had lunch at the lodge for the first time. The atmosphere was pleasant and felt like a lodge themed restaurant should feel. Service was also good. Had the Scotch Egg appetizer and was surprised how substantial they were - and they were almost meal sized. They were really good. The dip wasn't my favorite accompaniment, but it was ok. Then I had the German Sausage Platter with one each of their three types. Decided that I wasn't as thrilled by the Bratwurst. The Knockwurst was better and the Thuringer was best of all. The sausages came with a variety of sauces, so everything was good. In fact, my final judgement was that these were some of the best sausages I've ever had, including some I've had in Germany. So feel safe recommending the Lodge if you have an urge for some Bavarian food. read more

It's been almost exactly 10 years since my last visit here, and it was a blast to return to this German stalwart in the western suburbs.   This time it was with a party of 5 of my 'ol work colleagues.  Looking around a bit after a long absence, it's not initially obvious but this place has quite a few quaintly and cozily decorated rooms and nooks, and a pretty high overall capacity.  The parking lot, as usual, was almost filled at 5pm on a Wednesday and the place is still immensely popular. Jose was our competent, attentive, and patient server.   We caught up over a bunch of beers, appetizers, and German dinner classics.  I personally had a 23 oz Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier and a 20 oz Benediktiner Festbier lager, and I liked the former a lot and the latter not as much, but it was all great to try.  They were both big servings for $8.  For food, I had their Kassler Rippchen or pork chops for $25.  We also split appetizers of their wurst sausage platter ($14) and a pretzel basket ($13). I still dream about the Beef Stroganoff that I've had here. It was my first time visiting TBL and it is certainly not going to be the last. Our server was helpful, friendly, and prompt. He was knowledgeable of everything on the food and beer menus. I loved the Kolsch that he recommended, it was refreshing and delicious. We tried other beers but I cannot remember the names, they were all really good. For food, I tried: BEEF STROGANOFF- like what I said, I dream about it. Delicious. LIVER DUMPLING SOUP- tasty! My family and I decided to stop by The Bavarian Lodge on Sunday for a late lunch/early dinner (around 3pm). My mom has been on the hunt for good cabbage rolls and Wiener schnitzel, and we saw both on the menu which prompted us to check this place out. The interior is incredibly charming, it's decorated head to toe with steins and all sorts of trinkets that makes you feel like you're in an old European tavern. Because we came at an odd time, we didn't have to wait and were seated in the dining room right away. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and asked us if we had any questions about their insanely large beer/spirits selection. I think this is the first place I've ever been to that has mead on their menu which is cool. We love Kölsch so two people in my party ordered that, while I wanted to try something different that intrigued me which was the Huyghe Delirium Red which was described as a strong Belgian ale with cherries and elderberry. This was extremely good, it wasn't super carbonated for a beer and was quite smooth and the flavor of it was very good, I'd get it again. Here's what we ordered: Appetizer: * Fried Green Beans - cooked well & tasty, I just wish the breading was seasoned with garlic or something, it was lacking flavor Mains: * Cheese Pierogi - these were a lot bigger than I was expecting, the filling was decadent. I would definitely get it again. For my side I opted for the sauerkraut which I loved because it was actually sour, I'm not a fan of the sweet variation * Cabbage Rolls - while I'm not a fan of these myself, both of my parents are and they weren't impressed with them. They said the meat was too tightly packed together and the flavor was lacking. The bread dumplings were good though. * Wiener Schnitzel - very good, perfectly breaded and a huge portion. The mashed potatoes were good as well and she loved the red cabbage. * Vegetable Soup - we all got this instead of a salad and we liked it a lot. It's like a chicken noodle soup without the chicken and noodle, but had dumplings in it instead. Overall, this place is good and we'd definitely come back when we're having one of those days of craving this type of food or don't know what to eat. read more

Haven't visited in well over a decade. Ambiance is its still a Jumping German Restaurant. Great service, great food. I don't believe they take reservations but will only seat you once your whole party has arrived. I had the Cheese Beer Soup and pretzel bread. For my entree I had chicken schnitzel that was crispy and flavorful. It's hard to choose sides with so many good options. Dessert reminded me of my grandmother's. read more

Huge platter (pick three) gets three meats, plus choice of potatoes plus veggie side as well as soup or salad for $27. Parking lot is too small for capacity. We're big foodies. Shared four entrees and two appetizers. Thought it was good and definitely a place to go to for an occasion. Lots of great dishes, a few not so great. The curry wurst was the bomb but needed more sauce. The sauce was heavenly though. The potato pancakes great and flavorful. The cabbage rolls tasty. The liver soup not my favorite only because it had a liver taste--which if you like, then you'll like it. The saurkraut and purple cabbage the best Ive ever tasted and worth getting. The spetzel so-so, not much flavor. Son liked it though. The bread dumplings ok. More like white bread. The big pork shank that is the prize-it was good but not as stellar as we thought it would be. And we did make sure to order it crispy like it said to and it wasn't. Looked like it was a little browned but even my young son said the fat isn't rendered. I think it would have been a lot better if it had been crispy like in other pictures on here. Disappointed. It's like $35. Not cheap. The beef with sauce (sauerbraten) was good, the sauce great, the beef ok. The special that was going on, the beef roulade. Nobody liked it at all. The stuff just didn't taste good together in it. Overall, it was a good experience. The waitress Rosie was amazing, most of the food was great to awesome. The ambiance was German and cozy. On October 11, 2025, my party of 10 went to the Bavarian Lodge for dinner. The restaurant was crowded because it was the October Feast, but that was why we were there. We all had adult beverages while we waited for our table to be ready. I had the Allagash White on tap, which was great; several of my colleagues had the Bitburger Pils and Sam Smith Organic Cider. Unfortunately, that would be the highlight of our dinner. We were seated and ordered several more adult beverages and multiple appetizers. We ordered the Bavarian Pretzel Baskets (which were good), Mini Cheese Pierogi (so-so), and the Tiroler Schnitzel Bites (again so-so). For our main course, we ordered the following: several Wiener Schnitzels, a Hunter's Schnitzel, Knackwurst Dinner, Stuffed Potato Dumplings, and the Roast Duck. The portions were quite generous; we were all looking forward to leftovers. But unfortunately, that would not be the case. All the dinners, except the Roast Duck, were uneventful, and no one took any leftovers home. We all attributed the lack of taste in the food to the large number of people that were coming through the restaurant because of the October Feast, but none of us would be returning for a second try. read more

It's been a minute since I was last in Munich, but this place definitely felt like many of the places we ate at when we visited Germany. We tried the Wurst Platter, Hunter's Schnitzel, and the Pork Shank. While they were out of fries by the time we ordered, all the food didn't disappoint and the kids were more than willing to try everything. I'll say the Wurst Platter was the kids favorite. Aside from the food being on point, I was really impressed with the number of German beers they had on tap. Paired really great with all the food we ordered. Was in Naperville looking for something new and different and the bavarian lodge was perfect. When you arrive you will see the parking lot is full but don't worry not a long wait. the ambiance was an old german restaurant with a massive beer list. The chicken schnitzel was the best i have ever had. The german pancakes were delicious the salad that came with meal was delicious. If you leave hungry it's your fault the portions are large. Stopped in for an early dinner. The potato pancakes (served with applesauce and sour cream) were very tasty. The appetizer has four in the plate. Also nibbled on the wurst platter. The apps were good-but all of us felt our dinner entrees fell flat. Two of us had the cabbage rolls with spaetzle and red sauce. The sauce tasted like the spaghetti O's sauce... One person dined in the Beef Stroganoff-the sauce was pretty watery/runny. The beer menu is extensive-and our waiter was a great guy named Collin. I live so close to this place I'm surprised we don't come here more often, but a group of us came for dinner at 7 pm on the Sunday before Christmas. I have never seen this restaurant not mobbed, and this time was certainly no exception, but it must have been so all day because throughout the course of us ordering our waiter (who had a good attitude and was friendly and attentive despite obviously being busy) had to keep breaking the bad news that they were out of things: at least 5 items that I know of (pretzels, meatballs, hunter's schnitzel, one variety of soup, and fries) and one of our friends was told she got the last salad to be had in the kitchen (it still looked pretty good for all that). Normally I would get the hunter's schnitzel but they were out of the sauce, so I went with the Konigsberger schnitzel with a lemon caper sauce: good but the other one is definitely better. I also had a glass of the Dansk Mjød Viking Blod Mead, which was floral and honeyed but not overly sweet. My fiance said his bacon burger on a pretzel bun, which came with the same cheese spread you get for the pretzels, was good. The only reason I am knocking them down one more star is accessibility. They desperately need more lighting in the back parking lot: with people racing around like dodge 'em cars when we arrived and the blacktop slick, it was very hard to see. Overall though, will surely return for German comfort food and more mead! read more

Wife & I were looking for a place to have lunch for our anniversary today, wanted brats and were going to go to our favorite place in Downers Grove & to our surprise, they were closed, so we drove a little farther west & came across the Bavarian Lodge, we both figured it would be a great place for a brat. Seated quickly and our server Michael couldn't have been nicer. We ordered an appetizer of poutine which was great. Placed our orders for brats, my wife chose fries as her side, I chose the German potato salad, excellent. Brat with raw onion on a pretzel bun, could not have been better. We chose the blueberry cheesecake for dessert and it was fantastic. In our talks with our server, we mentioned it was our 29th anniversary, after dessert he brought an order of kolaches, we had to take them home because we were stuffed. If you're looking for hearty, stick to ribs type of meal then this is the spot. It was German comfort food at its finest. They also have the most extensive beer menu I've seen with all the different varieties available. I ended up trying the liver soup as recommended by friends and it was good. I didn't get too much of the liver flavor which I was nervous about but it ended up being very pleasant. This was my first time here so I figured I'd go basic with one of the schnitzel options. It was very delicious but my when I saw the gigantic pork shank that my friend ordered I immediately wished I got that instead! The service was great and they were very patient with us perusing their extensive menu. I like the decor and the feel of the restaurant. It makes me think that this would be what your typical German pub would be like complete with all the steins. I'd definitely go back with a very healthy appetite. read more

I enjoyed every aspect of this place. My friend recommended we go since they liked it, so we went. The interior and music was very fun, and felt very comfortable. The service here was amazing. I got the Hunters Schnitzel, and the mini pierogi appetizer. I think total I spent around $30, which was plenty for what I got. Our server Rosie was beyond excellent. She was very personable and enjoyable to talk to. I was wearing a hat that said "dipshit", and she had said the staff loved it. Well after a 12 year hiatus, I was craving for some sauerbraten. Glad I stopped in for this childhood favorite. I sat at the bar and the tag team of bartenders were great. It definitely has that ambiance you like in a German restaurant. Not as good as mom's but it certainly hit the spot. Flavorful gravy with the spaetzle was a winner. We were looking for some genuine German food and we were not disappointed. The restaurant has plenty of seating and a bar, it has a lodge atmosphere. Out server was very nice and patient as we took our time deciding what to order, since the menu is extensive. We started with an order of mini pierogis . Even though this was an appetizer it could have been a meal. The perogies were I had the chicken paprikash with dumplings. Oh my goodness , it was so good homemade and excellent . The chicken was incredibly tender and the creamy sauce had the perfect blend of tomato, paprika creating a delicious sauce. It was the perfect comfort food. Dinners come with a choice of soup or salad. My husband had stuffed cabbage. Two large cabbage rolls, stuffed with a large portion of meat. They also have an enormous selection of beers and drinks. After a rather trying day, I looked forward to dinner at The Bavarian Lodge, I have enjoyed the atmosphere and meals here often. After the third bite of my Wiener schnitzel I pulled a six-inch brunette hair out of my mouth. When the waiter came around to check on our meal, I showed him my discovery. He offered th bring me something else - WHAT ON EARTH WOULD I WANT FROM THIS KITCHEN??? Someone stopped by the table five minutes later, apologized and offered another meal. No introduction, uncertain who the person was. My wife lost her appetite and we stated we were done. No take home containers necessary. The bill came with my meal removed. WAIT...they stopped the meal as we lost our appetite and they still charged for the meal. Less my schnitzel! Will not return! The mistake of hair on a plate is gross and disgusting. The mistake the made not recognizing they spoiled an evening and picking up the charge...very dismissive and lacks sensitivity and understanding of how this would challenge customer service read more

Every time I stand outside in the cold at Christkindlmarket wanting some German food, I ask myself why I don't just pack it up and head here instead. You can eat your potato pancakes and schnitzel without huddling around a sticky table in 20° weather. And the food here is way better. The service is great. The food is great. The atmosphere lively. I don't know why I don't come here more often. This place fills up fast and has a bit of a wait unless you come early. They don't take reservations. Bavarian Lodge is always amazing. The food seems to have gotten even better this year. My birthday falls in the Oktoberfest season and I was shocked 9 friends all wanted to celebrate with me. Little nervous because they don't take reservations and that's a big group during this busy season. I had a wonderful time. Early dinner today. Although they don't take reservations, we rarely have to wait very long for a table - even for a seating request for a specific area of the restaurant (eg., bar, fireplace). Today was no exception. Food is always very, very good - particularly the Wiener Schnitzel. The bread dumplings, gravy, liver dumpling soup and sauerkraut are all great. Can't remember ever having poor service. Table was cleared after dinner and before desert. Water glasses were kept full. Our server stopped by often. We eat out often and sometimes are stunned by the price increases at most of the area restaurants - especially the "trendy" ones. We don't, though, think prices at the Bavarian Lodge are out of line.
