We still come here for almost every movie (especially when we have a Groupon - can't beat $5 for a movie!). Not paying super close attention when I was buying tickets to see Star Wars, I accidentally purchased tickets from Studio Movie Grill. Having had a huge breakfast, I wasn't thrilled that I was inadvertently going to a dine-in movie theater where I didn't plan to dine. I anticipated plate clanking and talking, BUT - I was pleasantly surprised. The ticket taker hands out menus as soon as people are entering the theater, and the waitstaff is pretty diligent about encouraging folks to get their orders in before the movie starts. The eating and delivering of food really wasn't as big of a distraction as I expected, so I was happy about that. The seats are decently comfortable, and though they don't truly recline, you can lean back in them. Thing is, you have this highchair-like table sitting in front of you (cause you typically go here to eat) which can be kind of uncomfortable to maneuver if you aren't eating. I can't speak to the food because I didn't order any, but the staff was nice, and any movie interruption was pretty minimal - maybe just slightly above the normal amount you might expect with people getting up to go to the bathroom, ect. read more

Came here on Saturday to see the Joker! This review is about just the theater however. I really want to like this theater more but every time we come it is just okay. Although I do like the concept and the open space in the lobby. When you walk in there is a full bar on your left. The right side is where you can buy your tickets if you haven't got them online already. I highly recommend buying them online though because this theater is one were you can pre-select your seats. The seats don't recline at all and are a bit stiff. I sound like a movie theater snob but I've been to so many theaters that have the fun chairs that recline back with your feet up and it's hard to go back now! Oopsies. The food here isn't my favorite. I'd just stick to the basics such as popcorn or more bite sized food rather than a meal. They have a decent beverage selection ranging from cocktails, beer, and a variety of wines. The beer selections were lacking though. They were all fairly priced. Well let me start off by saying I've been here before and my experience was great which lead us to come back and recommend it to friends. This time was a little different, we arrived for the late viewing of the color purple and the experience started off well we were served drinks by the manager who was very nice but was leaving for the night. We had a whole theater to ourselves which was surprisingly nice . We ordered food appetizers popcorn and entrees which all came at the same time,during the movie the lady apologized and offered to replace items but it was to late the only thing good by then was the company and the movie. Popcorn,chicken nachos,cold and chicken tenders cold and hard .suffice it to say we enjoyed the movie because we were forgotten about. Im giving 5 star because of the delicious food we got today. But because of mother nature's madness the power turned off after 5 or maybe 10 min after the movie started it was bad and im so upset. Se were sitting probably more than 30 minutes waiting for the power to turn on and nothing still coming up. Well it was an unfortunate night because of the bad weather the business doesn't have anything to do with it, But at least we got a good dinner and it was worth the price although we didn't see "Happy death day" But i got Happy dinner meal! and thats all that matters. It's nice to stray away from AMC every once in a while. Although this theater is a little ways from me, we came for the $25 meal deal for two. Pick any app, two entrees choice of (burger, chicken tenders, salad, or pasta), and add a dessert for $5. Here is what we had 1/2 order of Loaded Chicken Nachos: big portion size that we were able to split. This dish was ok. Burger: came with a ton of fries. Burger was huge. Arcadia Chicken Salad: an array of different veggies, olive, cheese, and a side of pesto sauce. Totally delicious. Wasn't expecting it to be that good. Brownie Sundae: 1 scoop of chocolate ice cream, 1 scoop of vanilla, cinnamon and sugar tortilla chips, brownie, and chocolate syrup. Massive portion! (No picture bc it was too dark to take one by that time.) Food was exceptionally good for a movie theater and portions are massive. We brought home left overs. Service was on point. Chairs do not fully recline but that wasn't a big deal bc they were still very plush and comfy. Entry lounge and bar is very nice and not like your typical AMC where there are concession stands in the lobby. What impressed me the most is they offer a breakfast/brunch menu. I would def love to try that one day. For weekday shows you can purchase tickets on Groupon for $5 which is a steal bc normal ticket prices are $21. My husband got our tickets from Groupon and it worked great. We ordered the Combo for $25, which is a great deal. We ordered for an appetizer the half-size chicken nachos and for entrees we ordered the chicken crisp tenders tossed on BBQ sauce with a side of ranch sauce and a steak flatbread. The chicken tenders were the best! I'd skip the flatbread, even though it has a bigger portion. The only two reasons why I'm giving 4 stars are: - once you're done with your food you will have the dirty plates in front of you for the rest of the movie (there were empty seats near us, so we were able to put it there). - the seats don't recline AT ALL. This is such a cool place to watch a movie with friends. Great for adults, with lots of drinks to choose from. The only negatives is that there are no recliners (I'm spoiled now that even less expensive theaters have recliners) and their popcorn tastes closer to Orville Redenbachers than the usual movie theater popcorn. We did a private party for my kids 6th b-day party last weekend, and they were incredible hosts, and it was one of the coolest parties. read more

I was looking forward to lunch & movie with 2 others today, and was enjoying being back in a real movie theater when we arrived, even though there were only 9 patrons seeing the movie. Our food order was taken promptly, and our drinks delivered. Then...nothing. When 2 orders did arrive, one of them was completely wrong. My didn't come at that time. I watched as the other patrons were served. Still no food. I waited another 10 minutes, thinking they may be short on cooking staff. I finally pushed the button to contact the waiter. They came & asked what I needed...."uh, the burger I ordered more than 30 minutes ago...?" They came right back...with a cold burger & fries. I was going to speak to the manager once the movie was over, but thought I'd spare the other 2 people I was with. I didn't find out they they had a problem with their own order 'til we left. But they decided to go ahead & eat it since the movie was well under way & they didn't want to have to try to explain the mistake & disrupt the audience. The quality of the food has decrease. Used to love the coconut tenders but when I went with friends the tenders had no flavor. The sweet potato fries some weren't cooked all the way. I've been here a few times in the last couple of years and this is my go-to movie theater. The service is usually good. The theater is always super clean. Cons would be the menu items are expensive for what you get. This last time I visited, the salad I ordered was not correct but since I'm in a dark theater I didn't realize it until several bites in so I just dealt with it since the movie was almost over. We also had servers try to give us food that wasn't ours. This was annoying and since the set up is clear with where the seats are, I feel this should never happen. read more

I'm sorry Studio Movie Grill, it's not you, it's me. Things just aren't going to work out between us. I stuck my fingers in her mushrooms (not a euphemism) I ordered the Spielburger (cute, huh?) and she got the Megaplex. The Megaplex has mushrooms, I hate mushrooms.. so of course they served it to me. In the dark. I don't really hold the mistake against them.. it's a symptom of a problem that I am not interested in exploring any further. Being served and eating a full meal in a movie theater is not my cup of tea. The food and tickets are pricey, the food is good, not great and you can't see it. It's distracting, at the beginning of the movie I found it difficult to concentrate. There was too much going on. Servers moving about, and me trying to figure out the food in front of me. The theater is very nice, it's clean and comfortable. The server was very nice and I wouldn't dock them a star for the food mix up, it was a simple mistake. The seats are very comfortable and the movie was good. I would have taken a picture of the food.. but it was frickin' dark! And it's a movie theater.. using my phone like that would have made me part of the problem. Can you say double feature? I prefer the traditional movie experience... some popcorn, some candy, an Icee or soda and my feet up on the railing in front of me watching the movie I paid for and looking forward to the second one that I'm going to stay for...gratis. Haters gonna hate! I don't get all the hate for SMG! After reading all the reviews tonight, I was very hesitant as to what I would encounter tonight. I braced myself for the worst but was pleasantly surprised. If I'm going to dine & eat, I prefer Hollywood Palms, but it Studio Movie Grill is still a good choice for in theater eats. The normal ticket price is $9.75 or discounted prices before 6pm, so a bit cheaper than AMC theaters but a bit more than Hollywood Palms. I must note the chicken fingers are really good so if you're looking for a tasty option, I suggest getting any variety of the fingers (regular, crunch, coconut or buffalo). Also, some people said the workers stand in the way but I saw them all trying to crouch over while walking and they didn't effect my movie watching at all. I honestly did not notice them while watching the movie. Negatives -No refills on pop. I'm not sure if they just don't offer refills or they just didn't notice our empty glasses or if we're supposed to press our button for service. -I asked for extra honey mustard...and it never came. Service was nice enough but a bit forgetful of requests. -When it was time for our movie, the ticket taker called all up for the 740 showing of The Campaign and didn't tell us where to go. She just looked at us while we walked by. We tried to show her our stub, but no reaction. It was a bit odd and not sure what that was about. -They don't clear plates when you're done. You have to sit there with your dishes for the remainder of the movie. Positives -Diet Dr. Pepper! I love when places have a diet pop option aside from just Coke/Pepsi. -I like the reserved seating! The seats are very comfy and the moving trays are convenient. -The waiting area is really nice and has a nice bar you can chill at & drink at prior to the movie. -Food comes out really fast, much faster than Hollywood Palms. -They offer some healthier options on their menu including fruit & cheese plates, grilled chicken strips and a veggie black bean burger. -Portions are huge, I'm totally stuffed. I found this to be a nice option for different style movie viewing in the burbs. It also helps to know that you can regularly find a Groupon which makes the price of going dirt cheap. The place offers online service which allows you to select your assigned seating in advance. I loved this because I am notorious for arriving on time and resent the need to get to a movie 30 minutes early in order to get a decent seat. That being said, I am not a movie buff so it is hard for me to rant and rave about the option of waiter service and trays when eating. It is a neat concept and a great experience if you plan to have a meal at the movies, but it can be somewhat distracting. The waiters do a good job of moving quickly, but it really sucks to sit next to a person who is in need of four refills during a 90 minutes movie. Absent being dehydrated, you wonder where they are putting it all which takes your mind off the movie. Given the reviews of others, I opted not to spend the time or money on any menu items. This place is getting more and more popular thanks to it really knowing how to put Groupon to use. Like other reviewers have said, you can pretty much look for a $6 Groupon deal that includes a ticket and a drink (great value) every other month or so. Another way is if they have any showings after 10pm, you can often get to see those showings for $6 as well. Those showings are not usually of the popular titles though as you can guess. Their current pricing is posted on their website. Another tip, go visit their site often, some special movies will have a special promo of 2 for $10 deal. So if you with a friend, it's only $5 per person. And ALWAYS ALWAYS view their show time via their website and NOT Google or use any movie apps that pull show times off the search engine which are not reliable! Their showing times are subject to change, often. One time, I've seen where a theater was backed up on being cleaned up, and that actually pushed their show times back by 15-20 minutes. Just check times via their website or call them before you arrive so you would not run into the case where you get there and ready to buy your tickets and the time that you thought that was for 7pm was really for 9:30pm. One last thing, since SMG is no longer a hidden secret, their show times for big hits sell out fast and you probably wouldn't want to be stuck in the first row because you showed up 5 minutes before the movie, unless you really enjoy a neck cramp. So come early to buy your tickets here and then browse around town or have a drink at their bar. The last time I went here which was 2 days ago, I wanted to see a 6pm showing and it was all sold out, then I wanted to switch it to a 7:30pm showing and that was sold out. Note: I was there at 5:45pm waiting in line. Finally, my fiance and I had to settled on a 9:30pm showing and had to buy our time eating dinner, twice go grocery shopping, that was how bored we were. So, come early, buy your tickets, pay with a credit card using their kiosk if you want to avoid the long lines. If I could improve one thing for them right now is that I would ask them to get through the long lines on Saturday nights faster. Other than that, I LOVE the red button that calls attention to the server, and the food isn't bad either. Give this one a try, you just may like it! At the last movie, it was so loud and clear that it felt like I was at an actual concert. Maybe even too loud, but at least I wasn't straining to hear the movie. The food is fine. Nothing specific to really mention except to push the call button if you don't get your drink with your food. This happened to me and I was done eating before I was able to get my drink. The waiting area is nice. Plenty of room to sit with friends. The couches are very deep. If I don't sit on the edge, I kinda fall back into them. I've been to many "eat in" movie theaters and I have to say that SMG is one of my favorites. Hollywood Palms and Hollywood Blvd. has got some stiff competition and Muvico, you better watch your back! The price per ticket is $12 for adults but they do send out weekly emails with 2 for $10 deals and they've teamed up with Groupon just about every other month to sell $5 tickets that includes a complimentary drink. If you haven't checked this place out you might want to be on the look out for these deals. The seats are comfy and the swing out table in front of you has a magic red button. When pressed, a server magically appears to take your order and refresh your drink. The food is surprisingly good and I haven't been disappointed with the variety. I was going to watch the new Avengers movie when I was there. When I walked in, the entrance felt very modern and unique. The furniture and bar are so modern! I like modern and uniqueness in any place! The theater was a little dark, but it was easy to see stuff. The service button is useful for your server to get to you in a crowded theater. The screen was big enough for me to see, and it was fine! The service was great! It was a bit crowded, but the staff was quick when I hit my service button. The staff were also easy-going and great to talk to. No bad attitude at all from the staff. The staff serve before and during the movie. The highlight of my visit is the food. It was very good and very tasty! I had a strawberry shake to start. It was good, but not great. The richness was a little too much for the shake, and it felt like a lot of milk was served, but I am okay with that. I had a sausage pizza for my entree. I really liked the sausage. It was a bit different from sausage at pizza places today. The sausage was REAL sausage, and it was fantastic. The sauce and cheese was great because it had a great taste! Also, after looking at pictures and reviews from other Yelpers, I wanted to try the frozen hot chocolate. It's basically a hot chocolate, but with ice cream. It was FANTASTIC! I arrived at 8:35 on Thursday night to get tickets for Saturday night for a movie's opening weekend. All doors were locked even though I could see people in there. A guy came out and said they were closed because the last movie of the night started at 8:30. Having been to movies recently I know there are a good 20 minutes of previews so, no the movie has not started yet. I told him I wanted to get tickets for the weekend. The guy told me to buy them online. I said I want to pay cash and not charge them. He said I guess you'll have to come back tomorrow then and relocked the door. Lately I am feeling that the service and venue are getting a little lax, food comes out so slow, and the quality of it has gone down significantly. The only reason I went to this theater was because its near my parents and I was rollin' in Groupons to this place. About once a year I forget why I don't go to Studio Movie Grill then I wind up there (prob because of movie times) and quickly get reminded why I avoid it. Seats, while leather, aren't recliners and basically feel like the crappy folding seats from theaters in the 70s. For me, popcorn is more than half the thrill of going to the movies. SMG's "gourmet popcorn", served in a small basket for $8.50, isn't even as good as the subway popcorn they sel at Walmart. Why don't you just cave and sell a bucket (with some volume for popcorn lovers or maybe a free refill)? I'd gladly pay another $5-$8 to get real movie theater popcorn. I came here the first time because I had been wanting to try a dine in movie theater and I saw a groupon for Studio Movie Grill, so I jumped on it. I really like that you get to select your seats ahead of time and then you can relax and have a drink at the bar. The last time I went I paid the extra $1.50 a ticket and reserved our seats online the day before. I was glad I did because we walked in at the last minute to a full theater... and we had the best seats in the house! The margaritas here are good. If you order a soft drink there are free refills. When ever you want to order all you have to do is press the little red button on your table. For food I have tried the sweet potato fries, Thai Chicken Pizza and Chicken Nachos. The nachos were super salty (in a good way) and savory. I will probably order them on ever subsequent visit now. The employees here are super friendly and respond quickly. I only have two complaints that prevented me from giving them 5 stars. The bathrooms are too small and get really messy towards the end of the night. When I have to go to the bathroom during a movie, I find it very unpleasant to have to wait in line and miss more of the movie! The other issue is that the seats here are not very comfy. The best movie experience I've ever had!! I love that you get to pick your seating and unlike IPic Theaters, ALL seats receive personal dining! Pretty decent menu options & the service is TopNotch! All seats are great seats, great screen view. It's a comfortable atmosphere, good dining options and a movie to boot! Why not make this an evening out?! There is also a sports bar area in the lobby with big screen tv's and comfortable cozy chair seating all around. Like sitting in a friends living room. Downside: Known to be quite busy; as they do run lots of great Groupon specials (I use them!) Popular movies, as with any theater, seats go quickly! Not uncommon to arrive and all seats are Sold Out for the showing you want and possibly the next. If you are planning on bringing kids to see a movie, why not get a complete meal while you are there. I only wish that the seating was more comfortable. I have been coming here for years and never experienced service like yesterday afternoon. I ordered pretzel bites, ice tea and a kiddie cocktail for my son. Everyone else was receiving their drinks, we gave them a few more minutes then they came to take our main course order. We ordered and my son asked for onion rings instead of fries. They always charge us extra and that's ok but this time they were adamant about how the onion rings had to be a separate appetizer. So I said ok fine he would like onion rings too. Our appetizer and drinks sill haven't come and we have been here about 20 mins at this point! Our main course comes out, what happen to our pretzel bites and drinks. My son received fries instead of onion ring. We pressed the call light for the third time to ask about drinks, onion rings and appetizer. At this point I said forget the pretzel bites. This place is in between Hollywood cinema and I pic. It's cleaner than Hollywood, you get to sit twenty min before movie so you can order your food without interrupting the film, you can pick your seats online beforehand, and you have your own table. But I pic has a nicer/larger bar area, pool tables, you get popcorn/blanket/pillow included, and the food tastes better there. This place was nice and I would definitely return for the price. Groupon has a deal right now where you pay only $5 for movie ticket. It's worth it! You can use right away and on new films. It is confusing to purchase ticket through groupon. You need to go to the site that is at the bottom of the groupon, put in your promo code after picking movie, make sure the area that says how many adults and children is all zero, then submit- you will pay a small fee of about $1.50 to order online beforehand to save spot. The place has a large private lot in a shopping center. There is free wifi but honestly when I used it the internet wouldn't work for me. The chairs are super comfortable with private small table that swings out but the chair does not recline. You need to push the call button for service, otherwise they will only come once before the start of the film. The have a small menu with appetizers, entree, and desert. They have tons of cocktails. I ordered the daiquiri which was huge and delicious but definitely did not use fresh strawberries. There's a $25 deal to order one appetizer (small) and two entree (large). You save about five bucks. You can then get dessert for five bucks but then you're only saving a dollar. We ordered the chicken nacho appetizer. Delicious but small. Then we got the blackened chicken salad- this was also good but had a lot of huge pieces of chicken which is annoying to cut in a dark theater. The margarita pizza was also good but definitely frozen. They don't seem to pressure you about getting food so I would just skip it or only come for drinks and dessert. I bought a Groupon recently for this new theater and since it was close to expiring decided to finally give the place a try. My husband and I were both apprehensive about it after reading so many negative reviews here so we picked a movie we weren't that thrilled about (The Campaign) so it couldn't be "ruined" by the experience. I'm happy to report that I thought the ambiance of the entire establishment was great (and the movie itself was much funnier than anticipated) and the waiters taking orders during the movie really weren't distracting at all (something I had been concerned about). Overall, I enjoyed it. We arrived at the theater about 40 minutes before the movie so we were able to pick our seats where we always sit regardless of the theater (last row in the center), although I miscalculated slightly and we were about two seats further to the right than I would have preferred. There's ample leg room to allow the waiters to get by which also means that even when someone is seated directly in front of you their head barely obscures the screen. We ate beforehand so as not to spend a fortune on food since the reviews here made most of it sound horrible, but we did share the chicken nachos which we both thought were good and the serving was quite large. I was able to get tap water for no charge instead of paying $3 for bottle water, and my hubby had Pepsi which came free with the Groupon (and refills on the pop are always free in case you were wondering). Service was pretty quick and all the employees we encountered (approximately five different people) were very cordial. My only complaint is that they brought the bills out a bit late so the movie ended a few minutes before they brought back everyone's credit card, but that wasn't enough to turn me off to coming back. While their prices are higher than what I'm willing to pay on a regular basis, I would come back here once in awhile for something different. read more
