when dealing with a difficult customer. I accredit the excellence of this salon to the owner, Ngina. She is an absolute joy to be around; she will have you laughing, thinking, crying, and repenting-- all while the curlers are setting. This is a true barbershop experience, and I value this just as much as the exceptional service. I am also amazed at the diverse clientele. This salon somehow manages to be first and foremost dedicated to black hair care, but still manages to accommodate every type of person's needs on the regular. I think it speaks to the reputation of their work. This wouldn't be a complete review if I didn't give Octavia a plug! Based solely on my watching her work while getting my hair pressed by Ngina, I knew Octavia's extension services were on par, if not superior, to any renowned salon in Atlanta. I have recommended dozens of friends to use her, and all of them have gone (all it took was a simple glance at her Instagram to know that I was not playin)! Octavia also does one of the best silk presses ever. I use Octavia and Ngina interchangeably, depending on their availability. I trust these people with my hair! I have never had a bad experience. It has taken me almost six months to write this review because I've been so absolutely heart broken. If you have natural hair, DO NOT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD VISIT THIS SALON. (The owner will write a response to all negative reviews that shares why they are not responsible and how the damage is the clients fault.) After over three years of being natural, I have gotten my hair straightened on several occasions by a professional stylist who specializes in doing natural hair in Georgia. There have never been any issues, my hair has always been shinny and returned to its curly state after it's washed. I went to studio Chique to get a silk press for my graduation and when I went to wash it a week later, not a single one of my curls returned. When they blowdryed my hair, the salon was smoking. They put so much heat that even when she straightened it it laid so flat. There is absolutely no need for that much heat in any scenario. When I called the salon and informed them about the heat damage, they told me to come in to see what occurred. When I went back, Ngina told me that the salon did not cause heat damage and I shouldn't have gotten my hair straightened in the first place because it lacked moisture due to "sandy blonde hair being too brittle." From the other reviews where former clients have complained of heat damage, all Ngina does is lies in the comments and places blame back on the client. She takes no responsibility and insults you instead of apologizing for overuse of heat. If you have natural hair, please for the love of Jesus Christ do not visit this completely unprofessional salon. After several hydration treatments, I've still had to cut off a lot of my hair despite three years of hard work in being natural. The owner can make whatever comment she wants in response to my post, but I'm sharing pictures because pictures don't lie. My hair is ruined because of studio Chique and I will most likely have to cut off all of my hair because it is now two completely different textures. Came in today with Ngina!(best stylist) in the area. I have been coming over a year and half. No complaints or issues and always a pleasure.I love the vibe....The staff are wonderful to work with as well. I got a traditional sew in on Friday. first, the install took about 5/5.5 hours but the website says it should take 2.5-4 hours. I think they were down a stylist so I got have my head down, go wait so the stylist could finish another client, then finished me. I didn't mind but hopefully the salon could notify clients that services may take longer than expected. By this monday, I had to take it out. There was so much tension on my scalp, it started blistering (posted a photo -- little blurry). I've had sew in/extensions done in the past, and I never had such pain that I needed to take out the style 3 days later. I believe that a knowledgeable stylist would not have made such a rookie mistake. However, the styling part of the install was great and the curls lasted three days so I was really upset I had to take it out. I've gotten silk presses done at the salon many times and they always turned out flawless and would highly recommend going there for that. For traditional sew ins, I would find another stylist. read more
